I Just Want to be a Throwaway Character - Chapter 9
Chapter 9: The Best in the World
Soon after, Bai Weiwei and Lin Luo also came out.
The funny thing was that Lin Luo was crying with snot and tears running down her face, clinging to the arm of the much smaller but calm Bai Weiwei, her steps weak and shaky.
So you can end up with others in the haunted house, Ji Wan thought, without dwelling on why Gu Nianqing happened to find her.
She quickly ran over, pulled the weak-legged Lin Luo away, and threw herself into Bai Weiwei’s arms, acting like a child guarding a piece of candy.
“Don’t you dare touch my Weiwei!” she warned, looking with disdain at Lin Luo’s pathetic state.
“Ji Xiaowan, you’re being so unfair.”
Lin Luo’s face was pale and her steps were wobbly as she leaned against a nearby utility pole, weakly protesting. She was clearly traumatized.
Ji Wan just pouted, ignoring Lin Luo. She knew that soon, Lin Luo would differentiate into an S-class Alpha, while her Weiwei was a future SS-class, exceptionally beautiful Omega. She couldn’t let Lin Luo get the upper hand.
The haunted house adventure ended with Ji Wan mocking Lin Luo, although she wasn’t really in a position to laugh.
Watching the girl pull the other gentle beauty away, Gu Nianqing picked up her own hand and examined it closely. She seemed to be reminiscing about something, showing no sign of the disgust she usually felt from being touched.
Another Night in Gu Nianqing’s Room
Back at the hotel, it was already late. Ji Wan walked to her original room door. Ah, she had forgotten to call for maintenance, but she didn’t think much of it. She assumed a five-star hotel would be quick and proactive with repairs.
She flicked the light switch, and nothing happened. Ji Wan kept pressing the switch over and over, still with no reaction. She puffed up like a pufferfish. “This terrible hotel! I’m going to file a complaint!”
Ji Wan hadn’t closed her door, and Gu Nianqing could clearly see the girl’s annoyed expression from her own doorway.
“Looks like I have to go to Weiwei’s,” Ji Wan thought, pulling out her phone to text Bai Weiwei.
As if sensing her intention, Gu Nianqing leaned against Ji Wan’s doorframe, her arms crossed over her chest. Her simple white outfit highlighted her cool, noble demeanor.
“It’s five hundred meters to the West Wing. The hallway is empty at night. Are you really going to make Bai Weiwei walk all the way over here to get you?” Gu Nianqing said, leaning closer to Ji Wan and chuckling softly. “Or are you excited to walk there by yourself?”
Gu Nianqing’s sudden closeness made Ji Wan’s face blush. But she quickly understood. Gu Nianqing was worried about her future wife! She looked at Gu Nianqing with a complicated expression, realizing she really didn’t have the guts to walk there alone. Ji Wan relented and walked into Gu Nianqing’s room. She swore she would complain about this hotel tomorrow.
The first time is awkward, the second is familiar. Soaking in the luxurious bathtub in Gu Nianqing’s room, Ji Wan sighed contentedly. The splashing of her small hands caused ripples to spread across the water. Her soft, delicate voice had a hint of alluring maturity, sparking a vivid imagination.
In the room, Gu Nianqing could clearly hear Ji Wan’s quiet movements through the wall. The book in her hand had stopped turning. She tightened her grip slightly as a strange heat began to rise within her. Gu Nianqing turned to look at the sea view outside the window. In the moonlight, the waves shimmered like silver scales, rushing back and forth like playful children.
With a click, Ji Wan finished her bath and came out. She saw the female lead standing by the window, quietly gazing at the sea below. Moonlight bathed her perfect profile, making her look like a goddess from Greek mythology, a figure countless warriors would fight and die for. Ji Wan shamelessly stared at her again. She really wasn’t someone who easily went gaga over people!
