Irreversible - Chapter 4
Chapter 4: The Scumbag’s Self-Rescue (Part 4)
Upon hearing Gu Xizhou’s sentiments, 0820 remained silent for a moment before replying with icy calm: “That’s fine, but it’s a childish, naive delusion.”
“Once you grow up, you’ll understand how disgusting it is to be mediocre, incompetent, and ordinary.”
The entire history of the ABO society is one of one gender oppressing the other two. Any tolerance shown by those who hold the power toward the disadvantaged is merely an act of pity. Yet, this pity often called the “radiance of humanity”, is incredibly unreliable. Rather than expecting generosity from the strong, it is better to forge a powerful self. At least, that is what 0820 believes.
Clearly, Gu Xizhou’s current mindset is diametrically opposed to 0820’s.
Gu Xizhou did not bother responding to 0820. Once Su Zhiyi finished her self-introduction, she walked into the classroom amidst the thunderous applause. Her intrusion was like a tiny pebble dropped into boiling water; it barely caused a ripple. Su Zhiyi, standing on the podium, turned her head and glanced at her with surprise.
Also looking over along with Su Zhiyi was the young head teacher, Song Qiao. This elegant Beta lady, upon seeing Gu Xizhou, was pleasantly surprised, as if she had discovered a fish that had slipped through the net: “Alright, the last student in our class has arrived.”
Gu Xizhou paused, only to be singled out by Song Qiao: “Student Gu Xizhou, you’re the last one. Come up and introduce yourself.”
The students below all stared at Gu Xizhou in unison.
Gu Xizhou tightened her grip on her bag straps. Subconsciously, she turned her head, her eyes like a deer lost deep in a forest, gazing in panic toward Su Zhiyi in the audience. Perhaps it was an illusion, but in that moment, she actually caught a hint of complex pity in Su Zhiyi’s eyes. Su Zhiyi curved her lips, smiled at her, and said gently: “Come up, classmate. It’s your turn.”
Gu Xizhou stared at her blankly for a long while before nodding and walking onto the podium.
On the first day of school, students don’t have formal classes, aside from introductions and getting to know their teachers. As students entering the senior grades, the first lesson they learned was—moving their own books.
Class 17 had 40 students, with an average of over twenty books per person; nearly everyone had to go to the library to fetch their textbooks. Out of consideration for protecting the Omegas, Song Qiao only asked the Alphas and Betas to move books when taking roll. However, because Su Zhiyi had been late that morning, Song Qiao handed down a slight punishment, making her go to the library along with the Alphas.
At 10:30 AM, the scorching late-summer sun mercilessly baked the earth. The area in front of the library was bustling with people, and students from different grades, wearing ties of various colors, moved back and forth between the teaching buildings carrying stacks of books.
Gu Xizhou held a high stack of books, walking out of the library without much difficulty, heading toward the teaching building under the blazing sun. The towering textbooks blocked her view, so she had to tilt her head out from the side of the book pile to carefully watch her path.
Just as she was walking silently, a gentle voice came from beside her: “This stack of books is way too high. Can you carry it?”
The voice rang out like thunder in a dark sky, scaring Gu Xizhou so much her heart almost leaped out of her chest. Gu Xizhou stumbled, nearly falling over.
The girl beside her quickly called out: “Hey… be careful…” A hand reached out from the side and grabbed her.
Gu Xizhou staggered forward a few steps, barely managing to steady herself, before turning to look at the girl beside her: “Thank you…”
The moment she lifted her eyes, Gu Xizhou saw the girl’s appearance clearly: a fresh, elegant face, fair skin, and straight, long hair. It was none other than Su Zhiyi.
Su Zhiyi was supporting some books with one hand and holding onto Gu Xizhou’s jacket with the other, smiling with great approachability: “You’re welcome.”
Su Zhiyi released Gu Xizhou’s sleeve and reached toward the towering stack of books she was holding, pulling some over while whispering: “The textbook administrator is really something… knowing you’re an Alpha, they gave you so many books. How can you carry them when you’re so small?”
Su Zhiyi pulled off seven or eight books before stopping. Holding them in both hands, she smiled at the stunned Gu Xizhou: “Alright, classmate, let me share some of the load for you.”
Gu Xizhou stared at her eyes, which were curved into crescents, feeling dazed: Su Zhiyi…is she really this cheerful? But in her dreams…even when she smiled, it was shy, reserved, and faint.
Seeing Gu Xizhou looking dazed, Su Zhiyi called out to her with concern a few times: “Classmate…classmate…”
Gu Xizhou finally came to, looking at the books in Su Zhiyi’s hands, feeling conflicted: “It’s not heavy, I can carry it.” Although she was currently on the shorter side, after presenting as an Alpha, her physical fitness had kept pace. These burdens, which used to be heavy for her, had now become easy.
But Su Zhiyi…
Gu Xizhou hesitated for a moment before saying to her: “Won’t it be heavy if you hold so many? Maybe you should put them back for me.”
Su Zhiyi shook her head and smiled: “It’s okay, I can hold them. Let’s go back.” She took the lead and started walking. Gu Xizhou looked at her back, said “Oh,” and followed after her, feeling a step behind.
The two walked one after the other. Gu Xizhou gazed at the girl’s lithe silhouette, looking at her straight long hair, and feeling the pleasant fragrance emanating from her, she couldn’t help but think: Even though they are twins, Su Zhiyi feels nothing like Su Nanfeng.
