I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 26
Ye Nanning regretted it as soon as she spoke. She suddenly remembered that her room was filled with many luxury brands, if Du Xiran saw them, she would undoubtedly suspect her family background.
She didn’t want to work under the halo of being the daughter of the president of Zhenghe Group, especially after hearing the conversation between her aunt and the others. She wanted to distance herself from any connection to Ye Yiyun in her daily work.
Fortunately, Du Xiran didn’t agree to her request immediately. Instead, she asked, “Stay for what? Do you feel like vomiting, or do you want to pour your heart out?”
Ye Nanning thought about it and shook her head.
She had only spoken impulsively under the influence of alcohol, simply wanting Du Xiran to stay and keep her company.
“It can’t be that you want me to help you bathe and dress,” Du Xiran joked lightly. “I should head back. There’s a kid at home.”
“You have a child?!” Ye Nanning was shocked.
“…”
Du Xiran couldn’t resist teasing her. “Yeah, so?”
Ye Nanning sized her up and down, praising, “Your figure is remarkably well-maintained.”
“Pfft,” Du Xiran burst out laughing. “What are you thinking? The ‘kid’ is my younger sister. She’s a senior in high school, so I have to keep an eye on her.”
“Oh, oh, that’s necessary.” Ye Nanning thought of that guy Ye Tingyuan. Fu Jie poured almost all her energy into him. “Then Director Du, you should hurry back to take care of your sister.”
“I’m off. Contact me if there’s anything important.” Du Xiran waved. As she reached the elevator, she instinctively looked back and saw Ye Nanning still standing at the door watching her. She urged, “Go back inside.”
“Okay, goodbye, Director Du.” Ye Nanning waved.
Seeing that she still didn’t move, Du Xiran frowned. “If you don’t go in, I’m going to get angry.”
Ye Nanning immediately opened the door and vanished from sight.
Du Xiran smiled and took a taxi home. A TV drama was playing in the living room, but Du Heruo was lying on the sofa, clutching her phone and laughing hysterically.
Seeing her return, Du Heruo asked, “Did you go drinking with Sister Shuangshuang again?”
“What about it?”
“You adults really aren’t easy to worry about.” Du Heruo poured her a glass of honey water and went back to her phone.
“Stop playing and do this.” Du Xiran brought out a test paper. “The last question, I know how to do it now.”
“So impressive? Did you Baidu it?” Du Heruo took the paper and looked at it. “You’ve already finished the questions, so what’s left for me to do?”
Du Xiran froze. She looked at the paper, the last two questions were indeed already written out.
She had actually forgotten about this. Alcohol really messes things up; why didn’t she think to have Ye Nanning write it on scrap paper instead?
“This handwriting isn’t yours at all,” Detective Heruo said. “You found outside help!”
Du Xiran didn’t deny it. “So what? It’s been so long since I graduated, how could I remember all this?”
Du Heruo hummed and looked closely at the problem-solving steps, impressed. “Which ‘outside help’ did you find? They seem amazing. They actually gave two different solving methods, and they’re very clear.”
Du Xiran took a sip of honey water. Thinking of Ye Nanning’s red, teary eyes, she said, “Just another kid.”
“A high school senior?”
“A junior in college.”
“That’s not small then. But they’re really incredible to be able to do our questions. I almost want her to be my tutor!”
Du Xiran paused, staring at her blankly. “That’s a good idea.”
Du Heruo’s grades were mediocre, which had always been a headache. Tutoring her herself was time-consuming and exhausting, and she wasn’t even sure she could do the work.
While Ye Nanning made some money from stocks, her income was unstable after all. Considering her usual plain clothing, she might accept the offer.
On Monday at work, Du Xiran paid special attention to Ye Nanning’s state. There was no gloom or complaining; she was as quiet and diligent as ever.
It seemed she had truly abandoned the idea of resigning.
Just then, a client, Mr. Chen, called. He wanted to make some modifications to previous data.
“Alright, please wait a moment.” Du Xiran walked to the door and called out, “Ye Nanning, Xu Huan, come in for a moment.”
As soon as the two sat down and heard the voice over the speakerphone, they knew they would be handling this together.
Analysts and assistants often participate in such conference calls. It helps them understand the project progress faster and allows them to help the VP fill in any gaps.
Du Xiran said to the phone, “Alright, Mr. Chen, you can state your concerns.”
Mr. Chen mentioned that there were a few orders not recorded in the branch’s turnover and he wanted to add them to increase the total revenue. Furthermore, an interested company had contacted him directly, and the talk went well, he wanted their opinion.
Du Xiran had many projects and couldn’t remember every detail. She asked Ye Nanning as a last resort, “Do you remember what the total revenue was at that time?”
Ye Nanning answered with a figure and mentioned several key data points.
Du Xiran gave her a surprised look, discussed the results with Mr. Chen, and finally said, “Send me the information of that interested client. We’ll build a model to compare.”
“Great, sorry to trouble you all.” Mr. Chen hung up.
Du Xiran asked Xu Huan, “Got all that?”
“Roughly understood most of it.” Xu Huan sighed. “Modeling again, always modeling!”
While most modeling was done by analysts, assistants were responsible for checking and auditing, and sometimes had to do the work themselves when things got too busy.
“Little Ye hasn’t even cried yet, and here you are crying first,” Du Xiran joked.
“That’s because she still has the innocence of the campus. Once she’s been hammered by society for a few years like me, she’ll be fine,” Xu Huan teased.
Ye Nanning nodded. “Right, I need to be hammered.”
The other two burst out laughing.
