I Just Want to be a Throwaway Character - Chapter 26
Chapter 26: A Confusing Awakening
When Ji Wan woke up, her mind was a blur. Wasn’t I being chased by a bull-headed monster? And then I passed out? Where am I?
She slowly opened her eyes, her gaze blurry, and saw the familiar carved patterns on the ceiling. Is this… my room?
“Wanwan, you’re awake! Your master was so worried!” a dramatic voice cried out.
Ji Wan turned her head and saw her master, Du Gu’nuo, looking haggard. Just as she was about to feel a little touched…
“Master, you’ve been staying at the Spirit Dream Sect and the Jade Dew Sect for days. You must be tired. Don’t bother Senior Sister Wanwan!” a clear, cute child’s voice chirped.
Ji Wan finally noticed a small, adorable girl of about five or six sitting at the foot of her bed. Her two little legs swung back and forth, making you want to cuddle her.
“Cough, cough. Your Senior Sister Wanwan has been in a coma for a month. I haven’t been able to sleep because of my worry,” Du Gu’nuo said, putting on his “super good master” act.
Knowing her master’s habits, Ji Wan slowly sat up and leaned against the soft pillow Du Gu’nuo handed her. Ji Wan looked at her master’s sycophantic behavior with a speechless expression. Her voice was still a little hoarse.
“Master, did you…”
“Huh, what about me?” Du Gu’nuo asked, confused by the strange look in her eyes.
“Did you kidnap another child?” Ji Wan finished her sentence.
If Du Gu’nuo had been drinking water, he would have spit it out. What a filial disciple. Looking at Ji Wan’s questioning eyes, Du Gu’nuo quickly explained.
“Nonsense! How could I possibly kidnap a child? This is Ye Zisu, the younger sister of Sect Master Ye Ning of the Divine Martial Sect. She was attracted by my charm and wants to become my disciple.”
Oh, great. I always suspected Master had a secret relationship with the other two sects. Now, he’s added the Divine Martial Sect, Ji Wan thought. He had managed to get the protection of all the major sect leaders in the cultivation world except for her own. Ji Wan gave her master a complicated look. He’s clearly the ‘bottom’ in all this. So useless. In her mind, she was already writing a book for him: The Billion Little Darlings of the Cultivation World’s Great Leaders.
“Hmph, who cares? If my sister hadn’t…” The little girl’s soft, sweet voice rang out, with a hint of cute disdain. Ji Wan’s “gossip spirit” was instantly ignited, and she fixed her gaze on Ye Zisu. The little girl, caught off guard by Ji Wan’s probing stare, quickly covered her mouth mid-sentence in a panic.
Phew, that was close. I almost revealed my sister’s plan to supervise this woman.
“What is it?” Ji Wan’s eyes lit up.
But the little girl became wary. She shook her head, indicating it was nothing.
A second later, the door was pushed open. “If you’re not here for anything, please don’t disturb her rest.”
Lin Morou walked in, carrying a bowl of white porridge. She gave Du Gu’nuo and Ye Zisu a cold stare, her eyes clearly telling them to leave. She had sensed Ji Wan was about to wake up and had rushed to the kitchen. But when she left them alone with Ji Wan, they immediately woke her up. Lin Morou was displeased. She had secretly wanted to be the first person Ji Wan saw when she woke up.
Ji Wan felt disappointed. She was so close to getting some good gossip.
“Senior Sister Wanwan, I don’t have a place to stay tonight. Can I sleep with you?” The little girl jumped off the bed, ran to Ji Wan, and held her arm, pouting. She also gave a disgusted look at her not-so-reliable master.
Du Gu’nuo’s heart was hit hard. I’m so sad. I’ll buy you some tangerines.
Ji Wan was stunned for a moment, then replied, “Yes, of course.”
Oh my god, she’s so cute! A lively, fair-skinned little girl was begging her. It had been years since she had seen such a cute little thing. The little girl successfully won Ji Wan over.
“Yay! I can sleep with my pretty senior sister!” The little girl excitedly hopped off the bed, her cute braids bouncing along.
