Kidnapping the Female Teacher's Best Friend - Chapter 31
Chapter 31
“Hanxi, who is it?” Liu Chuqing sat up from the sofa and walked over.
Mu Hanxi withdrew her hand and whispered to Mo Zibei, “Hurry and change your shoes and come in.”
“Oh.” Mo Zibei lowered her head to change her shoes, feeling that her face was even redder and hotter after Mu Hanxi touched her.
Liu Chuqing walked over and saw that it was the little kid who had taken the mandarin fish last time. It was late at night, and she was still running over to Mu Hanxi’s place…
Mo Zibei stiffened her neck and looked up, “Sister Chuqing, good evening.” Her current crab-like red face was really unsuitable for greeting people, but it would be too impolite not to speak in this situation.
“Mhm,” Noticing her excessively flushed face, Liu Chuqing found it even stranger, “Looking for Hanxi about something?”
Mo Zibei didn’t answer but turned her gaze to look at Mu Hanxi.
Mu Hanxi patted her arm thoughtfully, “Go wash your face first.”
Mo Zibei nodded, bypassed Liu Chuqing, put down her backpack, and went to the bathroom.
She turned on the faucet, filled the basin with more than half a basin of cold water, and placed the basin on the vanity. She bent over, held her breath, closed her eyes, and buried her face in the cold water. The image of Mu Hanxi touching her cheek kept replaying in her mind.
She didn’t lift her head out of the water until she was almost out of breath, supporting herself with both hands on the sides of the vanity, gasping for air. After a moment to recover, she wiped her face and looked up at herself in the mirror.
Water droplets traced a path down her cheeks, flowing over her chin and neck, finally dripping into the round neckline of her clothing.
Only when the heat on her face subsided and the redness faded did Mo Zibei push open the bathroom door and go to the balcony. She grabbed a white towel to dry her face. After drying her face, she closed her eyes and let the night wind blow on the balcony for a while before returning to the living room.
Seeing her approach, Mu Hanxi patted the sofa beside her, “Come and sit.”
Mo Zibei obediently went and sat next to her.
Mu Hanxi moved the fruit plate closer to Mo Zibei, “Your Sister Chuqing bought these. Have a taste.”
Mo Zibei picked up a cherry with her hand, put it in her mouth, and gently bit into it with her small canine teeth. The sweet, tender juice instantly flooded her mouth.
Sitting across from her, Liu Chuqing raised an eyebrow at her, “Is it delicious?”
Mo Zibei nodded, “It’s quite delicious.”
Liu Chuqing curved her lips into a smile and then asked, “You must be very busy in the third year of high school, right?”
“Not too bad.” Mo Zibei picked up another cherry.
Whenever this person ate something juicy, it always spilled from the corner of her mouth. Mu Hanxi took out a tissue and handed it to her.
Mo Zibei understood immediately, took the tissue, and wiped the corner of her mouth.
Seeing this, Liu Chuqing, who was opposite them, covered her mouth and coughed dryly, took a sip of warm water, and pretended to be composed, “Hanxi, do you like the perfume I brought you from France last time?”
Mu Hanxi nodded slightly.
If she likes it, that’s good. Liu Chuqing felt a little relieved upon hearing this.
Liu Chuqing only learned that Ruan Xuekai was back in the country when she received Mu Xuanya’s call this morning, asking for leave for Mu Hanxi. This man had been pursuing Mu Hanxi for several years without success, and now he still wouldn’t give up. After finishing her company work in the evening, Liu Chuqing quickly drove over. She originally wanted to ask about Ruan Xuekai’s matter, but the little kid Mo Zibei arrived before she could even warm her seat. Liu Chuqing was a bit frustrated, but it wasn’t appropriate to ask about these things in front of Mo Zibei, so she had to drop the topic in the end.
She had a video conference tomorrow morning and needed to prepare tonight, so she had no choice but to get up and say goodbye, “You two keep chatting. I have something to do, so I’ll leave first.”
“We’ll see you out.” Mu Hanxi and Mo Zibei both stood up at the same time and saw her to the elevator outside.
After Liu Chuqing left, only the two of them remained, walking back side by side.
“I heard my second sister say you didn’t go home all last night?” Mu Hanxi couldn’t recall the later events, only having some vague fragments in her mind.
“Mhm.” Mo Zibei didn’t elaborate. In fact, she didn’t know how to talk about last night’s events.
