I'm Not Playing This Vicious Female Supporting Character Anymore! - Chapter 7
Rong Xi glanced down at the lollipop in her hand, unsure if Qin Yuzhen had genuinely given it to her or if she was simply trying to throw it at her. Given Qin Yuzhen’s personality, she suspected the latter was more likely.
She stuffed the lollipop into her pocket and sat down in her seat.
Pei Jingyue shot Rong Xi a glance and snorted. “She clearly gave you something to eat, yet you’re acting like you’ve been bullied.”
Qin Yuzhen toyed with the candy wrapper. “Maybe she was startled.”
She wondered if Rong Xi had genuinely misunderstood her intentions, but for the sake of her image, she wouldn’t explain herself to Pei Jingyue.
Pei Jingyue scoffed again. When the school bell rang, she quickly stuffed her snacks into her pocket and glanced at the math teacher who had just entered the classroom. “Watch out. Old Qian loves calling on students to solve problems at the board. Since you’re new, there’s a ninety percent chance he’ll call on you.”
“Got it,” Qin Yuzhen nodded.
According to the original storyline, the math teacher would indeed call on her to solve a problem. But now that she was sitting here… the story wouldn’t unfold as before. She wondered just how terrifying this teacher was—Liang Xuzhou had even sat up and stopped sleeping.
“I heard a new student joined your class. Where is she? Let me see.” Old Qian scanned the classroom.
Qin Yuzhen silently raised her hand.
“Qin Yuzhen, right?”
“Mm-hmm,” Qin Yuzhen nodded.
“Good. Then today’s problem will be solved by your desk partner,” Old Qian said.
Liang Xuzhou, who had been daydreaming, froze, thinking he had misheard. He glanced sideways at Qin Yuzhen, then looked up at Old Qian and pointed at himself.
“Yes, that’s you. Hurry up and come to the front,” Old Qian said impatiently. “We only have forty-five minutes in this class. How many minutes do you plan to waste?”
The class was equally shocked. Qin Yuzhen offered a gentle smile, concealing her accomplishments.
Host, you’re so naughty, the System grumbled.
“Senior three students are sleeping in class every day. I’m just motivating him to study properly,” Qin Yuzhen replied.
Besides, she figured Liang Xuzhou could probably solve it. Though when he stood at the blackboard, he froze, completely motionless.
Old Qian crossed his arms and stood beside Liang Xuzhou. “Don’t know? I just explained this yesterday! Grab your textbook and stand at the back.”
Qin Yuzhen held her pen, chuckling softly. When Liang Xuzhou returned, he glared at her with mock anger, slamming his textbook down with a loud thud.
“Who are you snapping at?” Old Qian glared at Liang Xuzhou. “Don’t you dare act like you’re in the right! Don’t want to listen? Then step outside and stand there.”
Liang Xuzhou: …
Qin Yuzhen cleared her throat, desperately holding back a laugh.
“Host, you’re so naughty.”
“He made the noise himself. What does that have to do with me?” Qin Yuzhen finished writing the problem and put down her pen.
“Then let Liang Xuzhou’s desk partner explain this problem.”
Qin Yuzhen looked up in confusion: ???
“Didn’t I tell you to use an Item Card to lower your profile?”
The System fell silent.
Qin Yuzhen gritted her teeth. That System was definitely being deliberate. She stood up.
Rong Xi, seated in front of her, turned around to look at Qin Yuzhen, a hint of concern in her eyes.
Pei Jingyue discreetly tried to pass her notebook over, but Old Qian’s glare made her pull it back.
Qin Yuzhen finally began to speak.
She had assumed she wouldn’t be called on, so she had only written down the basic steps.
Only after she finished speaking did Old Qian’s expression improve slightly.
As Qin Yuzhen sat down, she saw Rong Xi visibly relax.
She was curious about what kind of image she presented to Rong Xi.
“Why even wonder? She definitely thinks you’re no good,” the System said.
Qin Yuzhen: …
“Are you trying to rebel? Not letting me use my Item Card and reading my thoughts at will?” Qin Yuzhen tapped her pen on her notebook.
“I’m just messing with you.”
Qin Yuzhen ignored it. Liang Xuzhou stood at the door for twenty minutes before Old Qian finally let him in.
Liang Xuzhou was furious, but he suppressed his anger and carefully placed his books on the desk.
“Are you the reincarnation of a comet?”
“So what if I sit crooked and attract the teacher’s attention? What does that have to do with you?” Qin Yuzhen replied indifferently. “Would any of this be happening if you paid attention in class? Instead of blaming others, try looking at yourself.”
Liang Xuzhou gritted his teeth. He narrowed his eyes, feeling a strong intuition that all the misfortunes befalling him today were connected to Qin Yuzhen, though he had no proof. For now, he could only look forward to switching seats and putting some distance between them.
After class, Rong Xi approached hesitantly. “Want to get water?”
“Mm-hmm,” Qin Yuzhen nodded. Her water bottle was the same style as Rong Xi’s, just a different color. She glanced back at Pei Jingyue. “You coming?”
Pei Jingyue immediately shook her head and turned away.
Qin Yuzhen and Rong Xi left the classroom together.
Rong Xi, holding her cup, glanced at Qin Yuzhen. “You startled me when the teacher called on you during class.”
