I Just Want to be a Throwaway Character - Chapter 21
Chapter 21: World Two
In the system space, Ji Wan opened her eyes in a daze. She looked around at the somewhat familiar floating bed. She sat up, her appearance once again that of a sweet and cute young girl, just as she was when she first entered the space.
After a moment of staring blankly, her consciousness gradually returned. Ji Wan rubbed her temples, which felt a little sore. “Little 1? Are you there?”
“Host, you’re awake!” The little ball of light suddenly appeared and circled Ji Wan twice, its voice full of excitement.
“Yeah,” Ji Wan replied faintly. She had a feeling she had forgotten something.
“Host, you’ve perfectly completed the first world’s mission! It was an SSS rank, so amazing!” System 111 praised her, its tone fawning and eager to please.
“Why don’t I have any memory of World One?” Ji Wan’s mind only held a few insignificant, faint fragments that hinted she had indeed done a mission.
“To prevent the host from developing negative emotions that might hinder future missions, your memories are temporarily stored in the system space. They will be returned to you once you have completed all the missions,” System 111 explained.
“Host, do you want to enter the second world now, or rest a while in the system space?” The little light ball snuggled into Ji Wan’s embrace.
Ji Wan stroked the fluffy little ball without speaking. She felt an inexplicable emptiness in her heart. After a moment of thought, she said, “Let’s go.” After all, 10 million RMB was a very tempting prize.
“Alright, Host. Now transmitting you to World Two,” System 111 announced. A flash of white light passed, and Ji Wan was once again unconscious.
…
World Two: A New Mission
Loading the host into “The Heroic Destiny of the Righteous Path (No-CP)”
The female protagonist, Lin Morou, is the only daughter of the righteous Lin family. When she was ten years old, her entire family was annihilated by the Demon Lord Tyrant Shadow. Lin Morou, the sole surviving family member, was taken in by the Sect Master of the Frozen Feather Immortal Sect, Dugu Nuo. From then on, she embarked on a journey of cultivation, with the goal of washing the Demon Realm in blood, killing the Demon Lord, and bringing peace to the world.
The female protagonist has exceptional talent and high aptitude. In just ten years, she cultivated to the Soul Transformation stage. She joined the righteous army in their campaign against the Demon Realm and dealt the Demon Lord a fatal blow. A hundred years later, she ascended, becoming a role model for the entire cultivation world.
The female supporting character, Ji Wan, is the eldest disciple of the Frozen Feather Sect Master and the female protagonist’s senior sister. Her talent is decent, but she is obsessed with fame. After the female protagonist’s reputation surpasses hers, she becomes resentful and constantly makes things difficult for her. Her true identity is a half-human, half-demon hybrid. She was adopted and raised by the sect master as a baby. Out of jealousy, she secretly leaks the plan to the Demon Lord. After her bloodline awakens, she is discovered and killed by the female protagonist. Her death helps the female protagonist become the leader of the immortal sects’ campaign against the Demon Realm, greatly boosting her cultivation.
…
Meeting the Master
Ji Wan woke up, lying on a wooden bed with decorative carvings. She rubbed her head, which felt a little sore after receiving the original character’s memories. She looked around the room. Her first impression was that it was clean and simple, without any flashy decorations.
Then she looked down at her noticeably shrunken hands and walked in a daze to the only dressing table in the room. A cute little girl looked back at her.
“Isn’t this what I looked like when I was little? What’s going on, Little 1?” Ji Wan asked in confusion.
“Uh, Host, aren’t you supposed to help the female lead cultivate to the Foundation Establishment stage? Now you can teach her,” System 111 explained.
“How old am I now?” Ji Wan asked, touching her soft, chubby cheeks.
“You’re two years older than the female protagonist, so you’re twelve. The female protagonist is about to enter the Frozen Feather Sect. Please complete your mission diligently,” System 111 encouraged.
“Okay, I get it. You can go now. I’ll call you if I need you,” Ji Wan said, continuing to admire her appearance. She even twirled around a few times in front of the bronze mirror on the dressing table.
“Alright. Oh, by the way, when I’m not here, there will be a sub-system to help you. It will measure how well you’re making things difficult for the female protagonist,” System 111 said before its voice completely disappeared.
“Oh,” Ji Wan replied with little reaction. It was just a monitoring tool, after all.
After getting used to her younger appearance, Ji Wan lay down on the bed to think about the mission. The original character’s talent was decent; she had reached the beginner level of Foundation Establishment at the age of twelve, which was quite a feat. Ji Wan mused that if it weren’t for the female protagonist, the original owner’s life might have been quite smooth.
The mission, however, was a bit confusing. The first two parts were pretty normal, but the last one gave Ji Wan a sense of fear. Her life was on the line with this mission. Ji Wan complained silently.
Knock, knock. The wooden door was knocked on from outside.
“Senior Sister Ji Wan, the Sect Master wants to see you,” a disciple called out.
“I know,” Ji Wan replied in a cold, aloof voice, mimicking the original character’s persona.
Ji Wan then took out her sword, following the original character’s memory, planning to do a cool sword flight. But she realized her cultivation level wasn’t high enough to do it.
Defeated, she resigned herself to walking to the Sect Master’s residence. As soon as she entered the door, a joyful voice cried out, “My darling baby Wanwan!” Ji Wan quickly took a step back, her body instinctively moving away from the Sect Master, Dugu Nuo, who was trying to pounce on her.
