I'm Not Playing This Vicious Female Supporting Character Anymore! - Chapter 23
Rong Xi glanced at Qin Yuzhen. “I was just thinking…”
“No way! You’re giving up before the exam even starts?” Qin Yuzhen said, her sarcastic tone and feigned shock making Rong Xi want to punch her.
Rong Xi: …
“How could you? Do you think I’m that kind of person?” Rong Xi retorted, though she had indeed been considering giving up. But now that Qin Yuzhen had said it, how could she possibly voice her original thoughts?
“Goodness, you scared me! I thought my little sister was someone who couldn’t handle losing,” Qin Yuzhen said.
“How do you know I’ll be the one to lose?”
Qin Yuzhen blinked. “Well, good luck. With a bit more effort, you never know.”
Liang Xuzhou leaned against the wall, listening to their conversation and watching Rong Xi thoughtfully.
“Why are you staring at me?”
“I thought you’d beat her up. Who knew you’d actually hold back?” Liang Xuzhou said.
“No fighting in school,” Rong Xi said seriously.
Qin Yuzhen scoffed. “Fighting? You and me?”
Rong Xi turned and walked away, afraid she wouldn’t be able to control herself.
“Zhenzhen.” Gu Si entered through the back door, carrying a bag. “I made you some sweets.”
Qin Yuzhen took the bag. “Thank you, but we don’t get out of school until 10 p.m. Did you stay up all night?”
“No, I just woke up a little earlier. It was quite tough, so you have to eat them all,” Gu Si said, covering her mouth with a yawn and looking a bit embarrassed.
“Don’t worry, I’ll savor every bite. But please, don’t make special trips like this again. It’s not good to fall asleep in class,” Qin Yuzhen said, taking out the contents of the bag.
Inside were pudding, caramel candy, chocolate, and a piece of mousse cake.
Qin Yuzhen ate a piece of chocolate, her face lighting up with delight. “This is so delicious! You’re amazing!”
“I’m glad,” Gu Si said. “I told you my skills are top-notch. I can make lots of other desserts too. Next time, when I have time, I’ll make you more.”
“That’s such a waste of time.”
“I can make them on Saturdays and Sundays, just as a way to relax. Don’t worry, if you like them, I’ll be happy.” Gu Si glanced at her watch. “Make sure you eat them all. I have to go now, class is starting.”
“Alright, bye,” Qin Yuzhen said with a smile, waving her hand.
Beside her, Liang Xuzhou shot her a look of disdain. After Qin Yuzhen put away her things, she looked up and noticed Rong Xi watching her. With a slight huff, she turned her head away.
“It’s so bad to sleep in class,” Liang Xuzhou said in a high-pitched voice. “Does she know you sleep in class every day?”
“I suddenly miss the days when you slept all day—quiet, reserved, and not annoying anyone,” Qin Yuzhen retorted.
“Who’s fault is it that I can’t sleep now?”
“Of course it’s your own fault,” Qin Yuzhen said, looking at Liang Xuzhou in mock shock. “Unless you’re blaming me?”
Liang Xuzhou slumped over on the desk, cursing his own lack of memory. He resolved to cut down on his conversations with Qin Yuzhen; after the monthly exam, they’d be switching seats anyway.
The thought of being rid of Qin Yuzhen made him want to set off a sixty-six-cracker firecracker right then and there to celebrate.
In high school, monthly exams typically required students to be assigned to different test centers with randomly assigned seats. Qin Yuzhen had received her test center and seat number the day before, which was quite convenient—she would be taking the exam in her own classroom.
“Where are you taking the exam?” Pei Jingyue turned to glance at the small slip of paper in Qin Yuzhen’s hand. “I’m jealous. I actually have to go all the way to the fifth floor.”
“My luck has never been too bad,” Qin Yuzhen said.
Rong Xi also walked over, and the envy in his eyes was unmistakable as he saw Qin Yuzhen’s slip. “I have to take the exam in the International Class’s classroom. It’s so annoying.”
Qin Yuzhen could only marvel at the plot’s precision. If everything went as expected, Rong Xi would be sitting in the Male Protagonist’s seat during the exam.
“A defeat in the exam begins with the seat assignment,” Qin Yuzhen remarked.
Rong Xi narrowed his eyes. “I’ve prepared thoroughly this time. Nothing you say will rattle me.”
“Oh, really? Then why are you shaking?”
“My trembling isn’t fear—it’s excitement at witnessing your impending defeat!” Rong Xi declared, lifting his chin before turning and walking away.
Qin Yuzhen chuckled.
“By your logic, doesn’t that mean I’ll get first place this time?” Liang Xuzhou, sitting next to her, handed over his own slip. He would be taking the exam in his usual seat.
This kind of luck… Qin Yuzhen could only call it extraordinary.
“Your exam failure starts with your ugly handwriting,” Qin Yuzhen said, glancing at Liang Xuzhou. “And aren’t you always the fourth from the bottom?”
“The leader has to carry the whole class on their back,” Liang Xuzhou replied.
In truth, Liang Xuzhou’s grades weren’t bad. After all, this was an honors class, and his ranking remained in the top tier of the entire grade.
“Your face has grown quite thick,” Qin Yuzhen remarked.
Qin Yuzhen disliked exams, but the bet with Rong Xi added a bit of fun to this one.
Every exam for the senior class followed the standards of the college entrance exam: two proctors, signal jammers, metal detectors at the door, and scratch paper provided by the school. The only difference was that they didn’t have to remove the books from their desks, and of course, the desks had to be flipped over.
“System, what kind of plot can you possibly weave with this? If the two of them walk faster, they might not even bump into each other,” Qin Yuzhen said.
