Make Her Heart Flutter - Chapter 6
When they went downstairs, all four of them were already waiting in the living room. Shang Chumu was the first to speak: “Brother Yan Xu and the others are going to the market to buy some things. Do you need anything?”
Chi Shuang nodded and said, “I just checked. Apart from basic daily necessities and seasonings, there’s no food or rice here at all. We should buy some. Our budget for the three months isn’t much, and it might not even be enough.”
Jiang Ran pouted: “It’s definitely not enough. If it were, this show wouldn’t be called ‘Survival Rules.’ Having money is called living; not having money is called survival.”
Jiang Qi mentally gave Jiang Ran’s words a big thumbs-up and then spoke up in support of Chi Shuang: “I agree with Chi… Chi Shuang.”
Tang Qiluo nodded in agreement: “That’s right. Yan Xu and I were thinking of buying some things that are affordable and can be stored for a long time. What about you?”
Chi Shuang glanced at Jiang Qi, silently asking for her opinion.
Jiang Qi’s heart fluttered under the gaze, and she quickly turned her head away: “I’m fine with anything.”
Tang Qiluo turned to ask Jiang Ran and the others, while Chi Shuang took a notepad and pen from her pocket, wrote down a short list, and handed over two hundred yuan: “That should be about it. If it’s not enough, I’ll make up the difference when you get back.”
Jiang Ran and Shang Chumu had also discussed what they wa0nted to buy. When Yan Xu took their list, he couldn’t help but say helplessly, “Do you two want to reconsider?”
Curious, Chi Shuang took the list, and Jiang Qi leaned in slightly to see a long string of snacks.
Shang Chumu shrugged: “No choice. Neither of us knows how to cook.”
Jiang Ran nodded vigorously: “I never imagined we’d have to cook for ourselves. If I’d known, even with two of my goddesses here, I wouldn’t…” She trailed off, thought for a moment, and then said dejectedly, “Well, I’d still come.”
Everyone laughed at her words, and even Jiang Qi cracked a slight smile.
At that point, Chi Shuang suggested: “How about this, we can cook and eat together? It should save us a lot of money.”
Jiang Ran and Shang Chumu were the first to agree: “Great idea!”
Tang Qiluo shrugged: “I have no objections. What about you, Yanyan?”
Yan Xu, suddenly hearing his name, blushed and reacted a beat slower: “I’m fine with it too.”
Finally, everyone’s gaze turned to Jiang Qi’s face. Jiang Ran, looking at Jiang Qi’s slightly cold expression, felt a nervous flutter in her heart, it was like a mischievous child facing a stern parent.
Jiang Qi pursed her lips and nodded: “Whatever you decide is fine.”
With everyone in agreement, Jiang Ran and Shang Chumu breathed a sigh of relief and immediately declared: “We don’t know how to cook, but we can help chop firewood, wash vegetables, and cut them!”
“Does anyone else not know how to cook? Qiluo and I both do,” Yan Xu asked.
Everyone’s eyes turned to Jiang Qi again.
Jiang Qi parted her lips slightly. You might not believe it, but I can cook. However, she usually only cooked for herself. It probably, hopefully, wouldn’t poison them. Besides, if she didn’t say she could cook, it might seem like she was useless.
“I can cook,” Jiang Qi said.
“Oh… oh, okay.” Realizing it wasn’t very polite to stare, everyone quickly averted their eyes.
Chi Shuang spoke up at the right moment: “I can cook too, though I’m not sure if it’ll suit everyone’s tastes.”
Fangirl Jiang Ran immediately chimed in, waving her hands enthusiastically: “Anything my goddess makes will be delicious!”
Jiang Ran was only sixteen years old, young, from a well-off family, and even signed to a company owned by her own family. She could do whatever she wanted without any constraints, which had nurtured her innocent and carefree personality.
Yan Xu patted Jiang Ran’s head and said with a smile, “It seems Ranran really likes Xiao Shuang.”
“Alright, alright,” Tang Qiluo chimed in. “Since everyone has made up their minds, how about the four of us take turns cooking for three days each?”
Everyone agreed, and Tang Qiluo led the group to the market with a newly revised shopping list.
In the studio, the assistant director hesitated. “Director, what about the task scripts we prepared?”
The director chuckled and shook his head helplessly. “Young people these days are getting smarter and smarter. We put so much effort into these setups, but maybe the audience is already tired of all the drama and conflicts.”
The young assistant director seemed puzzled. “Will this approach create enough buzz? Will it attract viewers?”
The director stroked his chin. “That’s why you still need to learn from me for a couple more years. Have you seen the recent comments about last season? The audience’s tastes have already shifted. Cozy, slice-of-life variety shows are in vogue now, and if there’s a potential couple to ship, that’s even better.”
The assistant director’s eyes lit up, and he quickly flattered, “As expected of the director!”
The director grinned proudly once again.
By the time Tang Qiluo and Yan Xu returned, it was almost four o’clock. The two of them got off their electric scooter, drenched in sweat and exhausted.
“Brother Yan, Brother Tang, let me help you,” Shang Chumu was the first to notice their return and rushed over noisily to assist.
Jiang Qi and the others heard the commotion and came out as well. Together, they unloaded the items from the scooter. Chi Shuang gave them a warm smile. “You’ve worked hard. I’ll start cooking today. What would everyone like for dinner?”
Yan Xu pointed to the pile of ingredients on the ground. “We went too late. There were hardly any fresh vegetables left, so we just bought some meat, potatoes, tomatoes, and the like.”
Chi Shuang glanced over the items and waved her hand. “That should be enough. We can go buy more tomorrow morning. Since you went today, I’ll go tomorrow…” She paused thoughtfully, then turned to Jiang Qi with a hopeful look.
Jiang Qi’s inner turmoil flared up again, two little monsters battling it out in her heart. Finally, one of them declared, “No matter what, helping others is a traditional virtue on our planet, especially when it comes to beautiful, delicate Omega women.”
After a moment of serious consideration, she glanced at the two clueless fools beside her and realized she couldn’t count on them.
In the end, Jiang Qi decided to sacrifice her own comfort and accompany Chi Shuang to the market the next morning. Having made up her mind, she shot a cold glare at the eager Jiang Ran, who shrank back, pretending nothing had happened as she clasped her hands behind her back and looked up at the sky.
“I’ll go too,” Jiang Qi said, maintaining her usual cold and aloof demeanor.
Chi Shuang didn’t mind at all and nodded happily. “Then I’ll go get ready. The kitchen needs tidying up too. Chumu and Ranran, come help me.”
The little fan, hearing Chi Shuang call her name, raised her hand excitedly. “Okay~”
Shang Chumu nodded as well, rolling up his sleeves and preparing to get to work.
Yan Xu and Tang Qiluo had worked up a sweat while out on the street and had now gone to take a shower. Jiang Qi sat alone in the living room, feeling utterly bored, so she stood by the doorway, silently watching the three people bustling about in the kitchen.
The kitchen wasn’t large, and with three people plus a photographer squeezed inside, it was already packed. Chi Shuang turned around and suddenly noticed Jiang Qi standing at the door. She smiled and said, “Go have some fun. I remember I brought a badminton set. Once Yanyan and Qiluo are done showering, you can all play together.”
