I Just Want to be a Throwaway Character - Chapter 6
Chapter 6: World One
Suddenly feeling a cold gaze on her back, Bai Weiwei instinctively turned her head.
She saw the subject of the photos her family had shown her hundreds of times—Gu Nianqing.
But her eyes seemed to carry a deeper coldness, a hint of dissatisfaction, and a faint touch of jealousy???
She only gave Bai Weiwei a quick look before lowering her head to continue reading.
Bai Weiwei had a strange feeling of being targeted, but she didn’t think much of it. After all, it was the first time she had met the Gu family heiress today.
She also found her little deskmate to be unexpectedly cute.
Meanwhile, Ji Wan was trying her best to build a good relationship with the protagonist’s true love.
This way, if Gu Nianqing ever wanted to bankrupt her family, she would have to consider Ji Wan’s “in-law” relationship.
Ji Wan didn’t notice Gu Nianqing’s complex, dark, and profound gaze toward her.
What Ji Wan didn’t know was that Gu Nianqing had already put Bai Weiwei on her rivalry list, in first place, in a place she couldn’t see.
The close, friendly interactions between the two girls were a complete eyesore in Gu Nianqing’s eyes. She watched as Ji Wan smiled sweetly. Her ponytail swayed with youthful energy as she chattered endlessly with Bai Weiwei. Then, she compared it to Ji Wan’s attitude toward her.
Gu Nianqing felt an inexplicable pain in her heart, and her pen, held with a little too much force, tore through the scratch paper.
This scene should have belonged to her. Yes, it should have belonged to Gu Nianqing.
Gu Nianqing didn’t know what was wrong with her. She had become concerned about Ji Wan, and she didn’t know when it started.
Perhaps it was when the girl swore she would never get close to her again. Perhaps it was the girl’s lively and cute personality. Perhaps it was her shy look, her annoyed look, her happy look, and her reaction when she acted deliberately cold.
Gu Nianqing had also been having strange dreams of Ji Wan lately.
In her dreams, a hazy, misty scene of a forest path would appear. She would see Ji Wan walking in front of her, still in her cute, girly clothes, but when she turned around, her face was cold and devoid of smiles.
Gu Nianqing’s heart would instantly feel a pain so sharp she couldn’t breathe. She would try to grab Ji Wan, but she would grab nothing.
Then, she would wake up, drenched in a cold sweat.
What was the old Ji Wan like? Gu Nianqing tried to remember, but her mind was a blank slate. There was nothing there.
All that remained was the girl’s recent, brilliant, and cute smile.
And the girl’s soft, yet firm words, spoken with every ounce of sincerity: “Listen up, my name is Ji Wan. I didn’t, don’t, and won’t ever like you in the future. You can rest assured. So stop with that contemptuous and sympathetic look. I won’t ever approach you on my own.”
Every time she remembered it, her heart would ache, and she couldn’t focus on the problems in her hand anymore.
But Gu Nianqing hadn’t realized yet that she had already fallen for Ji Wan.
She just thought she was inexplicably concerned about Ji Wan.
She wanted to see Ji Wan’s brilliant smile directed only at her, not at everyone.
She wanted Ji Wan to get close to her, not deliberately stay away.
She wanted Ji Wan to hold her hand too…
Gu Nianqing’s face suddenly flushed slightly. What was she thinking? Thinking about Ji Wan holding her hand?
“Hey, Old Gu, what’s wrong? Why is your face so red? Are you getting a cold?”
While chatting with Ji Wan and Bai Weiwei in front of her, Lin Luo caught a glimpse of a faint blush on her friend’s face, a face that was usually as cold as a thousand-year-old glacier.
Her expression was the same, but her complexion was completely off. Lin Luo asked with concern.
Ji Wan also looked at Gu Nianqing with a curious and puzzled expression.
“No way, no way. Gu Nianqing is the female protagonist of a novel. She’s going to be a strong Alpha in the future. How could she get sick?”
