I Just Want to be a Throwaway Character - Chapter 47
Chapter 47: World Three
The fierce assault was unbearable.
Ji Wan raised her hands to push, but they were weak and powerless. She could only let herself be bullied mercilessly.
When Jiang Zhili finally let go of Ji Wan, Ji Wan could only stand by leaning on her. Her eyes were teary, and she looked dazed and confused, as if she didn’t know what had just happened. She just kept breathing heavily, trying to recover from the suffocating plunder.
Jiang Zhili gently pushed away the strands of hair that had fallen across Ji Wan’s face during her struggle. Her movements were gentle and affectionate, but her eyes held a mix of destruction and obsession. When she saw her embracing Xiao Zhuyun, a wave of jealousy surged, and she couldn’t think of anything else. All she knew was that she had to hold on to Ji Wan—this woman who had captivated her mind and body. Wasn’t it Ji Wan who had first provoked her?
When Ji Wan finally came to her senses, her face was filled with shock. Why did the female lead kiss her? Did she kiss her during her blackout? Damn it, did I mess up the plot again? Wait, why did she say “again”? Ji Wan’s mind reeled with the strange memory, but there was a total blank. She really couldn’t remember anything! Did she really grope the female lead? Remembering the swollen marks on the female lead’s lips, she wondered, Did I really do that?!
Damn it, drinking causes trouble. A whirlwind of thoughts spun in Ji Wan’s mind. Her face was pale, and she didn’t know what she was thinking.
Jiang Zhili gently lifted Ji Wan’s chin, forcing her to look into her eyes. The bright, bewildered, watery apricot eyes were endearing and made one want to bully her.
“Jian… Jiang Zhili, this isn’t right,” Ji Wan said, awkwardly looking away, not daring to meet her gaze. She spoke weakly, without any confidence, feeling very guilty.
“Heh, what’s not right?” Jiang Zhili’s thumb gently rubbed Ji Wan’s lips. Her gaze was fixed on Ji Wan, deep and tender.
“I, I…” Ji Wan couldn’t refute her. After all, she was in the wrong, and she really couldn’t say what was wrong with it. But it was strange… kissing her and all…
“I have a fiancée,” Ji Wan said, gritting her teeth. Xiao Zhuyun had used her as a shield, so she could do the same. It was a give-and-take between good sisters. Anyway, Xiao Zhuyun will end up with the female lead in the end, so I hope she won’t hate me later.
Jiang Zhili’s eyes darkened, and a brutal emotion surged. Her hand pressed hard against the wall, pushing Ji Wan against it. “And what about me? Don’t you have anything to say to me?” Jiang Zhili’s voice was frigid, as if in a negotiation.
Ji Wan felt hopeless. How did she end up kissing Jiang Zhili? Thankfully, it only happened once at the resort. There shouldn’t be anything else, right? This was just a fluke. Yes, a strange fluke.
“Um, I’m sorry, Director Jiang. I’m just like this when I drink. I’ll compensate you for offending you,” Ji Wan said, feeling a little guilty. The way Jiang Zhili was looking at her made her feel a sense of danger.
“How are you going to compensate me?” Jiang Zhili’s grip on Ji Wan’s chin tightened.
Feeling the pain, Ji Wan slightly broke free from Jiang Zhili’s embrace. “Um, Director, it’s late. Can we talk about this tomorrow?” Ji Wan felt that the current atmosphere was suffocating. She’d probably get attacked by Jiang Zhili’s suitors for kissing her. And for some reason, this scene felt familiar.
“Ji Wan, cancel your engagement with her,” Jiang Zhili said, grabbing Ji Wan’s wrist as she tried to escape. Her tone was domineering and commanding.
Ji Wan felt that this woman was unbelievable. She was jealous, but she was warning her to stay away from her future fiancée? Ji Wan had selectively ruled out the possibility that she was someone the female lead liked. It was impossible to think about. After all, they were the official couple in the book.
Although the ending of the book just showed them getting engaged and Ji Wan getting beaten and sent to prison. Right now, the kiss must be her way of getting revenge. Thinking of this, Ji Wan’s face flushed even more.
“Just think of it as being bitten by a dog,” Ji Wan thought to comfort herself. But what kind of dog was this beautiful?! This was a sin.
Ji Wan was eager to escape this awkward situation. Without turning back, she said coolly, “Director Jiang, I’m very sorry for what I did to you, but I have a fiancée. I hope you’ll have some self-respect.”
Jiang Zhili didn’t say anything. The grip on Ji Wan’s wrist tightened.
“Jiang Zhili, let go, you’re hurting me,” Ji Wan said, frowning and struggling, becoming impatient.
Jiang Zhili’s eyes darkened at Ji Wan’s actions.
“Is it because of her family background?” Jiang Zhili’s voice was calm, but a storm was brewing underneath.
Ji Wan didn’t want to get tangled up any further and emphasized in a calm voice, “Yes. I’m the daughter of the CEO of the Ji Group. You should have known that on your first day. And Xiao Zhuyun is from a family just like the Ji family. We are a good match. You’re just a small employee at my company. You have no right to make me break off my engagement. Why should I cancel my engagement just because you say so? Please don’t put ideas in my fiancée’s head.”
Jiang Zhili’s hand slowly loosened. She watched as Ji Wan broke free and left. Although she had been told that the daughter of the Ji Group would be interning at the company, she had never seen her. Besides, there were so many people named Ji, so she was taking a gamble. She had believed that Ji Wan was just an ordinary girl, and she was confident that she could pursue her. But now, with Xiao Zhuyun’s appearance, everything was out of her control. Ji Wan suddenly seemed out of reach.
