I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 20
The next morning, the two of them had to catch a flight back to City B. Ye Nanning was waiting by the door of the neighboring room, holding her suitcase, while Du Xiran opened her door, but then, as if she suddenly remembered something, she ran back inside to search: “Where are my keys?”
Ye Nanning took the suitcase Du Xiran had left by the door and waited a few minutes. Du Xiran finally hurried out: “Let’s go, hurry up.”
Ye Nanning still wore her sunglasses. Checking out of the hotel and checking in at the airport went much more smoothly this time.
Du Xiran initially thought she was playing some kind of “airport fashion show.” She was busy checking messages on her phone and even sent a message to their group chat, saying they would have a meeting immediately upon returning.
The group chat was full of playful complaints.
Princess Du: [Who’s complaining?]
Xu Huan: [You heard wrong, we said: Welcome Princess Du back from a victorious trip!]
Wang Zemin: [Welcome Princess Du back from a victorious trip!]
Chen Shuimin: [And Xiao Ye too!]
Ye Nanning glanced at the messages and smiled.
The plane landed smoothly at City B Airport. As soon as they got off, Du Xiran’s phone started ringing one call after another. Ye Nanning helped her carry her suitcase and led her to the parking lot to find the car. This time, she knew to be the driver without Du Xiran needing to remind her. She fastened her seatbelt and looked at Du Xiran.
Du Xiran, sitting in the passenger seat, was still talking to someone on the phone, completely unaware of Ye Nanning’s hand hovering mid-air, pointing in a certain direction for a long time.
“Don’t promise anything lightly, let’s discuss it properly when I get back to the office. I’m at the airport now, will be back.” Du Xiran was saying, when suddenly a hand flashed in front of her. She turned and met Ye Nanning’s gaze, just a few centimeters apart.
Both of them froze.
Ye Nanning blinked, her fingers trembling slightly, then deliberately acted casual and pulled the seatbelt over, fastening it.
“Click.”
Du Xiran realized a moment later and murmured to the person on the other end: “I’ll be back immediately.”
After hanging up, Du Xiran stared at Ye Nanning for a moment.
Ye Nanning felt her face heat up from the intense gaze and focused even harder on the road, her veins visible on her hands.
“Tsk, your hands are actually quite nice,” Du Xiran complimented. “No wonder they say people who drive seriously have charm.”
Ye Nanning thought: Really? Well, then I’ll drive every day from now on!
She released one hand and turned the steering wheel with a single hand, intentionally showing off a bit more.
“Focus on driving, don’t show off. I just complimented you, don’t go overboard,” Du Xiran said.
“…”
Ye Nanning obediently held the wheel with both hands again.
Upon arriving at the office, they left their luggage in the car and went inside. Colleagues on the way greeted Du Xiran, and she responded as they walked to their team’s workstations.
“Get ready, we’ll have a meeting in ten minutes,” Du Xiran said.
“Du… Du Boss, don’t you take a break at all?” Xu Huan asked.
“Ten minutes is enough. I still have to grab lunch,” Du Xiran replied.
“Okay, I’ll check if anyone is in the meeting room,” Xu Huan said, leaving. Ye Nanning then sat at her desk, and her colleagues couldn’t resist asking about the trip.
“Xiao Ye, first time on a business trip with Du Boss, how was it?”
“Pretty good,” Ye Nanning replied.
“Was the schedule tight?”
“Tight.”
“Are you used to business trips?”
“Yes.”
“How was the discussion with the client?”
“Good.”
After a round of questions, there was nothing more to ask. Ye Nanning was simply too blunt and unchatty everything was “good,” leaving no room for follow-up.
Xu Huan returned and looked at Du Xiran in her office before turning back. Excitedly, she asked, “Did you have a dinner event? Was Du Boss drunk?”
“Yes, a little,” Ye Nanning said truthfully. Du Xiran had been slightly tipsy but not drunk enough to sway.
“That’s good. Not completely drunk is fine,” Xu Huan breathed a sigh of relief, and everyone nearby laughed.
“If Du Boss had gotten that drunk again, she probably would have taken leave instead of coming back immediately,” someone commented.
“True, but honestly, I’d love to see Du Boss drunk, hahaha,” Xu Huan added.
Ye Nanning had a hunch there was a story here, so she asked, “What’s she like when drunk?”
“Just… hahaha, you can’t even imagine!” Xu Huan started to explain, then burst out laughing and collapsed on the desk, taking a while to get up, making the others laugh too.
Du Xiran walked out: “Since everyone’s so lively, let’s start the meeting now.”
Everyone fell silent.
In the meeting room, Du Xiran briefly summarized the past two days, focusing on the client’s needs and concerns: “Besides the list of potential acquisitions you have, dig deeper for other clients and see if we can find a better fit.”
Halfway through, it was lunchtime. Du Xiran said, “We’ll continue the remaining content in the afternoon. Just report on your project progress for now.”
Everyone responded and went for lunch.
Ye Nanning organized her notes and was the last to leave the meeting room, arranging chairs and throwing used cups into the trash.
Only a few people remained in the office. Ye Nanning placed her notebook on the desk, drank some water, and noticed Du Xiran was still in the office.
She waited a moment, hoping to have lunch together.
But Du Xiran didn’t come out. She packed some documents and, wrapped in a shawl, rested her head on the desk to nap.
Skipping lunch?
Ye Nanning looked up and noticed the air conditioner was still on. She quietly entered, adjusted the temperature higher, and placed the remote aside.
Glancing casually, she saw Du Xiran’s long hair falling across her shoulders and side of her face. Her slightly parted lips and relaxed sleeping expression immediately struck Ye Nanning’s heart.
She slightly crouched, resting her hands on the desk, like a cat peeking, staring at her without blinking. The fatigue of the business trip melted away, leaving only a light, soft happiness.
At that moment, Du Xiran’s eyelashes twitched, and she opened her eyes.
Their eyes met, and the atmosphere froze for a moment.
“What are you doing here…” Du Xiran started, but suddenly it went dark in front of her eyes.
In a panic, Ye Nanning covered her eyes with her hand.
Du Xiran blinked, her lashes brushing against Ye Nanning’s palm, silently scolding her clumsiness.
After a moment, Du Xiran said, “Do you know the meaning of ‘covering your ears while stealing a bell’? That’s basically what you’re doing.”
“…Yeah, I know. But can you at least save me a pair of pants?” Ye Nanning thought.
Du Xiran removed her hand and asked, “What exactly were you doing just now?”
There was no escaping the question. Ye Nanning stared at her hands, still holding her own, and stammered, “I saw… you sleeping in a slightly awkward position.”
“Me?” Du Xiran’s brow twitched. “What’s awkward about it?”
“Your mouth is open while sleeping; you might drool. I just wanted to… remind you…” Ye Nanning frantically tried to explain.
Du Xiran: “…”
