I’m Not Falling for the Vampire Princess! - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Fanier hadn’t even applied pressure yet, but Jona already felt as though she couldn’t breathe. A chill spread down her spine; the two were so close that Jona could feel the rise and fall of Fanier’s chest.
Through the mirror, Jona could see Fanier’s fangs glinting with a cold light. Fanier’s appearance reminded Jona of the Asian girls she was familiar with in her real life an appearance that should have felt comforting, but now felt terrifying because of those sharp teeth.
Jona didn’t dare imagine whether this princess, known for her ruthlessness, would snap her neck in a single bite.
Their gazes met in the mirror, and Fanier chuckled softly. “Doesn’t Miss Jona love the feeling of fangs breaking the skin? Why look at me with such eyes? Are you blaming me for hurting you the other day?”
Jona felt her heart was about to burst through her ribs. She never expected that the bite mark on her neck had been left by Fanier.
Seeing Fanier tilt her head to bite her neck, Jona shrieked: “No! … I haven’t showered! I’m very dirty, if you bite me, you might get diarrhea!”
Fanier instinctively frowned, then relaxed. “But Miss Jona smells very fragrant; you don’t look dirty at all. Besides, I’m not a natural-born noble like Aurora. In the beginning, to fill my stomach, I even ate rats from the sewer let alone a delicate, appetizing lady like you. Miss Jona should know this better than anyone.”
Jona knew very well that Fanier’s words were just a scare tactic. Though Fanier didn’t follow royal etiquette, she wouldn’t have stooped to eating sewer rats.
But Jona wasn’t a sewer rat either, and Fanier might actually go through with it.
“Princess Fanier, I know you aren’t like what they say. In my heart, you are a noble royal just like Princess Aurora. Please don’t always protect yourself in this way!”
A flicker of emotion crossed Fanier’s eyes, but it was quickly replaced by harshness.
“Miss Jona’s ability to lie has improved; no wonder you fooled Aurora yesterday. You didn’t say such things when you abandoned me to get engaged to Suika. Or do you think I’m like Aurora and enjoy your flowery words? You spoke so passionately yesterday; if I didn’t know your true nature, I almost would have been fooled. I just wonder if poor Aurora will fall for it. If she is that stupid, how can she inherit the throne?”
Hearing Fanier say this, Jona was too terrified to breathe.
She never expected that a cannon-fodder character in a novel would have such deep ties with several princesses. No wonder Fanier’s reaction had been so strange when Jona praised Princess Aurora yesterday.
But it didn’t make sense. Why was none of this written in the novel she had read?
Why did other people who transmigrated into books get “cheat codes” or superpowers, or at least a plot they could navigate easily, while she had to clean up the mess left by the original body? And a mess where a single misstep meant losing her life!
For the first time, Jona felt the threat of death, and fear pooled in her eyes.
“Miss Jona, don’t look at me like that. The more afraid you are, the less I can control my strength.”
Having said that, Fanier lowered her head, pressing her fangs against Jona’s fair, tender neck.
“I already helped you ruin Princess Aurora’s coronation ceremony! Won’t you let me go?” Jona tried one last struggle.
“Heh.” Fanier let out a soft laugh. “Being clever like this makes you just as annoying as those arrogant nobles.”
Fanier choked Jona’s neck with one hand and gripped her wrist tightly with the other. The scent of blood made her eyes turn red, giving her a wicked appearance.
Jona didn’t dare look at Fanier in the mirror. She squeezed her eyes shut, and tears flowed uncontrollably from her eyes. Feeling her blood being drained, Jona leaned weakly into Fanier’s embrace.
She tilted her head back, feeling Fanier’s long hair brush against her cheek. A feeling of utter helplessness spread from her heart.
Just what kind of world had she come to?
Scalding tears fell onto Fanier’s hand. Fanier’s movements paused, but when she saw the person in her arms clearly, the pity in her eyes was gone in an instant, replaced by even greater force.
After Fanier was satiated, she licked the blood from the corner of her mouth. Her beautiful face looked even more bewitching. “Miss Jona’s blood is so sweet; no wonder Sister Aurora kept you in her castle.”
“No matter what, that is not a reason for you to trespass here.”
Aurora’s indifferent voice rang out. Jona turned her head sharply, feeling as though she had been caught doing something shameful.
Even though Aurora had changed into casual clothes, her aloof and noble aura still made her feel distant. As soon as she appeared, it was as if she had a different filter; in comparison, the beautiful and flamboyant Fanier seemed to dim significantly.
Fanier lazily rested her chin on Jona’s shoulder, the blood-red color in her eyes not yet faded. She looked at Aurora and spoke provocatively: “I came over specifically because I was worried Sister Aurora might lay a finger on Sister Suika’s fiancée. I remember Sister Aurora’s noble fangs never touch the skin of others, but seeing Miss Jona so weak, it’s hard not to overthink.”
Jona was dizzy, but she caught another of Fanier’s traits she loved to lie through her teeth.
Aurora seemed long accustomed to Fanier’s ways. These words did not provoke her. Aurora’s gaze stopped on Jona’s neck; the new bite marks were still wet with blood, but the bruising had disappeared.
“In that case, I’ll trouble you to send her back to Suika. After all, she is Suika’s fiancée. Fanier, you are a princess; if word of your behavior gets out, I’m afraid it will damage the royal reputation.”