Jiang Zhili stood in the empty stairwell, not moving. A phone call came in, and Jiang Zhili listlessly took it out of her pocket and answered.
“Director Jiang, want to cooperate?” a not-too-loud voice came through the phone.
…
Ji Wan returned home, her back against the door, and sank to the floor. Her face was flushed, and her heart was beating incredibly fast. She just insulted the female lead, right? The plotline should be fine now. All she had to do was wait for the female lead to reunite with the Ji family, and then she’d do something bad and run away. This plan was perfect.
But when she thought about the soft, smooth sensory stimulation from a moment ago, she felt incredibly embarrassed. Ji Wan covered her face and crouched down, trying to stop herself from thinking about it. But Jiang Zhili’s cool and gentle eyes, and her domineering actions, made her heart pound nonstop.
I must be sick. Why is my heart beating so fast?
“Why are you so good-looking and so alluring?!” Ji Wan thought, clutching her chest. She was in a total state of confusion, but the mission had to continue. Ten million dollars!
Suddenly, an excited and familiar voice came from her mind, “Host, I’m back after upgrading! Are you happy?” The sharp electronic sound was so excited it almost made Ji Wan faint from the noise pollution.
“Shut up,” Ji Wan said, annoyed.
“Waaah, I’m going to cry. I’ve been gone for so long, and you don’t miss me? How heartless, Host,” System 111 said, fake-crying.
The next second, the little glowing ball appeared and floated in front of Ji Wan. Ji Wan stood up and walked into the entryway, picking up System 111 and holding it in her arms. She squeezed it hard, and her mood improved. For now, she wouldn’t worry about the female lead. She was just a small cannon fodder, what was there to be afraid of?
“Tell me, what useless things did you upgrade with this time?” Ji Wan asked.
“I got a really great upgrade this time, Host. Guess what,” System 111 said proudly, though the upgrade was thanks to Ji Wan’s SSS-level mission.
“Time freeze?” Ji Wan said casually.
“Uh, Host, that’s not possible,” System 111 said.
“All practical skills maxed out? Like, I can cook, fly a plane, and have explosive strength?”
“Uh, Host, that’s a little difficult,” System 111 said, feeling guilty.
“Then just give me the identity of a millionaire in this world,” Ji Wan said, tapping the little glowing ball.
“Uh, Host. That doesn’t fit the mission rules. I can’t change your identity.” System 111 was deflated. Her host’s demands were so high! All these strange, high-level things.
“Boring,” Ji Wan said, throwing System 111 to the side. She was going to take a shower and ignore it. She desperately wanted to wash off the faint scent that wasn’t hers.
“Host, wait for me to finish,” the system said, trying to be cute.
Ji Wan shivered in disgust. What should I do? The upgrade made it even more annoying.
“Speak properly, don’t do that,” Ji Wan said, tapping the little glowing ball.
“Okay,” System 111 said. It had no hands to cover its head and could only hold back the pain.
The new skills after the upgrade are:
- Affection Detection: Can detect anyone’s affection for themselves or others (can only check one person at a time; cooldown is 24 months).
- Presence Concealment: Can lower the host’s presence, making them seem transparent (random duration).
“How is it, Host? Aren’t I awesome?” System 111 asked for praise.
But Ji Wan’s expression was calm, with a hint of disdain. That’s it? That affection detection thing was useless with a two-year cooldown. The presence concealment seemed interesting, though. Maybe I can use it when I escape later. Ji Wan stroked her chin, thinking. She looked at the door. What would happen if I used the affection detection on Jiang Zhili? Is her affection for me a negative number?
Never mind, don’t waste the chance. She definitely didn’t like me. It was so obvious. After all, I just mocked her for not being from a prominent family. Ji Wan didn’t want to think about it anymore. She was just a worker doing a mission. Whatever happened to Jiang Zhili had nothing to do with her.
System 111 waited for a long time for its host’s answer, but all it got was silence. Then, System 111 realized that its host had already left it behind and gone into the bathroom to shower. What a heartless host.
Its host looked like she was deep in thought just now, so she must be in a bad mood. Is this mission too difficult and putting pressure on my host? But it hadn’t seen her seriously doing any missions. Oh well, my host has been slacking off for two worlds now. This kind of scheming thing must be really hard. System 111 tried to rationalize it. Should I tell my host to use her charm on the female lead again?
Based on the previous two worlds, Ji Wan might not remember anything, but System 111 did. Unfortunately, there were rules that prevented it from telling the host too much. The main god’s power seemed to have increased recently. It wondered when the main god would wake up. Then it could help its host. System 111 felt a little melancholy.
Meanwhile, at Ji Wan’s doorstep, Jiang Zhili stood in front of her door, her eyes dark, with light and shadow intermingling. She was still holding her phone.
The screen showed a text message:
“Cooperate with me. I have something that will benefit you. I believe you’ll be interested. Of course, it’s about the Ji Group’s daughter. The location is the coffee shop below your company.”
Reply: “Yes, I agree. I’ll go.”
Jiang Zhili’s hand gently rested on Ji Wan’s door. There was no movement for a long time. Even if I don’t know what will happen, getting you is the right thing to do.
At the same time, on the other side, Chu Fang leaned against a large tree below Xiao Zhuyun’s apartment building, her finger lightly touching her swollen lips. She was expressionless and cold. But when she saw the reply on her phone, a slight smile appeared. She took out a tissue and wiped off her smudged lipstick and tidied up her disheveled collar.
She looked up at Xiao Zhuyun’s tightly closed curtains, and a look of determination appeared in her eyes. “A-Zhu, I’ll get you back.”
