I'm Not Playing This Vicious Female Supporting Character Anymore! - Chapter 5
The moment the car stopped, Rong Xi hurriedly got out. She longed to retreat directly to her room, but her feet remained rooted in place.
Lunch was already prepared. The two of them entered the dining room and sat facing each other.
The meal was lavish, though Mother Rong was still absent.
Qin Yuzhen rested her chin in her hand and picked up a piece of braised pork.
“You’re going back to school tomorrow,” Rong Xi said softly. “I can introduce you to her then.”
Qin Yuzhen glanced at Rong Xi. “I just want to chat with my little sister. Does she really dislike her big sister so much?”
Rong Xi fell silent for two seconds before finally steeling herself. “Sister, can you please stop talking like that?”
“Ah, even my way of speaking bothers my little sister. How disheartening.”
Rong Xi felt like crying. She stopped talking and lowered her head to eat silently.
After lunch, Qin Yuzhen retreated to her room without pressing Rong Xi for any introductions. Watching Qin Yuzhen leave, Rong Xi quickly retreated to her own room, hung a “Napping” sign on the door, and locked it to prevent Qin Yuzhen from coming to find her.
Qin Yuzhen figured that if Rong Xi really wanted to find her, he would probably just knock on her door instead of turning and leaving.
According to the script, Qin Yuzhen was supposed to enter Rong Xi’s class tomorrow. However, since Rong Xi was in the Honors Class, the original character, who couldn’t keep up, would soon be transferred to the regular class. This was also a major point of conflict between the original character and Rong Xi.
But Qin Yuzhen was certain she would never be transferred to the regular class.
Qin Yuzhen sat on the balcony, legs crossed, humming a tune, already looking forward to meeting the beauties surrounding Rong Xi.
Later that evening, Father Rong and Mother Rong returned home, and the family finally sat down together for dinner.
Qin Yuzhen and Rong Xi sat side by side, while Father Rong and Mother Rong sat across from them.
Father Rong had originally planned to hire a etiquette teacher for Qin Yuzhen to correct the bad habits she’d developed in the village. But to his surprise, Qin Yuzhen’s posture, from the way she walked to the way she ate, needed no correction whatsoever.
If Qin Yuzhen was from the village, then the other young ladies must have been from the backwoods.
“Your school arrangements are settled. You’ll be in the same class as Xixi, and since both of you are studying science, it works out perfectly.”
“Good,” Qin Yuzhen nodded.
“Xixi, please look after Zhenzhen. She’s new here and doesn’t know anyone.”
“Okay,” Rong Xi nodded as well, though she didn’t see any need for looking after Qin Yuzhen.
“The exams here might be a bit harder than what you’re used to. Xixi has always been in the top three of her grade, so feel free to ask her if you need help,” Father Rong added. “We’ll also arrange a tutor for you later.”
Qin Yuzhen curled her lips into a modest smile. “Thank you. I hope my sister won’t mind my questions.”
Rong Xi: That’s not what you said before.
The meal passed in relative silence. After discussing school, the family ran out of conversation topics.
After finishing his meal, Father Rong went straight to his study.
“Zhenzhen, I’ll take you shopping on Saturday to buy you some things you like,” Mother Rong said.
“Sounds good,” Qin Yuzhen nodded, offering a sweet, obedient smile.
Mother Rong nodded approvingly, finding Qin Yuzhen’s current demeanor far more pleasing than when she first returned home. After offering a few more words of advice, she excused herself from the dining table.
“Host, Mother Rong doesn’t seem to like Rong Xi very much, does she?”
“You’re overthinking it,” Qin Yuzhen replied. “She’ll probably call Rong Xi over for a chat tonight. This is just a show of politeness to avoid upsetting me. You have the script, right?”
“I haven’t read it. You never follow it anyway,” the System paused. “Fine, I’ll read it now.”
“You gave me the ‘Salted Fish’ codename because you’re the real slacker, too lazy to even read a file,” Qin Yuzhen scoffed.
The System fell silent.
Back in her room, Qin Yuzhen gathered her school supplies and tossed them onto the sofa.
Thinking about the impending school day, she couldn’t help but sigh. Early mornings were truly the bane of her existence.
Sensing Qin Yuzhen’s growing irritability, the System further diminished its presence.
At six in the morning, Qin Yuzhen was woken by knocking at the door.
She took a deep breath, sat up, and replied curtly, “I hear you,” while suppressing her anger.
Host, calm down. You used to wake up even earlier back at the village.
“Because that bed was uncomfortable and I couldn’t sleep, so I didn’t even notice waking up,” Qin Yuzhen grumbled, her face darkening as she got dressed and washed up. By the time she went downstairs, her expression had softened slightly, but her displeasure was still palpable.
Rong Xi timidly greeted her, “Good morning.”
Qin Yuzhen shot her a sidelong glance and muttered a curt reply.
After a moment, Rong Xi couldn’t resist asking, “Did you not sleep well?”
“I’m not fully awake yet.” Qin Yuzhen glanced at Rong Xi and smiled. “You’re brave enough to approach me now? Not scared anymore?”
“Who’s scared of you…” Rong Xi pressed her lips together. “I was just asking.”
