A good ex should be like the dead: never seen again. Unfortunately, fate had other plans for Li Yao. Not only did he run into his ex, but he did so at the absolute lowest point of his life.
In a grim, cramped underground fight club, Li Yao wiped the blood from his mouth. With a hand stained with grime and gore, he patted the face of the Alpha standing before him a man notorious for being a germaphobe.
“Well, well, if it isn’t my ex-boyfriend,” Li Yao smirked. “Enjoying the show? How about a tip?”
“Are you that desperate for money?” Ji Yiheng asked, his brow furrowed, eyes filled with nothing but cold disgust.
“Desperate? You bet,” Li Yao replied.
“Be my lover,” the Alpha said. “I’ll pay you.”
“Sure,” Li Yao smiled nonchalantly. “But I should warn you, I’m very expensive to keep.”
Even after agreeing to be a kept lover, Li Yao refused to play nice. During Ji Yiheng’s rut, Li Yao would pin him against the wall, tease him until he was breathless, and then heartlessly push him away.
“Sorry,” he’d whisper. “I’m not in the mood today.”
Five years ago, when Ji Yiheng was in the hospital, fighting for his life after a violent rut spiraled out of control, his boyfriend Li Yao vanished. He took the money and left without a second thought, not even bothering to leave a breakup note.
When they meet again, the once sweet and soft Omega has undergone a total transformation. He is now covered in thorns, stinging anyone who dares to get close. The only thing that hasn’t changed is his obsession with money.
Ji Yiheng hates him and resents him. Knowing Li Yao is broke, he forces him into the shadows as a secret lover, intending to humiliate the Omega who so cruelly abandoned him. Yet, despite his anger, Ji Yiheng is acutely aware that he still burns with desire for this rebellious rose. He is still willing to go mad for the man who broke his heart.
Driven by obsession, the Alpha begins to control Li Yao’s every move, disregarding his will. From 24-hour surveillance to hidden GPS trackers in his devices, Li Yao is constantly shadowed. Just as Li Yao realizes Ji Yiheng has become more unhinged than ever, the tension hits a breaking point when the Alpha discovers Li Yao has a child.
Tearing into Li Yao’s scent gland, Ji Yiheng torments him relentlessly: “Tell me! Whose little bastard is it?”
With hazy eyes but a voice as flippant as ever, Li Yao replies: “Whoever it belongs to… it certainly isn’t yours.”
