- Chapter 14 - The Crisis and the Silent Comfort
After clearing up the misunderstanding with Mu Mingyue, the two of them resumed their practice.
Mu Mingyue was intensely interested in attaching mental strength to physical movements. She actively requested that Yu Zhouyao throw her, and Yu Zhouyao followed the young miss’s instructions without holding back, putting her full effort into every move. With a swift shoulder throw, she sent Mu Mingyue neatly to the ground.
Mu Mingyue patted the dust off her clothes as she climbed up, looking slightly confused. “Zhouyao, I still feel like I haven’t grasped the trick. I feel like I can’t actively release my mental strength.”
Yu Zhouyao rested a finger on her chin. “Hmm… I haven’t really felt your mental strength fluctuating much either.”
“As I thought,” Mu Mingyue replied pensively.
“What?” Yu Zhouyao asked, completely lost. She continued, “How about this: try releasing just a tiny fraction of your mental strength first, and then we will try to control it and attach it precisely to your body?”
“Alright, let’s try that. Thank you, Zhouyao.” Mu Mingyue nodded, her hair swaying in the air.
She took a deep breath, sensing her mental strength from the inside out, slowly asserting control over it. Standing beside her, Yu Zhouyao gradually felt the oppressive weight of the other girl’s power. Not bad, she thought, a good start.
An invisible wall seemed to appear around Mu Mingyue, blocking the circulation of air and forcefully declaring her ownership of the immediate space. Her mental strength was just as domineering as her pheromones, striking out with intense pressure toward everything in her territory.
Yu Zhouyao released her own mental strength, keeping it tight around her body to act as a shield.
Suddenly, a faint scent of blood filled the air. A massive wave of mental energy surged toward her—aggressive and hostile. Yu Zhouyao’s focus sharpened to a point as she neutralized the attack.
No, this mental signature isn’t right. Yu Zhouyao’s brow furrowed. Mu Mingyue’s current state was alarmingly similar to the day school started; she was showing signs of losing control. Yu Zhouyao projected her mental strength outward, not to attack, but in a purely passive defense, terrified of further provoking her.
The smell of blood grew heavier. Even her mental strength, which should not have a physical form, seemed to carry the scent. Yu Zhouyao realized something was very wrong. She glanced toward the center of the field where the main group was training. Fortunately, when they had moved to spar, they had stayed far from the crowd. So far, no other students were affected.
She immediately raised her hand to report to Instructor Liu. “Report, Instructor! Mu Mingyue isn’t looking well. I am requesting permission to take her to the infirmary to rest. Please also notify the Mu family’s doctors.”
Instructor Liu nodded and granted permission. Having received the order, Yu Zhouyao acted quickly to get Mu Mingyue off the field.
“Excuse me, Miss,” she whispered. As she spoke, she rapidly broke through the other girl’s mental barrier, reached the center of the storm, and scooped Mu Mingyue up in a bridal carry. She sprinted to the school infirmary, found a clean, empty bed in the resting area, and laid the young miss down.
Yu Zhouyao looked around. There was no one in the infirmary, and the school doctor was nowhere to be found. After a moment’s thought, she locked the door from the inside, fearing Mu Mingyue might influence others.
The young miss’s pheromones were getting heavier, wrapped in mental strength and attacking the air at random. It looked even more severe than a few minutes ago. Yu Zhouyao tried to use her own mental strength to gently approach the other girl, but it was useless. She was slapped back by the blood-scented pheromones and pushed away.
Fine. Based on the process of elimination and previous experience, mental strength is useless against her.
Yu Zhouyao’s brain worked at light speed. She began frantically rummaging through the cabinets in the infirmary, searching for a suitable Alpha suppressor. After five minutes of digging through every visible shelf, she only found standard Alpha heat suppressors, which were not suitable for pheromone disorders.
Yu Zhouyao held the bottle, feeling like she was choking. The young miss had just had a cycle; it was impossible for another one to hit after only two or three days. This suppressor wouldn’t help with a disorder. She decided against using medication without a doctor’s order, fearing it might make things worse.
Only the scent of blood remained in the air. Mu Mingyue was moaning in pain on the bed, her face deathly pale. Yu Zhouyao wanted to get close to ask if she carried her own medication or to search her person, but given the violent state of the pheromones, she had to abandon that idea.
She felt like her CPU was about to explode. She listed a dozen plans in her head and crossed them out one by one. Finally, only the most primitive, biological method remained: using her own pheromones to comfort Mu Mingyue.
Yu Zhouyao walked toward the bed in silence, facing the thick smell of blood head-on. She spread her pheromones, wrapping them entirely around Mu Mingyue.
