I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 31.1
It seemed like a win-win. They just wanted their pride back. Xu Huan and the others were tempted. As Du Xiran said, no one here knew them; if they lost, they just wouldn’t come back.
Xu Huan whispered, “Should we try?”
Du Xiran said, “No.”
The woman froze. “Why not?”
“Like I said, our time is precious. Unless the stakes are worth it,” Du Xiran said. “How about this: if I win, you pay for the tabs of everyone here tonight.”
The woman gritted her teeth. “Don’t push your luck.”
“Then forget it. I guess this lady isn’t as rich as she looks. We won’t make her spend her money.” Du Xiran turned to leave.
“Wait, we accept,” a guy called out. He whispered something to the girl to calm her down and announced loudly, “Let’s consider this a friendly gesture. If you win, we buy everyone a drink.”
The crowd immediately cheered.
Soon, the Snooker area was packed, everyone crowding around the center table.
Both sides sent out two players. Du Xiran used to play pool a lot when she was younger, though she hadn’t touched it recently.
She wasn’t obsessed with winning, she just wanted to knock the wind out of these arrogant people.
And because of the stakes she set, the “public heart” was on their side. Everyone was rooting for them. Even if they lost, they would lose with honor and maybe even make some business connections. It was a brilliant move.
In the end, I should thank these suckers, Du Xiran thought. She smiled, her red lips curving as she sent a red ball into the pocket.
After several successful shots, the crowd cheered. After her first mistake, the woman who had been demanding the rematch stepped up. She was a regular and very confident.
She cleared seven or eight balls before missing, which was impressive for an amateur.
She looked proudly at her teammate, a man known to be a high-level player. Once it was his turn, he could clear the table.
She smiled smugly, looking pityingly at the young girl (Ye Nanning) whose turn was next. The current ball was at a very difficult angle, even she had missed it. Unless she was a pro, she probably wouldn’t even touch the ball. She figured she’d let the girl play around a bit before crushing them.
Suddenly, a gasp went through the crowd: “Beautiful!”
The woman looked closer. The girl had sent the cue ball toward the opposite rail. It bounced off the cushion and miraculously slid toward the colored ball, clicking softly as the ball dropped into the pocket.
Applause exploded. The spectators were hooked.
Xu Huan grabbed her colleagues’ hands: “Am I seeing things?! Did Xiao Ye really just do that?!”
Du Xiran was equally surprised. Her eyes were locked on Ye Nanning. She watched as the girl leaned over the cue, her body silhouette perfectly displayed. Her long hair fell over her shoulder, adding a touch of sexiness to her focused gaze.
Du Xiran grew more curious. What kind of person is Ye Nanning? How many more surprises do you have that ‘This Emperor’ doesn’t know about? .jpg
Others couldn’t help but stare at the young, beautiful woman, their admiration plain to see.
Whether the shots were easy or hard, Ye Nanning treated each with absolute seriousness, blocking out the environment otherwise, she would have been terrified by the crowd.
When she immersed herself in something, she gave it her all. Only when the final ball dropped into the pocket did the surrounding screams snap her back to reality.
She forced herself to stay calm as she put the cue back. The moment she turned around, her female colleagues swarmed her: “Xiao Ye, you’re too strong! AHHH!”
Ye Nanning didn’t know where to put her hands. She smiled and looked at Du Xiran.
Du Xiran stood in the crowd, wearing loose trousers and a white shirt, one hand in her pocket, giving her a gentle smile.
Ye Nanning blinked, feeling a bit confused. All the colleagues had hugged her, why hadn’t President Du?
Du Xiran said to the woman who lost, “I’ll thank you on behalf of everyone.”
The crowd laughed, happily going off to order their free drinks.
The woman was fuming. She spent all that money, lost face, and ended up providing a “wedding dress” for her rivals.
“It’s late, we should head back,” Du Xiran led the group back to the room.
On the way, a minor incident occurred. The man who hadn’t gotten a chance to show off his skills blocked Ye Nanning’s path. “Hey beautiful, got time for a match with me?”
Ye Nanning took a few steps back to stay away from him and shook her head.
“How about a drink then?” the man laughed. “What’s your name? Can I have your WeChat?”
The colleagues watched on. The man was quite handsome and dressed in a way that screamed “I’m rich.” They wondered how Ye Nanning would respond.
Ye Nanning shook her head again, her face cold and her stance clear.
“At least give me the face to go to dinner. Let’s be friends?” The man scanned her clothes and said confidently, “There’s a limited edition bag that’s quite nice. If you want it, I can give it to you as a first-meeting gift.”
Before Ye Nanning could react, Du Xiran said coldly, “Excuse us, don’t block the way.”
The man didn’t move. “I’m talking to her. Why are you butting in?”
Du Xiran pushed his hand aside to move past. The man cursed under his breath, “Tch, bitch.”
The words had barely left his mouth when a sound of someone being slammed against the wall rang out. Everyone turned to see Ye Nanning pinning the man’s arm against the wall. The man winced in pain.
“Keep your mouth clean. Get out,” Ye Nanning said, letting go. The man, looking pale and clutching his arm, cursed and hurried away.
Xu Huan and the others felt their shock meter hitting new highs.
“Xiao Ye, you’re too fierce!”
“Do you run into this often? Did you take classes?”
“That guy was so annoying. I almost wanted to hit him myself.”
“Did he say something just now to make you so angry?”
Because the man had whispered and the surroundings were loud, only Ye Nanning had heard it. She shook her head. “No, I just didn’t like his look.”
“I didn’t like it either! Good thing you weren’t swayed by money! Xiao Ye, you’re my idol now!” Xu Huan said.
Ye Nanning felt flustered. “No, no, I don’t deserve that.”
They grabbed their things from the room to head home. On the way out, they were surrounded again by men trying to ask for Ye Nanning’s contact info.
Du Xiran looked at her. “What do you say?”
Ye Nanning looked into her eyes and said, “I already have someone I like.”
“That settles it then. Old Wang, Old Li, I’ll leave this to you.” Du Xiran grabbed Ye Nanning’s hand and ran toward the elevator. Someone tried to follow but was blocked by the male colleagues. Xu Huan and the others laughed as they piled into the elevator and hit the close button.
Standing in the elevator, they looked at each other and laughed.
“We feel like flower guards right now,” Xu Huan joked.
“Why are some people so persistent?” Chen Shuimin sighed. “She said she didn’t want to give her number, yet they still push.”
As they chatted, Ye Nanning was oblivious. She looked down at their tightly clasped hands. President Du hadn’t let go yet.
Her body felt out of her control, her blood racing, her face gradually heating up. She lowered her head, revealing only two bright red ears.
Du Xiran looked at her. “Are you okay?”
Just then, the elevator doors opened, and several men from other floors entered. Du Xiran instinctively pulled Ye Nanning into the corner, shielding her in her arms to prevent contact with the other men.
Ye Nanning felt like a fire had been lit in her heart. She looked up and said, “Thank you.”
Du Xiran gave a brilliant smile. “What for? You’re so beautiful, of course I have to protect you.”
