I Just Want to be a Throwaway Character - Chapter 29
Chapter 29: The Pain of Transformation
A month later, the cultivation world slowly stabilized from the panic of the demonic disturbance. The cultivators began to form and train an army, preparing for when the demons would reappear. The entire cultivation world had entered a state of war readiness.
At the same time, and her hair stuck to her cheeks. The next second, she could no longer hold it in.
Her demonic power exploded, and her clothes burst apart. Ji Wan let out a painful whimper before collapsing onto the stone bed, unconscious and utterly exhausted. Her face was pitifully pale from the pain.
But soon, something bizarre happened. Two snow-white cat ears sprouted from Ji Wan’s head, now limp and folded sadly on her soft hair. A long cat tail grew from her spine, curling weakly around her slender legs. The girl was completely limp, unable to move a muscle. The two cat ears occasionally twitched sensitively before falling back down, and her tail moved ever so slightly.
The dark stone bed and the girl’s exposed, fair skin created a striking contrast, highlighting her vulnerability and a mysterious allure. This stunning sight would surely drive countless people mad with desire.
Ji Wan had set up a barrier around the cave, so her strong demonic energy hadn’t attracted anyone. However, one person was different from the rest.
Ever since Ji Wan had gone into seclusion, Lin Morou had come to her cave every day to wait and cultivate with her. Lin Morou hoped that she would be the first person Ji Wan saw when she came out. It had been a full month since she had seen Ji Wan, and she still didn’t know if the “lover” Ji Wan mentioned was a lie or not.Ji Wan was also forced into a state of war readiness. She felt the demonic bloodline within her growing stronger, and after the demonic disturbance, she had locked herself in a cultivation cave behind the mountain, afraid to leave. Her demonic energy was becoming difficult to suppress, clashing violently with her spiritual energy.
“Ugh, Little 1, quickly, activate pain-free mode,” Ji Wan whimpered. Her forehead was covered in cold sweat, and her veins bulged as she struggled to control the surging demonic power. She lay limply on the stone bed in the sealed cave, writhing in agony.
“Host, pain-free mode can only be used when you are under attack from someone else,” System 111 replied, concerned but helpless.
“Ah!” Ji Wan cried out in pain.
Gritting her teeth, she endured the pain, no longer counting on System 111. She couldn’t reply. Suddenly, System 111 was blocked by a mysterious force.
The demonic energy caused Ji Wan’s blood to boil. Faint, strange red lines began to appear on her brow, spreading across her body. Suddenly, Ji Wan felt a strange itching sensation on her head and at the base of her spine. Her single layer of clothing was completely soaked in sweat,
Lin Morou’s mind ran wild. What if Ji Wan had truly fallen in love with someone else? What would she do?
Thinking of this, Lin Morou punched a nearby tree. It groaned and fell with a heavy thud, but its perpetrator’s face showed no guilt. Instead, her expression was dark as ink, full of hostility, and her eyes held a hint of madness. “If you fall for someone else, I’ll snatch you back, even if I have to,” Lin Morou said to the fallen tree in a cold voice. She looked at Ji Wan’s cave in the distance, wanting to see her right now, to find the answer.
Lin Morou walked to the entrance and saw the thin barrier. She hesitated for a moment. Then, she caught a faint whiff of demonic energy. Afraid that Ji Wan had encountered demons again, she walked straight into the cave. The barrier was like air to her.
She found the cave empty, but there were shattered pieces of cloth on the ground that looked familiar. The demonic energy was so faint that it was almost undetectable. This is Ji Wan’s clothing. Lin Morou’s expression grew serious. Did a demon come here?
“Meow, meow…” Lin Morou’s thoughts were interrupted by a soft, sweet sound. Lying among the shreds of cloth was a tiny kitten, about two or three months old. The kitten was pure white, with wide, watery eyes and soft, wobbly legs. Its soft cries made Lin Morou think of Ji Wan for a moment. Lin Morou walked closer, gently picked up the kitten by the scruff of its neck, and placed it in her palm.
There were no signs of a fight, Ji Wan was gone, but there was a kitten. Lin Morou gently petted the kitten’s head. The kitten meowed back and licked her palm. Lin Morou figured Ji Wan was probably bored and got a cat, which was why her clothes were in shreds. As for the demonic energy, she must have been too on edge lately.
Lin Morou looked around the cave. There was no food. The kitten’s owner was gone. She realized the kitten must be hungry. She brought it back to her room. Holding a bowl of warm milk, Lin Morou scratched the kitten’s chin. She fed the kitten with a tiny spoon. She planned to find Ji Wan later.
The kitten was so hungry that it drank eagerly, getting milk on the soft fur around its mouth. It wasn’t satisfied and nuzzled Lin Morou’s hand. It stared at the empty bowl with pleading eyes, tilting its head in confusion. It pawed at her, begging for more milk. Its actions were incredibly adorable.
Lin Morou smiled and gently poked the kitten’s head. “Why are you such a greedy eater, just like your owner?” She remembered the time Ji Wan had a toothache from eating too many sweets and begged her to return them. The kitten’s behavior was very similar.
Lin Morou affectionately picked up the kitten and gently kissed its little head. Her eyes were filled with so much love, it was as if she were looking at someone else through the kitten. “Alright, be a good girl. I’ll go look for your owner soon,” she said, placing the sleepy kitten on a soft cushion she made on her bed. She watched the sleeping kitten, stroking its head affectionately, and stayed for a while.
“You’re so much like your owner,” Lin Morou said with a gentle smile, thinking of Ji Wan.
