“I want a divorce.”
Those were the words spoken by the man who should have been her childhood friend turned husband, the fulfillment of her long-unrequited love.
Lady Mirabelle of the Lumière earldom had three childhood friends: the Hylas brothers, Ludovic and Ricardo, and Marietta, daughter of the Fleur earldom.
The bond between the four, who had spent their entire childhoods together, gradually changed as they grew older. The Hylas brothers were drawn to Marietta, while Mirabelle fell for Ricardo.
Eventually, Ludovic and Marietta became engaged, and Mirabelle decided to distance herself from the three to forget her feelings for Ricardo. But fate intervened when Mirabelle’s parents died in an accident, altering the course of all their lives.
In her grief, Ricardo proposed marriage, and the two wed. Though engulfed in sorrow, Mirabelle found solace in the fulfillment of her long-held love.
“I want a divorce.”
Upon learning of Ludovic and Marietta’s divorce, Ricardo said those words to Mirabelle.
To Ricardo, Mirabelle had only ever been a convenient means to remain close to Marietta.
“As you wish, we shall divorce.”
I no longer need someone as selfish as you.
Mirabelle cast aside her feelings for Ricardo and resolved to walk forward as a new woman.
By doing so, new paths and new worlds unfolded before her, transforming the circumstances surrounding her life.
And so—
“Please, come back to me.”
Even if Ricardo begged now, his words would mean nothing.
Because he was no longer someone she needed.