Du Gu’nuo noticed a change in Lin Morou’s aura. She secretly used her inner energy to scan Lin Morou and thought in surprise, This child’s aura has changed. But she said nothing, just gave Lin Morou a deep look. Then, she pulled the excited little girl out of the room. Ji Wan’s strange “filial” look was a bit much for her to handle.
With the two gone, the room became quiet. Ji Wan felt an awkwardness between her and Lin Morou.
Lin Morou didn’t speak. She walked over, held the bowl of porridge, and gently stirred and blew on it to cool it down. Then, she began to feed it to Ji Wan.
“Um, Little Momo, I can do it myself,” Ji Wan said awkwardly, trying to refuse.
“Ding! Troublemaking Value +3.”
Ji Wan froze and gave Lin Morou a strange look. What? I’m causing trouble just by saying that? Sometimes, Ji Wan really didn’t understand how the “Troublemaking Value” was calculated. It seemed to have the strangest standards.
Helpless, Ji Wan drank the porridge under Lin Morou’s blank stare. The taste… was so delicious! Ji Wan didn’t even recognize the familiar taste in her memory.
Seeing the girl’s satisfied expression, a hint of undetectable fondness appeared in Lin Morou’s eyes. After feeding Ji Wan, Lin Morou took the bowl and left, telling her to rest a little longer.
Ji Wan couldn’t possibly sleep. She had been in a coma for a month. But the weakness in her body told her it was best not to move. Bored, Ji Wan lay down and noticed her storage pouch on the bedside table. She suddenly remembered the little fox. She quickly took the little fox out of the pouch. A soft, fluffy ball was curled up, sound asleep. It was a good thing there was plenty of food in the storage space, or the little fox would have been dead.
Ji Wan looked at the little white fox in her arms and couldn’t resist. She touched its soft fur, a happy smile on her face. So cute!
Perhaps due to Ji Wan’s movements, the little fox began to wake up. Its eyes slowly opened, and it looked at Ji Wan with a confused, dazed expression, as if looking at a strange auntie. It tilted its head in confusion.
Oh my god! The little fox successfully won over Ji Wan a second time.
Perhaps because of its serious injuries, or because it had turned into a small beast, the little fox seemed a bit slow. When Ji Wan petted its head, it would confusingly lick her finger. Ji Wan giggled foolishly, enjoying the little fox’s adorable antics. She had completely forgotten her fear of it from before.
After a while, Ji Wan picked up the little fox. I heard you have a loli voice, so you must be a girl, right? “Come on, let me check.” Ji Wan’s smile became a little perverted. The little fox sensed something was wrong and struggled frantically, swiping its paw at Ji Wan’s face. It jumped off the bed and watched Ji Wan warily from a distance. If the little fox had its memories back, it would have sworn to kill this presumptuous human. But for now, it still seemed a bit simple.
Ji Wan took a small piece of dried meat from her storage pouch. The little fox was wary at first, but the delicious smell was too tempting. It quickly trotted back.
In the end, Ji Wan got her wish and found out the little fox’s gender. Of course, she was rewarded with another scratch on the hand.
…
The Sleepover
That night, Ji Wan was playing with the little fox in her bed when Ye Zisu pattered into the room in sleepwear that was clearly a little too big for her. The little girl worked hard to climb onto the bed. “Senior Sister, I’m here!” she said sweetly, her words a little slurred. Her voice was milky, just the kind of pouting voice Ji Wan loved. Ji Wan managed to control her smile so she wouldn’t scare the little girl.
“Come here,” she said gently. Ji Wan moved over, leaving a space for the little girl to lie down. The little girl climbed onto the bed with great effort, her attention immediately drawn to the little fox in her senior sister’s arms. “She’s so cute! Senior Sister, can I pet her?” she asked, a bright, innocent smile on her face.
Ji Wan was completely won over. “You can. But can I ask you a few questions first?” Ji Wan’s gossip spirit was reignited.
Ye Zisu hugged the little fox, her eyes full of interest, and nodded obediently. Ji Wan patted her head in satisfaction.
“Can you tell me what Master was doing at the Jade Dew Sect and Spirit Dream Sect?” Ji Wan went straight to the point.
