I Just Want to be a Throwaway Character - Chapter 36
Chapter 36: A New Routine
In the Demon Realm Palace, the new Demon Lord reclined languidly on a soft couch, reviewing documents. The red markings on her forehead were mysterious and enchanting, a sign of her immense power. A crimson gown complemented her fair, delicate skin.
Ji Wan rubbed the space between her eyebrows. Her eyes were sore, and her head ached. A wave of weariness washed over her. The next moment, she fell into a familiar, warm embrace. Inhaling Lin Morou’s faint, pleasant scent, Ji Wan’s mood immediately brightened.
“You’re back,” she said softly, her voice revealing a hint of joy.
Lin Morou leaned in and gently kissed the corner of Ji Wan’s lips, her eyes filled with affection. “Yes, I’m back, my lady,” Lin Morou said in her cool, alluring voice.
Even after six months of marriage, Ji Wan’s ears still couldn’t handle that tone. A blush crept across her cheeks. The maids in the palace retreated discreetly, leaving the young couple to themselves.
When they were alone, Ji Wan tossed the documents aside and turned to bury herself in Lin Morou’s arms. They fell back onto the couch together. Lin Morou lovingly stroked the top of Ji Wan’s head, which was nestled in her neck. “Tired?” she asked, her arm wrapped around Ji Wan’s slender waist as she looked at her weary face.
“Lin Morou, I missed you,” Ji Wan said, burying herself deeper, unwilling to come out. Her voice was full of pouting affection and deep reliance. Lin Morou’s heart filled with a warmth that was also tinged with guilt. For the past six months, they had spent very little time together. One had to manage the various issues of the Demon Realm, while the other had to lead the Immortal Alliance. Ji Wan hadn’t been held to sleep by Lin Morou in a long time.
Lin Morou held Ji Wan tightly and kissed her forehead. “It’s okay. I’m not leaving today. Sleep well, I’ll stay with you.” Just as she finished speaking, Ji Wan fell into a deep sleep, exhausted. The workload of the Demon Realm had left her breathless. This was especially difficult during a crucial period of tentative relations with the human world. Even with the support of Lin Morou, Du Gu Nuo, and her master’s wife, Ye Ning, it would still take time for the cultivation and demon realms to be truly equal. Ji Wan was also growing more and more unaccustomed to the days when Lin Morou wasn’t by her side. For some reason, she just wanted to cling to Lin Morou, to have her companionship and her care.
Lin Morou gently picked Ji Wan up and carried her to the bed in the inner chamber. She looked at the dark circles under Ji Wan’s eyes with a pang of heartache, wanting to smooth away the worry lines on her brow. When Ji Wan woke up, her eyes fluttered open, her eyelashes trembling like a raven’s feathers. Realizing she was still in Lin Morou’s arms, she hugged her even tighter, pressing her head against Lin Morou’s chest to listen to her heartbeat.
Lin Morou was still asleep. Lying in her arms, Ji Wan looked at her sleeping face, a serene expression on her beautiful features. Ji Wan felt like a lovesick fool. My wife is so beautiful. She’s truly the most beautiful person in the Three Realms.
Looking at Lin Morou’s exquisite profile, Ji Wan’s cheeks flushed slightly, and she had a mischievous thought. She propped herself up with one hand and gently reached out to touch Lin Morou’s sleeping face. Ji Wan leaned in, wanting to press her lips against Lin Morou’s cool ones. A little stolen kiss…
Ji Wan was very careful, her breathing quickening with nervousness. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and leaned in, her movements gentle. Just as she was about to succeed, a surge of excitement mixed with shame swelled in her heart. When their lips finally touched, she felt Lin Morou’s warmth and softness. Her heart pounded like a startled deer.
She started to pull back, embarrassed, but before she could get away, she was caught in Lin Morou’s deep, affectionate gaze. Her eyes were clear and bright, not the least bit sleepy. I got caught trying to steal a kiss… Ji Wan’s face instantly went crimson.
The next second, her head was gently pulled back. “That’s not how you kiss,” Lin Morou said with a soft, husky, and seductive laugh.
Then, she began to teach Ji Wan what a real kiss was. Two fiery snakes intertwined, one attacking the other. The weaker one, clearly outmatched, was overwhelmed, forcing it to surrender and submit. The heat between the two snakes rose, making it hard to breathe.
When Lin Morou finally let go of Ji Wan, she lay limply against her, breathing heavily. You rascal! Ji Wan looked up, ready to scold her, but she was met with Lin Morou’s dark, possessive eyes. Fearful, she scrambled to get up. She knew that look all too well. If she let Lin Morou continue, she wouldn’t be able to get out of bed.
“Lin Morou, you… you can’t,” Ji Wan said softly, her voice yielding and seductive, not at all threatening.
“Be a good girl. Just for a moment, it’ll be quick,” Lin Morou said, her hands growing bolder as she coaxed her.