The scent of orange soda fell into the sea of blood, making crisp melting sounds. The concentration of the blood scent thinned significantly. Perhaps attracted by the different scent, the aggression faded away. Yu Zhouyao gently touched Mu Mingyue’s forehead, praying for her in her heart.
As the orange soda met the blood and evaporated, a hint of sweetness filled the room. Mu Mingyue’s expression relaxed, and her breathing gradually steadied. Yu Zhouyao let out a long sigh of relief.
Last time, Dr. Pei had only said vaguely that her pheromones could comfort Alphas. Yu Zhouyao had no idea how it actually worked. More importantly, she didn’t know if doing this would have side effects for Mu Mingyue. She didn’t dare withdraw her pheromones yet, keeping them at a very low concentration while they floated through the room.
With the situation stable for now, Yu Zhouyao quickly opened her device. She had been in such a hurry last time that she hadn’t added Dr. Pei’s contact info. Instructor Liu was supposed to contact the Mu family, but no one had arrived yet.
In her contacts, Eric had bombarded her with dozens of messages.
[Banana Lover]: Yu Zhouyao, say something! [God of Wealth]: 111. [God of Wealth]: Monkey, are you still at the hospital? [Banana Lover]: You think I wouldn’t have run by now? [God of Wealth]: …You didn’t run far, did you? [Banana Lover]: What do you want? [God of Wealth]: Great, you’re close. Do me a favor. The doctor who saw me in the ER is named Pei. Her office should be on the 13th floor. Go find someone to ask for her contact info, or just give her mine. Tell her I’m looking for her and it’s an emergency—tell her my health is bad. [Banana Lover]: ? [Banana Lover]: Damn it! How much money do you have to keep throwing at a hospital? [God of Wealth]: ? No money. But things are urgent here. Please, Teacher Monkey.
Yu Zhouyao put down the device and took a deep breath. Mu Mingyue lay quietly on the bed, sleeping peacefully with a rosy tint returning to her cheeks. If the setting weren’t so wrong, she would have looked exactly like a sleeping beauty from a fairytale. Seeing her improvement, Yu Zhouyao felt a bit more at ease.
In less than three minutes, Eric replied.
[Banana Lover]: Yu Zhouyao! I found her! Feed me a meal for this! I’m exhausted! [God of Wealth]: Deal. Thanks, Teacher Monkey.
A red dot appeared on her contact requests with a simple note: “Pei.” Yu Zhouyao added her instantly. A second later, the doctor called. Dr. Pei’s voice sounded anxious.
“Yu Zhouyao, where are you now?” “Dr. Pei, we are at the school infirmary.” “Is Mingyue with you?” “Yes.” Dr. Pei sighed in relief. “How is her condition?” Yu Zhouyao hesitated. “She seems to have stabilized. But… I think you should come do a detailed check.” “Fine. Three minutes. I’m on my way.” Yu Zhouyao added, “If you can, bring some suppressors.” “Understood.”
After hanging up, Yu Zhouyao felt the weight lift. Having nothing to do, she took the opportunity to tidy up the cabinets she had rummaged through. Not long after, a knock came at the door.
“It’s me.”
Yu Zhouyao hurried to open the door for Dr. Pei. The doctor frowned the moment she stepped inside. “Such a strong smell… no, it’s two different pheromones.” She gave Yu Zhouyao a look full of meaning. “You, forget it.” Dr. Pei swallowed whatever she was about to say.
Yu Zhouyao knew exactly what she was thinking. She lowered her gaze, feeling a strange sense of embarrassment like a “bad kid” caught by a parent after eloping with a wealthy heiress.
First, I’m not a bad kid; I’m a law-abiding good kid. Second, we were definitely not ‘fooling around.’ Third, she really is a wealthy heiress, and you really are the parent figure.
Yu Zhouyao defended herself. “Dr. Pei, it was an emergency. I was forced to use this method.”
“Oh.”
Dr. Pei crouched by the bed, opening her medical kit to examine Mu Mingyue. After a thorough check and confirming her cousin was safe, she finally responded to Yu Zhouyao. “Mingyue is fine. Her condition is stable.” She raised an eyebrow and teased, “Aren’t you going to pull back your pheromones? This orange soda smells quite good.”
Yu Zhouyao’s ears turned red as she hurriedly withdrew her scent. Dr. Pei pulled the bed curtain shut and led Yu Zhouyao out of the resting area.
“Yu Zhouyao, shall we talk?”
Yu Zhouyao nodded. She had a stomach full of questions she wanted to ask the doctor as well.
