I'm Not Playing This Vicious Female Supporting Character Anymore! - Chapter 2
The Rong family was wealthy and influential. Qin Yuzhen and the others returned home on a private jet.
After disembarking, Qin Yuzhen looked around. Second Uncle Rong, thinking she was looking for her parents, cleared his throat. “Your parents are quite busy and couldn’t make it. They’re waiting for you at home.”
“Mm,” Qin Yuzhen nodded. She wasn’t actually looking for them; she was just taking in the airport.
The Rong family’s parents might not have been particularly eager for Qin Yuzhen’s return. After all, not only did they fail to personally greet their long-lost daughter, but they didn’t even bother to show up at the airport.
The Rong family’s mansion was located in City A’s famous wealthy district.
The drive from the airport to the Rong residence took an hour and a half. Qin Yuzhen closed her eyes briefly to rest.
Second Uncle Rong had intended to give Qin Yuzhen a tour of City A, but seeing her lack of interest, he gave up.
As soon as the car stopped, Qin Yuzhen opened her eyes, instinctively waiting for someone to open the door. It took her a moment to remember her current circumstances.
She stepped out of the car and followed Second Uncle Rong into the mansion. The Rong family had numerous servants, and Qin Yuzhen could feel their scrutinizing gazes on her.
The Rong family’s interior design could be described as “gilded splendor.” Qin Yuzhen found the style somewhat tacky, giving off an air of nouveau riche.
Father Rong and Mother Rong sat on the sofa, immediately standing up when they saw Qin Yuzhen. Both were impeccably dressed, giving off a sense of solemn anticipation, as if they had been eagerly awaiting her return. Yet their expressions remained calm, devoid of any emotion one might expect from parents reunited with a long-lost child. They really don’t like me, Qin Yuzhen thought.
The frail girl seated to the side must be Rong Xi. She also stood up the moment Qin Yuzhen entered. Rong Xi lived up to her reputation as the female lead—she was beautiful, but not the aggressive kind of beauty. Her skin was snow-white and smooth, like a peeled egg, and her jet-black hair cascaded over her shoulders, giving her an overall pristine appearance. Though she wore no makeup, her lips held a natural, rosy glow, and her smiling eyes framed by well-proportioned features completed the picture of a standard “little white flower” beauty.
“Child…” Mother Rong began, her voice restrained as she looked at Qin Yuzhen.
Qin Yuzhen met their gazes. “What should I call you?”
Mother Rong stiffened. Father Rong frowned slightly. Second Uncle Rong glanced at Qin Yuzhen, surprised by her directness. Father Rong dismissed the servants.
“Sit,” Father Rong nodded at Qin Yuzhen.
“I’ve already heard from Second Uncle that to preserve the Rong family’s reputation and certain connections, my status will be defined as that of a distant cousin’s daughter. So, should I call you ‘Uncle’ and ‘Aunt’?” Qin Yuzhen offered a standard polite smile.
[ System: ] As expected, the slacker remains a slacker, maintaining that laid-back attitude no matter where he goes.
“Are you angry with us?” Father Rong asked, his brow furrowing slightly as he looked at Qin Yuzhen.
Qin Yuzhen paused, then plastered on an even more formal smile. “I’m not angry at all. I was simply repeating what Second Uncle told me and offering my own suggestion. Also, I don’t think there’s any need to change my name. I’ve used it for so many years, and changing it would be quite troublesome.”
“How can we not change your name? You’re a member of the Rong family now,” Mother Rong said.
“I don’t have a legitimate status to back it up. Even if I changed my surname, no one would acknowledge it. Besides, changing my name now would only arouse suspicion. We need to put on a convincing act.”
Father Rong gazed at Qin Yuzhen, and she met his gaze. They locked eyes for five seconds.
“Fine. We won’t change your name for now. Your school records will be transferred to City A. We’ll finalize everything in the next few days, and you can start school with Xixi the day after tomorrow,” Father Rong said. “Xixi is just a day younger than you. Make sure you get along well. From now on, you’ll be like sisters, understand?”
Qin Yuzhen glanced at Rong Xi again. He smiled at her, his cheeks flushed. “Okay.”
The adoption ceremony passed calmly. After Father Rong finished speaking, he hurried off to the company. Mother Rong tried to engage Qin Yuzhen in conversation, but Qin Yuzhen, uninterested in talking, played a Fatigue Card. Mother Rong then retreated to her room to sleep.
Eventually, only Qin Yuzhen and Rong Xi remained in the living room.
“Qin… Yuzhen, let me show you around,” Rong Xi said nervously, looking at her.
Qin Yuzhen nodded and followed him upstairs.
The Rong family’s property was expansive. The main villa had five floors: three above ground and two below. The second basement level housed the garage, while the first basement level contained a wine cellar, home theater, gym, and a library-sized study. The first floor held the living and dining areas, as well as a half-indoor swimming pool with a bar beside it. The second floor accommodated the Rong family’s master bedroom, another study, and a collection room. The third floor was where Rong Xi and Qin Yuzhen’s rooms were located. Rong Xi’s room was massive, occupying half the floor, combining bedroom, study, bathroom, and dressing room into one. In contrast, Qin Yuzhen’s room was much smaller, clearly a former guest room. The two adjacent guest rooms had been converted into a dressing room and study, and the walls between them had already been knocked down.