“Mmm, Lin… Lin Morou, not now, there’s a meeting later…” Her words were cut off as Lin Morou silenced her. Lin Morou’s hands slid under Ji Wan’s clothes, unlatching her belt, her eyes filled with desire. “It’ll be over soon,” Lin Morou’s voice was hypnotic. She wasn’t going to miss this rare opportunity.
The moment Lin Morou’s fingertips touched her skin, Ji Wan went limp. She gave in, half-willing and half-forced. After all, she knew she couldn’t refuse her. I just wonder if we’ll make it to the meeting.
A Lively Reunion
The sky began to rain, and the downpour grew heavier. The most delicate flower in the center of the garden was no match for the rain. Its petals were beaten down one by one. The flower let out tiny, broken sobs, begging the storm for mercy. But the rain only grew stronger, showing no pity. In the end, the flower was left with a scattered mess of petals. It was pitiful yet beautiful.
After being teased, Ji Wan felt a bit sulky, but she couldn’t bring herself to be angry with Lin Morou. She just pouted to herself. Seeing her pouting, Lin Morou kissed her slightly swollen lips. “There, don’t be mad. It’s my fault. It’s just that my lady is so beautiful she looks good enough to eat.”
Ji Wan turned her face away, still pouting, but her flushed earlobes revealed her shyness.
When Ji Wan finally arrived at the reception hall, her master, Du Gu Nuo, and her master’s wife, Ye Ning, had already been waiting for a while. Ji Wan gave Lin Morou a fierce glare and walked shyly toward Du Gu Nuo. Her walk was a bit slow and awkward. Du Gu Nuo saw the marks on her neck and knew exactly what she had been up to. Ah, young people. A short separation is better than a newlywed reunion. I understand. Seeing Du Gu Nuo’s knowing look, Ji Wan’s face turned even redder. She knew what his expression meant.
“Have a seat. You must be tired, aren’t you?” Du Gu Nuo emphasized the word “tired.”
Ji Wan chose to ignore him and sat down beside him, fuming. “Master, let’s talk business. Don’t cause trouble.”
“Waaah, I’m so heartbroken! Wanwan came to see me to talk business instead of reminiscing,” Du Gu Nuo cried, pretending to throw himself into Ye Ning’s arms.
Ye Ning hugged him helplessly and gave Ji Wan an apologetic smile, but the love and affection in her eyes were unmistakable. Ji Wan felt cold “dog food” being shoved down her throat. Hmph, as if I don’t have a partner, too, she thought, discreetly reaching out to grab Lin Morou’s hand. Lin Morou saw her action and intertwined their fingers, a knowing smile in her eyes.
“Enough, stop fooling around. You’re too old for this, playing with your disciple,” Ye Ning said, gently tapping Du Gu Nuo’s forehead.
“Hmph, I still remember when she broke up with me,” Du Gu Nuo grumbled.
“Master, how are you still holding a grudge? I gave you so many treasures to apologize,” Ji Wan said with a chuckle, walking over and lying on Du Gu Nuo’s lap like she did when she was a child.
Du Gu Nuo was in a good mood after seeing Ji Wan’s rare display of affection. “Then, I’ll be merciful and forgive you.”
“You’re the best, Master!” Lin Morou and Ye Ning shared a look as they watched the master and disciple hugging. It was a beautiful sight, but also a little unbearable. They both reached out and pulled their respective partners back. No hugging, not even for masters and disciples!
Ji Wan was pulled away, but then…
“Sister Wanwan!” “Senior Sister Wanwan!”
Two voices echoed from the doorway. Ji Wan looked over and saw Ye Zi Su, no longer a child but with a delicate face, and the little fox (Ji Wu Shuang), who was about twelve or thirteen in human years. The two of them gave each other a hostile glare, then looked at their target—Ji Wan—their eyes shining. They both rushed over for a hug.
Ji Wan braced herself for the impact. “Ouch!” a cry sounded out, but it wasn’t hers. She opened her eyes to see Lin Morou holding her, a few meters away. Lin Morou looked down at her with a laugh. Ji Wan understood and looked at the two little ones who had crashed into each other. She inwardly mourned for their foreheads.
“Ye Zi Su, what’s wrong with you?! Why are you in such a hurry?” “You useless fox! What’s wrong with you?! Why is it any of your business that I’m looking for Senior Sister Wanwan?” “Hah, you big-headed idiot!” “Hmph, you worthless fox!” …
Seeing them about to fight, Ji Wan quickly intervened. “Stop! Enough! We have to talk business. Behave.”
“Hmph!” Ye Zi Su and Ji Wu Shuang looked at each other with disgust, but they obeyed, squeezing in on either side of Ji Wan. Ji Wan felt helpless. These two little brats always made everything a competition, with her as the center. It was so frustrating. I can’t hit both of them. They were growing up and in their teens. If she handled this wrong, what if they rebelled? Ji Wan looked to Lin Morou for help.
