Kidnapping the Female Teacher's Best Friend - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
When they went to the cafeteria for dinner that evening, Zhou Ruoxin and Meng Yuanhao both noticed that Mo Zibei’s mood was off, maybe a little glum?
“What happened?” Zhou Ruoxin held back from asking, but Meng Yuanhao spoke up directly.
Mo Zibei took a bite of a chicken nugget, looked up at Meng Yuanhao, and then gently shook her head.
Meng Yuanhao figured that if she didn’t want to talk, asking further would be futile.
After dinner, the three of them went back together.
Meng Yuanhao took advantage of Mo Zibei going out to fetch water, snuck into their classroom, and dragged Yan Xiaoshuai outside.
Yan Xiaoshuai knew Meng Yuanhao, had played basketball with him, and knew he was Mo Zibei’s childhood friend.
Meng Yuanhao asked him about Mo Zibei. Yan Xiaoshuai told him the truth: “During the eighth period, she was called to the office by the new English teacher. It was probably for some motivational talk, right?” Everyone in the class knew Mo Zibei didn’t like studying English.
Just a motivational talk wouldn’t make Zibei this way…
Yan Xiaoshuai didn’t know the exact reason, so Meng Yuanhao just told him to go back and decided to pay attention himself later.
The next morning during English class, Lin Xiaoran formally announced Mo Zibei as the English class representative for Class 15, Grade 12. The students found it quite unexpected and surprising, and the announcement immediately caused a stir and considerable discussion.
But they didn’t expect an even greater sensation to follow.
During the first period of Physics class in the afternoon, the homeroom teacher brought in a transfer student, using up a few minutes of the physics teacher’s time for a simple introduction.
The transfer student was Qu Junzhi. She was originally supposed to transfer to the B section of Grade 12, but for some unknown reason, she suddenly changed her mind and transferred to their class. Old Luo was also puzzled when he received the superior’s arrangement.
After a brief introduction of her background, Old Luo symbolically asked for Qu Junzhi’s opinion: “Where would you like to sit?”
There was only one empty spot in the class right now; in other words, she didn’t really have a choice.
Qu Junzhi looked around and noticed that everyone in the class, except for one person, was staring at her with wide eyes.
She was very confident in her appearance and hadn’t expected anyone to ignore her like that.
The corner of Qu Junzhi’s lips stretched into a smile. She raised her hand and pointed: “I want to sit there.”
Everyone followed her gesture and realized she was pointing at Yan Xiaoshuai’s desk…
Yan Xiaoshuai’s eyes were originally shining—that’s how he looked when he saw a pretty girl—but when he saw her pointing at him, his emotions became complex, and his smile froze…
“Teacher Luo, is that okay?” Qu Junzhi blinked her charming eyes, her voice soft.
Luo Hao couldn’t help but twitch his mouth. He hadn’t expected this girl to break convention… He then glanced at the boys in the back row, each stretching their necks, staring eagerly at Qu Junzhi. Seeing their unpromising look deeply wounded Old Luo’s sensitive heart… Having her sit with Mo Zibei was also fine; at least she was a girl and would likely be quieter.
“It’s fine,” Old Luo replied to Qu Junzhi, then nodded towards Yan Xiaoshuai. “You go sit next to Yang Yu.”
“Ah…” Yan Xiaoshuai pulled a long face, looking somewhat unwilling, but still packed his things and moved to Yang Yu’s desk under the dual stern gaze of the physics teacher and the homeroom teacher…
Old Luo gave a few more instructions before leaving. Afterward, the physics teacher took control, and everyone continued with the class, but the students were all a bit distracted, occasionally glancing at Qu Junzhi.
The physics teacher had to clear his throat and cough frequently that period, reminding the distracted students to pay attention to the lecture…
Mo Zibei’s reaction to changing deskmates was very calm, with barely any expression on her face.
