I Woke Up and Found Myself Married to the Dean - Chapter 6
Chapter 6: This is Truly a Sin!!
“Do you want to move back in?”
The sentence felt lodged in Wen Qingyan’s throat. Her reserve and bashfulness made it impossible for her to voice such a question.
Even though Si Nanyu stood there with her head hung in dejection, Wen Qingyan remained unmoved.
To her, Si Nanyu was unpredictable. On the few occasions she had let her heart soften, she had only given this person more opportunities to hurt her.
For instance, on the Friday before the street racing incident, Si Nanyu had used every sweet word and soft tactic imaginable to coax her way into Wen Qingyan’s room. Yet, during their intimacy, she had been dismissive and shirked her promises the moment Wen Qingyan tried to give her some gentle advice.
Nothing Wen Qingyan said had any impact on Si Nanyu; she went out to race the very next day.
Wen Qingyan was utterly disappointed in her, to the point where she didn’t even want to speak.
However, she didn’t believe for a second that Si Nanyu had truly lost her memory and reverted to being eighteen.
If that were true… then what did their ten years together even mean?
“Go wash up. Don’t wake up late tomorrow,” Wen Qingyan said, reining in her emotions. She spoke to Si Nanyu, who was still looking down, and then turned back to her room.
She didn’t lie down. Instead, she sat at her vanity, staring blankly. Her mind went empty.
She thought of nothing at all.
After a long while, she finally moved. She leaned down to pull a coded lockbox from the bottom shelf. She reached out and brushed her hand over it, a flicker of tenderness crossing her eyes.
But the tenderness didn’t last. Wen Qingyan’s pupils suddenly contracted as her gaze froze on her left ring finger.
Aside from the faint mark where a ring had once been, it was empty.
Her ring was gone!
Wen Qingyan put the lockbox back in its place and opened the door with hurried, disorganized steps. She wasn’t looking clearly and tumbled straight into a soft, slightly damp embrace.
“Wen… Teacher Wen!” Si Nanyu cried out in alarm, holding her hands out to either side of Wen Qingyan, not daring to touch her.
She waited until Wen Qingyan regained her balance before taking a step back. With a flushed face, she asked, “Teacher Wen, did you… leave this in the bathroom?”
Held in her hand was the ring Wen Qingyan had lost.
A plain platinum band, simple and elegant in design.
Wen Qingyan had worn it for years, and no one ever really asked if it was a wedding ring. But Si Nanyu raised her slightly reddened face, her eyes bright as she asked: “Is this… a wedding ring?”
Wen Qingyan’s face darkened. Just as she was about to snap that Si Nanyu was a great actress, she heard her mutter another question: “Then where is mine?”
It was like pouring gasoline on a fire.
Wen Qingyan practically snatched the ring back, her voice as cold as ice: “How should I know where you hid your ring?”
Hid… where??
Si Nanyu looked down at her own ring finger. Indeed…
It was clean, with no marks at all. It didn’t look like she had ever worn a ring, unlike Wen Qingyan.
She looked up to check Wen Qingyan’s hand again, but Wen Qingyan shut the door ruthlessly.
Si Nanyu stood at the door without moving, covering her face with both hands. She cursed inwardly: This is truly a sin!!
What on earth was twenty-eight-year-old Si Nanyu doing???!!!
Si Nanyu returned to her room with her face half-covered.
When Wen Qingyan had opened the door just now, Si Nanyu had caught a glimpse of the interior. She realized this room was barely half the size of the other it was a guest room.
And it was a mess. It was filled with all sorts of things, most of which seemed useless.
Si Nanyu wasn’t a total neat freak, but such a chaotic environment made her uncomfortable.
Especially… since she lived under the same roof as Wen Qingyan, how could she be so careless!
Once again, Si Nanyu felt a wave of disdain for her twenty-eight-year-old self and threw herself into tidying up.
Given her personality, cleaning shouldn’t have taken long, but she didn’t expect to be constantly distracted by novel items.
There were figurines, models, and a fair amount of electronics and musical instruments.
Si Nanyu did love these things, but in her mind, her eighteen-year-old self could be recklessly obsessed, while her twenty-eight-year-old self should be working hard at life. She was a person who had plans…
She wouldn’t allow herself to waste her ambition on toys.
Yet, the half-room of “toys” made her feel utterly ashamed.
Suddenly, Wen Qingyan’s cold voice drifted from the doorway: “Si Nanyu, stop playing. You have to work tomorrow.”
Wen Qingyan walked away immediately after saying it. By the time Si Nanyu realized and opened the door to ask what kind of work she did, it was already too late.
Wen Qingyan’s door was shut tight. Si Nanyu didn’t dare knock.
