I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 9
It was the second day of work, and already, it was time for overtime.
Although Ye Nanning was mentally prepared for it, it was hard to happily accept a sudden increase in tasks right when it was time to clock out.
It was like the Foolish Old Man who moved the mountains: just as he thought he was about to finish, he was told that he had only moved one small hill, and there was an entire forest of mountains still waiting.
“Xiao Ye, are you still working on your model?” Xu Huan asked.
“Yes.”
“That’s good, but the main priority is still compiling the materials; those are urgently needed right now,” Xu Huan said.
“Yes.”
Xu Huan couldn’t resist turning her head to peer at the screen. A few minutes later, she exclaimed in surprise, “You’ve already organized this much?”
“Yes.”
Xu Huan now believed that her “yes” wasn’t just a perfunctory reply, but a sign that she was diligently working. She felt a sudden surge of motivation she absolutely couldn’t lose to an intern.
While the company’s organizational structure was clear, one couldn’t rely on being one rank higher to look down on others. Here, promotions were common, and one could easily be surpassed by a rising star.
Xu Huan had steadily worked her way up, starting as an intern, becoming an analyst for two or three years, and then getting promoted to Assistant. If she performed well, she would soon be promoted to VP.
After work hours, only a few VPs left on time; the rest of the office area remained virtually untouched.
“Huan Huan, hurry up and get promoted to VP! That way, you’ll have freedom to come and go,” a colleague lamented.
“How is that possible? The freer the time, the less free time you actually have, don’t you understand?” Xu Huan said sagely.
Ye Nanning nodded in deep agreement. Take Ye Yiyun, for example; he barely needed to clock in every day, yet he had almost no time for himself.
She glanced toward Du Xiran’s office. Du Xiran was on the phone with a client again, simultaneously taking notes at her hand, looking completely poised.
Amazing! She wanted to become a person like that too!
A moment later, a notification popped up in the work group chat.
Meeting.
Everyone quickly put down their work, grabbing their notebooks and chairs, and orderly headed toward the office. Ye Nanning once again stood by the door to listen in.
“We just finalized a deal, an acquisition case,” Du Xiran said concisely. “Lao Wang, Xu Huan, you two have followed many acquisition cases before, so you’ll be responsible for this one as well. The client will send the materials later, and I’ll forward them to you.”
Lao Wang and Xu Huan nodded.
“Also, there’s another asset restructuring client we’re in talks with. Xiao Chen and Fang Fang can get ready, see what else you have on your hands, and quickly finish it up.”
Xiao Chen and Fang Fang also nodded.
Du Xiran assigned tasks to everyone, then suddenly looked toward Ye Nanning by the door.
Ye Nanning immediately stood straighter, looking at her attentively.
“Ye Nanning needs to compile the IPO cases and also do the modeling for you all. She probably won’t have enough time and energy to follow Xu Huan’s acquisition case. Xu Huan, check later to see which analyst in the group has ample time. Everyone needs to cooperate with each other.”
Xu Huan agreed, “Will do.”
“Alright, everyone hurry up and get busy. Try to leave work early,” Du Xiran let out a long sigh of relief.
Colleagues left one after another. Ye Nanning was the last one. Seeing Du Xiran resting her head on her hand and rubbing her temples, she thought for a moment and said, “You should rest well.”
She hadn’t even taken a nap during lunchtime.
“Mmm…” Du Xiran tiredly put her hand down, taking a sip of coffee to refresh herself. “It’s not time to rest yet.”
After nine o’clock, everyone gradually left.
Ye Nanning felt she had completed most of her tasks for the day. Only Xu Huan was left in their small group, frantically flipping through documents. She proactively asked, “Do you need any help?”
“It’s okay. These are acquisition materials. You don’t need to deal with these. Just focus on doing a good job with the IPO project.” Xu Huan was busy and didn’t have time to pay attention to her after answering.
Ye Nanling quietly packed up her belongings, pushed her chair in, passed behind Xu Huan, and prepared to leave.
“Oh, what a coincidence. Heading back?” Du Xiran walked out of her office.
Ye Nanning nodded, looking intently at her.
“Let’s go, let’s go down together.” Du Xiran walked over and tapped Xu Huan’s desk. “Don’t overwork yourself finish up early and go home.”
“Don’t worry,” Xu Huan said without lifting her head.
Ye Nanning eagerly trailed behind Du Xiran. Once they entered the elevator, Ye Nanning proactively pressed the button.
A moment later, Du Xiran stood at the elevator entrance, looking at the dense array of cars. “Did you press B1?”
Ye Nanning nodded.
“That’s very thoughtful, but I’m not driving home today,” Du Xiran said.
“?”
“I’m a bit tired and don’t feel like driving. I called a cab.”
Ye Nanning quickly pressed the button to return the elevator to the first floor.
With the onset of autumn, the temperature difference between day and night was quite noticeable.
The two walked out of the warm building, and a gust of wind blew directly at them, making their hair fly wildly.
“My car is here. You should also go home early,” Du Xiran pressed down on her hair, opened the car door, and got into the back seat.
“Okay.”
The car drove off a dozen meters. Du Xiran looked into the rearview mirror and saw Ye Nanning standing still, rubbing her arms, constantly trying to tidy her hair, looking flustered.
Ye Nanning checked the weather; the temperature was dropping these two days, no wonder it was suddenly so cold.
She opened her ride hailing app, and a car stopped right in front of her. The window rolled down, revealing Du Xiran’s face.
Ye Nanning: ?
“Hurry up and get in.”
Ye Nanning: !!
Inside the car, the atmosphere was very quiet.
Du Xiran leaned against the seat back without saying a word.
Ye Nanning was extremely nervous, sitting up straight. Her heart felt like a pot of boiling oil, gurgling and bubbling, ready to splash out at any moment.
She stared out the window for a while, then slowly, slowly, turned her head. She saw that Du Xiran had closed her eyes and was sleeping. Only then did she dare to openly and carefully look at her face.
The car window blocked out the noise from outside. The fleeting light from the neon signs swept across her face, like a moment suspended in a dream, wonderfully unreal.
Driven by an impulse, Ye Nanning took out her phone, found the right angle, and waited for the light to appear. The moment it did, she pressed the shutter.
Click..
Du Xiran opened her eyes, and their eyes met.
Ye Nanning: !!!
Oh no, oh no! What should I do now? Throw the phone away, or should I jump out of the car myself?!
