I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 46
Du Xiran’s brain stopped functioning for a split second as she stared blankly at the person inside the car.
Ye Nanning said, “Manager Du, get in the car! Aren’t you in a hurry?”
Du Xiran asked in a daze, “Why are you sitting inside the car?”
Ye Nanning: “Where else should I be?”
Du Xiran: “Under the car.”
Ye Nanning: “…”
Du Xiran walked to the car door and pinched Ye Nanning’s cheek. The realistic sensation snapped her back to reality. “I’m not dreaming?”
Ye Nanning’s face was being pinched out of shape as she mumbled, “It’s not a dream. It’s broad daylight.”
Du Xiran touched the car door. “This car isn’t a replica, is it?”
Ye Nanning: “…No. Manager Du, please get in.”
Du Xiran climbed into the car as if walking through a fog, even forgetting to buckle her seatbelt. Just as she turned around to interrogate her, the other girl leaned over to help her fasten it, appearing well-accustomed to the action. “Manager Du, you always seem to forget your seatbelt.”
“Did I forget? I just didn’t have time yet,” Du Xiran retorted subconsciously. She grabbed the seatbelt with both hands and continued to stare blankly. “Whose car is this?”
“Mine.”
“Where did you get the money to buy a car?”
Ye Nanning replied, “It was my eighteenth birthday present.”
Du Xiran took two deep breaths and looked around the interior. She found it hard to believe that this luxury car, the car of her dreams, actually belonged to Ye Nanning.
But if it wasn’t hers, how could she be driving it away?
“Is it a friend’s car?” Du Xiran asked, refusing to believe it. “Or did you rent a luxury car because you wanted to experience the life of a rich woman for a day?”
Ye Nanning whispered, “This car really is mine.”
Du Xiran looked at her with half-suspicion. “Quick fire round: what’s the license plate number?”
Ye Nanning answered instantly. No matter how hard it was to believe, Du Xiran had to accept the truth.
The car stopped at a red light. Ye Nanning turned to look at the silent Du Xiran and spoke cautiously, “Manager Du, are you okay…?”
“What do you think?” Du Xiran opened her eyes and looked at her sideways. She remembered the first time she saw this car in the parking garage, it was indeed the day Ye Nanning moved in. It usually sat idle in the garage because the owner was taking her own car to work.
“Are you really a ‘rich second generation’?” Du Xiran asked.
Ye Nanning nodded slightly but felt the term “rich second generation” might sound a bit negative, so she tried to phrase it differently: “My family just has a bit of money, it doesn’t have much to do with me.”
“So you wanted to rely on yourself and start from scratch as an intern?” Du Xiran asked again.
Ye Nanning nodded.
“You really are naive,” Du Xiran laughed. “You’ve probably been poisoned by too many novels and TV dramas. If you have existing resources, why not use them? If you spent the time you waste at the company on effective resource integration, you would have created self-value long ago.”
Ye Nanning nodded and whispered, “You’re right, but… my family situation is different. I don’t want to rely on family resources to create value.”
Du Xiran asked curiously, “Then what does your family do?”
Ye Nanning drove in silence, thinking about how to explain her family situation. She struggled for a long time. Seeing the minutes tick by and fearing Du Xiran might be angry, she blurted out, “I…”
“If you don’t want to say, then don’t. It’s okay. I was just asking casually; I’m not trying to ‘cling to your golden thigh,'” Du Xiran said.
Ye Nanning bit her lip. “No, it’s just that my family situation is complicated. I’ll tell you later… okay?”
“Okay.” Du Xiran turned to look out the window and suddenly chuckled. “What a mess… why did you pretend to be a poor student?”
“I just wanted to be low-key,” Ye Nanning said.
Du Xiran wanted to say there was no need to be that low-key, but then she realized that if Ye Nanning had shown up to the office in a Maserati on day one, it would have attracted everyone’s attention. Even the way people looked at her, as a manager, would be different. It would have been restrictive and high-pressure.
