I'm Not Playing This Vicious Female Supporting Character Anymore! - Chapter 3
Rong Xi’s skin was so delicate that Qin Yuzhen barely had to apply any force to leave a red mark on her cheek.
“Get out. I’m going to rest.”
“Okay, alright.” Rong Xi nodded. As soon as she stepped out, Qin Yuzhen slammed the door shut and locked it.
Rong Xi pursed her lips and returned to her room, pulling out a diary from a drawer.
*****
October 3rd, Wednesday, Sunny
The true heiress of the Rong family returned today. She’s nothing like I imagined. She carries herself like a natural-born aristocrat—her posture, her tone of voice. They all scream pride and confidence.
Her tongue is sharp, and she constantly twists my words. But I really mean no harm! I know my place. I’m painfully aware of how awkward my position is in this family right now. If she truly dislikes me, I’ll move out.
Still, she’s strikingly beautiful, with flawless skin. I wonder how she maintains it. Intriguing.
Rong Xi stroked her chin, closed the diary, and stretched lazily before tucking it back into the drawer.
Qin Yuzhen continued pacing her room. Her phone and bank card lay on the bedside table. She glanced at them, put away the card, and turned on her phone to save her adoptive parents’ numbers.
“Host, do you want to call them?”
“Yes,” Qin Yuzhen nodded. It was both right and necessary to call.
Just as she dialed, someone answered.
“Mom,” Qin Yuzhen said.
“Zhenzhen!” The woman on the other end sobbed, then seemed to cover her mouth, struggling to suppress her sobs. “Are they treating you well? How’s it going over there?”
“It’s fine.”
“Will they be upset that you’re contacting us?”
Qin Yuzhen frowned slightly. “What does our contact have to do with them?”
“Zhenzhen, you should really stop calling us,” Mother Qin’s voice hitched. “If others find out you used to live in a place like ours, they’ll look down on you…”
Qin Yuzhen was silent for two seconds. “They won’t.”
Mother Qin and Father Qin chattered endlessly for half an hour before hanging up, as if they wanted to say everything they’d ever wanted to say in one call.
“Host, the Rong family likely told them not to contact you.”
“Hmm.” Qin Yuzhen took her nightgown and went into the bathroom.
“Host, don’t be upset.”
“Why would I be upset?”
The System fell silent.
After her bath, Qin Yuzhen went straight to bed. She hadn’t been sleeping well lately; the bed in this place was simply too uncomfortable.
She slept until 8 p.m.
When Qin Yuzhen went downstairs, she saw Rong Xi sitting alone on the sofa.
“You’re awake.”
“Mm-hmm.” Qin Yuzhen nodded, flicking her hair aside.
“Let’s eat. Mom went out, and Dad hasn’t returned yet. It’s just the two of us tonight,” Rong Xi said, glancing at Qin Yuzhen as if checking for signs of displeasure.
But Qin Yuzhen’s expression remained neutral.
“Her own daughter returns, and she won’t even eat a single meal with her? Isn’t that a bit much?” the System grumbled. “No wonder the original host went mad.”
Qin Yuzhen and Rong Xi sat down at the dining table.
“You don’t have to wait for me to eat,” Qin Yuzhen said, leaning back in her chair and looking at Rong Xi.
“I don’t want to eat alone,” Rong Xi murmured softly.
The servants brought out the dishes one by one. Qin Yuzhen glanced at the table, noting the variety of cuisines represented.
“I wasn’t sure about your taste, so I had them prepare a variety of dishes. If you find something you like, just let the kitchen know and they’ll make it for you,” Rong Xi said, glancing at Qin Yuzhen and then at the others gathered around the table. “You can all go ahead and leave. My sister and I will be fine here.”
Qin Yuzhen lifted her head at the word “sister.” It felt surprisingly natural to hear it now.
After the others left, Qin Yuzhen took a bite of the food and casually remarked, “I like Xiang Yin Ya. I’d like it even more if my younger sister made it herself.”
“Host! You really are possessed by a venomous woman!”
Rong Xi stared at Qin Yuzhen in shock. She knew what Xiang Yin Ya was—a laborious dish that involved stuffing meat into bean sprouts.
“I’m joking,” Qin Yuzhen said, glancing at Rong Xi.
Rong Xi: …
“If you really like it, I could try making it.”
“No need.” Qin Yuzhen took a sip of soup. “Just don’t talk. Let’s eat.”
Rong Xi looked at Qin Yuzhen again. Her table manners were impeccable, every movement graceful and refined—nothing about her suggested she could have been raised in an ordinary family.
She had originally planned to talk with Qin Yuzhen later that evening, hoping to bridge the gap between them. Now, she had completely abandoned the idea.
After dinner, the two parted ways and returned to their respective rooms.
The next day, when Qin Yuzhen went out, she discovered that Rong Xi, who was supposed to be on a two-day break according to the script, had gone to school instead. As for Father and Mother Rong, they hadn’t returned home the previous night.
The house became even quieter.
“Host, look what you did—you scared the poor girl away,” the System grumbled.
“I didn’t do anything,” Qin Yuzhen replied, sitting on the garden swing with her legs crossed.
“Are you that so-called distant relative?”
Qin Yuzhen looked up at the child standing about a meter away, raising an eyebrow. “Who are you?”
