Irreversible - Chapter 7
Chapter 7: The Scumbag’s Redemption (Part 2)
The afternoon classes ended quickly. Shortly after the final bell rang, Su Nanfeng and Ding Yi blocked the entrance to Class 17.
The late-summer sunset was exceptionally stifling. Orange-red rays poked through the clouds, slanting across the white classroom walls and casting a golden glow. Su Nanfeng stood with her back against the corridor railing, facing the classroom entrance against the backdrop of the sunset, appearing unusually handsome and cold.
She wasn’t particularly famous yet, but she was good-looking, and students passing by couldn’t help but take a second glance. When they noticed her striking resemblance to the class’s great beauty, they widened their eyes in surprise. They look so alike, are they sisters?
Su Zhiyi walked out of the classroom, her schoolbag neatly on her shoulders. Su Nanfeng and Ding Yi straightened up instantly and hurried over. “Zhiyi…”
Su Zhiyi scanned Su Nanfeng. “I’m going to the hospital to see Gu Xizhou. Are you coming?”
Su Nanfeng, nursing the wounds on her face, stared at Su Zhiyi in shock. “You’re going to the hospital to visit someone like her?” She didn’t seem to care at all that her own sister had bitten her face. Could it be that after presenting as an Omega, my sister has fallen for some weak, little Alpha at first sight?
It was just like when they were children, Su Zhiyi had been obsessed with stray cats and dogs. She would crouch in the kindergarten garden to feed them snacks even though it wasn’t allowed at home. It wasn’t until she got her hand scratched by a cat that their mother started watching her like a hawk. Her sister was different from her, she was incredibly compassionate. But precisely because of that, Su Nanfeng grew even more vigilant.
Su Zhiyi walked forward, her heart churning with irritation. Although she felt frustrated, she didn’t intend to give up on her sister. She sighed and explained in a soft voice, “On the subway this morning, I was almost filmed by a voyeur.”
“It was Gu Xizhou who saved me.”
Su Nanfeng followed alongside her, eyes widening, her beautiful phoenix eyes full of disbelief. “Subway? Voyeur? Didn’t Mom have someone send you to school?”
As they talked about family, Su Zhiyi found a small spark of sisterly closeness. She replied softly, “First High School is too far from Mom’s place, so I’m living near Taihe Road now.”
Su Nanfeng was even more shocked. “Living alone? Mom is letting an Omega live alone?”
They reached the stairwell. Su Zhiyi walked down the stairs. “I’m not alone. Mom sent Aunt Li Lai to take care of my daily life.” Li Lai was Su Zhiyi’s caregiver, a female Omega.
Su Nanfeng’s eyes lit up. “I live alone too. Mother bought a villa near the school, you can move in with me.”
Ding Yi chimed in to encourage her: “Exactly, Sister Zhiyi. Nanfeng has been living alone since middle school. If you’re together, you can look out for each other. Otherwise, it’ll be like last year—Nanfeng was home alone, and the help couldn’t even take care of her when she was sick.”
Once they reached the ground floor, Su Zhiyi stopped. Amidst the crowd of students passing by, she looked up at Su Nanfeng, earnest and serious. “Why would I want to live with you?”
Su Nanfeng bit her lip, the bite mark on her cheek looking even more prominent, and put on a pitiful look. “Zhiyi, we’re sisters…it’s only natural for sisters to live together.”
Su Zhiyi’s heart softened, but her words remained firm. “But my sister wouldn’t commit violence against a classmate.”
Su Nanfeng felt a chill run through her. She stepped back, her expression complex. “You still think I’m the one who beat Gu Xizhou up unilaterally?”
Su Zhiyi sighed, heartbroken. “What else am I supposed to think? I saw you kicking her with my own eyes.” Remembering the scene from noon, Su Zhiyi’s tone sharpened. “She’s such a small person, being thrown to the ground and kicked by you, how could you do that?”
Faced with her sister’s accusation, Su Nanfeng felt awful. She pointed to the corner of her mouth, indignant. “Then why don’t you mention that she bit me too! If she had used a little more force, I would have been disfigured.”
Su Zhiyi glanced at the teeth marks on Su Nanfeng’s cheek, looked away, and hardened her heart. “But did she put you in the hospital?”
“I…” Su Nanfeng was left speechless. Ding Yi hurriedly interjected: “Sister Zhiyi, Nanfeng really is innocent in this. Gu Xizhou stole the watch first…”
Su Zhiyi wasn’t buying it. She looked at Ding Yi’s sycophantic expression and retorted sharply: “Oh? Is that so? Can a watch that fell off be put back on so perfectly during a struggle?”