“Oh.” Qin Yuzhen took a sip of her milk.
The Rong family’s breakfasts were varied, with a different menu each day.
By the time Qin Yuzhen finished eating, Rong Xi hadn’t touched her milk.
“Are you not going to school?” Qin Yuzhen asked, wiping her mouth.
Rong Xi glanced at Qin Yuzhen, then at the milk in front of her. She picked up the cup, closed her eyes, frowned, and gulped it down in one go. After finishing, she shivered twice and let out a long sigh.
“Pfft.”
Qin Yuzhen couldn’t help but chuckle.
Rong Xi looked over, mumbling sheepishly, “Milk is really disgusting.”
“Then don’t drink it,” Qin Yuzhen said, standing up and grabbing her backpack before heading out the door.
Rong Xi immediately followed. “How can I not? They prepared it.”
“Just tell them you don’t want it.”
“I feel like that wouldn’t be right.”
“Then keep drinking it.” Qin Yuzhen got into the car.
Rong Xi sat down beside her, clutching her backpack. This time, she didn’t deliberately put distance between them; she simply couldn’t stand listening to Qin Yuzhen’s sarcastic tone any longer.
The two attended a prestigious private school in City A, considered one of the top high schools in the city.
The school offered three types of classes: International Class, Honors Class, and Regular Class.
The International Class prepared students for studying abroad, while the Honors and Regular Classes were for students planning to take the national college entrance exam within the country.
As the car pulled up to the school gate, Qin Yuzhen glanced out the window. The overall architectural style was European-inspired, with the main buildings a shade of red she couldn’t quite name.
True to form, the female lead commanded attention. After Rong Xi stepped out of the car, nearly ninety percent of the surrounding people turned to look at her. Naturally, many also glanced at Qin Yuzhen. The main reason for this was that she wasn’t wearing the school uniform. Every student’s uniform at this school was custom-made, and Qin Yuzhen wouldn’t be able to wear hers for a while yet. Today, she had simply dressed in casual clothes.
Walking beside Qin Yuzhen, Rong Xi explained that all the formalities had been completed, and all that remained was to meet with their homeroom teacher.
“I’ll take you to the homeroom teacher’s office,” Rong Xi said, then lowered her voice to explain, “These are all the academic buildings. The domed building behind them is the library, and the cafeteria is even further back. Just follow me during lunchtime, and I’ll show you where to go.”
“The sports field is over there, and there’s also a sports hall where you can swim…”
Qin Yuzhen noticed that Rong Xi was talking much more than she usually did at home, as if she had entered her own territory. Along the way, many people greeted her, and some even came over specifically to say hello. It was clear she was very popular.
The teachers’ offices were right next to the classrooms. After escorting Qin Yuzhen there, Rong Xi dashed off.
Qin Yuzhen knocked on the door and entered.
The homeroom teacher looked up at the knock, pushing up her glasses. “Oh, you must be Qin Yuzhen, right?”
“Hello,” Qin Yuzhen replied.
“My surname is Wang. The students in class call me Old Wang, so you can do the same.” Old Wang covered his mouth and coughed a few times. “I looked at your previous school records, and your grades weren’t particularly strong. The Honors Class moves at a fast pace. I’m not sure if you’ll be able to keep up.”
“Teacher, if I can’t keep up, I’ll switch back to the regular class myself. Don’t worry,” Qin Yuzhen said with a smile.
“Good. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.” Old Wang offered a few more words of advice, then glanced at Qin Yuzhen. To be honest, when he first saw her academic record, he hadn’t wanted her in the class. But now that he’d met her in person, he found her to be quite a sweet and well-behaved child, which softened his impression slightly. “Alright, let’s go. I’ll take you to the class. Try to get along well with your classmates.”
“Okay, thank you, Teacher.”
Qin Yuzhen followed Old Wang, her lips curving slightly as she spotted the sign for Senior Year Class 1 in the distance.
The class was already full and noisy. When Old Wang entered, there was a brief moment of silence before the chatter resumed, all eyes turning to Qin Yuzhen.
“That’s the girl who was with Xixi this morning.”
“She’s pretty cute.”
“How did she get transferred into the Honors Class? That’s so unfair!”
******
The classroom buzzed with chatter as Qin Yuzhen stood by the podium, her smile unwavering.
Rong Xi, seated in the second row, listened to the surrounding whispers with a troubled expression. She glanced at Qin Yuzhen with concern.
“Alright, settle down,” Old Wang said, rapping the table for attention. He scanned the classroom before continuing, “This is our new classmate, Qin Yuzhen. Let’s all make her feel welcome. For now, you can sit at the back there. We’ll be reshuffling seats in a few days anyway.”
Qin Yuzhen nodded. “Okay.”
She liked that seat—it was perfect for daydreaming and focusing on her own thoughts. As she approached her desk, she found her desk partner already curled up in the corner, fast asleep. It was strange to find someone like that in an Honors Class.
Qin Yuzhen pulled out her chair and sat down.
Host, the male lead is in the International Class, in the building next door.
“Oh.” Qin Yuzhen stuffed her backpack into the desk drawer. “Has he interacted with Rong Xi yet?”
They’re still at the acquaintance stage. Not very familiar yet.