“Mm, you were right to consider that. Do you plan to keep up the disguise?” Du Xiran asked.
Ye Nanning nodded slowly. “If possible…”
“Fine, I’ll keep your secret,” Du Xiran said. They arrived at the airport. She got out and grabbed her luggage, waving to Ye Nanning. After a few steps, she suddenly thought of something and turned back to the girl still waiting there. She asked loudly, “Ye Nanning, since you wanted to hide this, why did you tell me?”
She had practically gone out of her way to let her know, as if she were terrified Du Xiran would think she was a pauper.
Ye Nanning just looked at her and waved. She struggled to organize her thoughts, but by the time she found the words, Du Xiran had already hurried into the airport.
Ye Nanning: “…”
Sigh, how should I answer that? She decided to use the time while Manager Du was on her business trip to think of a good answer.
Twenty minutes before boarding, Du Xiran found a seat and quickly called Zhang Mishuang.
“Hello! Are you there? Are you there!”
“I’m here. What’s the rush?” Zhang Mishuang asked. “Are you calling about the bags? I was about to tell you, none of them want them; they’re afraid they’re fakes.”
“Forget that for now, I have big news!” Du Xiran said.
“What is it?”
Du Xiran started playing mysterious. “Guess.”
“Just tell me!” Zhang Mishuang yelled.
“Fine, fine, look how impatient you are,” Du Xiran said leisurely. “Do you know Ye Nanning’s real identity?”
Zhang Mishuang: “Isn’t she your intern and neighbor?”
“More than that. She has another identity,” Du Xiran said slowly.
Zhang Mishuang: “What identity? Is she actually an alien? Or a time traveler from the future?”
Defeated by her friend’s imagination, Du Xiran told the truth: “She’s actually a rich second generation.”
“Oh my god, are you kidding me?” Zhang Mishuang asked.
“Surprised? I was too.” Du Xiran felt a sense of balance knowing someone else found it hard to believe.
“Actually, if what you’re saying is true, it’s not that surprising,” Zhang Mishuang said.
Du Xiran: “What? You’re not surprised?”
“Yeah. Haven’t you noticed that Xiao Ye has a very calm aura? Her temperament is very elegant; she doesn’t look like someone who worries about food or clothes,” Zhang Mishuang explained.
Du Xiran thought back to Ye Nanning’s behavior. She hadn’t noticed before, but now that she knew, the signs were all there. From the inside out, she radiated a vibe of “I will never bow for five bushels of rice.”
“But which family is she from? What industry are her parents in?” Zhang Mishuang asked.
“I don’t know, she didn’t say.”
“Maybe she has some difficulties. Every family has its own problems, and they say wealthy families have the most drama,” Zhang Mishuang speculated.
Du Xiran felt the same way. When she asked that question in the car, Ye Nanning had gone silent for a long time, so she didn’t push. As for the question before they parted, it was better not to go back and pry, lest it cause more issues. Since the girl had told her this much, it showed trust. There was no need to get to the bottom of everything. She would just act as if nothing happened and continue their usual work relationship.
After meeting the client and finalizing the cooperation, it was late, so Du Xiran stayed at a local hotel. Before bed, she couldn’t resist chatting with that blogger again:
Grandpa Under the Tree: [What’s up? OvO]
Dududu: [Remember that ‘poor’ intern I mentioned? She’s not poor at all. She’s a rich second generation experiencing life at the grassroots level!]
Grandpa Under the Tree: [Wow! Are you angry?]
Dududu: [Why would I be angry?]
Grandpa Under the Tree: [Didn’t she deceive you?]
Dududu: […]
Dududu: [You’re right! You reminded me, I should be angry.]
Ye Nanning: !!!
Help! What am I doing? Am I reminding Manager Du to stab me?
Grandpa Under the Tree: [If you’re not angry, then you don’t have to be. Don’t let it upset you]
Dududu: [And do you know how I found out?]
Grandpa Under the Tree: [How?]