After the physics class, some bolder boys came up to talk to Qu Junzhi. Qu Junzhi responded with smiles, looking at ease.
Mo Zibei stayed for two minutes, felt it was a bit noisy, so she left her seat and went out. She went to the windowsill in the corridor, rested her elbows on the ledge, and looked out the window.
Two minutes before the class bell rang, Lin Xiaoran came over; she was heading to Class 16 next door to teach English.
Seeing Mo Zibei standing by the window lost in thought, she paused and called out: “Class Rep?”
Mo Zibei turned to look back at her, her expression slightly unnatural. She pursed her lips and called out: “Teacher Lin.”
“Mhm,” Lin Xiaoran was about to walk on but suddenly seemed to remember something and said to her, “I forgot to bring my cup. Go to the office and get it for me, fill it with water, and put it on the podium in Class 16.”
Mo Zibei remained standing there, showing no reaction.
“Hurry up, class starts in three minutes.”
Mo Zibei glanced at her, turned around, and quickly headed for the English office.
As she rushed, she checked her watch on her wrist, estimating the time was indeed tight, and then she started running.
Seeing her action, Lin Xiaoran couldn’t help but smile.
Mo Zibei fetched warm water for Lin Xiaoran, half cold and half hot. She screwed on the lid and ran back to Class 16 without stopping. She bumped into Cheng Shu, who was returning from the washroom, as she entered.
Cheng Shu was slightly surprised: “Why are you in our class?”
“Delivering a cup.”
Mo Zibei finished speaking and placed Lin Xiaoran’s cup on the podium.
The moment she put it down, the class bell rang.
“I’m going back to my class.” Seeing Lin Xiaoran talking to a student, Mo Zibei quickly dropped this sentence and slipped out.
Mo Zibei crouched low and snuck back into her own class through the back door. She was still slightly out of breath when she sat down at her desk.
Qu Junzhi looked at her curiously twice, wanting to ask what was wrong, but held back.
Since they became deskmates, Mo Zibei hadn’t said a word to her, hadn’t even looked at her much, which made Qu Junzhi feel a bit down.
During the first session of evening self-study, Mo Zibei was doing math problems when her elbow was suddenly bumped.
She turned to look at Qu Junzhi, her eyes questioning.
As Mo Zibei looked over, Qu Junzhi immediately turned her face to look elsewhere.
Mo Zibei thought it was an accident and lowered her head to continue her work.
During the second session of evening self-study, Qu Junzhi again seemingly accidentally bumped her elbow.
Mo Zibei turned her face to look, but the person was looking elsewhere again. Mo Zibei had no choice but to pull her elbow inward, increasing the distance between them.
Day students could apply to skip the third session of evening self-study. After the second session, Mo Zibei packed her bag and left in a hurry, so Qu Junzhi’s planned third elbow bump was thwarted…
They didn’t speak much in the following days. Mo Zibei was naturally reserved and a woman of few words. Qu Junzhi had a proud personality and was unwilling to speak first, so their interaction was minimal.
However, Mo Zibei didn’t find this relationship awkward. She had been like this with her previous deskmates too. Qu Junzhi, on the other hand, felt annoyed. She thought Mo Zibei might have an opinion of her or disliked her, which was why she treated her this way. But Qu Junzhi hid her feelings well. When surrounding classmates came up to talk and chat with her, she would laugh and talk with them, looking quite happy; she was very popular in the class…
Zhou Ruoxin and Meng Yuanhao both learned that a transfer student had arrived in Mo Zibei’s class and was now Mo Zibei’s deskmate. Both were curious about Qu Junzhi at first, but Mo Zibei’s reaction to the new deskmate was simply too calm, so eventually, they lost interest in asking about her.
On Friday afternoon during self-study, Lin Xiaoran suddenly rushed into Class 15 looking for Mo Zibei.
She called Mo Zibei out into the corridor: “The department has a last-minute meeting, and I can’t leave right now,” She tucked her hair behind her ear and continued, “Go to the school gate and pick up a person for me, then bring them to my office.”
