I Just Want to be a Throwaway Character - Chapter 13
Chapter 13: World One
Afraid of causing a commotion, Ji Wan quickly hailed a taxi and rushed Gu Nianqing to the nearest hospital.
She also made a call to inform her grandparents at home and Gu Nianqing’s family.
Watching Gu Nianqing clinging to her non-stop, Ji Wan felt helpless.
The current Gu Nianqing seemed to have contracted some strange illness. Her behavior was odd, and she was stuck to Ji Wan like glue.
She clung to her while walking, during hospital checks, when Ji Wan went to the restroom to remove her makeup, and even when the nurse was setting up the IV drip.
Gu Nianqing said nothing, her eyes fixed on Ji Wan, her hand gripping tightly, afraid that she might run away.
Seeing Gu Nianqing’s rarely seen pale and fragile look, completely devoid of the overbearing manner she had when she forcefully kissed her before, Ji Wan felt a rare pang of sympathy. She gently coaxed Gu Nianqing, “How about you sleep for a bit? I’ll just sit beside you.”
But Gu Nianqing still didn’t say a word, just stubbornly gripped her hand, her eyes resolute.
When Gu Nianqing’s parents walked into the private room, they saw their daughter clinging to the Ji family’s young girl like a hooligan, completely out of character from her usual cool and distant self—she looked like a clingy pest.
Yet, just before, she had been extremely disdainful of the young girl.
Now, she wouldn’t even look at her own parents, simply holding on to the other girl’s hand.
Mother Gu felt quite saddened by the sight.
Noticing someone entering, Ji Wan initially thought it was the nurse.
Turning around, she saw two very well-maintained middle-aged couples, one of whom bore a strong resemblance to Gu Nianqing.
The look they gave her and Gu Nianqing was indescribable. It was a complex mix of relief, joy, and various other emotions.
Ji Wan knew immediately who they were without guessing. She hastily tried to shake off Gu Nianqing’s hand to get up and greet them.
But Gu Nianqing’s grip was tight and unyielding.
Ji Wan couldn’t be sure, but Mother Gu’s eyes seemed to be sparkling. It was the look of someone whose “CP” ship had just sailed.
Ji Wan turned back, wanting to cry but unable to, and awkwardly greeted Father and Mother Gu, “Hello, Uncle and Auntie.”
It’s over. She thought. Now, even jumping into the Yellow River won’t clear up the misunderstanding about her relationship with Gu Nianqing.
“Oh, hello. Is this our future daughter-in-law… Ah, no, Wanwan? Please stay with our Qingqing in the room for a bit. Auntie is going to the doctor to pick up a report.”
Mother Gu said this while dragging her straight-laced husband out of the room. She thoughtfully closed the door, leaving the space for her daughter and her future daughter-in-law.
“Gu Nianqing, let go. I should go home,” Ji Wan said irritably to her.
But the only reply was the cool, sharp scent of mint.
Oh no, that dizzy spell again.
Ji Wan’s body involuntarily went soft.
Gu Nianqing gently pulled the dizzy Ji Wan into her arms, holding her close and lightly stroking her head.
Ji Wan was already physically and mentally exhausted from being tormented by Gu Nianqing all evening. In a short while, she fell asleep, lulled by the mint scent.
An SSS-level Alpha pheromone can exert a certain level of control over the brain nerves of un-differentiated individuals, such as hypnosis.
When Mother Gu returned to the room, she saw her daughter holding the sleeping girl, staring at her with a dazed, loving look in her eyes.
Seeing her enter, Gu Nianqing shot her a look that clearly meant get out quickly. It was quite ruthless.
Mother Gu felt that her daughter had grown up and was ready to “snatch the cabbage” (secure a partner).
But the problem was, Ji Wan’s grandparents called asking when their granddaughter would return!
How was she supposed to explain this?
Recalling Grandfather Ji’s tone—the one used to guard against perverts—and then looking at her daughter’s shameless actions, Mother Gu decided to let her husband handle it. She couldn’t endure the questioning tone of the Ji family elders.
