- Chapter 4 - Two Hours and Thirty-Seven Minutes Until Enrollment Ends
At the main gate of Dawn Military Academy.
Because the previous sprint had been too intense, Yu Zhouyao felt as if her brains were about to be shaken out of her head. She fought back the dizziness and used her hands to push herself off the ground. When she stood up, the world spun, and she stumbled.
Damn it, she really should have listened to the doctor’s advice. She felt like she was going to throw up.
Yu Zhouyao forced herself to focus and scanned her surroundings. Military cadets in uniform were staring at her with expressions reserved for monsters.
She comforted herself. It was fine. Their gazes were much kinder than the bald uncle from earlier.
She coughed twice to clear her throat and asked the student closest to her.
“Hello, classmate. This is Dawn Military Academy, right? Why is everyone gathered at the gate?”
The student she addressed looked at her with a sense of awe and replied, “That is right, this is Dawn Military Academy. An Alpha in the teaching building had a pheromone explosion. The school evacuated everyone immediately, and now we are all gathered at the playground.”
Yu Zhouyao pressed her temples, trying to stay awake.
“An Alpha out of control? Okay, I see. I wanted to ask, where are the Academic Affairs teachers?”
The student hesitated. “Probably still inside the teaching building.”
“Are they in the Academic Affairs office?”
“Likely.”
“Which floor is the office on?”
“The fifth floor of the building in front of us.”
Yu Zhouyao had her answer. She adjusted her posture and prepared to move forward.
The student stopped her. “Wait, classmate, you cannot go further. The out of control Alpha is on the third floor of that building.”
“Is that so? I understand,” Yu Zhouyao replied flatly.
Her voice showed no emotion, but internally, she was incredibly frustrated. She complained to herself: Dear Alpha classmate, please do not get in my way. I am in a hurry to enroll.
Yu Zhouyao thanked the passerby for the information and strode toward the teaching building. She was moving so fast that she completely missed the whispers behind her.
“Why is that girl charging in? Does she want to die?” “I told her not to go. What if she loses control too?” “Oh no, I forgot to tell her that the Alpha inside is the eldest daughter of the Mu family. She is an SS rank.”
[Two Hours and Thirty-Five Minutes Until Enrollment Ends]
Second floor of the Dawn Military Academy teaching building.
The side effects of not resting for a long time began to manifest. Yu Zhouyao’s eyelids were fighting to stay open. She let out a yawn and used the handrail to keep a steady pace. As she caught her breath, a powerful wave of pheromones hit her.
What a strong sense of pressure. Such a heavy smell of blood. It was an intense pheromone. It was her first time encountering a blood scented one, which was extremely rare even among Alphas. Yu Zhouyao thought that this person’s condition must be serious if she could already smell it in the stairwell.
The pheromones on the other side acted like a beast guarding its territory. Sensing a stranger approaching, the blood scent wrapped in mental strength and attacked Yu Zhouyao as if provoked.
Yu Zhouyao released her own mental strength, carefully keeping it within half a meter of her body to avoid further provoking the other person. The hostile pheromones hit her like waves.
She yawned again and dealt with it cautiously. The pheromones did not stop her. She crossed the final step and reached the third floor.
Yu Zhouyao stood in the stairwell and looked around. The corridor was empty. She sent out threads of mental strength toward the classrooms and finally detected a suspicious Alpha in the second room on the right.
Following her principle of staying out of trouble, Yu Zhouyao did not plan to burst in and play the hero. This blood scented pheromone felt dangerous.
Even a powerful dragon cannot suppress a local snake, and an out of control Alpha has an instinctual need for territory. Since she was about to pass the third floor to find the office on the fifth, she decided to say hello to reduce trouble.
She stood in the stairwell and used her mental strength to amplify her voice. “Hello, classmate. My name is Yu Zhouyao, and I am a new student. I am sorry to disturb you. I hope you recover soon. I mean no offense, but I have urgent business with Academic Affairs on the fifth floor. Could you please do me a favor and pull back your pheromones a bit so I can pass through?”
The building was silent except for her echo. The blood scent did not weaken and continued to strike her.
The lack of response was expected. Pheromone loss of control is a serious accident. People with weak mental strength might lose consciousness, and even those who are awake might not be able to control their bodies.
Yu Zhouyao waited patiently for a minute. When there was still no reply, she took it as consent. In her mind, she had said hello, so the matter was settled.
She pulled her pheromones tight around her to minimize her presence. Braving the thick scent, she prepared to continue up the stairs. But as soon as she moved, the blood scent tangled around her legs, refusing to let her go.
Yu Zhouyao looked down and tried to shake her legs, but she could not break free. Her frustration grew.
Are you kidding me? I did not disturb your episode, so why are you clinging to me and not letting me leave? I am really in a hurry.
Yu Zhouyao laughed out of sheer anger. She stopped restraining her mental strength and let it flood the entire third floor stairwell. She drove her mental strength forward, trying to push the other person back with brute force.
This only provoked the other side further. The blood scent grew thicker, bringing a mental shock that felt like a battlefield full of corpses.
Yu Zhouyao raised an eyebrow. The attack was fierce. If she had not been prepared, someone with weaker mental strength would have been knocked unconscious.
