I Woke Up and Found Myself Married to the Dean - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: We Sleep Separately Now
Because she had to handle Si Nanyu’s discharge procedures, Wen Qingyan had taken a half-day leave. Her classes were in the afternoon. Having skipped lunch, she grabbed a strawberry pie from her desk after class to stave off hunger.
She had only taken two bites when Si Nanyu’s call came through.
Staring at the familiar contact, Wen Qingyan froze for a moment.
Unless dealing with strangers, people usually preferred WeChat calls nowadays; Si Nanyu hadn’t called her actual mobile number in a very long time.
Wen Qingyan set down the strawberry pie, cleared her throat, and answered: “Hello? What is it?”
Her voice still carried a hint of exhaustion. On the other end, Si Nanyu specifically lowered her volume: “Wen… um!” Unable to settle on a title, she paused.
Wen Qingyan ignored the hesitation and said coldly: “Just tell me what’s wrong. I have to get to class.”
“Oh… okay!”
“It’s like this—someone just called me about something called a ‘Wind Forest Iron Cavalry.’ What is that?” Si Nanyu asked cautiously. Wen Qingyan couldn’t help but frown, her voice turning even colder as she interrogated: “Did you buy another vehicle?”
“A vehicle? Is it a car… the name sounds pretty cool…” Si Nanyu mumbled softly. Wen Qingyan didn’t have time for this and immediately asked: “Is there anything else? If not, we’ll talk when I get home.”
“Okay, okay, you go ahead with your work then.”
Si Nanyu complied obediently. After Wen Qingyan hung up, she opened her phone to search for “Wind Forest Iron Cavalry.”
The phone had many more functions than she remembered, requiring some tinkering. Fortunately, most operations were just more complex versions of what she knew. She quickly found the Wind Forest Iron Cavalry…
It was exactly her style so cool!
But as for the price… Si Nanyu’s eyes widened.
Her first thought was: Am I really this rich?
She then followed the prompts to download an app and entered her phone number. Her order information popped up instantly.
Tank 300 – Wind Forest Iron Cavalry Edition – Avocado Green.
Si Nanyu had to admit that the model and color were… exactly what she liked!
However, the price was quite steep for her.
But she truly loved it. After mulling it over for more than an hour—during which the dealership called again and she ignored it—she realized she didn’t even know how to pick it up. She hadn’t even passed her driver’s license test yet…
Phone apps were addictive. Si Nanyu scrolled through and downloaded Douyin, losing herself in short videos.
She scrolled until she lost track of time, until the sky turned dark…
Only when the beep-beep of the door lock sounded did Si Nanyu sit up from the sofa, smoothing her clothes and hiding her phone behind her back.
The person returning was, naturally, Wen Qingyan. Both her hands were full: her bag was slung over her shoulder, her left hand held the takeout left at the door, and her right hand… was holding a leash for a milky-white dog.
It was a Labrador, pressing affectionately against Wen Qingyan’s leg, looking very well-behaved.
Except toward Si Nanyu. Upon seeing her, the dog hid behind Wen Qingyan.
This didn’t stop Si Nanyu from being fascinated. She blinked, stepping forward to take the takeout from Wen Qingyan and hoping to pet the dog at the same time.
Unexpectedly, Wen Qingyan’s left hand moved away, and the dog on her right dodged too.
Si Nanyu’s hands froze in mid-air. The scene was more than a little awkward.
She stammered, unable to find words, and lowered her head dejectedly, feeling like she was a terrible person.
The dog was so good, yet it feared her and didn’t want to be near her.
Watching this, Wen Qingyan only thought she was being dramatic. She handed over the takeout expressionlessly: “I bought this for you, and you didn’t even know to eat.”
“You bought a dog and don’t even know how to raise it.”
The dog wasn’t fully grown yet; it was tall but looked a bit thin. It was very smart, seemingly understanding Wen Qingyan’s words, as it wagged its tail low twice in a slight show of dissatisfaction.
Then, it followed Wen Qingyan, trotting happily after her.
It knew Wen Qingyan was about to feed it, looking lively and cute.
Wen Qingyan looked at Si Nanyu while reaching for some dried chicken. Seeing her slowly open the takeout box and pull out chopsticks to eat…
She gave a soft reminder: “Don’t you know to heat it up?”
“Ah! I know, I know. I was just looking…”
“Shredded pork with garlic sauce over rice.”
“Even though you can eat it cold, it’s better to heat it. The weather lately…” Wen Qingyan found herself saying more than intended. Mid-sentence, she noticed it herself, stopped talking, and looked down to pull out more chicken jerky.
The rice was heated. Si Nanyu sat at the dining table, looking around and taking a bite every now and then.
