I Revealed My True Identity After Confessing My Love - Chapter 10
“What are you doing?” Du Xiran asked, staring at her phone.
Ye Nanning’s brain was running at full speed, almost crashing, before she finally came up with a good idea: “…Guess?”
Du Xiran: “Guess if I’m going to guess?”
Ye Nanning nodded: “You guess then.”
“Who wants to guess this stuff?” Du Xiran was almost speechless.
Ye Nanning nervously looked at her phone, noticed the camera, and with a flash of inspiration, she secretly pressed her finger in the opposite direction and stiffly raised a peace sign: “I… I’m taking a selfie.”
Du Xiran asked, “Didn’t you say in the group chat that you didn’t have any selfies?”
Ye Nanning: So you were spying on me?!
Ye Nanning said stiffly, “That’s why I thought I’d take one now.”
Du Xiran carefully observed her zombie-like expression and movements, then slowly closed her eyes: “Maybe don’t take one. You’re not photogenic.”
Ye Nanning lowered her head in frustration and put away her phone.
“You already look very beautiful in person,” Du Xiran added.
Ye Nanning looked up, flattered, like a sunflower instantly facing its sun.
Du Xiran still had her eyes closed: “But don’t become arrogant or use your beauty recklessly. It’s best to work conscientiously.”
The sunflower wilted again.
A moment later, the sunflower said, “I will work hard.”
“Mmm, that’s good,” Du Xiran curved her lips slightly.
After arriving at B University, Du Xiran stopped Ye Nanning as she was getting out of the car: “I heard you prepared breakfast for everyone in the group today?”
“Yes,” Ye Nanning stood by the roadside and asked the person in the car, “What do you want to eat tomorrow?”
Du Xiran waved her hand: “Don’t make breakfast for everyone. You should use that time to rest well. They are not short of money, so how can we let an intern like you bring them food?”
Ye Nanning wanted to say that the food wasn’t expensive anyway making one portion was the same as making nine!
“What if they get used to your contributions, and then if you stop making it one day, they resent you?” Du Xiran asked.
Ye Nanning paused, realizing that was a problem she had overlooked.
“It’s understandable to want to build good relationships with colleagues, but don’t have this kind of monetary exchange too frequently, and don’t put yourself in too humble a position, understand?” Du Xiran said.
Ye Nanning nodded: “Then I’ll just make mine tomorrow… and yours?”
Du Xiran chuckled: “What would that make me? I’ll take care of my own breakfast. You should worry more about yourself. I’m leaving.”
After the car drove away, Ye Nanning finally turned and walked towards her apartment. It was a bit chilly at night, but her heart felt warm. She looked up at the moon and smiled.
The next three days, work continued as usual. Ye Nanning had a rough grasp of the work content and was proceeding methodically, but problems in interpersonal relationships did, as expected, arise.
She was isolated again.
But the people isolating her felt that she was the one who was too unsociable.
Ye Nanning really wanted to grab their ears and ask: You’re all isolating me, why should I eagerly try to join your group?!
But she was timid and didn’t dare to ask, so she could only quietly do her own thing and didn’t want any unnecessary conflict with them.
The older employees also noticed this issue. After all, when lunchtime arrived, the interns would gather around to chat, leaving only Ye Nanning alone.
Colleagues from other groups weren’t familiar with Ye Nanning at most, they were nodding acquaintances so they naturally felt uncomfortable intervening.
Xu Huan, who was slightly closer to her, couldn’t help but ask with concern, “Did you guys have a fight?”
Ye Nanning shook her head; it was a one-sided argument only.
“Then why didn’t they call you for lunch? And look at Yan Zhenghao, he keeps looking over here,” Xu Huan said.
Ye Nanning buried her head even lower.
Xu Huan burst out laughing: “You don’t like him?”
Ye Nanning nodded.
“Then you have pretty high standards. I heard his family owns property locally, he drives a four ring car to work, and he looks decent at least he’s not bald yet. By our common standards, his conditions are quite good,” Xu Huan glanced at her and felt a profound realization that when the goddess Nuwa molded people, she really didn’t follow an assembly line standard how could the difference be so huge!
“But a beauty like you can definitely find someone better. There are so many men of all kinds. What kind of person do you like? Tell me?”
Ye Nanning blinked: I like women.
