I'm Not Playing This Vicious Female Supporting Character Anymore! - Chapter 4
Qin Yuzhen and Rong Yao had already completed an activity at the kindergarten when Rong Xi hurried over, clearly flustered and with sweat on the tip of her nose.
“Here, wipe that off,” Qin Yuzhen said, handing her a tissue.
Rong Xi murmured a quiet “Thank you” before sitting down on the small stool beside Rong Yao.
“She didn’t bully you, did she?” Rong Xi whispered, thinking she was being discreet.
Qin Yuzhen glanced at her and crossed her legs with a confident air.
“No, I bullied her,” Rong Yao replied with a shake of his head, looking up at Qin Yuzhen with obvious admiration. “Sis is super awesome! In the obstacle race just now! We came in first! The second-place team couldn’t even catch up!”
He held up the little red flower stuck to his hand to show Rong Xi.
Qin Yuzhen snorted softly, tilting her chin slightly. “You should know who you’re dealing with.”
Rong Xi glanced at Qin Yuzhen again, unsure of what to say.
The next parent-child activity was a race to see who could tidy their desk the fastest. Rong Yao worked quickly, clearly desperate for another red flower, and indeed won first place.
“It doesn’t seem like they need me,” Rong Xi said.
“I just asked if you wanted to come, not that you had to come,” Qin Yuzhen replied.
Rong Xi: …
“Besides, who said they don’t need you?” Qin Yuzhen handed Rong Xi the pamphlet in her hand. “Three-legged race and tug-of-war.”
“Tug-of-war?” Rong Xi thought she must have misheard.
“Yeah, I just signed you up.”
Rong Xi looked at her slender arms and legs, pursed her lips. “I’m not very strong.”
“At least you’re stronger than a kid.”
Rong Xi: …
Later, Rong Xi realized the real challenge wasn’t the tug-of-war, but the three-legged race.
Rong Yao carefully stuck the small red flower he’d won onto his hand, cherishing it.
“Let’s put him in the middle,” Rong Xi suggested.
“No problem.” Qin Yuzhen waved her hand dismissively, then crouched down to tie the ropes around Rong Yao and Rong Xi’s legs.
“Let’s be steady. We don’t want to fall.”
“Why is your rope tied so loosely?”
“When the time comes, we’ll call out the steps: ‘One, left foot; two, right foot.’ Should we try it now?”
“No, that’s too slow,” Qin Yuzhen interrupted, watching Rong Xi’s mouth chatter nonstop.
Rong Xi tilted her head, looking at Qin Yuzhen.
“How much do you weigh?” Qin Yuzhen asked.
Rong Xi blinked, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Why do you need to know?”
“It can’t be two hundred pounds, right?” Qin Yuzhen glanced at Rong Xi.
Rong Xi: …
“Ninety pounds!” Rong Xi bit her lip. “How could I possibly weigh two hundred pounds?”
The referee signaled for everyone to get ready. The competitors lined up behind the starting line, bracing themselves. Rong Xi tried to take Qin Yuzhen’s hand, but the latter simply wrapped her arm around Rong Xi’s waist.
Rong Xi froze, still processing the gesture, when the referee’s whistle pierced the air.
In the next instant, Rong Xi felt her feet leave the ground as she was swept forward by Qin Yuzhen’s momentum.
She heard Rong Yao’s shrill cry.
Suddenly, she understood how pairs in the parent-child relay race managed to complete the course.
The three-legged race wasn’t long—only fifteen meters—and Rong Xi and Rong Yao were practically dragged across the finish line by Qin Yuzhen.
The other teams lagged behind.
Once they reached the end, Qin Yuzhen immediately untied the rope from her leg, noticing Rong Xi’s astonished expression beside her. “What is it?”
“You’re so strong!”
“Yes, I am.”
“Host, why are you so fiercely competitive? It’s just a kindergarten activity,” the System said, exasperated. “Did you notice the teacher’s look? And the other parents’ expressions?”
“So what? Does this Princess need to care about what others think?”
Rong Yao went to the teacher to claim his small red flower. Too embarrassed to boast about it openly, he subtly rolled up his sleeve, revealing the flower pinned to the back of his hand so everyone could see.
“This kid’s pretty interesting,” the System remarked.
“Indeed,” the System agreed. “Just like you.”
After a brief rest, Rong Xi was called over for the tug-of-war, her expression indifferent, as if she were facing life or death.
The teacher lined up the teams, placing Rong Xi in the middle.
Qin Yuzhen watched Rong Xi take a deep breath. At the whistle, she immediately began pulling on the rope with all her might, clearly giving her all in the tug-of-war.
“Wouldn’t this be a good time to take a photo?” Qin Yuzhen remarked.
The System observed Rong Xi’s flushed face, contorted as if she were wearing a mask of agony, and fell silent.
Qin Yuzhen pulled out her phone and snapped a picture of Rong Xi. No matter how she looked at it, she was satisfied—the composition and lighting were perfect, capturing every detail of Rong Xi’s face.
Though they won the tug-of-war, Rong Xi was utterly exhausted.
When Rong Xi saw the photo on Qin Yuzhen’s phone later, she nearly fainted again—her face occupied nine-tenths of the screen.
“Sister…”
“Nice, isn’t it?” Qin Yuzhen raised an eyebrow.
“Sister! Delete it!” Rong Xi tugged at Qin Yuzhen’s sleeve.
“Doesn’t it look good?”