“The plot will definitely make them collide. This is about the male and female protagonists, not you. Don’t worry about it,” the System replied.
Qin Yuzhen smirked. “From what I’ve seen, he won’t be the male protagonist for much longer.”
System: …
Qin Yuzhen arrived with only a pencil case. Her seat, a feng shui masterpiece, faced the podium directly, with the teacher seated right in front of her. She rested her chin in her hand, casually crossing her legs.
“Host, you look more like an invigilator than the one sitting up front,” the System remarked.
“There are plenty of people crossing their legs. Why single me out?” Qin Yuzhen retorted.
“Perhaps your aura is… uniquely…” The System struggled to find the right word.
The first subject was Chinese. Qin Yuzhen’s writing appeared unhurried, yet she was actually working at a brisk pace. The System watched curiously, wondering how she managed to avoid any spelling or writing errors.
The invigilator stood nearby, observing Qin Yuzhen as she took the exam.
Qin Yuzhen was truly bored. She had used one handwriting style for the multiple-choice questions and switched to another for the essay. The essay prompt asked for a discussion on cultural inheritance. After some thought, she ultimately wrote her essay in classical Chinese.
System: …
Teacher nearby: ???
When it was time to collect the papers, the teacher gave Qin Yuzhen a look of astonishment.
Unfazed by the attention, Qin Yuzhen calmly gathered her belongings and returned to her seat.
“Why was that teacher looking at you like you were a monkey?” Liang Xuzhou asked.
“Hmph, if your eyesight is bad, get it checked. That was clearly a look of astonishment,” Qin Yuzhen retorted.
As classmates who took the exam in other classrooms returned, the conversation shifted.
“Rong Xi just fell down the stairs.”
“Huh?”
“Apparently, someone pushed her.”
“She’s already been taken to the infirmary.”
“She was bleeding a lot. It was terrifying.”
“Who pushed her?”
“It was too crowded. No one saw.”
“I don’t get why anyone would push her.”
Qin Yuzhen: …
Is the plot this rigid? Qin Yuzhen frowned, didn’t dwell on it, and quickly gathered her things before leaving the classroom. The math teacher walked in just as Qin Yuzhen was making her dramatic exit.
“Host, what are you doing?” the System asked.
“My little sister is hurt. How could I not come check on her?” Qin Yuzhen hurried forward.
“This is clearly meant to give the male and female leads alone time together. Why are you interfering?” the System sighed in exasperation. “Host, why do you always have to meddle?”
Qin Yuzhen ignored it. As she opened the infirmary door, she heard Rong Xi’s stifled cries. She immediately rushed over and examined the wound—a deep gash on her leg. Her rolled-up pants were soaked with blood, and her knee was scraped raw.
The System sensed Qin Yuzhen’s mood darken.
“Why are you here?” Rong Xi asked, her pale face betraying her trembling voice. “Aren’t you supposed to be in class?”
Qin Yuzhen ignored her and glanced at Ye Yunshen, who was sitting nearby. “Thank you. You can go now. I’ll stay here.”
Ye Yunshen looked deeply at Qin Yuzhen. “Since I brought her here, I naturally have to take responsibility.”
“The family has already arrived,” Qin Yuzhen said.
Ye Yunshen remained motionless as Rong Xi whimpered in pain again.
“We should go to the hospital,” Qin Yuzhen suggested.
“Yes, she needs to go to the hospital for a tetanus shot. I’m just doing some basic first aid here,” the school nurse said. These are all young masters and misses; it’s best to get them to the hospital as soon as possible.
“I don’t think there’s any need for that,” Rong Xi said.
“With such a long wound and so much blood loss, you’re joking if you think we shouldn’t go to the hospital,” Qin Yuzhen said, her expression darkening.
“But… I still want to take the exam,” Rong Xi said, biting her lip. Qin Yuzhen’s stern demeanor frightened her.
“It’s only just past nine. The exam is at two in the afternoon—there’s plenty of time. I’ve already called for the driver,” Qin Yuzhen said.
“Why are you being so harsh? She’s already in pain,” Ye Yunshen said, slightly displeased.
“She’s my sister. Who are you to her?” Qin Yuzhen shot him a glare. Already in a bad mood, being contradicted made her even more irritable.
Qin Yuzhen’s phone vibrated—her driver had arrived outside the Health Center Building.
Ye Yunshen stood up, intending to carry Rong Xi on his back. However, Qin Yuzhen moved faster, bending down and lifting Rong Xi into her arms.
Rong Xi paused momentarily before instinctively leaning against Qin Yuzhen and wrapping her arms around the woman’s neck.
“The little girl is surprisingly strong,” the doctor in the infirmary remarked.
“Thank you,” Qin Yuzhen said with a smile, then swiftly left the infirmary with Rong Xi in her arms.
Rong Xi’s leg throbbed with pain, almost numb. She glanced up at Qin Yuzhen, sensing the woman’s anger, though she couldn’t understand why. Qin Yuzhen’s grip was steady, without any jolts, which unexpectedly made Rong Xi feel somewhat comforted.
As they got into the car, Ye Yunshen forced his way in and took the passenger seat. Since he was a member of the Ye Family, the driver couldn’t kick him out.
“Actually, I don’t think it’s a big deal,” Rong Xi said, glancing at Qin Yuzhen and trying to reassure her.
“Tell me, what about this leg of yours doesn’t seem like a big deal?” Qin Yuzhen retorted.
Rong Xi opened her mouth, hesitated, then said, “At least… it’s still attached?”
Qin Yuzhen was so angry, she burst out laughing.
