- Chapter 5 - Two Hours and Eight Minutes Until Enrollment Ends
Yu Zhouyao blushed, a rare occurrence for her.
She had never expected a fellow student to have a sudden, explosive heat. That unreliable passerby had given her completely wrong information.
If she had known half an hour ago that an Alpha was going through heat inside the building, she definitely would not have charged in after thinking it over.
An Alpha in heat is typically extremely aggressive and destructive. Furthermore, there is a chance that surrounding Alphas and Omegas could be triggered into their own cycles as well.
For safety reasons, Yu Zhouyao would have naturally stayed as far away as possible. Today’s events were entirely outside her expectations. Looking back now, she felt a lingering fear.
According to her physiology textbooks, Alphas and Omegas are instinctively attracted to each other’s pheromones during these periods, often leading to certain… situations. At the thought of this, she felt a wave of heat again, feeling as though she had stumbled upon a classmate’s deep secret.
Yu Zhouyao’s head felt heavy. Having gone so long without rest, her eyelids were fighting to close again.
She reviewed their clash. There had been a confrontation of mental strength, but no pheromone conflict. The other girl seemed to be directly craving her pheromones instead.
Wait, that did not seem quite right.
Yu Zhouyao vaguely sensed something was off, but she was too exhausted to think clearly. She took a deep breath, withdrawing her mental strength and pheromones to conserve energy.
She checked her device: Two hours and seven minutes left until enrollment ends.
She was reaching her breaking point. She had to find Academic Affairs immediately.
Yu Zhouyao pressed her hands against the floor to stand up, but she failed. She was forced to stop mid-motion, her body bent over. It turned out the girl was clutching her jacket.
“Sigh.”
With no other choice, Yu Zhouyao took off her jacket and draped it over the girl. The flush on the girl’s face had mostly faded. Her long hair lay on the floor, glossy and smooth.
After a moment’s thought, Yu Zhouyao partially lifted her up, spread her jacket on the floor, and then laid the girl back down on it. The girl’s brows were relaxed as if she were in a deep sleep.
With the clothes acting as a mat, she should be less cold, Yu Zhouyao thought. She checked one last time to make sure everything was in order before leaving the classroom.
[Two Hours and Three Minutes Until Enrollment Ends]
Time was short and the mission was heavy.
Yu Zhouyao could no longer afford to be distracted by the Alpha. She needed to complete the time-limited quest of “Last-Minute Enrollment.”
Without the constraint of the other Alpha’s mental strength, she sprinted to the fifth floor in less than thirty seconds.
Yu Zhouyao’s headache was now almost unbearable, and she lacked the energy to even check if anyone was in the office.
She collapsed to her knees in front of the office door, pounding on it frantically and shouting at the top of her lungs, “Teacher, are you there?! Teacher, are you there?! I am in a hurry! I am in a huge hurry! Please open the door! Save this child, save this child, save this child!”
Yu Zhouyao shouted for a long time, but there was no response. Her heart sank.
She tried one more time, yelling even louder, “Teacher, are you there?! This child wants to enroll! This child wants to enroll!”
Dejected, Yu Zhouyao’s body slumped down until she was sitting on the floor. She refused to give up and repeated herself several more times. In the end, she let out a desperate, broken roar: “Teacher! My name is Yu Zhouyao! I want to enroll!”
Her body had reached its absolute limit. She collapsed onto the floor, her strength gone.
As her consciousness blurred, she thought she heard the sound of footsteps. Mechanically, she repeated one last time: “Teacher… I am Yu Zhouyao from M419… I want to enroll…”
She forced herself to hold out her device.
Then, Yu Zhouyao lost consciousness completely.
Bad luck does not always stick to the same person. Good luck finally granted Yu Zhouyao a rare favor.
The clock rewound to thirty minutes prior.
Just as Yu Zhouyao had stepped into the teaching building, the group of unreliable students had finally managed to contact an Academic Affairs teacher after a period of chaos. Actually, “contact” was not the right word; the teacher had appeared on his own to maintain discipline in the school’s open areas.
As soon as the students saw him, they swarmed him, reporting the emergency inside the building all at once.
“Teacher Zhai, we finally found you!” “Teacher, has the pheromone explosion inside been resolved yet?” “Can we go back to class soon?” “I am hungry, can I go to the cafeteria now?” “Teacher Zhai, we could not stop her—a girl ran into the building!” “Yes, we told her it was dangerous, but she forced her way in anyway!”
The Dean, Zhai Shiming, felt his ears ringing.
These students were a noisy mess. He worked hard to extract the key information and prioritize the emergency: Teaching building, pheromone explosion, girl intruder.
He felt a headache coming on. These little brats were causing trouble for him again.
He clapped his hands for silence. “Everyone, be quiet. If you all talk at once, I only hear fragments.”
He pointed to the student closest to him. “You, tell me what is happening in the building right now.”
