I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 2
V Grandpa Under the Tree: The pretty sister changed her hairstyle today so gorgeous I could die!
V Grandpa Under the Tree: Successfully made eye contact with her for 0.01 seconds. I’m dizzy with happiness!
V Grandpa Under the Tree: I really want to be friends with her ahhh what do I do!
Back home, Ye Nanning fired off three posts on Weibo in one breath, then collapsed on the sofa to read the comments.
You can tell Grandpa is really going crazy. Three posts in a row. She can’t control her excitement.
Excitement? Isn’t Grandpa a girl?
Confused. Is Grandpa male or female? I thought she was a girl, but she’s into a big sister? I’m lost now.
Grandpa’s hands are so pretty, she must be a girl!
Honestly, some guys have really pretty hands too.
A guy’s knuckles don’t get that slim, trust me, look at this comparison photo. [Image]
Ye Nanning: “……”
Can you all at least pay some attention to my love life? Just because I’m not a top-tier celebrity I don’t deserve to have my romance discussed?
She scrolled further and finally found comments talking about her crush.
??? I thought this was a sweet silent crush, but you mean you don’t even KNOW her?? Is unrequited love always this lowly? I’m crying.
She seems like a nice big sister. I want to know her too! Grandpa hurry up and go for it! And bring Grandma to appear together!
Food blogger, please become a romance blogger now! I’m good at eating and even better at shipping CPs!
Grandpa, if you like her that much then go for it. If you don’t tell her, she’ll never know!
But some people really can’t bring themselves to speak up. I’ve had a crush for two years and don’t dare say a word. sad dog crying.jpg
Ye Nanning sighed deeply and replied to the empathetic commenter:
Sister, are you also socially anxious?
The sister replied:
I’m not, I’m gay. I’m in love with my roommate. He’s straight. Ughhh.
Everyone else: Hahahahahaha!
That comment was quickly liked to the top. Fans found it hilarious and also discovered that she’s socially anxious.
Ye Nanning: “……”
Awkward.
Luckily, there are plenty of socially anxious people nowadays. Her fans rushed to offer tips to overcome social anxiety and encouraged her to confess.
She was moved, but she didn’t dare act.
Everyone understands principles. Actually doing it…
…better to go lie down and sleep.
Right. Sleep!
The next morning, the autumn wind blew early. After fall began the weather cooled.
Before the sun even rose, Ye Nanning was already awake. She shut off her alarm and opened the curtains.
Her apartment was near campus, on a high floor, overlooking the school.
The campus was filled with students underclassmen heading to morning study. On the other side, the athletic field was filled with company booths. The gym next to it was the site of the fall recruitment fair.
Many companies were coming to recruit that week. Most of her classmates had already found internships. Some didn’t want to go into finance and looked elsewhere.
Ye Nanning, however, had already gone to Zhenghe headquarters for an interview before recruitment season. She had seen the job posting online, sent in a resume, and soon after was invited to interview.
She wasn’t satisfied with her performance because of her socially anxious personality, but she still passed. She didn’t know if there was some unspoken factor helping her, but since she hadn’t told her family beforehand, she preferred to believe she was truly excellent!
Zhenghe was recruiting on the first day of fall recruitment. She heard that two classes next door already had people hired and scheduled to go to the company that very day.
She warmed some milk, made an avocado sandwich and a boiled egg.
But after the sandwich, she couldn’t eat the egg.
Thinking of the interviewer saying the work would be busy and she might not have time to eat at work, she didn’t want to waste food. So she put the egg in her bag and took it to the company.
The company was in the CBD of City B. Tall buildings everywhere. Everyone on the street was dressed in business attire talking on phones, discussing deals. As if they were casually handling business worth millions.
This scene wasn’t unfamiliar. Her family environment had always been similar.
She didn’t drive. She took a taxi, carrying a 9.9-yuan canvas bag from Taobao.
Security was strict. She had to scan her ID to enter. The elevator attendant was handsome and politely pressed the buttons for everyone.