She checked the time on her device: Two hours and twenty-five minutes left until enrollment ends.
Time was running out. She really could not afford to waste any more. She increased her mental strength output and continued forward. The other person’s pheromones followed her every step. When she moved, her mental strength advanced, and the other person’s mental strength followed.
Yu Zhouyao reached the fourth floor.
The moment she pulled back a portion of her mental strength to scan the surroundings, the other person saw a gap in her defense and launched a sudden attack. Annoyed, Yu Zhouyao had to pull her mental strength back and reinforce her defense again. She only caught a quick glimpse of the fourth floor, which, like the third, was filled with classrooms.
She realized she had been in such a hurry that she forgot to ask the passerby if the teachers were actually in the office. If they were not, this would be a wasted trip. She really was starving and exhausted.
She continued toward the fifth floor. The person behind her seemed to sense her intention and attacked her mental barrier violently, trying to stop her from reaching the top.
Yu Zhouyao stopped in the stairwell, passively defending. She was starting to lose her temper. In the middle of the tidal wave of attacks, she began to intersperse her own mental counterattacks.
She felt truly unlucky. Being poor was not just a situation; it was a destiny. She had finally reached the building, yet she had to play mental games with a crazy classmate. A sick person versus a crazy person was a perfect match.
Speaking of being sick, Yu Zhouyao remembered she had snatched a nutrient solution when she ran from the hospital. To prevent herself from fainting in the hallway, she decided to take a sip to keep herself going.
She pulled a bag of liquid from her pocket. She looked at it and fell silent for three whole seconds. Three precious seconds.
The label did not say “Universal Nutrient Solution.” It said “3309-Alpha Suppressor.”
Yu Zhouyao was so angry she wanted to laugh. She suspected she was cursed on Planet Aurora. Out of all the liquids on the nurse’s cart, she had precisely grabbed a suppressor. Did Dr. Pei have the power of prophecy? Did she know Yu Zhouyao would run into a pheromone crisis at school?
Yu Zhouyao accepted her fate. It seemed she had to help the Alpha on the third floor today.
She scanned the instructions for the suppressor. Good, there were no contraindications, and it worked for pheromone disorders.
She turned around, broke through the other person’s mental strength, and ran toward the third floor with a grim expression. Seeing her run back, the blood scent became less aggressive, almost as if welcoming her.
Yu Zhouyao stopped at the second classroom on the right. She took a deep breath and burst through the door.
She growled through gritted teeth, “Classmate, did I not give you a heads up? I have urgent business. Please, pull back your damn pheromones!”
Still no answer.
Yu Zhouyao calmed her breathing. She stood at the door and did not see anyone at first. Following the scent, she found an unconscious Alpha girl by the window. Her face was flushed, and her pheromones were as thick as boiling water.
Yu Zhouyao frowned. Logically, someone with such strong mental strength should not lose consciousness from a pheromone explosion. Something was wrong.
The iron like pheromones seemed to have a mind of their own. They discovered Yu Zhouyao and tried to wrap around her and swallow her whole. Yu Zhouyao felt dizzy and almost lost the strength to maintain her mental barrier.
Under the attack, Yu Zhouyao had to release her own pheromones.
The scent of orange soda splashed into the small space.
Like melting in water, the concentration of the blood scent weakened. It suddenly withdrew all its aggression and began to cheer around Yu Zhouyao.
This is too strange, Yu Zhouyao thought.
Even worse, her own condition was poor. She might collapse at any second. She had no time to think and just needed to administer the suppressor.
Yu Zhouyao sat against the wall and pulled the girl onto her lap. She spread her pheromones to comfort her. The orange soda met the blood scent and evaporated, leaving only a hint of sweetness in the air.
She took the chance to find the sterile syringe in her pocket and loaded the suppressor. The girl would not stay still, nuzzling against Yu Zhouyao’s lap like a puppy smelling food. Fearing she would cause more trouble, Yu Zhouyao placed a hand gently on her head to calm her.
The girl did not settle for that. She shifted her body and instinctively tried to sit up and hug Yu Zhouyao. The contact made Yu Zhouyao’s spine tingle, though she could not say why.
She whispered, “Dear sister, do me a favor and stay still for thirty seconds.” To be safe, she increased the intensity of her pheromones.
The girl finally quieted down, like a greedy child who had finally received candy. Yu Zhouyao took a breath, turned her over, and accurately injected the suppressor into her gland.
The girl struggled slightly as if sensing something. Fearing the needle would fall out, Yu Zhouyao pressed one hand on her shoulder and the other on her waist.
After a few seconds, she stopped moving. The suppressor had finally taken effect. The pheromones around her faded and were no longer aggressive.
Yu Zhouyao let out a long breath and leaned against the wall, exhausted. She moved the girl off her lap and laid her flat on the floor.
She caught a glimpse of the girl’s face. It was still flushed. Her pheromones were still clinging to Yu Zhouyao.
Suddenly, a realization hit her. Her long dormant logic finally reconnected. Looking at this girl’s behavior, she… she…
This was not a pheromone explosion at all. She was in heat!
A blush crept onto Yu Zhouyao’s own face.
