I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 15
The flight would take about two hours. Du Xiran had already napped a bit in the car, so she wasn’t sleepy now. She opened her laptop and started going through some documents.
After a while, she turned her head toward the energetic looking Ye Nanning. “You’re not tired?”
Ye Nanning shook her head. Sitting next to her goddess, how could she be tired? She was so awake she felt like she could fly the plane herself.
“If you’re not tired, find something to do. Why are you staring at me?” Du Xiran said.
Caught.
Ye Nanning pretended to act casual, opened her bag, took out her computer, clicked on the client files, and started reading them seriously.
A moment later, a faint orange blossom scent drifted over, and Du Xiran leaned toward her screen. “Where did you get this?”
“I asked Sister Xu Huan for it yesterday,” Ye Nanning replied, trying to remain calm, though she was sneakily staring at Du Xiran’s profile.
“Mm, not bad. Pretty proactive,” Du Xiran said. She watched for a while, then lifted her head toward Ye Nanning only to see her suddenly cover her eyes and turn her head away.
“……”
Du Xiran asked, “What, am I hurting your eyes?”
“No.” Her eyes just hurt from sneaking glances for too long.
Of course Du Xiran knew that wasn’t the reason, but she couldn’t resist teasing her. “Then why’d you turn away?”
“Your radiance overwhelmed me,” Ye Nanning said sincerely.
Du Xiran: “Pff… You’re good at jokes.”
Ye Nanning: “……”
No, that was actually true.
Du Xiran sat back and reopened the summary sheet, checking which companies in the client’s industry might be appropriate to approach.
Unknowingly, an hour passed. She massaged the tension in her neck and turned her head. Ye Nanning was still focused intently on the screen, a small notebook in front of her filled with key points and reminders.
The more Du Xiran watched, the more she felt this intern was quite capable. Seemed she’d lucked out with the random assignment this time.
Ye Nanning sensed Du Xiran’s gaze from the corner of her eye and subtly straightened her back, sitting rigidly upright, not daring to let her eyes drift anywhere. Her heart thumped wildly.
Only when she heard the flight attendant’s voice did she snap out of her nervous shyness—only to fall into a new kind of panic.
“Hello, may I ask what you’d like to drink? We have Coke, orange juice, bottled water. Would you like some biscuits?”
The attendant and her cart approached.
Ye Nanning anxiously tapped her toe against the floor.
Could she not talk to strangers?
A moment later, the attendant reached their row and asked the same question.
“I’ll have a bottle of water,” Du Xiran said, then turned to ask, “What about you?”
No time to think!
Ye Nanning threw her head back against the seat and pretended to sleep. “I’m sleeping.”
Du Xiran: ????
The flight attendant smiled. “Miss, would you like something to drink?”
Ye Nanning turned her entire body away, as though the question had disturbed her dream.
“Bring her a bottle of water too,” Du Xiran said, helpless. She glanced at the cart. “Oh, do you have milk?”
“Yes.”
“Then she’ll have milk.”
After the attendant left, Du Xiran set the milk on Ye Nanning’s tray table. The next moment, Ye Nanning sat right up and went back to work.
Du Xiran: “…… hello?”
Ye Nanning paused her typing and turned her head. “Hi?”
“You were pretending to sleep?” Du Xiran asked.
“No, I wanted to sleep, but I couldn’t, so I figured I should work instead.” Ye Nanning kept her face calm, but her toes were scrubbing frantically at the carpet. Good thing the floor was padded, or the whole cabin would’ve heard the sound of her curling toes.
“Alright.” Du Xiran withdrew her gaze, dubious.
After landing, they headed to the hotel. In the lobby, the two stared at each other.
Du Xiran looked at her expressionlessly; Ye Nanning looked back just as blankly. They stared long enough before Du Xiran finally said, “What are you standing there for? Go check us in.”
“Oh…”
Usually, when she stayed at hotels alone, she just tapped her card and avoided talking to the front desk altogether. But this was different.
“Hello, please show both IDs. How many days will you be staying? What room types?” the receptionist asked.
See? So many questions. Ye Nanning looked dead inside as she took out her ID, then turned toward Du Xiran.
Du Xiran: ?
Ye Nanning spread her hands helplessly.
Du Xiran rolled her eyes dramatically and walked to the counter with her own ID. “Two days, two single rooms.”
“Alright.”
After check-in, Du Xiran didn’t even bother hoping the beautiful intern would help pull her suitcase. In the elevator, she finally asked, “Your first business trip?”
Ye Nanning nodded.
“There’ll be lots more in the future. Situations like this are your job. Otherwise, what am I bringing you for?” Du Xiran said.
“I understand,” said Ye Nanning.
Their rooms were next to each other. As they swiped their doors open, Du Xiran reminded her, “Hurry and change clothes. We leave at 11:30 to visit the client. Don’t be late.”
“Okay.”
Ye Nanning changed quickly and obediently waited in front of Du Xiran’s door.
After a long while, Du Xiran opened it and froze. “How long have you been waiting?”
Ye Nanning checked her watch and answered honestly, “Twenty-one minutes.”
Du Xiran: “……“
“Sorry, I didn’t think you’d get ready so fast.” She paused something felt off. She had opened the door right on time, yet somehow Ye Nanning made her feel like the one who was late. She composed herself. “Let’s go.”
“Okay.”
Ye Nanning followed closely, her hands hovering near Du Xiran’s side as if testing something.
Du Xiran turned around. “What are you doing?”
“Your bag…” Ye Nanning pointed at the shoulder bag. “I can help you carry it.”
“…No need, it’s just a bag.”
“But it’s heavy.”
Ye Nanning carefully grasped the strap. Du Xiran glanced at her twice, then simply handed it over.
Ye Nanning took it her hand suddenly dipped under the weight, her body tilting sideways. Curious, she peeked inside.
What was in this bag? Why was it so heavy?
“There’s a brick in it,” Du Xiran said casually, exactly as if answering her thoughts.
Ye Nanning stared at her in disbelief, her eyes wobbling. “A brick?”
“Mm. In case a client gets drunk and tries something during a dinner. I’m prepared.”
Ye Nanning swallowed hard, processing the statement with difficulty, then nodded slowly. “Got it. I learned something.”
As the elevator doors closed, Du Xiran glanced at her. Seeing her utterly bewildered expression, she pressed her lips together unsuccessfully and burst out laughing. “You actually believed that?”
Ye Nanning: “So… it’s not a brick?”
Du Xiran: “Of course not. Just a few cans of pepper spray.”
Ye Nanning: !!!
Seeing her stunned face, Du Xiran laughed even harder. She poked Ye Nanning’s forehead. “You believed that too? How are you this easy to fool? You can’t be this gullible during negotiations.”
Ye Nanning touched the spot where she’d been poked warm. She muttered under her breath, “I only fall for your tricks.”
