Lie to Me Again - Chapter 14
“I’m talking to you, Songtang. Why are you ignoring me?”
Qi Yuqiu leaned in even closer. The familiar, elegant scent of perfume was almost dizzying. What… what is she doing?
Jiang Songtang’s cheeks were flushed, her lips pressed thin, and her long lashes fluttered nervously. After a long moment under the other woman’s gentle approach, she managed to blurting out a panicked, “Whatever.”
As soon as she said it, she clamped her mouth shut and lowered her head, refusing to meet Qi Yuqiu’s eyes.
While the Chairwoman was busy trying to maintain her composure, a slender, jade-like finger reached out and actually poked the soft skin of her cheek.
Chairwoman Jiang: !
She was instantly incensed. How dare you repeatedly take liberties with me!
She glared back with a touch of anger. “What are you doing?” her voice was ice-cold.
The big villain looked quite intimidating when she was angry, her small face clouded over. Qi Yuqiu couldn’t help but feel a twinge of fear, her fingertips curling into a tight fist at her side. However, she didn’t let a hint of it show on her face, her expression remaining perfectly calm.
After all, who is afraid of their own girlfriend?
She took a quiet breath to steady her nerves, then intentionally spoke in a warm, smiling voice. “You look so cute when you talk, Songtang. I just wanted to touch you. Did I bother you? We’re a couple now, so even if I did, I’m not going to apologize.”
She was gently reminding the woman of their current status, just in case her benefactor forgot and actually stayed mad at her.
Jiang Songtang certainly knew they were a couple, but… but Qi Yuqiu hadn’t been like this during breakfast this morning.
Before she could react, Qi Yuqiu added matter-of-factly, “Couples like to touch each other. Don’t you know that, Songtang?”
She… she knew, but this morning.
Jiang Songtang’s head was spinning. She couldn’t understand why the other woman’s attitude had shifted so suddenly. It wasn’t until her assistant knocked and delivered the signed contract that the realization hit her: the contract hadn’t been signed this morning, so Qi Yuqiu hadn’t considered herself the girlfriend yet.
How cautious.
So, this was what being in a relationship was like.
A small spark of curiosity finally flickered in Jiang Songtang’s heart, and she began to find the situation novel. It was just that she wasn’t used to being touched.
“You… move back a bit,” she eventually muttered. Being this close, every breath she took was filled with the other woman’s scent.
But Qi Yuqiu didn’t listen. She stayed right where she was, her voice soft and carrying an intimate, sweet quality. “I won’t. I want to be close to you.”
She was being so unreasonable that Jiang Songtang didn’t know what to do with her.
Jiang Songtang pursed her thin, rosy lips and turned her head away, sounding both resigned and a little huffy. “Fine, do whatever you want.”
There had always been a chair for Qi Yuqiu in the Chairwoman’s office. She used to sit across from her, but now that their relationship had changed, the details had to change too. She moved her chair right next to Jiang Songtang.
Their arms were almost touching. Qi Yuqiu propped her head on one hand and quietly turned to watch her.
Even while focusing on work, Jiang Songtang couldn’t ignore such a focused, warm gaze.
She bit her lip and couldn’t help but steal a quick glance sideways. “Don’t you have anything of your own to do?”
Qi Yuqiu replied lazily, “Mm, not really. My girlfriend punished me by taking away a week’s worth of resources. I’ve already memorized my scripts backward and forward, but I can’t start filming yet. I really have nothing to do.”
“Are you blaming me?”
Everything had been fine a moment ago, but now the villain’s tone turned sour. She truly was temperamental.
Qi Yuqiu didn’t seem afraid. She boldly brushed the back of her hand against the woman’s cheek. “Is my Tangtang mad at me? It was right for you to punish me. I don’t blame you, I like you, Tangtang.”
Jiang Songtang’s heart skipped a beat. She said she… liked her.
“Alright, go back to work. I’ll go get you a cup of coffee, but you can only have one cup today, okay?”
There were only work documents on her desk. Ever since they signed the body-double contract, even the assistant wouldn’t enter unless it was urgent. Getting coffee was a job that fell to Qi Yuqiu.
Now she’s trying to manage me? Why can I only have one cup?
Jiang Songtang wasn’t pleased, but the other woman didn’t seem interested in her opinion. After speaking, she headed out to prepare the coffee.
This was very different from when Qi Yuqiu was just a body double. Back then, she was very obedient and did exactly what she was told.
Now…
Did being in a relationship mean becoming disobedient?
Jiang Songtang’s eyes darkened slightly. Soon, Qi Yuqiu returned with the coffee.
Meeting her benefactor’s cold face, Qi Yuqiu maintained a gentle smile on the surface, but her heart was in her throat. Angry again? Honestly, how can you be in a relationship with such a bad temper?
Is it even possible?
She isn’t going to lose it and hit me, is she?
That won’t do. That’s a workplace injury, and I’ll definitely sue for damages!
“Songtang, have some coffee to wake up. Just one cup, so make it last.”
Jiang Songtang was speechless.
Having grown up in wealth, she had never known the meaning of “making things last.”
“Are you giving me orders?”
Given her status, Jiang Songtang naturally disliked being told what to do. It had been years since anyone dared treat her this way.
Sensing the slight anger in her tone, Qi Yuqiu stiffened for a second. Then, she slowly sat down beside her and lowered her eyes helplessly. “Songtang, this isn’t how you act in a relationship. No one gets angry at their girlfriend all the time.”
“Hmph. Then how should it be? Being controlled by you like this?”
If being in a relationship was this annoying, why would anyone like it? Was it just looking for trouble?
The frown on Jiang Songtang’s brow was deep enough to catch a passing mosquito.
Qi Yuqiu could tell that even though the big villain was in her thirties, she had never been in a relationship. Although Qi Yuqiu hadn’t been in one either, she was only twenty-five and still had romanticized ideas about love. She figured that even if she hadn’t eaten pork, she’d seen plenty of pigs run—she knew far more than Jiang Songtang.
“Yes. Being in love means looking out for each other. I look out for you, and you look out for me. We should consider each other’s feelings, take care of one another, watch over each other’s health, and always be there to provide warmth and understanding. That’s what a beautiful relationship is.”
Even if most people couldn’t actually achieve it.
Jiang Songtang had been upset, but the more she listened, the more she dazed. The relationship Qi Yuqiu described was indeed beautiful and something to yearn for, but was it really something she could have?
In her entire life, no one had ever treated her that well.
Ji Qiuchi had been one once, but that was a long time ago.
No, even she wasn’t that good to her. Could all of this really be gained just by being in a relationship?
If they were just “dating,” would Qi Yuqiu really be that good to her?
Jiang Songtang couldn’t help but turn to look at her. Initially, she just thought they looked alike, but at some point, even the curve of her smile had become identical to Ji Qiuchi’s.
She had no way of knowing that this was the result of Qi Yuqiu meticulously studying the other woman’s social media every day. Jiang Songtang was momentarily dazed, her mind a mess of tangled emotions, dominated mostly by a sense of anticipation.
After a long while, she turned her head away, her voice tight and her back stiff. “I don’t know how.”
Qi Yuqiu thought she was refusing to cooperate, but then came the next sentence.
“You show me.”
I don’t know how, so you show me.
After the Chairwoman finished speaking, she quietly tightened her grip on her fountain pen.