Hearing the sound, Gu Nianqing turned her head. She saw the girl with her hair still dripping wet, her bright eyes looking lost, and her fair cheeks flushed from the steam. Seeing her staring blankly, Gu Nianqing’s heart inexplicably sped up. Afraid that Ji Wan would see her blushing, she quickly turned away and sat back down on the sofa, picking up her unfinished book.
Ji Wan thought she was being rejected and didn’t dare to bother Gu Nianqing. She obediently lay on the bed and started playing on her phone. After just a quick wipe with a dry towel, she tossed it aside and started her game.
Lying on the soft hotel pillow, Ji Wan gradually became sleepy, only halfway through her game. She wanted to fight the urge to sleep, telling herself she would just close her eyes for a bit. Then, she was completely out.
Sensing Ji Wan’s quietness, Gu Nianqing instinctively looked up from her book. The girl was sleeping face down, her hair still damp. One side of her face was turned toward her, breathing softly, in a deep slumber. The phone on the pillow next to her had already gone dark.
“Ji Wan,” Gu Nianqing put down her book and walked to Ji Wan’s bed, calling out to test her. Wet hair could make you sick. Ji Wan’s eyes would stay red for a long time after she cried, and she looked so delicate she couldn’t handle any stress.
Thinking of how pitiful Ji Wan would look tomorrow, sniffling with a red little nose, Gu Nianqing resigned herself to her fate. She picked up a hair dryer and gently began to blow dry Ji Wan’s soft, long black hair. Feeling the silky texture under her hand, Gu Nianqing seemed to understand why Bai Weiwei liked to pet Ji Wan’s head.
After the hair was dry, Gu Nianqing looked at the girl’s sleeping posture and gently lifted her up. She was very light, small and soft in her arms. “She’s so skinny. Where did all that food go?” Gu Nianqing thought with a frown.
She gently moved the girl into a more proper sleeping position and pulled the blanket over her. Watching the exceptionally well-behaved Ji Wan in her sleep, Gu Nianqing couldn’t help but reach out and gently touch her face. The sensation was exquisite, smooth and soft like fine silk, and sweet like a marshmallow. The face’s owner didn’t react at all, sleeping soundly like a lamb to the slaughter, completely unaware of her fate.
Gu Nianqing gazed at the girl’s face, a little lost in thought. She slowly leaned closer to Ji Wan’s sleeping face. Closer and closer, until she was about to touch that soft, red lip. Just as she was about to give in and kiss her, a phone suddenly rang.
Gu Nianqing’s head quickly pulled back from Ji Wan’s face, her expression a mix of confusion and panic. She nervously took a few steps back, picked up the noisy phone from the bedside table, and answered.
“Hey, Ji Xiaowan, let’s do some duos! Hurry, we’re waiting for you,” Lin Luo’s cheerful voice came through.
“She’s asleep,” Gu Nianqing said in a cold voice, realizing it wasn’t her own phone, and quickly hung up.
“Huh, who’s asleep?” Lin Luo asked, sitting in the middle of her big bed and playing her game. Then, all she heard was a dial tone… “Oh, it’s just Gu,” she thought, “she doesn’t play games, that’s normal.” Lin Luo continued to play her game.
…Wait a minute. I thought I called Ji Wan?
Lin Luo froze for a moment. Her hand stopped moving, the phone quickly played the “player defeated” sound. Lin Luo didn’t care about that. She quickly exited the game and checked her call history. Most recent call: Ji Wan.
“What the…?”
Lin Luo was shocked. Why was Gu Nianqing in Ji Wan’s room? Late at night, just the two of them. And she said, “She’s asleep.” What did they do?
Compared to Lin Luo’s chaotic emotions, Gu Nianqing, after hanging up, looked at Ji Wan, who was still sleeping soundly and unaffected by the noise. The warm, yellow light shone on the girl’s pale skin. In her sleep, her plump red lips looked soft and bouncy. Gu Nianqing’s heart was pounding. What was she about to do? She was about to kiss Ji Wan, kiss her when she was completely defenseless. She wanted to kiss Ji Wan until she couldn’t make a sound, until she was crying and begging for mercy.
