- Chapter 6 - The Famous New Student
When Yu Zhouyao woke up, she felt as if her entire body had been crushed by a machine. Every inch of her was aching intensely.
Opening her eyes, she saw the familiar hospital ceiling once again. Her head was still spinning. She tilted her head to one side, trying to shake off the haze.
“Oh, you are awake,” Dr. Pei said coldly.
A chill ran down Yu Zhouyao’s spine, and all sleepiness vanished instantly. She drawled in a low voice, “Dr. Pei, I am still a patient. It is not good for a doctor to intimidate their patients, is it?”
Dr. Pei stared directly into her eyes with a deep, piercing gaze as if trying to see right through her. After a long silence, she spoke.
“An SS rank Alpha, even when ill, has more vitality than 99 percent of the Empire’s population.”
Yu Zhouyao continued to play weak. “Eh? Dr. Pei, what are you talking about? I do not quite understand. I still feel so unwell…”
Dr. Pei looked at her with a half-smile but said nothing. She efficiently recorded the data from the medical instruments, opened her device, and entered Yu Zhouyao’s case history.
“Doctor,” Yu Zhouyao asked gently, “am I very seriously ill?”
Dr. Pei did not even look up. “It is alright. Just a bit worse than yesterday.”
Yu Zhouyao gave a sheepish laugh. She did not dare bring up her “prison break” from the previous day.
Once finished with her work, Dr. Pei pulled a syringe from the medical cart. She grabbed Yu Zhouyao’s left hand and inserted the needle with quick, clinical precision. After finishing, she pulled up a stool and sat by the bed, staring into Yu Zhouyao’s eyes.
Feeling a bit numb under the scrutiny, Yu Zhouyao finally spoke. “Sorry, Dr. Pei, but you keep staring at me. Is there something on my face?”
“No.”
“Then…?”
Dr. Pei looked like she had discovered an incredible experimental subject, a mysterious smile playing on her lips. “I am simply studying an SS rank Alpha.”
“Are you talking about me?”
“Yes.”
“…Well, that sounds quite impressive then,” Yu Zhouyao chuckled nervously.
“Truly an amazing constitution… so this is what an SS rank body is like…” Dr. Pei murmured to herself, typing away on her device.
The words made Yu Zhouyao’s skin crawl, making her worry she was about to become a lab rat for a mad scientist.
Suddenly, Dr. Pei looked up and dropped a bombshell. “Student Yu Zhouyao, if I remember correctly, I never told you my last name was Pei yesterday.”
Yu Zhouyao’s expression stiffened.
Dr. Pei pressed her advantage. “So how did you know my name is Pei? Let me guess—mental strength?”
Yu Zhouyao refused to answer.
Satisfied with the silent confirmation, Dr. Pei stood up to leave the ward. At the door, she added, “Oh, by the way, since you are awake, you should check your device for messages. Information from Dawn Military Academy. The transportation base will likely send someone as well, so you should be careful. I am leaving.” She left behind a cool, composed silhouette.
Yu Zhouyao let out a long breath. She had been forced to be mentally sharp the moment she woke up. Dr. Pei was incredibly observant, and Yu Zhouyao had been careless enough to leave a trail.
Sitting up and leaning against the headboard, she decided to take this gap to quickly assess her situation. She opened her device and saw a small red dot on her notification bar. It was a system notification from Dawn Military Academy:
“Dear Student Yu Zhouyao,
Hello!
Thank you for choosing Dawn Military Academy. Your enrollment has been successful.
Your campus permissions have been activated. Please download the ‘My Dawn’ app and explore its functions according to the instructions. You can download the app via the link attached to this email. It will activate automatically upon binding to your device.
We wish you success in your studies.
Your forever home — Dawn Military Academy”
Yu Zhouyao cheered instantly. “Great! My friends and family back home, I did it! I enrolled successfully! I am so moved, may the Emperor bless me!”
She clicked the link, downloaded the app, and logged in. The “My Dawn” app featured a golden splash screen with the slogan: Study hard, make progress every day, welcome the dawn, and seize the peak.
The app was divided into three main sections: Academic Studies, Campus Life, and the Dawn Forum. A golden, round mascot appeared on the screen for a guided tour.
“Dear Student Yu Zhouyao, please follow my lead to quickly understand the functions of each module!”
-
- Academic Studies: Helps with course registration, checking class times and locations, viewing grades, and applying for exams or leaves of absence.
-
- Campus Life: Handles dormitory assignments, meal card top-ups, and campus clubs.
-
- Dawn Forum: An anonymous forum for teachers and students. The mascot, “Xiao Guang,” reminded her not to slack off during class time.
Yu Zhouyao was very satisfied and gave her new school a mental thumbs-up. She checked the personal center first to understand the schedule for the coming weeks.
Once she finished managing her own affairs, she could no longer suppress her curiosity. She clicked on the Dawn Forum. Unlike the other sections, the forum was an open board without sub-categories. As soon as she opened it, she was startled by a post highlighted in red on the front page.
[Shocking! Pheromone Loss of Control During the First Week of School! (Hot)]
Judging by the title, it was about yesterday. Yu Zhouyao clicked in.
-
- 1L: A pheromone explosion during freshman week? Is it a twist of human nature or a loss of morality? Welcome to “Inside Dawn.”
-
- 3L: I was there. As soon as the broadcast started, the teachers evacuated us.
-
- 399L: Breaking news! A girl did a sliding dash through the crowd and charged into the teaching building!
-
- 400L: Does she have a death wish? Charging in like that?
-
- 402L: Update! I asked around; she was going there to enroll.
-
- 403L: What?? What day is it? How is someone still not enrolled?
-
- 407L: I checked the rules. Enrollment is five days. Today is the last day, and there were only two and a half hours left.
Yu Zhouyao bit her lip. She didn’t want to enroll at the last second, but she was too broke for a direct ticket! She kept scrolling.
-
- 844L: Update! The medical team took people down. Two of them!
-
- 847L: They were carried down separately.
-
- 848L: The medical team said one was taken from the third floor and the other from the fifth.
-
- 849L: Weird, why weren’t they on the same floor?
-
- 1009L [Academic Affairs]: Both students have been sent to the First Interstellar Hospital for diagnosis and treatment. Thank you for your concern. We wish them a speedy recovery.
-
- 1104L [Academic Affairs]: The new student has successfully enrolled. Thank you for your concern.
-
- 1109L: Wait, who is this new student? Why is Academic Affairs making official announcements about them?
-
- 1110L: Watson, you have found the blind spot.
Yu Zhouyao sighed. She had just wasted five precious minutes of her life to conclude that her future classmates were incredibly bored. They had discussed this trivial matter for nearly two thousand posts. It seemed military cadets loved gossip just as much as the neighbors back on her home planet.
She stretched, closed her device, and tucked herself back into her blankets.
However, what Yu Zhouyao did not know was that the moment she left the forum, a new post appeared:
[New Gossip! New Student breaks through pheromone pressure to give out-of-control Alpha a suppressor! (New)]
Within minutes, this post exploded with hundreds of replies. The mysterious new student, Yu Zhouyao, was becoming famous.
