- Chapter 2 - Four Hours and Fifteen Minutes Until Enrollment Ends
On the spacecraft.
“Yu Zhouyao!”
Eric had not stopped screaming.
Yu Zhouyao ignored him completely.
Life is hard, and Yu Zhouyao sighed.
Since the freshman enrollment period at Dawn Military Academy is a fixed week, she only needs to arrive at the school and successfully register before 5:00 PM local time on Friday. She does not have much time left.
Yu Zhouyao said coldly, “Four hours and fifteen minutes left. Stop screaming, Monkey.”
The man with the afro leaned in toward her, continuing to rant. “I am screaming? I am screaming? Yu Zhouyao, look at what you are flying! Look for yourself. The dashboard alarms have not stopped for a second. Can you not see the warning, warning, warning?”
Yu Zhouyao shot him a freezing glare.
Eric shuddered and fell silent. Yu Zhouyao might not have noticed it herself, but her mental strength was so tense that it was manifesting externally. Eric, sitting right next to her, felt like he had been struck by a blade.
Eric sat up straight instinctively.
Yu Zhouyao took a deep breath and focused on the dashboard.
Due to Eric’s earlier negligence, this ship was on the verge of being scrapped. Yu Zhouyao had to use manual controls to stabilize the fuselage. With time tight and the mission heavy, Yu Zhouyao took a radical approach. She chose the most aggressive flying style: abandoning all devices except the nose of the ship and crash landing the craft while ejecting themselves in escape pods during the descent.
Now, they have passed the meteor belt and are about to enter the atmosphere of Planet Aurora. The most dangerous part of the crash landing is about to begin.

“Beep, beep, beep.” A mechanical alarm sounded. The researcher on duty looked up and checked the monitors. They discovered a massive, unconventional energy combustion reaction ten thousand kilometers away from the planet. It appeared to be a falling aircraft.
Two researchers quickly dialed the internal line to report this emergency to their superiors. Meanwhile, other researchers tried to contact the craft via satellite communication, attempting to establish a link with the pilot.

On the spacecraft.
The dashboard was covered in red warnings. With a crackle of static, a communication signal from the ground base flashed on the screen.
Yu Zhouyao glanced at it but did not answer.
Eric asked hesitantly, “Should we not answer it?”
Yu Zhouyao refused decisively. “No. Too much trouble. I did not see it.” As she spoke, she slammed the thrusters to the floor.
Eric watched her actions and sucked in a breath of cold air.

A researcher asked anxiously, “Director Zhou, we have linked with the craft’s signal, but the communication has not been picked up. Can we assume the humans on board have lost consciousness or the ability to pilot?”
A middle aged man wearing black framed glasses stared intently at the radar map. He replied cautiously, “Try again.”
The researcher attempted to establish communication once more.

On the spacecraft.
The communication signal appeared on the dashboard again.
Yu Zhouyao glanced at Eric, and he sheepishly lowered his hand.
“Do not answer. This crash landing needs to be disguised as an interstellar traffic accident. Otherwise, we will have to pay for the damages on the ground. Eric, we have no money.”
Eric nodded, his afro bouncing up and down.
Yu Zhouyao’s gaze remained locked on the dashboard. Behind the red warning signals, she was calculating vital flight parameters. Since the ground base had already locked onto their signal, they could no longer modify their flight path under the researchers’ noses. Yu Zhouyao quickly calculated the landing positions for the craft and the escape pods. Once confirmed, she unbuckled her seatbelt.
“Eric, remember, we must insist that this cheap ship crashed because of a self initiated malfunction. We only survived by luck. We set the escape pod landing point when the accident happened and entered the pods before losing consciousness.”
“Understood.”
“I dismantled the ship’s built in communication recorder and black box a few days ago. They will not find any evidence. Monkey, keep your mouth shut.”
“I know.”
The two quickly retreated from the cockpit, pried open the escape pods on both sides of the fuselage, and climbed in.
Yu Zhouyao gave one last instruction. “The descent will be weightless. If it feels bad, use your mental strength to protect your head.” After sensing Eric’s mental strength from the opposite pod, she closed her eyes and prepared to clear her mind.