The child strode toward Qin Yuzhen, clearly trying to mimic the confident gait of a grown-up, but only managing about thirty percent of the effect, making the whole scene rather comical.
“My name is Rong Yao!” Rong Yao lifted his chin slightly, glancing at Qin Yuzhen. “They say you’re my uncle’s illegitimate daughter.”
“Do you even know what ‘illegitimate daughter’ means?”
“Of course I do! It’s a child born to a man and a woman who aren’t married.”
“Well, I’m not that.”
Rong Yao narrowed his eyes. “I don’t care who you think you are! I’m telling you, you’re not allowed to bully Sister Xixi!”
Qin Yuzhen chuckled softly. “Oh? And what if I do bully her?”
“I’ll hit you!”
“Hit me?” Qin Yuzhen stood up, grabbed Rong Yao by the collar, and yanked him to his feet. “Hm? What did you say? Say it again.”
Rong Yao froze, his eyes wide as he swayed mid-air. He stared at Qin Yuzhen’s terrifying face, and in the next instant, let out a loud wail.
System: ……
“If you keep crying, I’ll throw you out,” Qin Yuzhen threatened in a low voice.
Rong Yao took a deep breath and forced back the tears. He looked at Qin Yuzhen, his eyes brimming with tears and his face flushed crimson, looking utterly pitiful.
Qin Yuzhen set him down and stepped back, looking down at him. “I’m not bullying her, and I’m not an illegitimate child. Got it?”
Rong Yao nodded.
Qin Yuzhen had expected the boy to be braver. Who knew he’d be such a coward?
“Who did you come with today?”
“I came here by myself,” Rong Yao said, standing ramrod straight before Qin Yuzhen, his head bowed. “I live in that house over there.”
Qin Yuzhen nodded. “When Rong Xi gets back today, I’ll tell her you bullied me.”
“You’re lying! You’re the one who bullied me!” Rong Yao shouted, his voice instantly rising.
“Did I hit you?”
Rong Yao opened his mouth. “No…” She had grabbed him, but she hadn’t actually hit him.
“Then who threatened to hit me? Who was the one making threats?”
“I…”
“So, who’s bullying who?” Qin Yuzhen scoffed coldly.
Rong Yao frowned, remaining silent. He sensed something was off, but he couldn’t put his finger on what.
“Host, why are you teasing even a little kid?”
“Boredom. Rong Xi isn’t here.” Qin Yuzhen yawned. “How old are you?”
“Five.”
“Don’t you go to school?” Qin Yuzhen stared at Rong Yao, then clapped her hands twice. “You’re skipping class! Such bad behavior at such a young age.”
“I’m not the one who’s bad,” Rong Yao insisted, pursing his lips.
“Then why aren’t you in school?”
“You weren’t in school either!” Rong Yao protested.
“I’m going tomorrow. I still need to finalize the paperwork today.”
Rong Yao glanced at Qin Yuzhen. “I bet no school wants you.”
The System chuckled inwardly. This kid has potential.
“Regardless of whether any school wants me, you’re skipping class. You’re the one who’s bad,” Qin Yuzhen said, resuming her seat on the swing.
Rong Yao pressed his lips together, wanting to climb onto the swing himself. But Qin Yuzhen casually placed her leg on the swing, blocking his way. Feeling even more wronged, he wanted to cry again, but this time he held back. “Today’s a parent-teacher meeting. My parents aren’t going, so I didn’t have to either. I’m not skipping class! Besides, the kindergarten doesn’t even open until 9 a.m.!”
“How pitiful,” Qin Yuzhen remarked.
Rong Yao looked up at her, his eyes filled with accusation.
“Say something nice, and I’ll take you with me.”
Rong Yao remained silent, staring at Qin Yuzhen with blatant distrust.
“I’m pretty amazing, you know.”
Rong Yao glanced at Qin Yuzhen, a hint of awkwardness in his voice. “So, what kind of nice things do you want to hear?”
He paused, then emphasized, “Listen, don’t get too full of yourself. If my parents weren’t so busy, I wouldn’t even be asking you to come.”
“That’s not very nice. Forget it, I’m going back to sleep. Bye.” Qin Yuzhen stood up and turned to leave.
Rong Yao immediately chased after her, grabbed her arm, and fell to the ground with a thud. “You’re so beautiful! You’re the most beautiful person in the world!”
Qin Yuzhen looked down at him, then pulled out her phone. “Come on, say it again.”
Rong Yao stared wide-eyed. “Why are you filming this?”
“Why not? Now, again!”
He bit his lip, putting on a resigned expression. “You’re so beautiful! You’re the most beautiful person in the world.” A man must know when to yield.
“Perfect.” Qin Yuzhen smiled, saved the video, and said, “Let’s go.”
Rong Yao stood up, dusted himself off, and followed Qin Yuzhen, who walked so quickly he had to jog to keep up.
Qin Yuzhen lowered her head and sent a message to Rong Xi:
Qin Yuzhen: Sister, Rong Yao wants me to take him to kindergarten. Wanna join?
She also sent the video she’d just recorded.
Rong Xi: ……
Having escaped the devil’s clutches herself, she hadn’t expected her cousin to fall right into the trap. After watching the video several times, she finally got up to ask the teacher for leave and go home.
Seeing the message “I’m coming” from Rong Xi, Qin Yuzhen curled her lips into a smirk.
“See? The female lead’s back, just like that.”