As they were leaving the office, Du Xiran stopped Ye Nanning. When the girl looked at her, Du Xiran found it a bit hard to speak and said awkwardly, “Let’s have dinner together tonight.”
“Okay.” Ye Nanning nodded reservedly. Back at her desk, she was overjoyed and couldn’t help but water the green plant on her desk.
She sped up her work efficiency, striving to get off early for dinner with Du Xiran.
She worked until the end of the day, stretched, and glanced at the office. Director Du was still working seriously.
Then she would work overtime for a bit longer.
An hour later, Director Du was still working.
An hour and a half later, Director Du finally started packing her bag.
Ye Nanning immediately saved her files, shut down her computer, and got ready to leave!
Du Xiran walked out, saw Ye Nanning coming over with her bag, and asked, “Finished everything for today?”
“Yes.”
“Let’s go then. What do you want to eat?” Du Xiran walked with her toward the elevator, where they ran into Director Li and his two interns, Yan Zhenghao and Hu Hanqiao.
As they rode the elevator, Director Li smiled. “Old Du, taking your intern out for dinner?”
“Yeah, you too?”
“Mm, these two kids have performed well lately. Want to eat together?”
Du Xiran declined, remembering she had things to discuss. Ye Nanning breathed a sigh of relief, she finally didn’t have to share a table with those two.
Du Xiran inadvertently noticed the boy named Yan Zhenghao secretly looking at Ye Nanning. Glancing at the cold-faced Ye Nanning, she instinctively stepped forward to block Yan Zhenghao’s view.
After reaching the restaurant and ordering, Du Xiran asked, “Is that Yan Zhenghao pursuing you?”
Ye Nanning was stunned. She handed the hot tea to Du Xiran before answering, “Yes, but I’ve already rejected him.”
“I see. Don’t like him?”
“No.”
“Oh, then just focus on working hard for now.” Du Xiran took a sip of tea and then stared at her for a long time.
Ye Nanning’s face grew hot under her gaze. She looked down from time to time to see if there was anything embarrassing about her appearance.
“Are you short on money?” Du Xiran suddenly asked.
“Huh?”
Du Xiran looked at her simple attire and said, “I have a good part-time job here. I wonder if you’re interested?”
Ye Nanning didn’t expect her “poor intern” persona to be so successful that she’d be offered a part-time job. She could only ask tentatively, “What kind of part time job?”
Du Xiran: “Tutor.”
“I don’t know if I’m up for it. Tutoring is actually quite hard, especially since the difficulty of exercises is getting higher and higher.” Ye Nanning said a lot in one breath, every word expressing a polite rejection.
Du Xiran wasn’t a fool; she naturally caught the implication. She said regretfully, “True, you have your internship now and might not have that much time. I didn’t think it through, only focusing on my own family’s situation. Besides, with my sister’s personality, I’m not even sure if she’d accept tutoring.”
Ye Nanning nodded, then suddenly froze.
Who? Who needs tutoring? Your sister?
Ye Nanning blurted out: “I’m willing.”
Du Xiran: “Hmm?”
“I am willing to become your sister’s tutor. Whether through wind or rain, whether she is irritable or aloof, I am willing to tutor her in her studies, never to leave or forsake her,” Ye Nanning vowed.
Du Xiran was stunned for a few seconds, then leaned her head on her hand and started laughing, her slender shoulders trembling.
After a long while, she looked up and said, “Don’t accept my proposal unconditionally just because I’m your leader. I’m discussing this seriously with you. You can refuse me without any burden.”
“I’m serious too, truly, truer than steel,” Ye Nanning repeated. “A high school senior sister, right? I have tutoring experience; my younger brother is also a senior.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“Then is the timing convenient…?”
“It can be arranged for the weekends. I still have that much time.” Ye Nanning wished she could fly to her house right now to start tutoring.
Du Xiran: “Have you really thought it over?”
“Mhm. If you’re worried, we can sign a contract right now,” Ye Nanning said.
Du Xiran: “That’s a good idea.”
The two businesswomen hit it off. Du Xiran took out a pen and paper on the spot and wrote a simple employment contract, set an hourly rate, and then asked for her opinion.
“Isn’t the price a bit high?” Ye Nanning didn’t have tutoring experience, but this hourly rate was definitely above the market price.
“You’re a top student from B University; shouldn’t I give more? If the results are good, there will be a bonus.” Du Xiran added that point. “Any other benefits you want?”
Ye Nanning: “Then I’ll take the liberty of asking, is there social security and a housing fund?”
“…”
Du Xiran retorted, “You’re dreaming.”
Ye Nanning smiled. “I’m joking.”
Ah, wait… did she just joke with Director Du?!
This was truly a small step for conversation, but a giant leap for their relationship!
Ye Nanning, you did it!
Inside, Ye Nanning was dancing wildly. She took the chance to ask, “Are meals included?”
“Yes.” Du Xiran continued taking notes.
“Is housing included?” Ye Nanning looked at her nervously.
“That’s possible too. If the tutoring is too late at night, I can provide a place to stay, but you might not want to,” Du Xiran said cryptically.
Ye Nanning: Perfect!!!
There was nothing she wouldn’t want. Even if Director Du’s home was a cave or a bridge, she would be fine with it!
Du Xiran: “Any other questions?”
Ye Nanning: Will you be my girlfriend? Will you marry me?
Seeing her dazed, Du Xiran asked again, “Any other questions?”
Overwhelmed with joy, Ye Nanning had already progressed from staying at Director Du’s house to imagining a happy life of cohabitation and marriage, having two children in three years. She blurted out:
“What do you want the children to be called?
Du Xiran paused. “Huh???”