The elevator rose slowly and her nerves rose with it.
Every new environment required a long adjustment for her. She didn’t know what her life here would be like.
Ding…
The elevator doors opened. She inhaled deeply, mentally preparing herself. Just as she was about to step out, the doors started closing again.
“Wait, wait!”
Ye Nanning hurriedly blocked the doors and squeezed out. A burst of laughter erupted inside.
She didn’t dare look back. Her mental preparation instantly collapsed.
Going out is so hard. Working is so hard.
She sincerely hoped she’d never have to see those people again.
“Hello, are you here for the internship?” the pretty receptionist asked.
Ye Nanning nodded.
“Please wait over there. HR will come get you soon.”
She nodded again and sat on the sofa in the lounge area. She placed her hands neatly on her knees looking extremely obedient.
People kept passing by the front desk, giving her a few more glances, whispering with the receptionist, then leaving looking satisfied.
Ye Nanning didn’t dare peek anymore. She lowered her head and stared at her fingers.
A middle-aged woman walked in, spotted her immediately, and said openly to the receptionist:
“Where did this beauty come from?”
“Intern,” the receptionist replied.
Ye Nanning straightened her back further, thinking they might be talking about her, but she didn’t dare speak.
“Oh? I thought she was some model.” The woman said. “Amazing, even interns are this competitive now. Will we still have a piece of the pie in the future?”
“You’re so pretty, Lin-jie. Others should be worried about how to be as outstanding as you.”
“Your sweet mouth bring me a coffee this afternoon. Buy yourself one too.”
“Thanks Lin-jie, love you.”
Ye Nanning: “……”
I’m doomed. My mouth is not sweet at all how am I supposed to get along with coworkers?
More interns came in. Soon a boy and girl sat across from her. They looked young and seemed to know each other.
The boy asked, “Hey beauty, you’re also an intern?”
Ye Nanning nodded.
“We’re from University A, what about you?” he asked again.
She pursed her lips, still thinking about how to answer, when the girl slapped his arm.
“Why are you asking that? We’re all interns. No need to ask background.”
“I’m just curious, maybe she’s a schoolmate.”
“You just think she’s pretty.”
More interns arrived, including three from University B. One of the girls recognized her.
“Ye Nanning? You’re also an intern? We didn’t see your name on the acceptance list.”
Others glanced over curiosity in their eyes.
Competition at investment banks is real, and so is the existence of people with connections. That comment attracted attention immediately.
Ye Nanning had to explain, “I interviewed in the summer.”
“Oh, no wonder. If we knew, we would’ve invited you to come with us.”
The other girl tugged her sleeve and whispered, “Invite her for what? As if she’d want to hang with us. We’re not even in the same class she wouldn’t bother.”
The guy who asked her yesterday about her internship was also among them. Now that he saw her again at Zhenghe, he was excited and wanted to talk to her but HR arrived.
“Is everyone here? You may call me Lisa.” Lisa was in her forties, in a sharp suit, scanning everyone with sharp eyes. “Alright, come with me.”
They were brought to HR. Their documents were collected. Badges were being prepared.
Lisa held an hour-long orientation covering company structure, work expectations, schedules, tasks, salary everything in detail.
Everyone was tense. It was their first real job, and Zhenghe Securities was a huge platform. Most hires were master’s students or had overseas backgrounds.
After the meeting, assistants handed out badges and assigned workstations, along with tissues, notebooks, and other basic supplies efficient, as expected.
“Two of you are assigned to the secondary market. Take them over,” Lisa instructed.
Two girls were taken away.
“The remaining eight are for the investment banking division. Get to know each other, but for now follow me upstairs. We’ll find your seats and your VP.”
Walking through the 2nd market floor, Lisa said,
“This floor is the secondary market where investors trade stocks. A-shares and so on.”
“Got it, got it. I trade sometimes,” the outgoing boy said. “Everything’s been green lately.”