Xu Huan didn’t get an answer but wasn’t in a rush; it was just a casual gossip moment.
She then asked, “How’s the model coming along?”
“Almost done.”
“Alright, let me check it once it’s finished.”
Ye Nanning glanced around the office and casually asked, “General Manager Du seems very busy these past two days. She hasn’t been to the company much.”
“Oh, she’s away on a business trip,” Xu Huan said.
“How do you know?”
“I asked her on WeChat,” Xu Huan said nonchalantly.
Ye Nanning was so envious!
When could she be brave enough to ask General Manager Du on WeChat if she had eaten? If she had slept? Why she hadn’t come to the company?
After work on Friday, many people breathed a sigh of relief and started planning dinner, karaoke, or heading home early to spend time with their spouses and children.
The interns were going out for a meal, and Yan Zhenghao ran over and asked, “Ye Nanning, are you coming to the gathering?”
Ye Nanning glanced over. Seven or eight people were waiting by the elevator, chatting happily in a cluster.
“No,” she replied. She wouldn’t go and spoil their fun.
Yan Zhenghao nodded disappointedly: “Alright then, maybe another time.”
Ye Nanning tidied up her desk, grabbed her bag, and was about to leave when Du Xiran stepped out of the elevator: “Oh, you guys haven’t left yet.”
“General Manager Du, you’re finally back!” Xu Huan tapped her keyboard with tears of joy. “It’s after work, why are you coming to the company?”
“To grab something, I’ll be leaving right away. Want to come along?”
“Wait, almost done.” Xu Huan quickly shut down her computer, clutched a document, and followed behind her. “Are you driving back? Could you give me a ride? I have to go back and continue working overtime.”
As the group stepped into the elevator, Xu Huan asked a barrage of questions. Du Xiran’s ears hurt from the noise and she said, “Couldn’t you be more like Ye Nanning, quiet and a beautiful young woman?”
“I’m not a beautiful young woman, so I naturally can’t stay quiet,” Xu Huan laughed.
Ye Nanning’s heart blossomed with shyness. The next moment, hearing Du Xiran call her name, she looked at her with immediate anticipation.
“Xu Huan’s place isn’t on your way, and she needs to go back to work overtime, so I’m dropping her off today. You can figure out if you want to take a taxi or the bus. You’re familiar with the route home now, right?”
Ye Nanning nodded, a slight sense of disappointment in her heart.
So, General Manager Du often drives colleagues home. She was only dropping me off the past few days to help me memorize the route…
No, no, Ye Nanning, you are being too greedy now!
The next day, Ye Nanning indulged in a rare lie-in, waking up past ten o’clock. It was just the right time to start preparing lunch, so she decided to film a video.
Lunch was simple: Omurice (omelet rice) and a slow-simmered yam and pork rib soup.
After posting the video, some loyal fans quickly claimed their spots in the comment section, praising her Omurice as the most amazing egg dish on earth.
She also received a few more private messages. She randomly opened a few and noticed one was asking about the cooking method.
Dududu: [Grandpa, I want to try this Omurice too. Is there a recipe?]
Grandpa Under the Tree: [It’s all noted in the video.]
Dududu: [I know, but I wanted to ask how big is the “half a spoon of salt” written in the video? And how many grams is the “some” amount of rice?]
Ye Nanning: ?????
So detailed and serious?
Grandpa Under the Tree: [Wait a moment.]
While waiting, Du Xiran looked at the burnt Omurice in the pan and sighed deeply.
She finally managed to wake up early, saw the blogger’s newly posted video, felt a bit tempted, and got inspired to try making it. However, she failed right away.
The reason must be that the recipe wasn’t detailed enough, leading to the mistake, or maybe it was the gas stove and the pan’s fault. Anyway, it couldn’t possibly be her own fault.
Just then, the blogger finally responded, listing the amount of each ingredient in grams.
Du Xiran carefully recorded everything and then asked: [These things are so light, how do you weigh them?]
Grandpa Under the Tree: [Use a scale.]
Du Xiran took a picture of the bowl on her body weight scale and sent it: [It’s too light, it can’t even show the grams.]
Grandpa Under the Tree: [????????]
Grandpa Under the Tree: […You can do it. You are very strong.]
Du Xiran: ? Was I complimented?
Seriously, it’s making me a little embarrassed.