The researcher who had been trying to establish contact looked troubled. “Director Zhou…”
Zhou Tongwei waved his hand, signaling him to stop trying.
“We can judge that the crew has lost contact. Prepare for rescue immediately.”
The surrounding researchers nodded and scattered to handle their various tasks.
[Three Hours and Forty-Nine Minutes Until Enrollment Ends]
Atmosphere of Planet Aurora.
A grey and white craft sliced through the atmosphere. Blue purple flames burned behind it, letting out a sharp, booming sound. Amidst the massive noise, two metal pods were ejected from the ship.

A researcher in a white coat said in a deep voice, “The buffer interception system is activated.”
A light blue energy shield appeared in the sky, beginning to push back against the ship that was nearly self combusting. The light blue of the shield glowed with intense red and purple light. Even through the monitor, the researchers could feel the intensity and terror of the fire.
Within that purple hot area, the researcher thought she saw two black dots flash by. She blinked, thinking it was an illusion.
Director Zhou pushed his glasses up and spoke. “It is not an illusion. There is something else. Zoom in.”
Another researcher magnified the display, focusing on the two small black dots. In the middle of the red and purple, two ellipsoids were scorched black.
The surrounding researchers were stunned by the sight and took a deep breath.
“Director Zhou, this is…”
Zhou Tongwei squinted, looking closely at the objects. “Old fashioned escape pods. This style is from nearly thirty years ago. I cannot believe we are seeing them now.” He tapped the table and ordered quickly, “The people might still be saved. Move fast. Group one, look up data on these pods. Group two, predict the landing points. Group three, prepare to intercept on site at any time.”
“Yes!” A chorus of replies echoed.

Atmosphere of Planet Aurora.
The grey and white ship finally burned out, crashing helplessly against the energy shield. Several mechanical arms made of condensed energy emerged from the shield, steadily catching the two scorched escape pods. The energy arms wrapped around the metal lumps and sent them back to the ground along the curved structure of the shield.

The ship fragments and the two escape pods were returned to the open space of the ground base by the mechanical arms. Group three, waiting there, immediately started their instruments to check the pods and look for vital signs.
Zhou Tongwei walked over quickly with a team of researchers. “How is it? Are they alive?”
The technician nodded and replied, “Director Zhou, the vital signs in both pods are very stable. We will perform a manual awakening immediately.”
Zhou Tongwei nodded and said, “Good. Call me as soon as they wake up.” As he spoke, the metal lid of one of the pods seemed to move.
He turned around just as a pair of surprised eyes peeked out from the cabin. Zhou Tongwei could not help but show a look of surprise himself.
[Three Hours and Fifteen Minutes Until Enrollment Ends]
Inside the escape pod.
Yu Zhouyao snapped her eyes open, staring straight at the narrow metal door of the pod.
She had not been startled awake; she had never fallen asleep in the first place.
According to her original plan, after the pod detached from the ship, it should have crashed into the ground amidst turbulence and loud noise from air friction. But the reality seemed different from what she had expected.
After the pod detached, she felt as if she had hit something. It felt quite sturdy and provided a strong buffer for the descent. The pod was soundproof, so she could not hear the burning outside, but her mental strength sensed a massive amount of energy fluctuations. She guessed her little ship had exploded. Once the burning was mostly over, the two pods should have fallen freely, but it felt like they were carried back to the ground by something.
The current situation was beyond Yu Zhouyao’s understanding. As a girl from the countryside, she could not imagine high technology she had never seen before. She did not dare move, so she lay stiffly in the pod, trying her best to play the role of a sleeping beauty.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, she withdrew her mental strength and tried to erase any traces of it left in the pod.
After reaching the ground, Yu Zhouyao continued to play dead. The soundproofing of this box was so good that no sound from outside could get in. She did not dare spread her mental strength, so she just counted the seconds, waiting for the right moment to run out.
As the seconds ticked by, her anxiety grew. There were only a little over three hours left, and she was terrified of missing enrollment. She hardened her heart and decided to pry the door open. While she could still move, she wanted to get out and observe the situation.
She struggled to sit up and tapped the metal door twice to unlock it.
She pushed the door open gently. Just as she poked her head out, she saw a large group of people in white coats. Standing right in the middle was a man with a mysterious smile on his face. Yu Zhouyao felt a sense of desperate fate, like a lab rat walking right into a biochemical research institute.
Yu Zhouyao was shaken. She thought things were looking bad and her life was over.