But come to think of it, what did Su Nanfeng actually look like?
After only one summer vacation, she had almost forgotten.
As she was thinking this, a group of aggressive-looking people suddenly appeared in front of them. The second person on the left, upon seeing Su Zhiyi, shouted out as if they had found a rare treasure: “Sister Zhiyi!”
Hearing this voice, Gu Xizhou’s entire body stiffened, and she almost stopped walking. It’s Ding Yi!
If Ding Yi was here, it meant Su Nanfeng was also here.
Gu Xizhou’s blood froze. She looked up numbly toward the source of the voice. As expected, she saw that nightmare-inducing, cold face standing in the crowd, arms folded, surrounded like the moon by stars, casting a haughty, contemptuous glance toward her.
Gu Xizhou felt like a frog pinned by a venomous snake, unable to move a muscle. Eighteen months of bullying had eroded all her bravery and self-esteem like poison eating into bone, leaving only cowardice and sorrow. She stopped in her tracks, like a cat with its throat clutched, unable to make a sound. Gu Xizhou’s head was buzzing; she couldn’t hear a word they were saying.
Just then, Su Zhiyi took a step toward her side, seemingly shielding her, and called out to Su Nanfeng with a smile: “Sister…”
Su Nanfeng was surprised to see her, but due to years of distance and being in front of her entourage, Su Nanfeng just responded with an “Mhm” and asked with extreme coldness: “Why are you here too?”
Su Zhiyi chuckled: “I got admitted here.”
Su Nanfeng nodded indifferently, lifted her chin haughtily, and commanded Ding Yi and the others: “Go help her move her books.”
Ding Yi, being quick-witted, hurriedly stepped forward with eagerness: “Sister Zhiyi, the books are too heavy, let us help you.”
Su Zhiyi shook her head while holding the books, smiling gently: “No need, we’re almost there. My classmate and I can just move them up.”
Though her words were soft, her gaze was resolute, making Ding Yi’s heart skip a beat, she had no choice but to retreat in frustration.
After dismissing Ding Yi, Su Zhiyi turned her head and woke the shell-shocked Gu Xizhou: “Xizhou…”
Gu Xizhou looked up, dazed, staring into those clear, soft eyes, hearing Su Zhiyi say: “Let’s go, let’s head back to the classroom.”
Gu Xizhou finally came to her senses, nodded, and left with Su Zhiyi.
Yet, as they brushed past Su Nanfeng and her group, Gu Xizhou felt a chilly, malicious gaze land on her back, like a ghost, following her everywhere. At the same time, 0820 shouted in her mind: “Look, I told you Su Nanfeng would be here!”
“Even if things have changed, everything is still following the same old path.”
You are still going to be shrouded in the shadow named Su Nanfeng.
Meeting Su Nanfeng again made Gu Xizhou’s mood plummet. Fear tormented her stomach, and she couldn’t eat much at lunch before going to the restroom to vomit.
In the female Alpha restroom on the third floor of the teaching building, Gu Xizhou pushed open a stall door and stumbled toward the sink. She turned on the tap and, listening to the rushing water, washed her hands in a trance.
While washing, she thought: What should I do if Su Nanfeng comes to find trouble with me later?
Should I beat Su Nanfeng up?
But my physique is so weak…
Thinking of this, Gu Xizhou knit her fine eyebrows, her face turning even paler. Logically, most Alphas have superior height, but after she presented, she could barely match the height of most Omegas. This was because during middle school, Su Nanfeng never gave her a chance to eat a proper lunch. Not only did she mess with her meals, but she would also scavenge all her pocket money.
Eating irregularly had caused young Gu Xizhou to suffer from malnutrition and a stomach condition. Whenever she felt troubled, her stomach would ache intensely.
But even being this weak, she didn’t want to be bullied anymore.
Thinking of this, Gu Xizhou clenched her small fists, her gaze gradually becoming determined. She cupped a handful of water, splashed it on her face, rubbed her face hard, and encouraged herself secretly: “You have to do your best, Gu Xizhou!”
Suddenly, a sneer came from the doorway of the restroom. It was a harsh, screeching sound, like chalk rubbing against a blackboard, so striking that goosebumps broke out all over Gu Xizhou’s body. The stress response left her frozen in place, afraid to look back.
Su Nanfeng, who also had long, straight black hair, walked slowly toward Gu Xizhou’s back in her leather shoes, then reached out and grabbed her collar.
Gu Xizhou shivered, her whole body ready to jump.
Su Nanfeng’s tall frame loomed over her from top to bottom, nearly pinning her underneath, gripping the back of her neck with a chilling smile: “Gu Xizhou, you’ve got a lot of nerve.”
“Daring to block me? You really don’t learn your lesson from a beating!”
Su Nanfeng reached out and pinched Gu Xizhou’s chin, forcing her to look up. Gu Xizhou looked into the vanity mirror above the sink, locking eyes with a pair of extremely malicious eyes.
Amidst Gu Xizhou’s terrified gaze, the Su Nanfeng in the mirror, looking like an Asura, hugged her shoulders intimately, choking her neck tightly, and revealed an incredibly cruel smile: “Tell me, how should I punish you, Gu Xizhou?”