A student with small brown curls scratched his head and looked at the others. “Teacher Zhai, I only heard about it from them. An hour ago, we were told an Alpha’s pheromones were out of control and to evacuate. Then, maybe less than ten minutes ago, a girl came sliding through the school gate. That sliding stop was actually really cool…”
Zhai Shiming coughed.
The student wiped the smile off his face. “Right, sorry. Anyway, she got up and asked Lu Yuan for directions. She said she was here to enroll. We told her it was dangerous, but we could not stop her. Lu Yuan is right here, you can verify it with her.” He pointed to a black-haired student near the gate.
Lu Yuan was the “passerby” from earlier.
Realizing the urgency, Zhai Shiming spoke faster. “Student Lu Yuan, is this true?”
Lu Yuan nodded, her face full of anxiety. “She said she needed to enroll and asked which floor the office was on. I told her the fifth. But the Alpha is on the third! Teacher, please go check on her, I am worried something will happen…”
“Do you know her name?”
“Sorry, Teacher, I do not. She was in such a hurry she did not say, and I did not ask.”
Zhai Shiming calmed the students. “Thank you for the information. I will handle this immediately. Please wait here patiently. Do not add to the chaos. Make sure no one else enters the building.”
Zhai Shiming stepped out of the crowd and took out his device to share the information with the rest of the office.
According to Lu Yuan, a girl had entered the building to enroll. Today was Friday, and the number of people who had not yet enrolled could be counted on two hands.
A name flashed through Zhai Shiming’s mind. He immediately logged into the database and filtered the results. Two seconds later, the screen displayed:
“Yu Zhouyao. Origin: M419. Female Alpha. Recommended by the Frontier Education System due to excellent basic studies. Admitted as a scholarship student after school assessment. Status: Not yet enrolled.”
That had to be her.
He had been her remote proctor for the entrance exam, and she had left a deep impression on him. After all, she was someone who could even be late for a remote exam. Being late for enrollment was entirely in character.
Zhai Shiming pulled up Yu Zhouyao’s photo and showed it to the students.
Lu Yuan took one look and raised her voice: “Teacher Zhai, that is her! That is the one!”
“Thank you.” Having confirmed the person, Zhai Shiming left quickly.
He sprinted to the teaching building and confirmed the situation with the medical team. Gathered below were not only school doctors but also private doctors from the Mu family. It was only logical they would show up since the Mu family’s eldest daughter was the one in trouble.
Zhai Shiming exchanged a few words with the Mu family representatives, put on a protective suit, grabbed a suppressor, and led his team inside.
He had only taken a few steps when someone called out to him again. He turned to see researchers from the Interstellar Flight Transportation Base. He wondered why they were at a school, but they got straight to the point: “Hello, Teacher. We are looking for Yu Zhouyao.”
Zhai Shiming remained calm. “Understood. Wait a moment, I will be right back.”
“Teacher Zhai, we are in a hurry.” “Sorry, I am in a hurry too.” “…The Mu family is also in a hurry.”
Taking advantage of the Mu family rep’s intervention, Zhai Shiming seized the chance to slip into the building with his team.
They went straight to the third floor to check on Mu Mingyue. Zhai Shiming was a Beta and could not smell the thick pheromones in the building, but his handheld detector was beeping incessantly. The non-Beta members of the medical team looked grim.
They reached the classroom door and saw a girl lying on the floor, cushioned by a jacket. The medical team performed a quick check and confirmed Mu Mingyue was out of danger; her pheromones had stabilized.
Zhai Shiming found the empty suppressor packaging on the floor.
The medical team reported: “Director Zhai, preliminary judgment is that Mu Mingyue is out of danger after a suppressor injection. Based on the site, we found two different pheromones. Besides Mu Mingyue’s, there is another one, likely belonging to Yu Zhouyao.”
Zhai Shiming nodded and headed straight for the fifth floor.
From a distance, he heard a faint mumbling. The sound was too low to hear clearly. His steady footsteps echoed in the hallway. He spotted a girl collapsed on the floor.
As he approached, Yu Zhouyao used every last bit of her strength to force out the words: “Teacher, my name is Yu Zhouyao. I want to enroll.”
Her breathing was ragged, her voice fading. She lost consciousness before she could even finish the sentence.
The medical team rushed to provide emergency treatment.
Zhai Shiming picked up Yu Zhouyao’s device, verified her information, and processed her enrollment in the system.
The mechanical voice of the device announced: “Congratulations to Student Yu Zhouyao on a successful enrollment. Campus permissions have been activated.”
Yu Zhouyao, Yu Zhouyao.
Zhai Shiming repeated her name in his mind and shook his head. With Yu Zhouyao and Mu Mingyue, these two troublemakers, the freshman year was going to be quite a ride.
Once he confirmed the situation was under control, Zhai Shiming turned and headed downstairs to clean up the mess for the two young girls.