“When I saw you, Nanfeng’s watch was still neatly on her wrist.”
Su Nanfeng: …
Her sister’s keen observation stiffened Su Nanfeng’s body. Su Zhiyi wasn’t about to let her off the hook. She pushed harder. “Nanfeng, how many times has this happened? You claim she’s your middle school classmate, yet you’ve said so many bad things about her in your texts. This is not like your usual self.”
“You are desperately explaining, or rather, justifying yourself. You slandered her. Others might not see it, but I do.”
Su Nanfeng took a step back and clenched her fists. “I…”
Su Zhiyi looked at her with a mix of disappointment and frustration. “Why have you become so mean? How could you treat a good child like that? Do you know that this is school bullying?”
Of course, Su Nanfeng knew. For three years in middle school, she had led a group in this bullying game, locking onto targets and savoring the pleasure of cat-and-mouse. When teachers investigated, she would easily fool them with her pure appearance and her friends’ rehearsed tactics.
As for her parents…Ha. Her parents didn’t care at all what she did at school. They only told her to play around until university, then go to business school and inherit the family fortune.
The only thing she cared about was this twin sister who had been forced apart from her since childhood. That was why she preferred to play the victim rather than let her sister see what kind of person she truly was. But fate had it that on the very first day they reunited, she let her sister see her malicious side. And worse, she couldn’t trick her way out of it.
My sister is just too smart.
Su Nanfeng frantically searched for a strategy in her mind. After a long moment, she found an excuse: “Gu Xizhou…she had a crush on me in middle school, and she peeped at me in the changing room several times…She was fanatical and disgusting. This time, in the restroom…”
Before Su Nanfeng could finish, Su Zhiyi cut her off, unable to stand it anymore: “Enough! There isn’t a single word of truth coming out of your mouth, and I don’t want to hear it!”
Su Zhiyi decided to ignore her for the rest of the day. She hoisted her bag and walked toward the gate, her face stern. “Regardless, you hit someone, so you should apologize. As long as you don’t think that hitting someone with Ding Yi was wrong, I have nothing to say to you. Sister, you’ve disappointed me so much!”
Su Zhiyi left these words behind and walked toward the school gate, facing the sunset. Su Nanfeng stared at her sister’s retreating back, then turned to Ding Yi with a dark expression: “Find someone to investigate and see if Gu Xizhou has had any contact with Zhiyi before this.”
She wanted to see exactly what tricks Gu Xizhou had used to make her own sister trust her so much and doubt her own flesh and blood.
The kicks Gu Xizhou took from Su Nanfeng at noon caused her unbearable pain. Fortunately, there was no damage to her internal organs, but the sharp pain caused her already delicate stomach to worsen. The entire physical examination process was exhausting. When it was all over, she was pushed into a hospital room, lying over the edge of the bed in agony as she vomited.
Her young homeroom teacher, Song Qiao, was frantic. She grabbed the doctor and asked in a panic: “Doctor, are you sure the child has no internal organ damage? How can she be in such bad shape?”
The doctor patiently explained: “The child’s health is poor, she has a stomach ulcer. The impact triggered a neural response, causing this reaction. Let her get some rest.”
Only after the doctor’s repeated assurances did Song Qiao let out a breath of relief. After the doctor left, Song Qiao sat by the bedside, looking at Gu Xizhou’s pale, weak face with pity. “Xizhou, I’ve called your parent. She won’t be able to come until after work. I’ll stay here at the hospital with you until she arrives.”
Gu Xizhou looked at Song Qiao weakly. “Thank you, Teacher.”
Song Qiao sighed. “It’s what I’m supposed to do.”
Song Qiao checked her watch; it was already 5:30 PM. “Alright, it’s dinner time. Is there anything you’d like to eat?”
Gu Xizhou shook her head.
Song Qiao assumed she was just shy and smiled. “Your stomach is upset, so I’ll order you some porridge. How does boat porridge sound?”
Just as Gu Xizhou was about to tell her not to go to the trouble, the door to the room suddenly pushed open. Gu Xizhou and Song Qiao turned their heads simultaneously toward the entrance.
Standing outside was a girl with straight, black hair, wearing a neat ribbon and her schoolbag. She stood perfectly upright. The sunset light flickered over her, making her shine brilliantly. The girl was holding a bag full of fruit and food. She curled her eyes, smiled sweetly, and said: “Hello, Teacher Song Qiao. I’m Su Zhiyi.”
“I’m here to visit Gu Xizhou on behalf of the whole class.”
Gu Xizhou stared at the girl’s poise and the sweet smile on her face, her eyes widening in astonishment.
