I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 14
On Monday, Ye Nanning got up early. The thought of seeing Du Xiran again today filled her with energy.
It was still early before work started, so she went for a half-hour run, then washed up briefly and sat in front of her vanity, staring at a pile of cosmetics in indecision.
Should she put on a really nice makeup look to impress Director Du?
…Forget it, forget it. It’s inappropriate to go overboard for work. She might expose her little intentions.
With that in mind, she only applied light makeup before heading out.
There wasn’t enough time to make breakfast herself. She grabbed two buns and a bottle of milk from the convenience store downstairs at the company.
While waiting for the elevator, someone walked up to greet her it was Yan Zhenghao.
“What a coincidence. Good morning,” Yan said, and the intern next to him, Hu Hanqiao, also looked over at her.
Another intern walked in from outside. After greeting everyone, she said with a gossipy smile, “What’s going on with you two? I just saw you getting out of Yan Zhenghao’s car, Hu Hanqiao.”
Hu Hanqiao only smiled faintly, but Yan immediately turned to explain to Ye Nanning, “We live pretty close to each other. I happened to run into her on the way, so I gave her a ride.”
Ye Nanning nodded vaguely, not wanting to talk with them. When the elevator doors opened, she quickly stepped in. Yan and the other intern followed.
Hu Hanqiao, however, stayed outside, looking displeased as the door closed.
Yan glanced at the breakfast in Ye Nanning’s hand. “Is that all you’re eating? I still have some bread and coffee upstairs. Do you want…”
Ye Nanning raised a hand to refuse, eyes fixed anxiously on the elevator numbers. As soon as she reached her desk, she hurried over, dropped her bag, and started bonking her head against it.
“Are you worshipping something?” a cool voice sounded above her.
Ye Nanning felt an instant burst of joy but kept her expression blank as she looked up. “Good morning, Director Du.”
“It’s not morning anymore.” Du Xiran raised the coffee in her hand. “I’ve been here for over an hour already.”
Ye Nanning checked the time thank goodness, she wasn’t late.
“Have you eaten yet?” she asked.
Du lifted her coffee again. “Right here.”
“You can’t just drink coffee.” Ye Nanning split her buns and handed one to her.
Du looked at it and asked, “What kind of bun is this?”
“Beef and vermicelli.”
“What about that one?” Du pointed at the other bun on the table.
“Custard bun.”
Du handed the bun back. “I want the custard one.”
Ye Nanning: “……”
So picky.
After swapping buns with her, Du thanked her and started walking back to her office. Halfway there, she suddenly turned around. “By the way… why are you still worshipping that bag?”
Ye Nanning froze. Slowly lifting her head from the bag, she stiffly replied, “Praying for a big project?”
“With that time, you might as well work on your data.” Du sighed. “If you see Xu Huan later, tell her to come to my office.”
Ye Nanning nodded.
Ten minutes later, Xu Huan arrived just in time to clock in. She was taking documents out of her bag when Ye Nanning told her Du was looking for her. She rushed off immediately.
Ye opened her milk and glanced toward the office. She saw Xu Huan handing Du a bag of bread, and Du waved her off, pointing at her own mouth.
Though she couldn’t hear the conversation, Ye could guess Du had already eaten the bun she gave her.
Realizing this possibility, Ye Nanning secretly rejoiced.
Director Du ate her bun! So happy! Another wonderful workday!
“how’s your data compilation going? I might need to check it early to prevent mistakes,” a colleague to her right said.
“Give me a second.”
Ye Nanning quickly sent the nearly finished documents over. After a while, the colleague said, “Looks good. Just follow this plan should be no big issues. Whew, now I can relax.”
Ye also felt relieved. She knew they still didn’t fully trust a newcomer like her, so she wanted to do even better.
The office filled with keyboard clicks and ringing phones. While Ye was absorbed in work, Xu Huan returned and slumped over her desk.
Ye gave her a puzzled look.
“I’m doomed,” Xu Huan groaned. “Why can’t I clone myself? There’s too much to do.”
“What happened?” Ye sipped her milk.
“You heard during the meeting, right? I’m handling the listing project and also the acquisition documents. And just now, Director Du asked if I have time to travel with her.”
Travel?