What she didn’t know was that the moment Ji Wan turned her head, Gu Nianqing’s face became even redder.
Bai Weiwei also looked over curiously. After all, the information she had on file stated that Gu Nianqing was a person who never showed her emotions.
“Heh, how interesting.”
“I’m fine,” Gu Nianqing replied, not elaborating. She quickly adjusted her expression and reverted to her iceberg-like appearance.
“Oh, good, you scared me.” Lin Luo patted her chest, a look of relief on her face.
But she found it odd that Gu Nianqing’s face seemed to have turned red when she saw Ji Wan.
“Mhm, it must be a delusion. How could Old Gu’s face turn red from seeing Little Ji Wan? Haha, it’s impossible even to imagine.”
What she didn’t know was that Gu Nianqing had insomnia that night because of Ji Wan.
…
The days passed with Ji Wan working hard to build a good relationship with Bai Weiwei.
During the long break between classes.
Ji Wan was happily chatting with Lin Luo and Bai Weiwei: “I heard a rumor. I was passing by the homeroom teacher’s office the other day and overheard them talking about a three-day, two-night field trip in Z City next week.”
The truth was that Ji Wan was secretly trying to get back the homework she was too lazy to finish the night before.
She had been squatting in a corner and eavesdropping on the teachers’ conversation on her way out.
“What kind of rumor is that? It’s all over the school forum,” Lin Luo said with disdain.
“Huh? What forum? How come I don’t know about it?” Ji Wan asked Lin Luo with a look of curiosity.
“Are you from the Stone Age or something? Our school’s forum has been around for years. It’s fun to browse. There’s a lot of information, although most of it is useless gossip.”
Lin Luo replied to Ji Wan with a look that suggested she was a moron.
“Lin Luo, what kind of look is that? I challenge you to a duel!!!” Angry cat.gif
Ji Wan nearly jumped up to hit Lin Luo with her fists, which were the size of sandbags.
Bai Weiwei watched Ji Wan waving her small fists with amusement. She gently patted her head to comfort her: “Okay, okay, Wanwan, don’t be angry. Next time, I’ll help you beat her up, okay?”
The comforting words, filled with laughter, quickly calmed Ji Wan down.
“Ah!!! What an angel.” Ji Wan’s mind was filled with praise. That dog of a woman, Gu Nianqing, sure got a good deal.
Ji Wan threw herself into Bai Weiwei’s arms and sighed. So fragrant and soft.
What a lovely beauty. It’s a shame she’s Gu Nianqing’s official partner. My heart aches.
“When the time comes, can we share a room, Big Sister Weiwei?”
Ji Wan got up from Bai Weiwei’s arms, hugged her arm, and shook it gently in a spoiled manner. Her soft, girlish voice caused many curious glances to be cast their way.
“If it’s possible, I’d be happy to, since you’re our baby Wanwan.”
Bai Weiwei couldn’t resist the girl’s soft, sweet voice and gently tapped Ji Wan’s forehead with her knuckle, agreeing.
After spending some time together, Bai Weiwei had come to understand Ji Wan’s character.
She was not the type of person who relentlessly pursued Gu Nianqing as the rumors suggested, nor was she cold to others.
She was just a little, walking sun and a clingy kitten. They had quickly become good friends.
Behind them, Gu Nianqing’s cold eyes were fixed on the hands of the two girls intertwined in front of her.
She took out her phone, composed a message, and sent it.
No one knew the content of the message except for her.
…
Soon, Ji Wan’s long-awaited group trip arrived.
That afternoon, she took her fully packed suitcase and got on the school bus.
The petite girl was carrying a suitcase as tall as half of her, and she was wearing a bucket hat.
Ji Wan was wearing a bright yellow dress, which made her look youthful and energetic.
She had a brilliant smile on her face and her small legs ran happily toward the bus.
After she had put her luggage away, only Lin Luo and Ji Wan were left to find seats. They walked onto the bus one after the other.
The bus was packed, with the only remaining seats being next to Bai Weiwei and Gu Nianqing.