Dududu: [She took the initiative to reveal it. The first time I didn’t believe her, she gave me a bag (honestly, she has good taste). The second time I didn’t believe her, she hired a top-tier housekeeper to clean my place. I still didn’t believe it. Until… she drove out that Maserati… my dream car!]
Grandpa Under the Tree: [You really like that car?]
Dududu: [I didn’t think I liked it that much before, but seeing it parked there every day when I go to work… the more I look at it, the more beautiful it gets. It’s a real little ‘car spirit’ seducing me.]
Ye Nanning smiled and wanted to keep chatting, but the other side said she needed to rest for an early flight.
Ye Nanning immediately messaged her on WeChat: [Manager Du, what time is your flight tomorrow? I’ll come pick you up.]
Du Xiran yawned and sent her the time.
The next day, Ye Nanning got up, made breakfast, called Du Heruo over to eat, and then hurried off to pick up Du Xiran.
Du Xiran carried her luggage to the waiting area, and the “seductive” car pulled up in front of her.
“Manager Du, good morning,” Ye Nanning got out to greet her.
“Morning…” Du Xiran responded absentmindedly, her eyes glued to the car.
“Let’s go. We can make it back in time for lunch,” Ye Nanning said.
Du Xiran put her luggage away and sat in the car. The feeling was completely different from yesterday. Yesterday, she was in shock, she hadn’t had time to appreciate the beauty of the luxury vehicle.
Now, she closed her eyes and savored the experience.
“Manager Du, about the answer to why I told you about this last time, I…”
“No need to answer. I don’t really want to know anymore.” Du Xiran didn’t want to make it difficult for her. Since she hadn’t answered then, it clearly wasn’t a simple question.
Ye Nanning looked at her in surprise. Seeing her with her eyes closed as if she didn’t want to listen, Ye Nanning worried she was still angry about the deception.
At an intersection, Ye Nanning took a turn and found a place to pull over.
Du Xiran opened her eyes in confusion. “Where are we? Why did we stop? Are you planning to silence the witness who knows your secret?”
“…”
“Manager Du, do you want to drive this car?” Ye Nanning asked timidly.
Du Xiran snapped her eyes toward her. “Me? Drive?”
“Um…” Realizing something, Ye Nanning waved her hands. “I’m not ordering you or treating you like a chauffeur, I just…”
“Sure!” Du Xiran agreed readily. Eagerly, she swapped seats with her and tried to act calm while driving the car of her dreams.
Seventy miles an hour, my mood is freaking high!
This is the feeling of freedom!
Seeing her in high spirits, Ye Nanning felt relieved. She asked, “Manager Du, are you still angry?”
“Angry about what?” Du Xiran said heartily while driving. “What’s there to be angry about? You didn’t lie on purpose, and didn’t you come clean to me?”
Ye Nanning noticed she was easy to talk to right now and pushed her luck: “Then, Manager Du, what do you think of me?”
“Excellent.”
“How is my cooking?”
“Excellent.”
“How is my work?”
“Excellent.”
“How about I be your…?”
“Excellent… Huh? What did you just say?”
Ye Nanning withdrew her gaze, thinking that was close. She almost said it. She paused and said, “Take a guess.”
“I don’t have time for guessing, I’m busy.” Du Xiran drove happily. “Can the top be opened?”
“Yes.” Ye Nanning pressed a switch, the roof retracted, and the wind rushed in.
Though it was cold, Du Xiran was truly enjoying herself. However, seeing the girl beside her shivering and pulling her clothes tight, she closed the roof again.
Back at the neighborhood, Du Xiran parked carefully. Seeing this, Ye Nanning asked, “Manager Du, do you like this car?”
“Cough, it’s okay,” Du Xiran said.
“Then how about I give it to you?”
Du Xiran finished parking, unbuckled her seatbelt, turned to look at her, and then picked up her bag to playfully hit her. “Do you just have too much money and nothing to do with it?”
Ye Nanning shielded her head with her hands and laughed out loud.