“Hmm, let me think,” the little girl said, frowning as she tried to remember. “When Master and I went to those places, he always arranged for someone else to take care of me, so I didn’t see much of him.”
Ji Wan was disappointed, but she didn’t give up. “Is there a special relationship between your sister and Master?” she asked while the little girl was happily playing.
“Well, my sister likes…” The little girl realized her mistake and quickly covered her mouth. The little fox in her arms took the chance to escape and jumped back into Ji Wan’s embrace.
“Oh, likes what?” Ji Wan’s gossip spirit was in full flame.
“To… to have a martial arts competition with Master, of course!” the little girl quickly added, her expression a little guilty.
“Pfft, I thought it was something more interesting. Turns out they just want to fight,” Ji Wan said, completely believing her, not seeing the little girl’s shifty eyes.
…
The Final Cuddle
Only a wall separated Lin Morou’s room from Ji Wan’s. From the other side, she could hear laughter and talking. Lin Morou forced herself to sleep, but the laughter was grating. She rolled over and pulled the blanket over her head, feeling a strange jealousy. She had never slept with Ji Wan…
Lin Morou didn’t even realize she was jealous. She finally sat up and looked out the window. It was dark and cloudy, and the wind howled. A light rain began to fall, growing heavier.
Ji Wan saw how late it was and tucked the sleepy little girl in. She got out of bed to turn off the light and close the window to keep the rain out. Just then, there was a knock on the door. Ji Wan opened it in confusion and saw Lin Morou in her nightclothes, holding a pillow. Her expression was awkward, and she didn’t say a word.
Ji Wan stared blankly. “Are you going to sleep with me?” she asked in surprise.
Lin Morou’s face flushed with a rare shyness. She gave a small nod. “It’s raining in my room, and my bed got wet. I can’t sleep in there.” There was no guilt in her tone.
Seeing the usually cold Lin Morou act so coyly, Ji Wan’s heart almost stopped. Seeing Ji Wan stare at her with an oddly excited look, Lin Morou felt her face burn.
“Ding! Troublemaking Value +2.”
The electronic sound rang out, and Ji Wan finally snapped out of her daze. She quickly let Lin Morou in, her voice filled with excitement. “Come on in! Big Sister will sleep with you.”
Lin Morou’s face got even redder. She looked shy and a little awkward.
When three people and one fox were lying on the bed, Ji Wan realized her bed was a little small. She had no choice but to hug Ye Zisu and squeeze closer to the wall. Lin Morou slept on the outer edge.
With a future beauty on her left and a little loli on her right, Ji Wan felt like she was a winner. She was making a huge profit.
Soon, the human and the pets and the little girl all fell into a deep sleep. All but one…
In the darkness, Lin Morou slowly sat up. Her eyes clearly saw Ji Wan’s back turned to her. She was hugging the little girl, and Ye Zisu was nestled comfortably in Ji Wan’s arms. It was a beautiful and harmonious sight. But for some reason, Lin Morou’s mood soured.
After watching for a long time, she couldn’t take it anymore. She gently pulled Ji Wan’s arm away from Ye Zisu. But Ye Zisu seemed to sense it and began to stir. Lin Morou froze. Her eyes caught sight of the little fox sleeping peacefully next to Ji Wan’s pillow. She quickly picked up the fox and put it in Ye Zisu’s arms. The little girl immediately quieted down.
Lin Morou was satisfied, and as she was about to lie down with Ji Wan facing her, a pair of arms suddenly wrapped around her waist, and something soft nestled against her. Lin Morou stiffened, looking at Ji Wan who was curled up in her arms, not daring to move. She felt the softness of the girl, and her heart began to race. Did I just dig a hole for myself?
Ji Wan, still asleep, unconsciously rubbed against Lin Morou’s soft shoulder. Lin Morou didn’t know what to do, and her entire face instantly turned red. Unfortunately, no one could see it. By the time Ji Wan was finally settled, Lin Morou found she couldn’t sleep.
“This woman is so…” Lin Morou looked at the troublesome woman in her arms with a sense of helplessness. Little did she know how wide her own smile was.