Gu Nianqing’s face instantly flushed. What was she thinking?
She walked into the bathroom in a daze and turned on the faucet, splashing cold water on her face. The droplets ran down her perfect profile, dripping from her beautiful chin into the sink.
Silently looking at herself in the mirror, it was the first time in Gu Nianqing’s life that she felt so lost. She knew she had wanted to kiss Ji Wan just now, like a lover. It seemed she had fallen for Ji Wan, the very woman she had said she disliked. But she had also pushed Ji Wan away.
A mix of annoyance, regret, and a honey-like sweetness swirled inside Gu Nianqing. She walked back to Ji Wan’s bed, gazing at the girl’s lovely and delicate face. She reached out and gently stroked her cheek. Pushing the loose strands of hair from Ji Wan’s forehead, she leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her brow.
“You are mine,” the cool and noble girl, like a celestial being, whispered softly in Ji Wan’s ear. A hint of possessiveness and obsession filled her eyes.
A Shocking Secret
The next day, a well-rested Ji Wan sat obediently next to Bai Weiwei and ate, her cheeks stuffed like a hamster hoarding food. Across the table, Gu Nianqing had already finished her meal and was sitting there reading the newspaper, waiting for Ji Wan. A hint of doting affection was in her eyes as she looked at Ji Wan, but no one noticed.
“Eat slowly. No one is going to take it from you. Don’t choke,” Bai Weiwei said with a laugh, gently wiping food scraps from the corner of Ji Wan’s mouth with a handkerchief.
“Mmph, I won’t. Choking is impossible,” Ji Wan smiled at Bai Weiwei and then immediately picked up another piece of pastry and put it in her mouth.
“Okay. Whatever you say, my little one. Mommy believes you,” Bai Weiwei said gently, patting Ji Wan’s little head with a soft smile.
Gu Nianqing watched the mother-son scene with a cold gaze, a hint of jealousy in her heart.
Then, Ji Wan saw Lin Luo walking toward them from a distance. She looked haggard, with dark circles under her eyes from staying up all night, and her steps were wobbly.
Seeing Lin Luo in this state, Ji Wan laughed unkindly, forgetting about the food in her mouth.
“Cough, cough…” She choked.
A cup of water was handed to her just in time. Ji Wan grabbed it without thinking and took a few big gulps. Bai Weiwei quickly patted Ji Wan’s back. “Slow down. No one’s fighting you for it.”
“Mmph, thanks,” Ji Wan said, catching her breath and looking at Bai Weiwei. Bai Weiwei noticed that the cup of water came from Gu Nianqing, who had reacted twice as fast as she did. She looked at Ji Wan’s situation and didn’t think much more of it.
After recovering, Ji Wan jumped down from her seat and patted Lin Luo’s shoulder. “Haha… Lin Luo, did the haunted house scare you silly?”
Lin Luo just gave Ji Wan a resentful look and didn’t say a word, like a heartbroken woman in a lonely chamber. The amount of information she received last night was too much. She had stayed up all night thinking about it but couldn’t make sense of it. No one here would believe her guess.
Who would believe that Ji Wan and Gu Nianqing had something going on?!
“Lin Luo, what’s wrong? Tell me so I can get a laugh out of it.” Ji Wan ignored Lin Luo’s resentful gaze and teased her gleefully.
“It’s nothing… just… just stayed up all night playing games,” Lin Luo stammered after she saw Gu Nianqing give her a threatening look.
“Damn it, they definitely have something going on!”
“Alright,” Ji Wan felt she couldn’t get any more information and went back to her seat to continue hoarding food. Lin Luo felt like she had a grasp on some shocking secret, and her eyes on Ji Wan and Gu Nianqing were all wrong now.
