I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 32
Once everyone had arrived and gathered, they gradually prepared to head home.
Du Xiran dropped off two other colleagues at their buildings before heading toward her own neighborhood. With only the two of them left in the car, Du Xiran glanced at Ye Nanning in the passenger seat, curious. “Where did you learn to play bowling and snooker?”
Ye Nanning knew this question was coming and was well-prepared. “I used to work at a club,” she replied.
In reality, she had been a member of the club. VIPs had exclusive areas where they didn’t have to play with others, allowing her to practice for long periods. Ball sports were her favorite way to relax.
“I see,” Du Xiran said. “Are there any other sports you’re good at?”
“Badminton, table tennis, golf…” Ye Nanning listed.
“You even know golf? Just how many part-time jobs did you have?” Du Xiran pondered for a moment. “If I sent Du Heruo to work now, would she become as excellent as you?”
Being praised made Ye Nanning beam inwardly. She waved it off and said seriously, “No, no, she’s still in her senior year of high school. She shouldn’t be working.”
Du Xiran smiled. “Ye Nanning, sometimes you seem so sharp, and other times you’re exceptionally innocent.”
Knowing she was being teased again, Ye Nanning muttered, “Does that mean I’m very stupid?”
“Not at all. It’s cute,” Du Xiran said.
“Really?” Ye Nanning turned her head to look at her.
“Of course it’s true. Cute people are likable,” Du Xiran replied.
The words slipped out of Ye Nanning’s mouth: “Then, do you like me?”
Du Xiran turned the steering wheel, her eyes fixed on the side mirror. Just when Ye Nanning thought she wouldn’t answer, she heard her say with a hint of a smile, “I do. Who wouldn’t like you?”
Ye Nanning clenched her fists secretly and couldn’t help but stomp her feet slightly, making a bit of noise in the car.
“What are you doing?” Du Xiran asked, eyes ahead.
“I’m a bit excited.” Ye Nanning sheepishly withdrew her feet, standing on her tiptoes and quietly rubbing them against the floor.
Du Xiran’s lips curled into a smile. “Are you that happy to hear your boss say she likes you?”
Ye Nanning: “Yeah. I wish I could hear it every day, every hour.”
“Don’t think that because I say I like you now, I’ll give you a bigger bonus later,” Du Xiran said with iron-faced professionalism, though the smile remained on her face.
Aside from a fixed monthly salary, the analysts received bonuses determined by their supervisors.
Ye Nanning: “Mm-hmm, President Du, you can give me whatever you want.”
Du Xiran laughed out loud. “Then I won’t give you anything, I’ll withhold it for myself.”
Ye Nanning said generously, “That’s fine.”
Du Xiran: “Really? It’s okay if I keep the money?”
Ye Nanning: “Mm-hmm. Keep it there and save it as a ‘wife fund’ (bridal dowry).”
Du Xiran: “Huh? A wife fund?”
Ye Nanning quickly covered her mouth, then corrected herself with a look of feigned shock: “That was a slip of the tongue.”
Du Xiran laughed heartily. “Alright, I know you meant your dowry. You’re quite the planner, little girl, starting to save for your dowry so early. By the way, does the person you like know you like them yet?”
Ye Nanning shook her head. “Not yet.”
“Why? Haven’t you confessed yet?”
“No, I don’t dare to.”
“What’s there to be afraid of?” Du Xiran said. “You’re so excellent. Being liked by you is a blessing for them.”
Ye Nanning thought to herself: Do you want this blessing?
The car entered the neighborhood and stopped in the downstairs parking lot. After getting out, Du Xiran was distracted by a Maserati in the opposite parking space. “Huh? Whose is that? I haven’t seen it here before.”
Ye Nanning’s heart skipped a beat. She walked ahead in silence, trying to minimize her presence.
After her brief confusion, Du Xiran noticed Ye Nanning had walked quite far ahead. Thinking she was still immersed in the previous question, Du Xiran caught up and said, “Don’t think too lowly of yourself. If they don’t like you, it’s because they have no taste. You can just find someone else.”
Ye Nanning shook her head and looked at her. “No, I only want her.”
Du Xiran said helplessly, “This is why you young girls are too naive. Love can’t put food on the table. Don’t yearn for a fairytale love too much, and don’t bet everything on another person.”
“I know,” Ye Nanning said.
That’s why I’m working hard, so you’ll notice me.
As they entered the elevator, Du Xiran couldn’t help but ask one more question: “Is that person your classmate?”
Ye Nanning shook her head and suddenly looked at her. “Stop talking about me. What about you, President Du? Is there someone you like?”
“Me?” Du Xiran put a hand in her pocket and said coolly, “No.”
“Then what kind of person do you like?” Ye Nanning finally found the chance to ask!
“What kind?” Du Xiran thought seriously and said nonchalantly, “I don’t know.”
Ye Nanning: “You don’t know what kind you like?”
“Isn’t that normal? Even if I listed a bunch of criteria now, if I actually fall for someone, those rules become meaningless. After all, no one can 100% match a fantasy,” Du Xiran said.
“That makes sense.” Ye Nanning nodded, a sudden realization hitting her. Does this mean… gender isn’t a strict requirement either?!
Ye Nanning was instantly filled with confidence! She walked out of the elevator with a spring in her step.
“Goodnight, President Du. Sweet dreams!” Ye Nanning said.
“Yeah, goodnight.” Du Xiran opened her door. As she was about to close it, she saw Ye Nanning still standing at the opposite door and asked in confusion, “Why aren’t you going in yet?”
“Oh, I’m going in now.” Ye Nanning watched her enter her home before stepping into her own new place. She closed the door slowly, watching the other side, and only latched it once she saw the opposite door was fully closed.