“Master, your image,” Ji Wan said calmly, glancing at the woman who looked sad and accused her for not hugging her. She was a woman in her forties, yet still acted so spoiled. Ji Wan couldn’t handle it. No matter how beautiful she was, it was too much.
As soon as her disciple reminded her, Dugu Nuo immediately reverted to her dignified immortal persona. But her eyes still stared at her longingly. There was nothing she could do about it. Dugu Nuo was only cold in front of others. Having been raised by her, Ji Wan knew her all too well. She was a lazy, playful, and irresponsible woman who left all the sect’s affairs to the elders and did whatever she wanted. Her only notable quality was probably her Body Integration cultivation, making her more like a sect mascot. Ji Wan had no idea how she managed to hold a high position among the other sect masters, all of whom were at the Tribulation stage.
But despite this, Ji Wan still respected her from the bottom of her heart. When the original character was suspected of being a demon spy, this unreliable master had stood up to protect her. After the original owner’s death, this master had been the one to collect her body, so she wouldn’t be left to rot.
Ji Wan could only give her a perfunctory hug. Dugu Nuo’s face lit up, and she happily turned around to talk about business. Honestly, it’s a good thing no one else is here, or someone would lecture us again, Ji Wan thought, looking at her master, who acted more like a child than she did.
“Uh, Wanwan, your Master plans to take in a pitiful little girl as a disciple. Don’t be jealous. I’m definitely not taking her in because she’s cute. Her family was wiped out, and I was afraid she’d be killed, too, so I brought her back,” Dugu Nuo said. Her dignified persona only lasted three seconds. She spoke in such a rush that you’d think she was a machine gun.
Ji Wan calmly watched her Master’s flustered explanation, sat down, and poured herself a cup of tea. She slowly sipped the high-grade tea from the Jade Dew Immortal Sect’s tea garden, brewed with spring water from the Spirit Dream Immortal Sect. She had no idea where a poor place like the Frozen Feather Sect got so many good things.
When Dugu Nuo finally finished her long speech, Ji Wan calmly put down her cup. “Then take her in as a disciple. You can arrange for her to live with me.”
Dugu Nuo was stunned. What? Is that it? My good disciple isn’t jealous? She’s not going to hug me and act spoiled?
“Wanwan, you’re going to lose your master, woo-woo-woo,” Dugu Nuo said, acting all dramatic.
Ji Wan looked at Dugu Nuo’s self-directed performance without saying a word. When Dugu Nuo felt she had cried enough, she peeked through her fingers to see Ji Wan’s reaction. But there was no one there. Ji Wan had already left, completely ignoring her, to go see her new junior sister. Sadness swelled up inside Dugu Nuo. She decided she was going to run away from home.
Ji Wan brought the still-unconscious Lin Morou back to her residence. Honestly, was the female protagonist this cute when she was little?
In the modern world, she’d be an easy target for kidnappers. She looked as beautiful as a delicate porcelain doll. Ji Wan looked at the tiny figure sleeping on the bed. Her skin was fair and rosy. Her eyelashes were thick and long, and her pink lips were pursed uneasily. You could already tell from her features that she would grow up to be an unparalleled beauty.
Ji Wan couldn’t help but let her mischievous hand reach out and touch the female protagonist’s smooth, delicate face. She even gave it a little pinch. The skin felt soft and supple, incredibly bouncy.
Suddenly, the little figure on the bed seemed to feel something. She shifted vigilantly but didn’t wake up. She just mumbled, “Stop it, Mommy, don’t…”
Seeing the trembling, helpless female protagonist, Ji Wan sat by the bed and gently patted Lin Morou’s back, soothing her. “It’s okay. Don’t be scared. Everything’s fine now. You’re safe.” Even though she knew it was all part of the plot, Ji Wan still felt a pang of sympathy for the child.
Under Ji Wan’s comforting touch, Lin Morou fell back into a deep sleep, her hand tightly clutching Ji Wan’s clothes and not letting go. It was a good thing she couldn’t see this, or it would be hard for her to make things difficult for her later.
Lin Morou woke up to no one around. She looked around vigilantly. She remembered that an immortal had saved her, and she had begged the immortal to take her as a disciple to avenge her parents. So, she was now at the immortal’s place.
“You’re awake,” a mature young woman walked in, holding a bowl of medicine.
“Immortal Master, please take me as your disciple,” Lin Morou said upon seeing her. She disregarded her injuries, got out of bed, and knelt down, kowtowing heavily.
“Oh, don’t kneel! You’re still injured. I’ll take you, I’ll take you! Get up quickly!” The sudden spectacle almost made Dugu Nuo lose her dignified immortal demeanor.
“Thank you, Master,” Lin Morou said, lifting her red forehead.
“Sigh, what a pity. Another ice sculpture,” Dugu Nuo thought to herself, looking at the child’s cold expression.
“I will be away for some time. For your initial cultivation, go to your Senior Sister Ji Wan. She lives right next door. Just listen to everything she says,” Dugu Nuo said in a calm, aloof tone. She was unaware that her heart was already jumping for joy, eager to leave.
“Yes,” Lin Morou replied.
“Good. You should rest well. Your Senior Sister will come tomorrow to help you with your cultivation. Drink this bowl of medicine, and your injuries should be healed by tomorrow.” Dugu Nuo didn’t stay long and left.
Lin Morou stood up and walked to the window, gazing at the bright moon in the night sky. “Father, Mother, your daughter will definitely avenge you. I will wash the Demon Realm in blood and spare no demon.” Despite her young age, Lin Morou’s eyes were filled with determination and hatred, along with an unnatural coldness and maturity.