Mo Zibei hummed and then asked: “What is her name?”
“Mu Hanxi,” Lin Xiaoran said, then shook her head on her own, “But you have to call her Jie-jie (older sister); she’s six years older than you.”
Mo Zibei didn’t say anything.
“I have to go, hurry up, she’s about to arrive at our school gate.”
Mo Zibei nodded.
A long time later, reflecting on this, she realized she had agreed quite readily. Lin Xiaoran didn’t just have one class representative; the next class had one too, and the person going to pick up someone didn’t have to be Mo Zibei. With just a word from Lin Xiaoran, any student with good English scores in the class would gladly rush to help…
So, sometimes fate is truly wonderful.
She ran all the way. When she reached the gate, the outside was empty. The man in the security booth on the left peered out and asked if she was going out, or if she had a gate pass.
“Waiting for someone,” she simply replied with two words.
Two or three minutes later, a white car stopped outside the gate, and a woman got out of the car.
Mo Zibei glanced over, and her breath suddenly caught: Unforgettable, a memory for a lifetime.
She was wearing a lightweight denim shirt paired with slim-fitting black trousers. The soft shirt was neatly tucked into the trousers, looking just right.
Her hair was dark brown, medium length, with slight curls at the ends. Her skin was very fair, white and gleaming like the small white sneakers she wore on her feet.
And her eye-catching, striking facial features: Mo Zibei stood rooted to the spot, her breathing slowed, and a ripple appeared in her eyes: The person’s pupils were dark, her nose bridge was delicate, her lips were tinted orange, and her earlobes were small… These features were wonderfully combined, making anyone who looked at her inexplicably moved.
Before speaking, a sentence flashed through Mo Zibei’s mind: But you have to call her Jie-jie; she’s six years older than you.
“Are you Mu Hanxi?”
Hearing this, the person looked over, meeting her gaze.
For some reason, Mo Zibei’s face suddenly felt hot, right at the moment Mu Hanxi looked over…
Through the gate railings, Mu Hanxi smiled faintly at her: “Did your Teacher Lin send you to pick me up?” When she smiled, the dimples on both sides of her cheeks showed, looking very sweet.
Mo Zibei felt a slight itch in her throat, finding it difficult to speak, and just nodded.
“Thank you for coming all this way.” Mu Hanxi’s voice was gentle.
Mo Zibei found her voice pleasant to listen to, very comfortable, and it would unconsciously make people freeze in a daze; she was no exception.
Mu Hanxi waited for her for more than ten seconds, but she didn’t react.
“Mo Zibei.” Mu Hanxi called out her name.
Mo Zibei was brought back to her senses, her expression immediately surprised, as if asking: How do you know my name?
Mu Hanxi looked at her with amusement, pointed to the security booth, and whispered: “You should go over there first and explain my situation to the uncle.”
“Oh.” Mo Zibei’s face was slightly red as she regained her composure.
After Mo Zibei explained, Mu Hanxi registered her information and was allowed in.
Mu Hanxi had a faint, very pleasant fragrance about her. Mo Zibei caught the scent as she walked side-by-side with her.
She was a person of few words and rarely took the initiative, but today she was somewhat contrary to her nature.
Her eyes were fixed straight ahead, and her right hand unconsciously tugged at the seam of her trousers, a little nervous: “How did you know my name?”
“Guess.” Mu Hanxi turned her head and glanced at her.
“Teacher… Lin told you?”
“Mhm,” Mu Hanxi smiled, “She said on WeChat that she would have her class representative come pick me up.”
Mo Zibei tightened her grip on the trouser seam, then released it: “She doesn’t just have one class representative.”
Mu Hanxi paused for a moment, then smiled again: “But she only told me about you.”
Mo Zibei stole a glance at the dimples blooming on her cheeks, and a smile flickered in her eyes.
