I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 12
The gym was bustling with people. A sales associate stood outside the reception room, waiting for the people inside to finish catching up so he could go in and close the deal.
Inside the reception room, two cups of hot water were steaming on the table.
Ye Nanning picked up the cup in front of her, holding it between her palms, blowing on the surface of the water trying to distract herself.
But the next second, Du Xiran pressed on, asking, “So why did you come here?”
Ye Nanning lowered her head and took a sip.
“Tss…ha.”
It burned her.
Her expression shifted several times.
“Wait before you drink it.” Du Xiran tried not to laugh as she took the cup away from her. Then she pulled a bottle of mineral water from her bag and added some to the cup. “Try it now.”
Ye Nanning took two more sips. “Okay.”
“So, tell me. Why are you here?”
Ye Nanning stayed silent. Silent again. Then drank more water.
“Tss…..ha.” Expressionless.
Du Xiran: “Keep pretending.”
Ye Nanning: “……”
“Don’t you live at B University?” Du Xiran asked.
Ye Nanning nodded.
“B University is really far from here. It makes no sense for you to sign up for a gym this far away. What is the real reason?” Du Xiran couldn’t help recalling what those interns had said. She paused, then tentatively asked, “Don’t tell me… you don’t actually live on campus?”
“I do. But… I live off campus.” Ye Nanning said softly.
But in Du Xiran’s eyes, this was clearly the guilty look of someone hiding something. She sighed. “Didn’t you say you’re single?”
Ye Nanning quickly shot her a glance. “I am.”
“Renting off campus is expensive. Who’s paying for it?”
“M-my family.”
Du Xiran looked at her, not wanting to dig further. She only said, “This gym is too expensive. You haven’t even been paid yet, and you have rent to cover. Sign up later.”
Ye Nanning nodded.
“And your figure isn’t bad at all, actually,” Du Xiran added.
Ye Nanning instinctively straightened her back. “Really?”
Du Xiran looked her over again carefully. Her gaze made Ye Nanning so embarrassed she almost shrank, fingers tapping the rim of her cup, until she finally heard Du Xiran say: “Mm. Very nice.”
Ye Nanning: Even if I die now, I’ll die happy!
Du Xiran opened the door, and the sales associate immediately walked in. “Beauty, if you sign up today I can give you a discount. And since your friend Miss Du is also here, you two can work out together how nice would that be?”
Ye Nanning felt tempted all over again.
But Du Xiran stopped the salesperson. “Don’t try to sell her anything. She’s an intern. She’s broke.”
Ye Nanning: “……” Should I… stop pretending?
The salesperson tried again but was forced back by Du Xiran’s stern refusal.
Du Xiran turned back. “Come on. Let’s head back.”
Ye Nanning slung her bag over her shoulder and followed behind, replaying the entire conversation in her mind.
After they reached the first floor, Du Xiran noticed how distracted she looked and frowned. “You really want to join this gym?”
Ye Nanning instinctively nodded.
“It’s so far from where you live. Is it because they have something you like here, or… are you waiting to run into someone?”
Ye Nanning froze, staring at her in shock.
Was this… a woman’s sixth sense?
Had President Du already figured out her feelings?
If she asked directly, what should she do?
Tell the truth? Hide everything?
And what face was she supposed to make?
“So I guessed right,” Du Xiran said, walking toward the parking garage. She opened the car door, then looked back. “How did you even get here?”
Ye Nanning looked confused, blinking: You don’t have any other questions?
Du Xiran: “You’re waiting to catch a ride with me?”
Free ride? Of course!
Ye Nanning slipped into the passenger seat fluently, fastened her seatbelt, and looked at her obediently.
Du Xiran: “……”
Faced with such innocent and sincere eyes, it was hard for anyone to refuse.
As she started driving, Du Xiran said, “If you really want to join this gym, then join. As long as you feel the effort is worth the return. Don’t abandon yourself just for the sake of some so-called opportunity.”
Ye Nanning’s eyes kept drifting to Du Xiran’s hands turning the wheel. The words went a bit over her head, but she still nodded showing she was listening seriously to her boss’s advice.
The phone rang. Du Xiran glanced at the caller ID it was a client. She turned on the car’s Bluetooth and answered, talking as if Ye Nanning weren’t there at all.
They discussed the acquisition case for a while. Du Xiran said, “Okay, I’ll keep that in mind. I’ll visit your company next week to check the situation… Ah, it’s not at headquarters? Then could you give me the address of the branch office?”
As the other party spoke, Du Xiran unable to take notes while driving was about to ask them to text her. But at that moment she noticed Ye Nanning leaning over with her phone open to the Notes app.
Du Xiran shot her a surprised glance and said into the phone, “All right, go ahead… Wuyuan District, Z City… Tuesday at 10 a.m.”
After confirming again, she hung up, kept her eyes on the road, and asked, “Got it?”
“Mm.” Ye Nanning took a screenshot and sent it to Du Xiran. Then she stared at their chat window, secretly delighted.
Another message in their chat history. Hehe.
“You really are quite sharp,” Du Xiran said. Then, realizing she’d been repeating that a lot lately, added with some emotion, “Mm. Truly sharp.”
Ye Nanning wanted to say:
I’m not just sharp. I’m also gentle, beautiful, kind, generous, sweet or cool on demand, and I like you very, VERY much. Want to consider me?
But she didn’t dare.
Her inner drama had already planned where they would register their marriage, yet on the surface she remained calm, aloof, desireless.
Yes, that was Ye Nanning.
When they stopped at a red light, Du Xiran looked out the window, seemed to think of something, and suddenly opened Weibo. She clicked open that small influencer’s food recommendations. One of the listed restaurants seemed to be nearby.
She opened the location only a few hundred meters away.
“Have you eaten?” Du Xiran suddenly asked.
Ye Nanning blinked. Then blinked again. She slowly shook her head. “No.”
“I haven’t either. Want to get something to eat?”
Bingo! Nailed it!
Ye Nanning nodded, secretly fiddling with her seatbelt, happiness bubbling inside.
She was going to eat with President Du!
Whatever rounding up, this was basically a date!
The car stopped by the curb. After getting out, Ye Nanning realized the area looked familiar. Wasn’t this where she often came?
There was a private kitchen restaurant she liked. Wonder if President Du would like it.
“Let’s try that private kitchen place,” Du Xiran said, lifting her chin toward a direction.
Ye Nanning followed her gaze. “!!!”
What was this?
This was chemistry! Fate!
Clearly, they were meant to be.
Feeling smug, Ye Nanning happily followed her inside.
Du Xiran chose a corner seat. “Do you have anything you don’t eat?”
Ye Nanning: No cilantro. No okra.
The waiter came to introduce the specialty and signature dishes. After listening, Du Xiran ordered two or three items and finally asked, “Stir-fried okra with beef sounds good. Do you eat okra?”
Ye Nanning stiffly nodded.
“And drinks? Anything you want? Or milk tea?”
Ye Nanning: Milk tea. Snowberry osmanthus jelly, 70% sugar, less ice, add pudding and boba, cheese cap separately, take out, thank you.
Du Xiran picked up her cup of eight-treasure tea, tasted it, and said with surprise, “Oh? This is pretty good. I’ll just have this. How about you?”
Ye Nanning picked up her cup and took a sip. “……I’ll have this too.”