What should I do! We just separated, and I already miss President Du!
So much happened tonight. Images of Du Xiran kept flashing through Ye Nanning’s mind, making her heart flutter.
“Help…” Ye Nanning ruffled her hair. She had thought being closer to President Du would make it easier to endure, but now things were even more out of control.
She was becoming greedy, she wanted to push for more.
The new rental still had many things to pack. She had sent her expensive clothes back to the Ye family home, leaving only her cheap clothes here, which she finished organizing quickly. After setting out some small ornaments and lighting a few scented candles, she went to wash up.
Lying in bed, she began scrolling through her bookmarked food blogs and shared a few shops with “Dududu.”
The other party replied quickly:
Grandpa Under the Tree: [Links]
Dududu: [These are useful! I’ve almost finished eating my way through the previous list. I even took friends, and they all said it was delicious!]
Grandpa Under the Tree: [What’s your favorite thing to eat?]
Dududu: [There are too many things I like, as long as it’s good. But now that you ask, I suddenly really crave noodles, hahaha.]
Grandpa Under the Tree: [Do you want to eat some now?]
Dududu: [I can’t eat anymore; we just had a team dinner tonight. Anyway, I’m going to take a shower.]
A shower? Want to video call?
Ye Nanning wickedly typed those words out and then deleted them. She rolled around on the bed twice, lamenting how she was becoming more and more shameless!
The next day, Du Xiran usually slept in, but she couldn’t be too lazy because Du Heruo was coming back at noon and would definitely wake her up to order takeout.
The doorbell rang a few times. Thinking it was Du Heruo, Du Xiran punched her pillow in frustration, grabbed it, and trudged to the door.
“I’ve told you so many times, only press it twice!” Du Xiran snapped before realizing the person at the door was a well-behaved Ye Nanning wearing an apron. She froze.
Ye Nanning was also stunned. She nodded and said, “Okay, President Du. Next time I’ll be careful and only press it twice.”
“Ah… I wasn’t talking about you. I thought Du Heruo was back.” Du Xiran hugged her pillow. Remembering something, she suddenly looked down. She was wearing messy pajamas, the top two buttons undone, revealing her fair collarbone. Her hair was a bird’s nest. Compared to the neatly dressed beauty in front of her, she felt utterly bedraggled.
She feigned composure, smoothing her hair and clearing her throat. “What is it? Is something wrong?”
“I made some noodles this morning and can’t finish them alone. President Du, would you like some?” Ye Nanning asked.
“That sounds great. Let me wash my face and I’ll be right over.” Du Xiran hurried back to change.
Ye Nanning happily returned to her home. Thinking of Du Xiran’s appearance just now, she couldn’t help but laugh. The “disheveled morning beauty” was so cute.
She dished out the noodles. This was actually the third batch she had cooked. She had tried ringing the bell earlier, but only with a tentative single press, which the other didn’t hear. So she had gone back to wait and cook again.
Finally, as noon approached, Ye Nanning gathered the courage to ring the bell several times. Heaven knows how startled she was by Du Xiran’s “press twice” comment; she thought she was being disliked.
Crying internally.
Ye Nanning put the noodles in the bowl and added a fried egg on top. Footsteps sounded at the door, no need to guess who it was.
“I didn’t have many flowers left at home, so I just brought a small housewarming gift. Hope you don’t mind?” Du Xiran said.
“You didn’t have to bring anything.” Ye Nanning turned around to see her holding a bottle of laundry detergent and a small pot of succulents. The succulents looked half-withered, as if Du Xiran was looking for a “new mother” for them.
Du Xiran set the items down and walked over to look at the noodles. “What a coincidence. I’ve wanted noodles since last night. Are you a psychic or something?”
Ye Nanning: I’m just your idol who’s good at fishing for information.
Du Xiran poked the egg. it was a soft-boiled egg, but the yolk stayed perfectly contained.
“!!!”
Du Xiran was amazed by her frying skills, then took a bite of the noodles. She was so happy her body swayed. “So delicious!”
Ye Nanning finally breathed a sigh of relief. “I’m glad you like it.”
Du Xiran immediately remembered her “boss persona.” She stopped swaying, sat up straight, and began eating properly, though her hair kept falling forward.
Just as she was about to get up, Ye Nanning handed her a hair tie.
Du Xiran took it and tied her hair back casually. “Ye Nanning, I’ve realized you’re really attentive and quite the domestic type. You don’t seem like a student who hasn’t graduated yet.”
Ye Nanning sat across from her, pursing her lips with a smile. “Thank you for the compliment, President Du.”
Du Xiran took two more bites, gave a thumbs up, and continued praising, “Whoever marries you will be truly lucky.”
Ye Nanning repeated the same thought: Do you want this blessing?
Du Xiran suddenly started coughing, covering her mouth with a tissue, and then laughed. “I didn’t realize you were so humorous.”
Ye Nanning laughed too. “I’m not just humorous. I can swim, box, trade stocks, cook, ride horses, drive, and clean. I can hold my own in a parlor or a kitchen, fight off thugs, be considerate by day, and warm the bed by night.”
Du Xiran couldn’t stop laughing. “Yes, keep that confidence! You can introduce yourself exactly like that to the person you like.”
“Okay, I will.” Ye Nanning smiled gently and lowered her head to eat.
“Trust me, with an introduction like that plus your ‘femme fatale’ face, no one can escape your grasp. Unless they’re an idiot,” Du Xiran said confidently.
Ye Nanning looked up at her. After a moment of silence, a deep smile appeared in her eyes, her tone both helpless and doting: “But… she really is a bit of an idiot.”