“The acquisition project tomorrow?” Ye remembered the phone call she overheard in Du’s car Saturday night.
“Yeah…wait, how do you know it’s tomorrow?”
Ye nodded. Thankfully, Xu didn’t question further. “Why did she ask you? Is everyone else busy?”
“Look at them. They’re even busier than I am.” Xu sighed, rubbing her head until her hair was messy. She didn’t bother fixing it. “If only you had joined earlier, maybe you’d already be familiar enough to go on business trips with Director Du.”
“I can,” Ye said suddenly.
“You can what?”
“Go on the trip with her.”
Xu slowly sat up. “Seriously? Business trips aren’t as fun as you think they’re not vacations. It’s tiring, lots of miscellaneous tasks.”
“I can.”
If she could go with Director Du, she could do anything.
“…Then I’ll go ask her?”
Ye nodded fiercely.
Go on, Pikachu Huan! I await your triumphant return!
A few minutes later, Xu came back excitedly. “Director Du wants you in her office!”
The two secretly high-fived. Ye walked into the office.
“Sit,” Du said. Her eyes paused. “You brought your milk in?”
Ye froze, lowering her head to look at the milk in her hand. She gave an embarrassed smile. “I forgot.”
“Sit first.” Du continued, “We’re going to Z City this time. It’s a bit far. You’re sure you can go with me?”
“Yes.”
“Do you have any business trip experience?”
Ye shook her head.
“Do you know what you’ll need to do?”
“I roughly know,” she answered based on instinct. “Book the hotel, accompany you to meet clients, take meeting notes, things like that.”
Du nodded. “Alright. This trip doesn’t require complicated negotiation skills. Since everyone else is unavailable, you’ll go. Go to HR later and get the external travel form approved, then book the hotel and flight. Bring the receipts back for reimbursement.”
“Okay.”
Ye completed all the tasks, wrapped up all her work for the day, submitted the documents that needed submitting, and finally went home to pack.
The next morning, she pulled her suitcase out early and waited at the school gate for Du so they could head to the airport together.
A car stopped in front of her. Du rolled down the window and looked at the girl wearing sunglasses and a bun. “Miss, are you going on vacation?”
Ye froze.
“I’m joking. Get in.”
Ye dragged her suitcase to the trunk. Seeing Du getting out to help, she quickly said, “You don’t need to help. I can do it myself.”
Du leaned against the car lazily. “Who said I was helping you? I’m going to the passenger seat. You’re driving.”
“…Oh. Okay.”
Ye put the suitcase in, got into the driver’s seat, and had barely started the engine when Du asked lazily, “What did you just call me? You? Do you think I’m old?”
Ye: !!
“No, I’m just… being respectful?” she said awkwardly.
“…”
Du took out an eye mask and put it on. “Shut up. Wake me when we arrive.”
Half an hour later, Ye parked the car and whispered, “Director Du… Director Du?”
No response.
She unbuckled, leaned closer, and whispered, “If you don’t wake up, the plane will take off without us…”
“You couldn’t call a little louder?” Du lifted her hand and took off the eye mask. Seeing Ye’s face extremely close, she paused.
Ye’s body stiffened. She didn’t dare move. She blinked. “I didn’t want to wake you too abruptly.”
“I told you not to call me you.” Du grabbed her cheek with one hand.
Ye’s lips were squished into a pout: ?
No way… no way?!
Was Director Du about to kiss her?
How should she react? Should she close her eyes?
Ye slowly shut her eyes.
Then she heard Du ask, “Your makeup looks good today. What foundation are you using?”
Ye: “……”
Du tilted her face left and right, still pinching her cheek. “Come on, what brand of foundation?”
Ye murmured, “I’m not using foundation. I’m naturally beautiful.”
“You think I’ll believe that?” Du released her and unbuckled her seat belt. “Don’t let me see a makeup bag in your suitcase.”
Ye grinned. “You’re pretty too. What foundation do you use?”
Du turned toward her, leaning in seriously.
Ye’s breathing went erratic. Her fingers curled nervously.
“If you dare say you again…” Du poked her forehead with a finger and smiled wickedly. “I’ll make you remove your makeup right here.”
Ye: “……”
What a vicious woman!
I love her so much!