“My tolerance for alcohol is actually fine; I haven’t gotten drunk much normally,” Mu Hanxi’s face flushed slightly, “Yesterday, I probably drank too much.”
Mo Zibei nodded gently.
Mu Hanxi wasn’t very clear about how she behaved when drunk, but she had heard people say that some people completely change their personality when intoxicated, becoming like a different person. She hesitated for two seconds and asked, “I didn’t cause too much trouble last night, did I?”
“No,” Mo Zibei suppressed a smile, “Very quiet.” And also very cute, so cute that it makes one’s heart melt.
Mu Hanxi breathed a slight sigh of relief. She didn’t want to do anything embarrassing in front of the kid.
The two entered the door and changed their shoes. Mu Hanxi whispered to her, “Go take a shower, and I’ll put medicine on you later.”
“Mhm.”
Mo Zibei walked two steps, then turned back, “How many more times do I need the medicine?”
“You’re almost completely healed. One more application tonight, and you won’t need any more medicine after that.”
“Oh.” A faint sense of loss washed over her heart. That means there will be no reason to come here at night anymore.
She took her pajamas and went to the bathroom slowly. This time, her shower was very long, as if she were deliberately trying to prolong something, but no matter how much she dragged it out or felt reluctant, she still had to face it.
She turned off the water and planned to dry herself and change clothes to go out, but suddenly, she seemed to have thought of something. Her eyes instantly lit up. She turned the shower back on and thoroughly wet all of her long hair.
She usually washed her hair at home and had never washed it here. She would just indulge herself tonight… Pouring some of Mu Hanxi’s shampoo into her palm, she meticulously washed her long hair from top to bottom. This distraction took up some more time.
She didn’t dry her hair much. When she came out, water droplets were still dripping down her hair strands.
Mu Hanxi was originally in the bedroom replying to emails on her laptop. Hearing the sound of movement, she pushed the door open to take a look.
“You washed your hair?” Mu Hanxi looked slightly surprised. This person had never done this when showering at her place.
“Mhm.” Mo Zibei looked a little embarrassed. She just felt that tonight was the last time for the medicine, and she wouldn’t be able to just come here casually at night afterward. She felt a little reluctant and wanted to use this as an excuse to linger a little longer.
Seeing the water still dripping from her hair, Mu Hanxi waved at her, “Come over quickly.”
Mo Zibei grabbed the towel and walked over obediently.
Mu Hanxi took the towel from her hand and chided, “Your hair is so wet, and you came out like this.”
Mo Zibei blushed and tugged at the bottom corner of her pajamas, not daring to speak.
There was an intentional element to her action, as she thought, what if Mu Hanxi saw it and would help her dry her hair…
“Sit on the bed.” This person was taller than her, and it wasn’t easy to dry her hair standing up.
“Oh.” Mo Zibei narrowed her eyes and smiled.
She sat on the edge of the bed, and Mu Hanxi stood in front of her, looking down and diligently drying her hair. Once the hair stopped dripping, Mu Hanxi put the towel in Mo Zibei’s hand, bent down, and went to the drawer under the table to get the hairdryer.
She plugged it in, turned on the hairdryer, and first blew air onto her own palm to check the heat. Once it felt right, she lifted Mo Zibei’s beautiful hair and helped to blow-dry it.
Her movements were gentle, meticulous, and patient. Mo Zibei’s fingers followed her movements, stroking the bed sheet beneath her again and again, and the part near her heart felt soft and swollen.
Only after her hair was completely dried did Mu Hanxi turn off the hairdryer and instruct, “Always dry your hair promptly after washing it, or you’ll get headaches.”
“Mhm… I know.” The nicer she was, the more Mo Zibei was reluctant to leave her.
“I’ll go wash my hands. I’ll help you with the medicine in a moment.” She took the towel out with her and hung it on the balcony.
Mo Zibei turned her head to look out the window. The moonlight was very bright tonight, and the dark clouds did not obscure its radiance.
She watched for a while and became lost in thought, wishing she could even become a ray of moonlight. That way, no matter which dark, deserted corner Mu Hanxi walked into, she could bring a little light and stay by her side…
Mu Hanxi noticed the girl daydreaming as soon as she came in. Following her gaze, she saw the girl was looking at the moon.
She walked over quietly, sat down next to her, and watched with her for a moment.
“Kid,” several minutes had passed, and the girl was still looking, not knowing what she was thinking, “It’s time for the medicine.”
