Make Her Heart Flutter - Chapter 1
“President Jiang, the matters regarding the variety show have been communicated, and all business trips for next month have been canceled,” Assistant Lin said, holding her work report and speaking in a formal tone.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Qi felt a sudden pang in her heart and asked with a trembling voice, “Even the project with the nine-figure offer was canceled?”
Assistant Lin nodded, a proud expression on her face. “Of course. I handled it personally. The other company’s CEO tried to negotiate, but I shut him down with just three sentences.”
Only you could do something like this, you absolute legend. Jiang Qi grumbled inwardly.
Her name was Jiang Qi, a rare S-class Alpha in this world and also the villainess of this novel.
That’s right… the world she lived in was a novel. Three days ago, she stumbled upon this book and became self-aware.
In the novel, she was depicted as a scumbag Alpha who lusted after the female lead, deceived her into marriage, forcibly marked her, emotionally manipulated her after marriage, tortured her until she was on the brink of death, and ultimately abandoned her.
After the female lead went through immense hardship to divorce her, she launched a relentless revenge against Jiang Qi, who ended up abandoned by everyone and dying a miserable death on the streets.
Who wouldn’t say she deserved it? But unfortunately, she was the one who would meet that tragic end, so she was understandably panicked.
Jiang Qi pondered: although she was somewhat of a playgirl, she had never stooped to toying with others’ emotions or driving someone to their death. It felt as though there were countless invisible threads compelling her to act that way.
Regardless, she came to one conclusion: stay away from the female lead, or misfortune would follow.
Yet, just moments ago, her ever-efficient Assistant Lin delivered shocking news… she was going to appear on a variety show with the female lead!
Jiang Qi grimaced. “Can’t we skip it?”
Lin Wei smiled. “It’s not impossible. The compensation would be around eight figures, not too much.”
Eight figures! Jiang Qi repeated inwardly. Of course, it’s easy to say when it’s not your money.
“How long is the show?”
“Three months in total,” Lin Wei replied honestly.
Jiang Qi covered her face and nodded. “Send me the schedule later.”
After Lin Wei left, Jiang Qi slumped into her executive chair, trying to console herself: It’s only three months, and it’s a variety show, it’s not like it’s just the two of us.
“Ding dong.”
With a notification sound, Jiang Qi received the schedule from Lin Wei. Her once-packed itinerary was now reduced to just a few items.
Recording the variety show and… preparing to record the variety show.
Jiang Qi rubbed her forehead. According to the timeline, at this point, the female lead, Chi Shuang, didn’t know her. It was only because Jiang Qi had caught a glimpse of her at a recent banquet that she used her wealth and influence to join the same show.
This should have been the beginning of a fairy tale, but the events in the book were practically fit for a crime documentary: domestic violence and illegal confinement of an Omega.
Even Jiang Qi herself felt like spitting in disgust after reading it.
But since they didn’t know each other, and there were many guests on the show, she could just get along with the other participants to avoid awkwardness.
Her only worry now was that, while reading the book, she could sense the inner struggle of the Jiang Qi in the story. Perhaps treating Chi Shuang that way wasn’t her true intention.
So, if the Jiang Qi in the book couldn’t escape her predetermined fate, could she?
Jiang Qi lowered her gaze. However, it was still too early to worry about that invisible, intangible fate.
And to hell with fate.
Her slender fingers tapped lightly on the desk. After a moment of contemplation, Jiang Qi picked up her phone and issued an order: “Meeting in the conference room on the 11th floor in ten minutes.”
Though Jiang Qi was a second-generation heiress and the company was a family business, she was no figurehead CEO. At just twenty-one, she had earned dual master’s degrees from a world-renowned university, and within two years of graduation, she had doubled the scale of the subsidiary she took over.
Upon hearing about the meeting, the usually domineering mid-to-high-level managers scrambled to organize their materials, fearing any oversight that might displease the young mistress and make her target them.
Lin Wei, the special assistant, arrived at the conference room early. Of course, Jiang Qi wouldn’t be the one leading the meeting. After all, the young mistress was usually tight-lipped, cold, and aloof.
“I heard she’s quite promiscuous in private, not picky about Alphas or Omegas. She just uses her family’s wealth to force others.”
“She’s nothing but a spoiled rich kid. A business prodigy? At twenty-three? Her diplomas were probably bought. With that kind of money, she can get anything she wants. Not like us wage slaves…”
Jiang Qi had only stepped in to wash her hands when she overheard these “explosive revelations.” Surprised, she paused to reflect and confirmed she had never done anything so disgraceful, then breathed a sigh of relief.
“I believe forcing an Omega is illegal, punishable by up to twelve years in prison,” Jiang Qi said coolly, meticulously drying her hands with a paper towel.
The girl beside her spoke up, then slowly turned her head. “What do you know? With money, you can…”
The two were Beta girls. Though they couldn’t sense the oppressive aura of a top-tier Alpha, they could feel the sharpness in Jiang Qi’s demeanor, especially in her eyes, like the perpetual snow atop a vast mountain range, chilling to the bone.
Then they recognized her face, it was the CEO their supervisor had introduced before their internship.
The two girls exchanged glances, their faces and ears flushing red, before scurrying away.
Jiang Qi sighed inwardly. Was she really that intimidating? Glancing at her reflection in the mirror, she mused, “Still as stunning as ever.”
Lin Wei led the meeting, while Jiang Qi’s role was to command the room and wrap things up. With her absence for the next three months, she also needed to warn the seasoned foxes present not to stir up any trouble.
After the meeting, Jiang Qi rubbed her shoulders. The recent all-nighters reviewing proposals had left her exhausted, and her shoulders ached terribly. She stretched her back. “I won’t be in the office this afternoon. Send me a quick message if anything comes up.”
Lin Wei paused while organizing the documents, noticing Jiang Qi’s discomfort. “Should I book you a massage? It might help you feel better.”
Jiang Qi raised an eyebrow. “Is it a legitimate one? If it’s legitimate, I’m not interested.”
Lin Wei was momentarily speechless and decided to drop the subject, quietly continuing with her tasks.
Jiang Qi wasn’t the type of traditional CEO who thrived on overwork. She was someone who indulged in pleasure. In other words, the wealth accumulated by the Jiang family over generations was more than enough for her, the sole heir, to spend money recklessly every day for the rest of her life without ever running out.
There was no need for her to push herself to the brink, she wasn’t a masochist. After days of overtime, all she wanted now was to go home and soak in a hot bath.
Back at the foot of her apartment building, Jiang Qi’s mind wandered for a moment, and she accidentally bumped right into someone. The scent of an Omega’s pheromones washed over her… first, the sweet aroma of chocolate milk, followed by the subtle undertone of whiskey that perfectly balanced the sweetness.