Then, she got up and left to look for Ji Wan. She searched the entire sect for a day, but Ji Wan was nowhere to be found. Yet, her aura showed she was still in the Frozen Feather Sect. Lin Morou watched the night sky, still wanting to search. But she remembered the kitten waiting for her in her room, and she had no choice but to return.
She went inside and went straight to the bed to check on the kitten. But it wasn’t there. A sudden panic rose in her heart. She looked around the room. The kitten was gone, and so was the blanket on her bed.
Suddenly, Lin Morou heard a sound from Ji Wan’s room. A look of joy flashed across her face, and she quickly walked to Ji Wan’s door. But she stopped, hesitant to knock.
Ji Wan opened the door, and what she saw was Lin Morou staring at her door, looking conflicted. Ji Wan’s face flushed. Was there anything more embarrassing than suddenly waking up naked on your junior sister’s bed? Especially when she remembered what happened when she was a little kitten.
Ji Wan remembered Lin Morou, the “cosmically icy, tsundere,” kissing a cat. Her face felt incredibly hot, and her heart was racing. Why would Lin Morou kiss a cat? And so tenderly, so lovingly? It was making her feel strange.
Lin Morou stared at Ji Wan’s changing expressions, and for some reason, her own face flushed.
“Um…”
“Um…”
They both spoke at the same time.
“You… you first,” Ji Wan said awkwardly. She was embarrassed that her junior sister was making her heart race.
“Where’s the little cat?” Lin Morou asked, choosing the most neutral topic. Little did she know, Ji Wan’s heart, which she had just gotten under control, began to pound again.
“She… she went to play with the little fox,” Ji Wan said, making up a clumsy excuse. Heaven knew how long it had been since she had seen the little fox; it had been missing recently.
“And my blanket?” Lin Morou asked again. Ji Wan remembered the blanket she had used to cover herself. She felt guilty for giving it back to Lin Morou, a blanket she had “contaminated.” It was too sinful.
“I… the little cat was disobedient and got your blanket dirty. I’ll wash it and return it,” Ji Wan said, looking away nervously. “Well… if you don’t need anything, I’m going to bed now.” Just as Ji Wan was about to say goodbye and escape this awkward situation, Lin Morou grabbed her arm.
“Wait.”
“What is it?” Ji Wan’s arm felt a tight grip. Her body felt a slight pain. Sensing Ji Wan’s discomfort, Lin Morou loosened her grip. “Who is the person you like?” Lin Morou’s eyes blazed, staring intently at Ji Wan, her expression tense as she searched for the answer.
“Huh? What person I like?” Ji Wan was confused. Did I ever have a person I liked…? For some reason, she felt a deep, inner pain. “Does it matter who it is?” Ji Wan’s voice grew somber, laced with a reluctance to discuss it. She felt a vague sense of dejection.
Lin Morou’s hands clenched into tight fists, and a vein pulsed faintly on her forehead. She had a painful realization: there was a person in Ji Wan’s heart, and that person wasn’t her.
“Who is it?” Lin Morou forced herself to control her rage. She didn’t want to hurt Ji Wan.
“There’s no one. Go back,” Ji Wan said with a hint of coldness, turning back to her room, clearly unwilling to talk about it.
But the next second, Ji Wan’s wrist was yanked back with great force, and she was pulled into a soft embrace, trapped. Ji Wan was pressed against the door, unable to move. “Lin Morou, you…” she began to say.
Her chin was suddenly held by a slender finger, forcing her to turn her head and take the full force of the kiss. Ji Wan stared in shock at the familiar face. She finally got a chance to breathe, only to be pushed against the wooden door again. Ji Wan gasped for air, her mind in a daze, unable to process what was happening. But Lin Morou didn’t give her a chance to react, pressing against her again, savagely taking the air from her mouth.
Lin Morou’s eyes were filled with obsession. She grabbed Ji Wan’s struggling hands and pinned them above her head. “If I can’t have you, I’ll destroy you.” Lin Morou’s long-held emotions for Ji Wan finally exploded, completely out of control. She thought she might be in love with Ji Wan. How else could she explain this feeling of constant loss and gain, this rage when someone else pursued her, and this complete loss of control when she found out Ji Wan liked someone else?
Ji Wan was completely limp and helpless. When her consciousness finally returned, she was on the soft bed with Lin Morou on top of her. The perpetrator was roughly pulling at her clothes. As the last piece of fabric was about to come off, Ji Wan’s last ounce of dignity was about to disappear.
“Lin Morou, are you crazy? Let go of me,” Ji Wan said, her voice filled with a hint of a sob.
But Lin Morou did not get up. She continued to look at her with an obsessive stare. As the situation grew more out of control, Ji Wan desperately channeled her spiritual power, intending to suppress Lin Morou with her Golden Core cultivation.
“Yes, I’m crazy. I shouldn’t have met you and become this crazy,” Lin Morou’s voice was full of deep love and a twisted possessiveness. The trauma of her family’s death made her use any means necessary to hold on to the light she had found in Ji Wan. Lin Morou pressed on relentlessly, biting down on Ji Wan’s red lips.
Suddenly, Ji Wan’s power burst forth, pushing Lin Morou away. Unprepared, Lin Morou was knocked off the bed, a trail of blood seeping from the corner of her mouth. But she was just smiling sinisterly at Ji Wan.
Tears streamed down Ji Wan’s face. She scooted back on the bed in fear and helplessness. She felt the stinging pain on her lips. Ji Wan frantically pulled the blanket over her exposed skin, her body trembling uncontrollably. Her hands were so weak that she couldn’t even hold the blanket. Her eyes were filled with fear and confusion as she looked at Lin Morou. She didn’t understand why Lin Morou would kiss her. Or why she would try to do something so intimate with her.