Mo Zibei turned her face, her eyes fixed on Mu Hanxi. Her eyes seemed to hold the stars and moon, shining brightly.
Meeting those clear, bright eyes, Mu Hanxi couldn’t help but feel a little dazed.
“Mu Hanxi…” Mo Zibei murmured absentmindedly.
The girl called her name. Mu Hanxi’s heart trembled for no reason, and a tingling sensation ran through her… Then, as if realizing something, she asked in surprise, “What did you just call me?”
Mo Zibei was brought back to reality by the question, and her small face instantly flushed…
She lowered her head, her palms rubbing her knees. Her mind raced, and she quickly tried to cover up, “I just think the name Mu Hanxi sounds very nice… I wanted to ask who named you…”
Mu Hanxi found Mo Zibei’s reaction a little strange, but she couldn’t pinpoint why.
“My mother named me.” Mu Hanxi’s mother was a famous literature professor at a university and was quite accomplished in her field of study.
“Hanxi, Hanxi,” Mo Zibei whispered while quickly searching her knowledge base for related information. She suddenly looked up at Mu Hanxi, her eyes smiling, “Morning sunlight?”
The little kid guessed correctly. Mu Hanxi smiled, “Didn’t you say you weren’t good at liberal arts?” She hadn’t forgotten the highly artistic line the kid had said before: “There is honey among the flowers, and naturally, it will attract butterflies.”
“My Chinese is okay,” Mo Zibei touched her nose shyly, “It might be because I like reading extracurricular books.”
“There are many English readings, too, which are very interesting. You can try them later.”
“Mhm,” Mo Zibei suddenly asked, “Sister Mu, have you always been this good at English?”
Mu Hanxi reached out and stroked the top of her head, “Kid, it’s time for the medicine.” Even though Mu Hanxi didn’t say it, Mo Zibei guessed the answer: she’s always been good, but she’s being humble and doesn’t want to say it.
“Your injuries are almost healed. Why are you still unhappy?” Mu Hanxi heard the small sigh when she was applying the ointment to her face.
Mo Zibei lowered her eyes, not speaking.
“What exactly is wrong?”
Mo Zibei pursed her lips but still didn’t say anything. She really couldn’t bring herself to say it.
Mu Hanxi was a little annoyed that the girl was silent and didn’t answer. She poked her forehead with her finger, “Shoulder.”
Mo Zibei reached out and pulled her collar aside, then looked down, “Sister Mu, do you think my shoulder looks good?”
Mu Hanxi smiled tightly but didn’t reply.
“Sister Mu?”
“What?”
“Why… don’t you answer me?”
“I asked you a question just now, and you didn’t answer me either…” Her tone was one of gentle reproach.
Mo Zibei blushed and muttered softly in embarrassment, “It’s not the same.”
Mu Hanxi ignored her.
After applying the ointment to her lower leg, it was time for her back.
“Lie on your stomach.”
Mo Zibei obediently lay prone on the bed and lifted her shirt.
After applying the ointment to her back, she would have to go home. The more she thought about it, the more her heart ached. She reached out and pulled Mu Hanxi’s pillow over, placing it under her chin, and secretly sniffing the scent on it.
Suddenly, she caught sight of a small hair tie. It was right where the pillow had been placed just now. She widened her eyes and looked closely again. It was indeed a plain black hair tie without any embellishments, very simple in style.
She reached out her long arm and hooked it with her finger, pulling it over. She examined it carefully in her palm for a few moments, and the corners of her mouth curved up. She turned her head sideways and asked softly, “Sister Mu, can I have this hair tie?”
Mu Hanxi looked up. It was the hair tie she used to tie her hair when washing her face in the morning.
“How about we trade?” Mo Zibei suddenly thought that if Mu Hanxi only had this one, she wouldn’t be able to use it tomorrow morning, “I’ll give you mine.”
Mu Hanxi found it a little funny, “Why do we have to trade?”
Mo Zibei didn’t answer her question. She fumbled around and pulled out a blue hair tie from her pajama pants. It was her own.
“I’ll give you this.” She held up the blue one with her right hand, while her left hand tightly clenched the black one.
Mu Hanxi stared at the bright eyes of the girl for a while, and her heart suddenly softened. She softly hummed in affirmation.
Mo Zibei grinned, revealing her two sharp little canine teeth, looking exceptionally adorable.
Mu Hanxi unconsciously curved her lips in return…
