I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 17
The next day, the weather was great. The curtains hadn’t been drawn, and the sunlight streamed directly through the window, inching from the floor to the bedside, then leaping onto the person sleeping on the bed.
Ye Nanning raised her hand to block the light, then rolled over and continued sleeping.
It wasn’t until the sun was practically burning her backside that she suddenly jolted awake. She sat up with a flip, her hair a messy curtain around her shoulders.
She turned her head to look at the blazing sun outside the window and immediately sensed something was wrong. She snatched up her phone 11:42.
She clearly set an alarm. How did she not hear it?
Opening the alarm app, she saw the alarm had gone off she simply hadn’t woken up!
For someone who normally woke up bright and early, this was rare enough. Worse she had work today!
Ye Nanning shot out of bed, changed clothes at lightning speed, washed her face and brushed her teeth as fast as humanly possible, skipping skincare entirely. She hurriedly stuffed all her files into her bag, slipped on her shoes, and dashed out.
Then she stood before the room next door and nervously rang the doorbell.
She didn’t know if Du Xiran was still sleeping.
If she was, then it was her, the intern, who had failed she hadn’t woken her supervisor, making them miss an important meeting with the client.
If she wasn’t… that was even worse. The supervisor was already off working, and the intern was still sleeping in at the hotel?!
She pressed the doorbell twice, but there was no response.
Ye Nanning was about to call her when footsteps echoed in the hallway, followed by Du Xiran’s teasing voice:
“Well, well, our Big Lazybug Ye is finally awake.”
Ye Nanning nearly dropped her phone. She turned left and saw Du Xiran coming from outside, a bag slung over her shoulder.
“When did you wake up?” Du Xiran asked as she walked to her door.
“Just now.”
Suddenly, Du Xiran pinched her chin.
Ye Nanning froze in confusion.
“You’re not wearing makeup. Guess you really did just wake up.” Du Xiran studied her face, then released her and said, “Go wash up. We’re going out to eat in a bit.”
“President Chen…?”
“We already finished talking. We’re visiting another company this afternoon to see if we can close a deal.” With that, Du Xiran opened her door. “See you in a bit.”
“Okay.” Ye Nanning hurried back to her room, quickly put on some light makeup, then went to wait quietly outside Du Xiran’s room.
“Whoa….don’t just stand there like that, you scared me.” Du Xiran opened the door to find her standing stiffly like a statue. “If you’re done, just knock and come in to wait.”
“Next time, I definitely will.” Ye Nanning felt a little spark of joy just the thought of being able to enter Du General Manager’s room in the future made her happy.
But then Du Xiran suddenly added, as if reconsidering:
“Forget it. You can keep waiting outside. My room isn’t something you can enter casually.”
“Okay…” Ye Nanning deflated instantly.
They had lunch at the buffet restaurant downstairs. As they walked in, Ye Nanning followed and said, “President Du, let me treat you this time.”
“Why?”
“Because… I overslept.” She said, embarrassed.
“Look at the price.” Du Xiran pointed at the sign by the door. “199 per person. You haven’t even gotten your salary yet. With what money?”
“I can reimburse it.”
“That’s over budget.”
“Then… take it as I owe you. When I get my salary, I’ll make it up and treat you to a nice dinner.”
“Sure, I’ll be waiting,” Du Xiran said casually.
Ye Nanning silently pumped her fist yes!
She secured another chance to have dinner with President Du!
After getting their plates and sitting down, Ye Nanning kept glancing at her, clearly wanting to say something.
Du Xiran began peeling a crab. “Relax. You’re just one runner business will still get done. Besides, President Chen even praised your drinking skills today.”
Hearing she hadn’t ruined anything, Ye Nanning finally relaxed. “President Du, why didn’t you wake me up?”
Du Xiran raised her eyes slightly, smiling. “You were drunk last night did you forget what happened?”
Ye Nanning stiffened. Her hand holding the chopsticks trembled slightly.
She had forgotten. The reason she overslept was because she’d drunk too much last night.
She’d been in such a rush earlier that she’d forgotten entirely.
But she was always obedient after drinking, so she hadn’t thought too much about it.
“Did I… cause trouble while drunk?” she asked in disbelief.
“Do you remember how you got back to the hotel?” Du Xiran asked.
“By car.”
“And then?”
Then… Ye Nanning put down her chopsticks, closed her eyes, and tried hard to recall last night.
She remembered getting into the car with President Du… smelled her lovely scent… and couldn’t resist calling her Ranran.
… Ranran?!
Oh god. Where did she get the nerve?!
Her toes curled in horror. And then she remembered how they got back to the hotel.
After getting out of the car, she stepped in her heels and quietly said:
“My toes hurt.”
Du Xiran patiently asked, “So?”
“Ranran needs to carry me.”
The words were coquettish, but her expression had been icy cold so cold it made Du Xiran laugh. “Wow, you’re something. Do you know who I am? I’m your supervisor.”
“Hello, Supervisor.” Ye Nanning even saluted. “Supervisor can carry me too.”
Oh god…
Ye Nanning lowered her head and stared at her plate in shame.
Seeing this, Du Xiran asked, “Remember now?”
“Th-thank you, President Du, for carrying me back…”
While embarrassed to death, a small part of her was happy. But why couldn’t she remember being carried?
Du Xiran chuckled. “No need to thank me. You walked back yourself.”
Ye Nanning: “?”
Du Xiran said, “I just shouted ‘left, right, left, right,’ and you cooperated and marched the whole way.”
Ye Nanning: “……”
Just then, a waiter passing by noticed her pretty face and cheerfully greeted, “Beautiful lady! Come for lunch? Your marching last night was amazingly on point!”
Ye Nanning: “………………”
Would jumping from this three-story building kill her?
Du Xiran laughed so hard her shoulders shook.
Ye Nanning wished she could sink into the floor. Suddenly, another scene surfaced in her mind.
When they reached her hotel door, she couldn’t find her room card, so Du Xiran helped search her bag.
She… seemed to have pulled out a lipstick and smeared it all over her lips, making a mess that made Du Xiran laugh so hard she had to lean against the wall.
Du Xiran asked what she was doing.
She said, “Touching up my makeup. Makes me pretty.”
Du Xiran said, “It’s so late why bother? You’re already the prettiest.”
Ye Nanning said, “No, YOU’RE the pretty one.”
“No, no, you’re younger. You’re the prettiest.” Du Xiran soothed her while confiscating the lipstick. “Stop messing around and find your room card, great beauty.”
“You’re the prettiest.”
Then suddenly smack Ye Nanning cupped Du Xiran’s face in both hands.
Du Xiran’s mouth twitched. “My dear ancestor, what are you doing now?”
“You’re only not pretty because you’re not wearing lipstick.”
Ye Nanning dipped her finger onto her own smeared lips, then dabbed it onto Du Xiran’s lips, leaving a faint red stain.
“Now you’re pretty.”
Thinking of this, Ye Nanning: !!!
She slowly raised her head, sneaking a glance at Du Xiran’s lips so pretty. Really so pretty.
“What are you looking at?” Du Xiran asked, eating her crab.
“President Du… last night, did I… commit the unforgivable sin of putting lipstick on you?”
Ye Nanning decided that if she was going to die, she might as well die thoroughly. She’d already composed her epitaph:
Ye Nanning, female. No great ambitions in life. Died a meaningful death.
But Du Xiran simply shook her head and said calmly, “No, you remembered wrong.”
Ye Nanning blinked.
Could it be… her drunken brain mixed up reality and imagination?