After hesitating for a long time, she returned to her room. She stopped tidying and went to sleep with a heart full of trepidation.
That night, she dreamed again. The person in her dream was still Wen Qingyan.
But Wen Qingyan wasn’t the familiar yet strange woman she was now. She was the version of Wen Qingyan from right after Si Nanyu had composed that confession text.
To Si Nanyu’s shock, Wen Qingyan rejected her confession and blocked her on WeChat!!!!
Si Nanyu woke up drenched in sweat. She looked around blankly, wishing she could return to the moment right after the college entrance exams. She wanted to keep pursuing Wen Qingyan…!
She ducked her head back under the covers.
It isn’t easy to fall back asleep after a fright, and Si Nanyu was no exception. She tossed and turned until she heard Wen Qingyan arrive.
“Si Nanyu, get up and eat breakfast.”
The sound of high heels was pleasant, and Wen Qingyan’s voice was a bit warmer than the night before.
It was enough to bring Si Nanyu back to her senses.
Even if she went back to the dream… she probably wouldn’t continue pursuing Wen Qingyan.
Because she was a coward!
She had only dared to write that confession text because she was drunk. If Wen Qingyan had rejected her, she wouldn’t have dared to… harass her further.
Even now, Si Nanyu was dying of curiosity. Did Wen Qingyan really reject her like in the dream? If she did, how did they end up together?
The unknown made her lose her composure again.
After a quick wash, Si Nanyu saw several takeout boxes on the table and Wen Qingyan, who had almost finished eating. She asked in a low voice: “Teacher Wen, about my text, did you rec—”
Wen Qingyan didn’t catch what she said; she was busy sending a voice message on WeChat: “Teacher Yang, Si Nanyu has recovered. I’ve sent her the new curriculum schedule.”
Si Nanyu: “!”
A curriculum schedule???
Am I still in school??!
With this interruption, the question about the text was swallowed back down. Si Nanyu’s mind shifted entirely to the schedule.
Wen Qingyan put on her coat and waited while Si Nanyu struggled with her pumpkin porridge.
Taking one last large gulp, Si Nanyu tidied up the trash and jogged to Wen Qingyan’s side.
Dressed in a white shirt and black trousers with a ponytail, Si Nanyu looked very refreshed. Except for her outer coat, she looked almost exactly like Wen Qingyan.
But seeing her like this made Wen Qingyan frown. She asked reflexively, “Don’t you hate this outfit the most?”
“Me? Hate it? Why would I… I like it very much.” Si Nanyu looked at herself and then at Wen Qingyan.
The first benefit twenty-eight-year-old life had given her was this: wearing a professional suit similar to Wen Qingyan’s finally didn’t look like a child playing dress-up in an adult’s clothes.
So, she refuted the claim and gave Wen Qingyan a sweet smile.
Wen Qingyan was dazed by the smile and stopped obsessing over whether she hated or liked the clothes.
“Let’s go. You’re coming to work with me today.”
“After work, we’ll go pick up your car.”
Si Nanyu now knew what the car looked like and she truly liked it. However, seeing Wen Qingyan’s displeased expression when mentioning it, she didn’t dare ask any questions about the vehicle. She just followed silently.
Once they stepped off the elevator, she finally worked up the courage to ask: “Teacher Wen, I… what is my job right now?”
Wen Qingyan glanced at her. “Music teacher.” Then she opened the car door and gestured for Si Nanyu to get in.
Si Nanyu didn’t move. She wore a look of utter shock.
Shocked that… she would actually be a teacher.
However, Wen Qingyan, having reached the limit of her morning impatience, let out a cold laugh.
Si Nanyu looked over, feeling a sting of embarrassment at that look of disbelief.
She was powerless to explain; Wen Qingyan simply wouldn’t believe anything she said.
Even though the reality was hard for her to accept, the way Wen Qingyan looked at her still made her feel very hurt.
Her eyes felt stung. Not wanting Wen Qingyan to see her like this, she squeezed her eyes shut tightly and then moved to the other side to get into the car.
Wen Qingyan didn’t even look at her; she had already gotten into the driver’s side.
And then…
She saw Si Nanyu standing by the passenger door like she was being punished, her head down and her face red…
Lowering the window, Wen Qingyan adjusted her glasses and asked with a smirk, “What kind of trouble are you causing now?”
“I’m not causing trouble.”
Si Nanyu spoke softly, her voice carrying a hint of annoyance. Wen Qingyan knew her well; she knew Si Nanyu rarely spoke to her like this lately usually, their interactions were explosive.
So, she asked again with more patience: “Then what’s wrong?”
The gentle tone made Si Nanyu’s face turn as red as an apple. With her hands behind her back, she struggled for a long time before blaring out: “I… I… I… I can’t find where the door handle is!”