Father Gu lovingly patted his distressed wife’s head outside the room. “Alright, I’ll take care of it. Don’t worry.”
“It’s all your fault. You made our daughter so much like you—cold and aloof, and manipulative. She hasn’t been cute since she was a child,” Mother Gu scolded, swatting his hand away.
“Yes, my fault,” Father Gu smiled helplessly.
Thinking of Gu Nianqing’s SSS-level Alpha test results, which might help secure an engagement with the Ji family girl, he felt a little more confident.
Then, they left, giving the two people in the room some space.
Gu Nianqing gazed at the sleeping girl in her arms: her fair, unmade-up skin, her rosy lips, her curled eyelashes.
Every detail drew her attention.
She thought she could have endured until the summer break ended.
She believed Ji Wan would fall in love with her again, that this was just a childish tantrum.
But she was wrong, wildly wrong.
The girl’s distance, and the large number of suitors around her, all served to provoke her.
They told her that Ji Wan would no longer cling desperately to her heels.
Ji Wan was different now, so Gu Nianqing could no longer remain calm or restrain the growing possessiveness she felt for the girl.
Gu Nianqing herself didn’t know when she had fallen for Ji Wan. When she finally realized it, Ji Wan had already firmly occupied her heart.
“Ji Wan, what am I supposed to do with you? Please love me again, will you? Give me one more chance.”
Looking at the sleeping girl, Gu Nianqing whispered, lightly kissing Ji Wan’s corner of the lips.
The girl slept soundly and did not reply to Gu Nianqing.
The morning sun streamed through the curtains, falling upon the two girls peacefully asleep in an embrace. Everything was so beautiful.
Perhaps stimulated by the sunlight, Ji Wan’s thick, curled, raven-black lashes fluttered twice, and she opened her eyes.
Her moist eyes were hazy and endearing.
She stared at the enlarged face of the sleeping beauty before her, feeling a little confused.
Who is she? Where is she?
As her memory slowly returned, she realized her hand was still wrapped around Gu Nianqing’s slender waist.
Ji Wan scrambled to get up, planning her escape.
After all, things like pheromones were too metaphysical, and she felt she was in over her head.
As Ji Wan frantically searched for her shoes by the hospital bed, a beautiful, slightly hoarse voice of someone just waking up sounded from behind her, “Where are you going?”
Ji Wan’s shoe-grabbing posture shook, and the high heel slipped from her hand, dropping to the floor with a thump.
Ji Wan was a little stiff, but then she thought, I’m older than this kid in front of me, what is there to be afraid of?
So she turned around resolutely. “Th-that… I’m… I’m going home.”
Damn it, why am I stuttering?!
Puchi. System 111’s heartless laughter reached Ji Wan’s ears, and her ears instantly flushed red.
She definitely had to kill this deceptive program.
After blocking the system, Ji Wan looked nervously at the silent Gu Nianqing staring at her.
Thinking it was still a side effect from last night, she waved her hand at Gu Nianqing and made a peace sign. “What number is this?”
The air was quiet, the atmosphere dead silent.
Ji Wan felt awkward and retracted her hand. She planned to leave as soon as possible and sleep soundly for days.
The moment she got out of bed, a long, warm hand tightly grabbed her wrist.
Gu Nianqing, freshly awake, did not possess her usual dignified, elegant, cold, and noble demeanor.
Her slightly messy hair partially obscured her eyes, and her clothes were not as neat as usual, creating an alternative beauty that captivated the eye.
“Ji Wan, say yes to me, will you?” Her thin lips parted, her cold voice infused with seduction.
Ji Wan, whose eyes were suddenly dizzied by the beauty, declared, Hmph, what great storms haven’t I weathered? I’m not panicking.
Then Ji Wan, super confidently, blurted out, “I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I won’t agree.”
Her voice was firm, but with a slight tremble.