“Why would you be startled? Did you think I wouldn’t be able to answer?” Qin Yuzhen looked at Rong Xi, her gaze probing.
“No…” Rong Xi quickly sensed the conversation was heading into dangerous territory.
Just as Qin Yuzhen was about to speak, she noticed two boys ahead, both holding cups of clearly hot water, engaged in conversation. Another boy emerged from the men’s restroom and bumped into one of them.
Seeing the water about to spill onto a girl in front of them, Qin Yuzhen reacted swiftly, stepping forward and pulling the girl back. Caught off balance by the momentum, the girl stumbled into Qin Yuzhen’s arms before she could react.
The water splashed onto the floor, sending droplets onto the shoes of those nearby.
The three boys, witnessing the incident, apologized repeatedly before quickly leaving.
“Thank you.” The girl Qin Yuzhen had pulled back took a step back, her head lowered, her face flushed.
“It’s alright.”
The girl quickly glanced up at Qin Yuzhen, muttered a “thank you,” shot a brief look at Rong Xi, and swiftly left.
“Host, did you pull her away just because she’s good-looking?” the System asked.
“I’m just kind-hearted,” Qin Yuzhen replied cheerfully.
Rong Xi followed behind Qin Yuzhen. “That was Gu Si from the Honors Class for liberal arts.”
“Aren’t the liberal arts classes downstairs?” Qin Yuzhen asked casually as they entered the break room.
“Maybe she came up to find someone.”
Qin Yuzhen glanced at Rong Xi. “You know her?”
“We were in the same class before we split into liberal arts and science streams in our first year. The Gu and Rong families are also quite close,” Rong Xi explained. Then she added under her breath, “I don’t really like her.”
“Why not?”
“No particular reason.” Rong Xi finished filling her bottle and screwed the cap back on.
Qin Yuzhen didn’t press further. It was understandable that Rong Xi wouldn’t like Gu Si. After all, in the original story, Gu Si was one of the vicious female supporting characters, even if she wasn’t directly on Qin Yuzhen’s opposing team.
The science class had more boys, who usually hung around the railings like crows during break, only dispersing when the academic dean came to shout them away. The corridor was packed, and Qin Yuzhen and Rong Xi strolled through the crowd back to their classroom.
“System, what’s Gu Si’s character profile?”
“Uh, I can’t access it. Host, there’s a glitch again—your access has suddenly been revoked.”
Qin Yuzhen: ???
“It’s not related to the Main System Space,” the System hastily added, noticing Qin Yuzhen’s darkening expression.
Qin Yuzhen felt she could smash the nearby window with a single punch.
“What’s wrong?” Rong Xi asked cautiously, noticing Qin Yuzhen’s grim expression.
“Nothing.”
When they reached the classroom, Qin Yuzhen noticed a bottle of milk on her desk.
“Gu Si from the liberal arts class just brought this over and left it on your desk,” Pei Jingyue explained, seeing her return.
“Okay,” Qin Yuzhen nodded, glancing at Rong Xi. “What’s with that look?”
“No look,” Rong Xi retorted, turning away and sulking back to his seat.
“Girls these days are really hard to figure out,” Qin Yuzhen said, poking at the carton of milk.
“Why would Gu Si keep giving you milk for no reason?”
“She did me a favor, so this is her way of thanking me.” Qin Yuzhen took a sip of the milk and glanced at Rong Xi, noticing he was also looking back at her. Though he quickly turned away after being caught, she wondered, “Is there some kind of conflict between Gu Si and Rong Xi?”
“Nothing serious,” Pei Jingyue replied casually. “Both of them have good relationships with others, but they just can’t stand each other.”
Qin Yuzhen figured that as the protagonist, Rong Xi wouldn’t hold a grudge over something so trivial. There must be another reason.
Perhaps because Qin Yuzhen had drunk Gu Si’s milk—a crime unforgivable in Rong Xi’s eyes—it wasn’t until lunchtime that he reluctantly approached her to go to the cafeteria together.
“I’m only taking you this once. Next time, you’ll go on your own,” Rong Xi said, his voice flat, trying to sound threatening.
“Okay,” Qin Yuzhen replied indifferently.
Rong Xi glanced at her, his gaze carrying a hint of reproach.
“Hello, Rong Xi. If you’re busy, feel free to go eat first. I’ll keep her company,” Gu Si suddenly appeared, her hands clasped behind her back, leaning slightly towards Qin Yuzhen as she sidled up beside her. “Besides, I don’t think a bottle of milk is enough to express my gratitude. I’d like to treat her to lunch.”
Gu Si was petite and doll-like, with a sweet, pretty face. She smiled brightly at Qin Yuzhen, and the System knew Qin Yuzhen wouldn’t be able to resist.
As expected, Qin Yuzhen nodded without hesitation. “You don’t need to treat me. I didn’t do anything.”
Gu Si’s eyes lit up as she hugged Qin Yuzhen’s arm. “So, you’re saying yes? I asked around and found out your name is Qin Yuzhen. Can I call you Zhenzhen?”
Rong Xi: ???
“I liked you the moment I saw you. Sorry, I’m a little forward. You don’t mind, do you?” Gu Si released her grip, a blush creeping across her cheeks.
Rong Xi looked at Qin Yuzhen.
Qin Yuzhen smiled warmly and simply said, “Of course not.”