Both the human and the dog grew frustrated with her staring and turned to look at her. The dog couldn’t speak, but its expression was enough to convey its confusion.
Wen Qingyan asked directly: “Is there something else?”
Si Nanyu beamed and pointed at the dog by Wen Qingyan’s feet: “I… I want to know… what’s its name?”
“Paigu (Spare Ribs).”
“What…?”
“Paigu. Did you not hear me clearly?”
“I heard you!”
Wen Qingyan didn’t respond further. She finished giving the chicken jerky to Paigu, clapped her hands clean, took her bag back to the bedroom, and grabbed a change of clothes to shower.
Paigu enjoyed the chicken jerky immensely. Si Nanyu was starving, too; having finished her questions and seeing Wen Qingyan retreat to the bedroom, she lowered her head to focus on her meal.
The more she ate…
The more she craved the taste of actual spare ribs.
She loved spare ribs—sweet and sour, braised, garlic-style…
So, the dog’s name was most likely her idea!
“Paigu!”
After finishing her rice, Si Nanyu called out to the dog.
Paigu hadn’t finished eating yet. He glanced at her and went right back to his food…
Completely ignoring her existence, his large body even shrinking back a bit.
Si Nanyu comforted herself: Paigu is just busy with the chicken. Once he’s done, he’ll definitely… acknowledge me!
But when Paigu finished the chicken and Si Nanyu had already packed up the takeout box, he still didn’t come over.
Si Nanyu had no choice but to go to him uninvited. Paigu glanced at her again, then wagged his tail and went to find Wen Qingyan.
Labradors were supposed to be friendly, but she didn’t know what was up with this one…
Because when Wen Qingyan walked out drying her hair, Paigu’s eyes lit up, and he tried to pounce on her.
“Paigu, no!” Wen Qingyan warned in a low voice. Paigu sat down by her feet, looking quite reluctant…
With Wen Qingyan out, Si Nanyu felt out of place again. Her gaze shifted from Paigu to Wen Qingyan’s feet, then slowly moved upward.
At home and fresh out of the shower, Wen Qingyan was naturally no longer in her professional attire. She had changed into a lotus-root-colored camisole nightgown—modest, loose, and comfortable.
However, her collarbones were prominent, and her semi-long, slightly curly hair was still damp, with a few strands resting on her skin.
As if sensing nothing, she handed a nightgown to Si Nanyu: “Go shower.”
“…Oh.” Si Nanyu replied with a red face, picking up her own nightgown to inspect it.
She thought Wen Qingyan’s nightgown was very pretty and looked comfortable, assuming hers would be similar. She didn’t expect…
The one Wen Qingyan handed her had straps much thinner than the other’s, the hem was extremely short with lace trim… and the neckline was… very low.
OMG, it was a bit revealing.
Si Nanyu was well aware of her own “assets.” She didn’t believe her twenty-eight-year-old self could be much bigger than her eighteen-year-old self.
She looked down. Indeed…
It was only a tiny bit bigger, a B-cup at the absolute most.
So what was the point of wearing a low-cut nightgown???
How scandalous!!
“What are you doing? Go shower.” Seeing her face turning red and then looking like she was muttering a curse, Wen Qingyan frowned with a hint of impatience: “Hurry up.”
“Oh, oh, oh… I’m going.” Si Nanyu responded instinctively, clutching the nightgown and running with her head down. After a few steps, Wen Qingyan’s voice rang out again: “Come back. What are you going to the kitchen for?”
Si Nanyu looked up at the range hood right in front of her, then turned around, looking at Wen Qingyan innocently.
Wen Qingyan sighed and pointed to the opposite direction: “There. The bathroom.”
Since Wen Qingyan had just showered, the bathroom was still steamy and warm. Si Nanyu stripped quickly and started washing.
Staying in the hospital for a night had made her feel grimy all over, so she took her time. Once finished, she hesitated over the nightgown…
In the end, she put it on with a flaming face.
When she stepped out, Wen Qingyan was idly watching a drama. Paigu had returned to his little bed to sleep; he glanced at her upon hearing the noise and then closed his eyes again.
Wen Qingyan, however, turned to look at her.
But she didn’t give her a chance to speak. Turning off the TV, she said: “We’ll pick up the car tomorrow. Go to sleep early…”
“You sleep over there.”
Wen Qingyan pointed to a room diagonally across from the master bedroom she was about to enter. She spoke calmly and started toward the master suite.
At that moment, Si Nanyu’s weak voice drifted over: “Wen…”
She turned and saw Si Nanyu covering her chest, asking with extreme bashfulness: “Do we… not sleep together?”
“No. We sleep separately now.”