Rong Xi: …
“Host, don’t you have any sense of self-awareness?” the System grumbled irritably.
Ignoring it, Qin Yuzhen looked at Rong Xi, lowered her head, and sighed. “Ah, this is the first photo we took together at an event. Are you really going to delete it? I suppose you think there’s no need to keep a memento.”
Rong Xi pursed her lips. “We can take another photo. This one only has me, not you…”
“I was just kindly taking a picture for my younger sister,” Qin Yuzhen said, pulling out her phone and deleting the photo. “Fine, if you really don’t like it, I’ll delete it. It’s no big deal.”
Seeing Qin Yuzhen’s sorrowful expression, Rong Xi felt a twinge of guilt.
“Let’s take a new photo together,” Rong Xi suggested. “I’d like to take a picture with my older sister too…”
“Alright.”
Qin Yuzhen took out her phone. Rong Xi had wanted to offer to take the photo herself, but now she realized Qin Yuzhen’s self-portrait skills were actually quite good. The ugly photo earlier had been deliberate!
Rong Xi glanced sideways at Qin Yuzhen, her eyes carrying a hint of indignation.
“Look at the camera and smile,” Qin Yuzhen instructed. “This time, I won’t delete it.”
Rong Xi took a deep breath. So she really had done it on purpose, not even bothering to pretend! She forced a brilliant smile into the camera.
Just as Qin Yuzhen pressed the shutter button, Rong Yao suddenly jumped into the frame, startling Rong Xi.
In the photo, Qin Yuzhen smiled serenely, Rong Yao grinned widely, showing all eight of his teeth, and Rong Xi wore her signature pained expression.
“Rong Yao!” Rong Xi exclaimed, glaring at her cousin. She didn’t dare glare at Qin Yuzhen, but Rong Yao was fair game.
“So beautiful! I’m saving this. I’ll get it printed tomorrow and hang it in my room,” Qin Yuzhen said contentedly, patting Rong Yao’s head and giving him an approving look.
“Sis!” Rong Xi turned to Qin Yuzhen, looking pitiful. “Sis…”
Qin Yuzhen put away her phone, pretending not to hear. She patted Rong Yao’s shoulder. “Alright, the event will be over soon. Enjoy your meal. Rong Xi and I will head out now.”
“Okay!” Rong Yao nodded.
The two left the kindergarten. Rong Xi trailed behind Qin Yuzhen, occasionally glancing at her with an unspoken plea in her eyes.
“Sis, about that photo…”
“It’s really beautiful.”
“Could you… not get it printed?” Rong Xi lowered her request.
Qin Yuzhen looked down at Rong Xi. “I’ll think about it. What’s something nice you want to say?”
Rong Xi paused, her ears flushing slightly as if she’d had a sudden thought. She pursed her lips and glanced at Qin Yuzhen. “Sis, you’re so pretty and kind-hearted. I know you’d never let that photo spread, right?”
“We’ll see,” Qin Yuzhen chuckled softly, quickly getting into her car.
Rong Xi pouted. She was already regretting coming. Thinking about it now, Qin Yuzhen couldn’t really do anything to Rong Yao anyway—just bully him a little.
“Are you still going to school this afternoon?” Qin Yuzhen asked.
“No,” Rong Xi replied, remaining seated and leaning against the car door, keeping a wide distance from Qin Yuzhen.
“Xixi, do you hate me?” Qin Yuzhen asked innocently, her voice soft and vulnerable. “Why are you sitting so far away?”
Rong Xi paused for two seconds, then silently shifted slightly closer, though the distance remained considerable. Qin Yuzhen leaned in herself.
The System detected a profound sense of despair on Rong Xi’s face.
“Host, aren’t you afraid this girl might turn villainous someday?”
“Tsk, could she possibly be worse than me?” Qin Yuzhen raised an eyebrow.
“Host.”
“Hmm?”
“You have a natural talent for being a vicious female supporting character. You’re acting completely in character.”
“You must be dreaming. I’m the female lead, not some villainess,” Qin Yuzhen scoffed softly, shifting her leg. Rong Xi beside her flinched in fright, looking up at Qin Yuzhen in helpless confusion.
The air inside the car seemed to freeze.
“Xixi, I don’t eat people,” Qin Yuzhen said, leaning closer and offering a gentle smile.
“Mm-hmm,” Rong Xi nodded, glancing out the window. She quickly calculated how much longer until they reached home, and when she saw the 90-second countdown on the red light ahead, her heart sank.
“Xixi, could you show me around the school this afternoon?” Qin Yuzhen asked, blinking her eyes.
Rong Xi nodded. “Sure.”
“Thank you so much, Xixi.”
The driver, who was driving ahead, smiled. “You two have such a close bond. CEO Rong would be thrilled to know this.”
Rong Xi: …
“Yes, I absolutely adore Xixi. She’s beautiful and has such a sweet temperament. I was so lost when I first came to the city, and I didn’t know anything. Thank goodness Xixi didn’t mind me,” Qin Yuzhen said, wrapping her arm around Rong Xi’s.
Rong Xi stared at Qin Yuzhen, her gaze somewhat unfocused.
How can a person split themselves apart like this? And act so convincingly?
“It’s fine. If you have any questions, Sister, just ask me,” Rong Xi said with another warm smile.
“You’re so kind, Xixi,” Qin Yuzhen said with a coquettish giggle.
System: Host, that’s the vibe.