The others snickered. Lisa even cracked a tiny smile.
Ye Nanning envied his social skills again.
“This floor is where you’ll be working.”
When the elevator opened, they saw a full office floor. Each workstation had two or three monitors with red and green lines like warning signals.
Some people were watching data, some were on calls, some were discussing projects. Very lively.
A few interns looked thrilled they could already imagine their bright future.
Employees glanced over briefly, then went back to work. But some sharp-eyed ones noticed the interns.
“Lisa, the intern visuals seem upgraded this time.”
“Get back to work. I heard you lost a client last week,” Lisa replied. She looked at the interns and smiled, “Let’s see how many handsome boys and pretty girls survive.”
The interns tensed up.
Another employee laughed, “Kids, hang in there! We love fresh faces. I’m tired of seeing these old geezers every day.”
The interns laughed, feeling more at ease.
“I think your eyes are malfunctioning. You stare at Old Du’s seat every day no wonder they’re tired,” his female colleague teased. He turned red.
Laughter filled the area but quieted quickly so as not to disturb phone calls.
Lisa placed each intern at their workstation, until only Ye Nanning was left.
“Where’s Old Du? Gone again?” she asked an associate nearby.
“He’s in the break room calling a client this one’s tough.”
“Forget it. I’ll hand the intern to you first. She’ll follow you and Old Du for now. Tell him later.”
“Got it.”
Lisa left. The associate Xu Huan smiled at her.
“Put your things there. Looks like we’ll be working together.”
“…Okay,” Ye Nanning nodded. To sound friendlier, she added softly, “Alright.”
She checked her badge Analyst. The bottom rung.
She sneaked a look at Xu Huan’s badge Associate.
“Let me introduce the team. Those people on your right are all with us.”
They all glanced over, greeted her, then continued working.
Xu Huan was multitasking and said, “Our VP is on a call. You’ll meet her soon.”
“Okay.” Ye Nan-ning turned on her computer and installed software from the provided USB.
Finance required careful handling data, formatting, even fonts had to follow company standards.
“Don’t let her pretty face fool you,” Xu Huan added suddenly. “She’s not someone you can slack off around. Don’t let your guard down.”
Ye Nanning didn’t fully understand, but didn’t dare ask.
Intern. Speak less. Be cautious.
She repeated it internally three times.
Not far away, the outgoing boy was already joking with new coworkers:
“Director Li, everyone! Please take care of me!”
Ye Nanning glanced enviously, then noticed another girl pulling out a big bag of snacks to share. The coworkers praised her.
Ye Nanning: “……”
You’re all too good at this!
She regretted not bringing snacks.
She reached into her bag only the egg.
Xu Huan noticed. “You didn’t eat breakfast? You can’t skip meals on your first day. Don’t learn from Director Du she didn’t eat this morning either.”
“The client’s a headache,” another coworker added.
“Not just the client. Director Du never eats on time.”
Ye Nanning picked up the crucial point
Director Du didn’t eat breakfast!
After finishing installation, she adjusted her font. Xu Huan tapped her desk.
“Director Du is back. Come meet her.”
Ye Nanning grabbed her notebook and pen. She hesitated… then picked up the egg too.
The VP offices were by the floor to ceiling windows. Interns sat in the open area, squeezed together. Only VPs and above got private offices.
She followed Xu Huan to the nearest office. Through the glass door, she saw a woman taking off her coat.
“Director Du, this is the intern who passed the summer interview,” Xu Huan said, pushing the door.
“Mm.” The woman casually hung her coat. “Come in.”
Ye Nanning walked in nervously, eyes fixed on the black flats approaching her.
“Hello, Director Du.”
Director Du looked down and asked, surprised, “What are you holding?”
Ye Nanning panicked. Before she could even register the voice, she blurted out and held it forward:
“I’d like to offer Director Du an egg.”
Director Du: “……”
Xu Huan: “……”
Ye Nanning: “……”
