I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 11
After another round of communication, Du Xiran finally figured it out the “scale” the blogger mentioned was actually a kitchen digital scale, specifically for weighing ingredients.
She hurriedly ordered one online, then promised the blogger she would relearn everything next time.
Under the Tree Grandpa: “Just practice more and you’ll naturally get it”
Dududu: “I don’t really have that much time to cook. I usually just order takeout.”
Du Xiran waited for a minute without a reply. She assumed the blogger had gone off to deal with something. With over a hundred thousand followers, the fact that he was willing to answer such trivial questions was already very kind no need to keep dragging him into her daily life.
Just as she put down her phone, it vibrated again.
She opened it to find the blogger had sent her several links all highly rated takeout restaurants.
This was… too kind, wasn’t it?
Dududu:
(typing… stops)
Under the Tree Grandpa: “Oh right! I forgot to ask you’re from City B, right?”
Dududu: “Fortunately, yes, I am.”
Under the Tree Grandpa: “Me too! What a coincidence!”
Dududu: “Handshake. I saw on your Weibo that you recently got a new job?”
Under the Tree Grandpa: “Yep! The new job is pretty good, it’s just that the interpersonal stuff is a bit stressful. Life is hard… cat-sigh.jpg”
Dududu: “Maybe it’s because you haven’t blended in yet. It should get better once you’re used to it.”
Under the Tree Grandpa: “Hope your words come true! Hug.jpg”
Hmm… quite enthusiastic. They must be pretty young.
Du Xiran cooperatively replied with a hugging emoji, feeling her own mood become lighter.
Speaking of interpersonal issues last night when she dropped Xu Huan off, Xu had casually mentioned that Ye Nanning seemed to be getting excluded.
She had never supervised an intern before. She could give guidance on work matters, but interpersonal relationships were harder to judge. She wasn’t sure if Ye Nanning was keeping her distance voluntarily or actually being isolated.
As a supervisor, it didn’t feel appropriate to pry into such personal matters. At a time like this, what should a good leader do?
She thought for a moment, then asked:
Dududu: “Grandpa, if I may ask your interpersonal issues, is it with colleagues or with your leader?”
Under the Tree Grandpa: “Ah, just a couple of colleagues! My leader is super nice!”
Under the Tree Grandpa: “The! BEST! LEA! DER! in the whole world!”
Even through a screen, the rainbow flattery was obvious. So the leader must actually be great.
So enviable… If only her subordinates and interns could be this sensible.
Dududu: “Do you want your leader to help you solve the issues with your coworkers?”
Under the Tree Grandpa:
“Of course not! I can handle it myself. And even if I can’t, I wouldn’t want her to know. It’s too embarrassing….waaahhhh.”
Du Xiran laughed.
Then she shouldn’t interfere. Let Ye Nanning resolve things herself.
Under the Tree Grandpa: “I’m going to work now, 88.”
Du Xiran blinked before realizing what “88” meant and replied:
Dududu: “…Bye.”
Ah… so this is what generational gap feels like?
After lunch, Ye Nanning continued working on her thesis, and accidentally worked until evening.
Her phone rang. Seeing who it was, her finger hesitated before she finally answered.
“Are you busy?” Ye Tingyuan asked.
“Writing my thesis.”
“Are you coming home tomorrow?”
“Probably not, still pretty busy.” She answered stiffly.
There was a pause on the other end before he said, “Alright then, keep working.” Then he hung up.
He sounded… upset?
Ye Nanning stared at her phone in confusion. Shouldn’t her not going back be better? Less chance of disturbing that brat’s weekend with his family.
Thinking of something else, she slumped over her desk, feeling dejected as she scrolled through her phone. When she accidentally opened her gallery and saw a photo of that sleeping beauty on her screen, she woke up instantly. She stared carefully, saved it into a private album, and titled it “Sunshine.”
That night, after running a bit on her treadmill, her phone started ringing nonstop. Perfect timing for a break she picked it up.
The group chat already had dozens of new messages, but there were also a few private messages. She clicked on Yan Zhenghao’s first.
– Have you eaten?
– I found a super good Japanese restaurant today. Want to try it together next time?
– Hu Hanqiao and I are just old classmates. We barely kept in touch during college. I didn’t expect we’d intern together. If she said anything inappropriate, I apologize.
Ye Nanning only replied to the key part:
– Next time, I’ll just take you myself.
Then she added:
Ye Nanning: “Forget it if you don’t want to talk.”
She ignored him after that and checked the work group chat. Her teammates were all showing off their dinner.
Scrolling up, she finally understood they were posting food pics to tempt Du Xiran.
Du Xiran: “I’m working out, not chatting.”
*– We’re feasting over here, but you’re secretly working out behind our backs?! Trying to outdo us?? Unforgivable! Look at my crab!”
– “My laoganma fried rice won’t lose!”
– “My barbecue! Barbecue!”
– “Is Princess Du at Mingshang again?”
Ye Nanning looked it up: Mingshang Fitness 10 km away.
She stared at her home treadmill and muttered, “It’s been two or three years… the functions must be degrading, right? Maybe I should buy a better one?”
And so, she immediately changed into casual clothes and took a taxi to Mingshang.
Half an hour later, she stepped into the gym. Her confused, observing expression immediately drew the attention of a salesperson, who approached to introduce the facilities and give her a tour.
Ye Nanning kept a slight distance as she quietly scanned the area. After a full round, she still didn’t see the person she wanted.
Did she already leave?
“Miss, would you like to sign up for a membership?” the salesperson asked hopefully.
Ye Nanning nodded. She definitely planned to eventually they’d run into each other.
Just as she was about to sign, the salesperson suddenly called out:
“Miss Du, heading out already?”
Ye Nanning’s pen froze. Behind her came a faint “Mm.”
That voice she’d recognize it even as a ghost.
They say impulse shopping is bad, but impulsive decisions of any kind are terrible. The approaching footsteps grew closer, and Ye Nanning began to panic.
Would Du Xiran ask why she came all the way from B University to this gym? Would she suspect ulterior motives?
Thinking this, Ye Nanning slowly lowered her head, almost curling up entirely, pushing her chair backward as she frantically chanted internally:
You can’t see me you can’t see me you can’t see me…
Du Xiran had been looking straight ahead, but the figure sitting crookedly at an angle caught her eye.
The next second, she stepped forward quickly. “Careful!”
Thud.
The sound of a chair tipping over and a person hitting the floor.
Everyone turned to look. The girl who had been sitting just now had somehow fallen straight off the chair, landing flat on her butt.
Laughter erupted across the gym.
Ye Nanning: “…………”
Ah yes another day wishing for a world reset. 🙂
Even the salesperson was stunned.
Du Xiran walked forward and grabbed her arm. “Are you alright? Does your butt hurt?”
Ye Nanning desperately turned her head away, burying her face against the railing beside her, wanting to disappear entirely.
Du Xiran: ???
“Do you… know me?” She directly took Ye Nanning’s chin and turned her face. Surprised, she said, “Oh…it’s you?”
Ye Nanning’s face was stiff, voice as soft as a mosquito: “Hi?”
Du Xiran: “…Hello?”