Ji Wan happily waved to Bai Weiwei and bounced toward her.
Lin Luo reluctantly and slowly walked toward Gu Nianqing.
“Lin Luo, hurry up. Why are you so slow? A good dog doesn’t block the way.”
Seeing Lin Luo walking slowly and blocking the narrow aisle inside the bus, Ji Wan urged her on impatiently.
Lin Luo wanted to cry. She wanted to be fast.
But when she thought about having to sit with Gu Nianqing, the super-duper germaphobe, she wouldn’t be happy about it, no matter how good friends they were.
Who wanted to be stabbed by ice-cold eyes?
Lin Luo walked slowly, but then a thought suddenly flashed in her mind. She sped up, walked past Gu Nianqing, and sat directly next to Bai Weiwei two rows behind.
Then she leaned over and gave Ji Wan a provocative smile, exuding a sense of being an absolute jerk.
Looking at the only seat left, which was next to Gu Nianqing, and Lin Luo’s annoying expression, Ji Wan’s fists clenched.
She rushed over and pulled hard on Lin Luo’s arm: “You’re dead, Lin Luo. Are you looking for a fight? Get over here! Give me back my Big Sister Weiwei!”
But unfortunately, Ji Wan’s strength was limited. She pulled for a long time, but Lin Luo didn’t budge. It made her so angry that she wanted to bite Lin Luo to death.
“Ji Wan, what are you doing? The bus is about to leave. Go sit down.”
The homeroom teacher’s authoritative voice came from behind. Ji Wan turned to look at the teacher’s warning gaze, a look of grievance on her face.
“It’s okay, Wanwan. Go sit down for now. When we get off the bus, we can chat in the room, okay?”
Bai Weiwei’s gentle voice rang out. She watched the two of them jokingly show their disgust toward Gu Nianqing with a look of amusement.
Ji Wan had no other option.
She walked slowly to Gu Nianqing’s side and found that she was sitting on the aisle seat with an expressionless face. Ji Wan had to pass by Gu Nianqing’s legs to get to the seat.
“Uh… Gu… Gu Nianqing, could you move your legs so I can get in?”
Ji Wan said timidly.
“Ahhh, this woman is going to say I’m clinging to her again,” Ji Wan thought with an awkward feeling.
Gu Nianqing gave her a quick glance and moved her long legs to the side, allowing Ji Wan to pass.
No one saw the faint smile on Gu Nianqing’s lips as Ji Wan walked in, a smile so subtle it was almost unnoticeable.
After Ji Wan sat down, she pressed herself against the window, trying her best to stay away from Gu Nianqing, her body stiff.
She secretly turned her head to look at Gu Nianqing’s beautiful profile and saw that she had already closed her eyes to rest. She had no intention of talking to her at all.
Ji Wan secretly let out a sigh of relief, complaining internally: “Why does a rich school have to have a ‘group atmosphere’? Private cars are so much better. They all have to take the bus.
And not only that, but they have to put several classes together to save money, so there’s not even a single extra seat.
This trash school is ruining my youth.”
Little did she know that her varied and miserable expressions were all seen by Gu Nianqing’s slightly open eyes, and she found them incredibly cute.
The bus ride to Z City was about two hours long, and Ji Wan’s eyes gradually closed.
Finally, she leaned against the window and fell into a deep sleep.
In a daze, she felt a hand gently moving her head.
Then, she was resting on a soft and comfortable pillow.
The pillow had a fresh, minty scent that smelled very good.
Ji Wan moved her head contentedly, adjusting to a more comfortable sleeping position before falling into a deep sleep.
Gu Nianqing watched Ji Wan’s small movements as she leaned on her shoulder, a hint of amusement in her eyes. The people around them had also fallen asleep.
Therefore, no one noticed what was happening between them.
“Ji Wan, what am I going to do with you?”
Gu Nianqing tilted her head and gently sniffed the girl’s unique milky scent. She sighed helplessly and whispered in a voice only she could hear.