“What does it matter? I’m just an person of unknown origin anyway. Who would truly consider me a member of the royal family? Isn’t that right, my dear Sister Aurora?”
Fanier’s tone was very light, but for some reason, Jona sensed a trace of loneliness in it. She vaguely felt that this princess of “impure blood” was trying to prove something through this behavior.
Aurora said in a deep voice: “As long as you hold the title of princess, no one dares to not treat you as a member of the royal family.”
“Including Sisha?”
“Sisha is still a child. Fanier, you are the older sister; you shouldn’t lower yourself to her level.”
“A child over three hundred years old who can use mid-tier magic? That sounds quite extraordinary.”
Fanier obviously did not accept this explanation.
Aurora murmured: “I apologize to you on Sisha’s behalf.”
“Sister Aurora is truly biased. Why can you apologize to me for Sisha? Is it because, in your eyes, I am just an outsider?” Fanier did not accept Aurora’s apology. Instead, she picked Jona up and flew out of the window.
After Fanier took Jona away, Aurora glanced at the untouched blood in the goblet by the bed, then thought of Jona’s deathly pale, sickly face, lost in thought.
The sun was bright outside. Jona was so blinded by the dazzling light that she could hardly open her eyes. She turned her head, wanting to look elsewhere, but realized she was high in the air.
This was the first time she had flown so high without any safety equipment, and she was being carried by a vampire princess she had only met twice.
Terrified, Jona clung tightly to Fanier’s neck. The sudden sense of suffocation made Fanier quite displeased.
“Let go, or I’ll drop you.”
“I won’t! If I let go, I’ll fall anyway! I won’t let go!” At the brink of life and death, Jona didn’t care about flattering the princess. Although she loosened the grip of her arms slightly, her hands tightly gripped Fanier’s shirt.
“You!” Fanier was clearly annoyed, but in the next second, she looked down and noticed that Jona’s delicate skin seemed to be getting scorched by the sun.
Fanier had no choice but to find a shaded spot to land. Seeing sweat on Jona’s forehead, she couldn’t help but mock: “Aurora is truly stingy enough. She hasn’t allowed you to eat since last night. She has so many blood-servants; surely she wouldn’t be stingy with a little blood.”
Having said that, Fanier impatiently placed her arm in front of Jona.
Jona saw Fanier raise her hand and thought Fanier was going to choke her neck again, so she instinctively reached out to block and took two steps back.
“Princess Fanier, I’m a bit dizzy, can you please stop drinking my blood…”
Fanier raised an eyebrow. “I’ll give you three seconds. If you don’t drink, I’m leaving.”
Jona was startled and said stutteringly: “No, no need… I don’t seem to be very dizzy… You are a princess, how can I drink your…”
What was going on? Fanier was letting her drink her blood???
But she felt nauseous just smelling blood. How could she possibly bite a vampire?
Fanier was displeased. She withdrew her hand, crossed her arms, and looked Jona over dismissively.
“What, just because you’re engaged to Suika, you’re unwilling to drink my blood? The sun is so strong today; if you don’t eat, surviving will be a pipe dream, let alone marrying Suika.”
Jona bit her lower lip, looking troubled.
First of all, she didn’t dare drink blood. Secondly, she had no idea how to control her fangs. She couldn’t just use her front teeth to gnaw on this princess, could she? That would be a death wish!
Seeing Fanier approach, Jona backed up again. She didn’t notice that she had backed into the sunlight. By the time she realized it, all her strength had left her.
Jona didn’t want to struggle anymore.
Whether being burned to death by the sun or starving to death, both seemed better than being bitten to death.
Just as she was about to face it calmly, she suddenly felt a patch of shade over her head.
Jona opened her eyes. A person in a long white dress was standing beside her holding an umbrella. She was backlit, and the whole person looked very gentle.
Jona was stunned. Such a gentle person must be a fairy.
But are there fairies in the world of vampires?
Jona pounded her head hard, fearing this was a hallucination before death. But Fanier was still in front of her; this didn’t seem to be a hallucination.
Fanier looked at the person holding the umbrella, took two steps back warily, but had a provocative smile on her face. “Sister Suika, long time no see. I rescued your fiancée from Sister Aurora; how do you plan to thank me?”
Hearing Suika’s name, Jona’s groggy brain exploded with a “bang.”
If she really was Suika’s fiancée, then did the things she said yesterday count as cuckolding Suika? Suika was, after all, a princess of the vampires. If she were provoked, wouldn’t she make Jona die even faster?
Jona stole a glance at Suika. Seeing Suika’s expression was as usual, with no visible anger or joy, she felt even more uncertain.
Suika lowered her eyes, glanced at the bite marks on Jona’s neck, and said calmly: “Aurora wouldn’t be so out of line.”
“I didn’t expect Sister Suika to be so calm after seeing her fiancée being touched by others. No wonder Sister Aurora always tells Sisha to learn from you.”
“Such words have no effect on me. You should save them to provoke Sisha.” Having said that, Suika pulled up Jona, who was slumped on the ground. There was no blame, nor concern; she just said faintly: “Let’s go. Come home with me.”
“Stop.” Fanier smilingly blocked Suika, and also blocked Jona’s path of retreat. “You aren’t officially married yet; how can Miss Jona go home with Sister Suika? Sister Suika wouldn’t be so out of line, would she?”