“Do you like my room?” Rong Xi asked, pursing her lips. “I can give it back to you.”
Qin Yuzhen glanced at Rong Xi. “What would they think of me if I took it? Are you testing me?”
“I’m not!” Rong Xi looked at Qin Yuzhen. “I’m not testing you. I’m serious…”
“There’s no need,” Qin Yuzhen said, then walked down the stairs.
Rong Xi pursed her lips and followed Qin Yuzhen out of the villa, her steps quickening to keep up.
“There are two other rooms nearby,” Rong Xi said. “One is where the housekeeper lives, and the other is a game room with a sauna. When the weather’s nice, we can have barbecues in the garden.”
Qin Yuzhen asked, “Don’t you have class today?”
“Huh? I do, but I took a sick day.” Rong Xi glanced at Qin Yuzhen. “My grades are pretty good… If you ever need help with anything, you can always ask me.”
“Why do you assume I’d need help? Are you looking down on me?” Qin Yuzhen asked.
Rong Xi fell silent for two seconds, then opened her mouth, her face flushing crimson. “That’s not what I meant! I…”
“Host, you know Rong Xi is a sweet, naive girl. Why are you teasing her?” The System, unable to stand idly by, interjected. “Don’t you prefer people who are good-looking? Isn’t Rong Xi good-looking?”
“Oh, I just can’t stand the female lead.”
Rong Xi tried to explain further, but Qin Yuzhen walked away again. Rong Xi immediately followed, her lips pressed into a thin line, visibly hurt.
Qin Yuzhen realized Rong Xi was surprisingly persistent, still hanging around even after being treated so poorly. If someone had done that to her, she would have stormed off long ago, probably kicking a few times before leaving.
“Are you masochistic or something?”
Rong Xi looked up at Qin Yuzhen, bewildered.
“Why don’t you just leave?” Qin Yuzhen glanced at her.
“It’s understandable that you don’t like me. After all, I stole your life.” Rong Xi twisted her shirt hem, avoiding Qin Yuzhen’s gaze. “I want to get along with you properly. If I’m nice to you, you’ll be nice to me too… right?”
Rong Xi glanced at Qin Yuzhen as she spoke.
“That’s not necessarily true,” Qin Yuzhen replied with a composed smile.
Rong Xi: “……”
“If you don’t like having me around, I can just live on campus,” she said.
“Then what do you want them to think of me?” Qin Yuzhen countered, bringing the conversation back to square one.
Rong Xi felt like she was about to cry. She’d never met anyone like this before.
“You want to get along with me, right? First, you have to call me ‘sister.’ You haven’t called me that even once. Doesn’t that mean you don’t acknowledge my position?” Qin Yuzhen said casually.
Another heavy accusation landed on Rong Xi. Still, she couldn’t bring herself to say it. Qin Yuzhen’s dismissive gaze made it even harder.
“Oh, so it was all a lie. You weren’t sincere at all.” Qin Yuzhen shook her head and turned to leave. “Don’t follow me. I don’t need fake affection.”
“Sister!” Rong Xi called out as Qin Yuzhen walked away.
Qin Yuzhen smiled but kept walking. Behind her, Rong Xi called out again.
“Sister…” Rong Xi’s voice softened.
“Not bad,” Qin Yuzhen nodded.
Rong Xi took a deep breath, relieved to see Qin Yuzhen smiling.
System: …
The two strolled around the Rong family courtyard before returning inside.
Qin Yuzhen went to her room, with Rong Xi following behind. “Mom… Aunt…”
“Just call me Mom,” Qin Yuzhen said.
“Mom mentioned going shopping together on Saturday. Your wardrobe is so empty,” Rong Xi said. “Look, I picked these out for you. I think you’ll like them.”
Qin Yuzhen surveyed the diverse styles in the wardrobe, impressed by Rong Xi’s good taste. She picked up a dress and noticed the price tag was still attached—this protagonist was quite careful.
“Do you like them?”
“They’re okay,” Qin Yuzhen replied.
Rong Xi, who had been hoping for praise, saw her smile fade slightly. “What else do you need? We can go shopping this afternoon for skincare products and such. I didn’t dare buy anything without knowing your skin type.”
“Do you think my skin is rough?” Qin Yuzhen glanced at Rong Xi. The original owner’s skin had indeed been subpar, but she had long since improved it using an Item Card.
“Huh?” Rong Xi was taken aback, never expecting such a trap. She looked at Qin Yuzhen’s face, which was flawless, smooth, and beautiful. She instinctively reached out to touch it, then declared, “No, it’s very smooth.”
Qin Yuzhen: ???
“You touched me?” Qin Yuzhen exclaimed, startled.
Rong Xi jumped back, startled by Qin Yuzhen’s reaction.
The System chuckled mockingly.
“I…” Rong Xi bit her lip. “I just wanted to feel how it felt. It looked so soft and touchable. I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist.”
“System, is this female lead an idiot?” Who touches someone’s face right upon meeting?
“I don’t know if she’s an idiot, but I do know she’s certainly bold.”
Qin Yuzhen reached out and pinched Rong Xi’s cheek. “Then I’ll touch you too. That’s called reciprocation.”