Ji Wan wanted to decisively shake off Gu Nianqing’s hand and make a cool, irresponsible exit like a heartless woman, slamming the door behind her.
But she found that she couldn’t break free at all, which made her angry.
“Ji Wan, be with me. I won’t push you away again. Let’s go back to how we were before.”
Gu Nianqing continued, her tone completely even, as if discussing what to eat for breakfast.
But only Gu Nianqing knew how nervous she was.
“Damn, you dog of a woman.” Ji Wan felt like she was laughed into anger. What kind of logic is that? ‘Before’?
Does she want me to continue being her simpering fan?
“Gu Nianqing, oh no, Miss Gu. I am telling you again: I, Ji Wan, did not, do not, and will not like you.
What makes you think I’ll cling to you desperately like the former me?
There are so many hot guys waiting to ‘bite’ this beautiful swan of mine.
Why should I like someone who was utterly cold to me and looked down on me?
Your sudden interest in me is just a fleeting whim because you’ve lost me, your ultimate fan-level admirer.
You and I ultimately belong to different worlds.
From now on, we go our separate ways. I won’t appear in front of you, and please, don’t disturb me.
I will only be friends with rich tycoons from now on.”
Having machine-gunned Gu Nianqing with this tirade, Ji Wan felt all her confusion and melancholy from the past few days vanish.
Her mood instantly brightened, and she felt like she could eat three more bowls of rice.
Her mind was suddenly clear.
Little did she know, with every sentence she spoke, Gu Nianqing’s face darkened one notch more, and her eyes looked as if she wanted to devour her alive.
“You hate me?” Gu Nianqing yanked Ji Wan into an embrace, grabbed her chin, and forced Ji Wan to face her, her tone laced with danger.
The cold, sharp mint scent in the air intensified.
Sensing the frightening aura in the air, Ji Wan instinctively shivered.
“Gu Nianqing, I don’t like you. Isn’t that what you wanted to see the most?”
Ji Wan stubbornly put on a fierce face, glaring at Gu Nianqing and struggling to break free.
But her feet had already begun to tremble uncontrollably.
Gu Nianqing’s lips were pressed into a tight, white line due to the force.
She felt helpless and regretful. Yes, I was the one who pushed Ji Wan away. What right do I have to loftily ask Ji Wan to come back?
Gu Nianqing’s grip on Ji Wan’s hand loosened. Ji Wan took the opportunity to break free and retreated to the foot of the bed, putting distance between herself and Gu Nianqing.
Looking at Gu Nianqing’s obscure eyes, Ji Wan was still a bit afraid.
Who knows what she’ll do next? If she kisses me again, my position as a ‘fierce top’ will truly be lost.
Does my universally invincible—peerless, fierce top—virtuous and beautiful—supremely lucky—gorgeous girl not deserve some dignity?
“Will I only be qualified to get to know you again, to approach you… if I become a tycoon?”
…and to possess you. Gu Nianqing silently added in her heart.
Huh?
So, my whole long, sincere speech just now…
…all you heard was “friends with tycoons”???
Ji Wan gave the stubbornly staring Gu Nianqing a complex look and dumbly nodded.
Forget it, forget it. Mission first. I need to log off soon.
Ji Wan thought.
Then it will truly be ‘we go our separate ways,’ never to cross paths again.
Ji Wan didn’t know why, but her heart felt a little sore.
Then Gu Nianqing watched helplessly as Ji Wan put on her shoes and walked out the door.
She was still the same beautiful figure, but now Gu Nianqing no longer had the right to possess her.
Even a second glance was merely wishful thinking…
Ji Wan arrived at the Ji family’s old residence smoothly. She obediently responded to her grandparents’ concerns, ate her belated breakfast, and headed up to her room.
She took a shower, changed into her cartoon nightgown, flopped into bed, and in a good mood, released System 111.
“Ooh, host darling, you finally let your little darling out! I’m so touched!”
System 111 said dramatically, the little light orb instantly circling around Ji Wan.
