I Have a Date with the CEO [Transmigration Novel] - Chapter 3
Xie Nanyin couldn’t figure out who it was, but Qiao Jinyi knew. Hearing the words and seeing the displeased expression on Xie Nanyin’s face, she quickly stood up and clumsily defended the person who had shouted: “Nanyin, don’t be angry. Zhiyin is just concerned about you.”
Xie Nanyin’s sour expression vanished instantly, not because her anger had subsided, but because she’d completely forgotten to be mad. The moment she heard Xie Zhiyin’s name, memories of her flooded her mind.
Xie Zhiyin, four years younger than Xie Nanyin and now twenty-two, had idolized Qiao Jinyi since childhood. When they were little, Qiao Jinyi used to follow the original host, while Xie Zhiyin, the original host’s younger sister, followed Qiao Jinyi, being her devoted fan.
Knowing how Xie Nanyin treated Qiao Jinyi, Xie Zhiyin often argued with the original host over her, even trying to tell their parents in hopes of getting her to behave.
But while the original host wouldn’t bother pretending in front of her younger sister, she put on a perfect act in front of their parents. This made the Xie parents see only a perfectly loving couple in their daughter and Qiao Jinyi.
Moreover, Qiao Jinyi always played along with the original host’s act, so the original host never worried about being exposed. The Xie parents, seeing their daughter and Qiao Jinyi so devoted to each other, simply dismissed Xie Zhiyin’s complaints as childish tantrums.
After all, Xie Zhiyin’s fondness for Qiao Jinyi had been obvious since childhood.
Qiao Jinyi’s parents had passed away early, leaving behind a substantial fortune. Father Xie and Father Qiao were old comrades, and Qiao Jinyi had always been indifferent to worldly affairs. Before his death, Father Qiao entrusted his daughter to Father Xie and offered half of his wealth as a token of gratitude, all so Qiao Jinyi could pursue her passions.
The Xie family took full control of the Qiao family’s assets. Father Xie wasn’t one for greed; he faithfully transferred the annual profits to Qiao Jinyi’s account and never touched the half of the fortune Father Qiao had offered him.
He treated Qiao Jinyi even better than his own two daughters. Knowing she had feelings for Xie Nanyin, he actively encouraged their relationship.
When Xie Zhiyin heard her sister was ill, her first thought was that she was scheming another prank to mess with “Sister” Qiao Jinyi. Unable to sit still, she hopped in her car and rushed to the villa where the two were staying.
Before she even reached the gate, Xie Zhiyin bellowed, “Xie Nanyin! Xie Nanyin, are you even alive in there?!”
Inside, Xie Nanyin cradled her head as Qiao Jinyi stumbled through her clumsy explanation. One crisis after another! she thought, inwardly groaning.
Frowning, Xie Nanyin glanced toward the door and saw a girl approaching. She wore a white blouse and a denim skirt, carried a white purse slung over her arm, and had lightly made-up features that still carried a hint of baby fat.
The girl’s casual, flippant expression shattered her innocent facade. She addressed Xie Nanyin with a nonchalant, “Hey, aren’t you doing just fine?” making Xie Nanyin want to punch her.
Before Xie Nanyin could respond, Xie Zhiyin’s expression shifted like a quick-change artist’s, transforming into a charming smile. She even adopted a childlike gait, skipping over to Qiao Jinyi and throwing an arm around her. “Good morning, Sister Jinyi! Have you had breakfast yet?”
Xie Nanyin was astonished. Hiss~ What a difference! she thought, though she kept the exclamation to herself, silently grumbling inwardly.
It was unclear why Xie Zhiyin had come. Afraid of revealing her suspicions, Xie Nanyin remained silent, simply watching the pair.
Qiao Jinyi seemed uncomfortable with Xie Zhiyin clinging to her. Despite having known each other for over twenty years, she still wasn’t used to such intimate physical contact.
Qiao Jinyi gently extricated her arm from Xie Zhiyin’s embrace, answering, “I’ve eaten. Have you had breakfast, Zhiyin?”
Xie Zhiyin, who had rushed over without eating, immediately pouted. “I haven’t eaten at all! I’m starving!” She quickly pulled Qiao Jinyi’s arm back into her embrace, thwarting her earlier escape.
Qiao Jinyi secretly glanced at Xie Nanyin, feeling nervous at the woman’s impassive expression and silence. Afraid she might be angry, she quickly excused herself, “I’ll have Zhang Ma prepare breakfast for you. Wait here a moment.”
With that, she slipped away from Xie Zhiyin, making sure to inform Xie Nanyin, “Nanyin, I’m going to the kitchen.”
Hearing Qiao Jinyi’s habitual check-in, Xie Nanyin nodded. She was used to Qiao Jinyi informing her of everything she did these past few days. “Okay.”
Only after Qiao Jinyi’s figure had disappeared did Xie Nanyin finally tear her gaze away. Ignoring Xie Zhiyin, who still stood nearby, she returned to the sofa and resumed scrolling through her phone, checking if she had any presence on Qidian or Qiao Ke.
Using the same method as before, she searched her name again, only to be bitterly disappointed—there was nothing at all!
In her previous life, Xie Zhiyin had been the president of a major corporation, even if the position had been inherited from her parents. She’d still made the finance magazines and news channels, and her Weibo account had boasted several hundred thousand followers!
Watching Xie Nanyin completely ignore her, absorbed in her phone on the sofa, Xie Zhiyin’s anger flared. She crossed her arms and sat down heavily on the opposite sofa, letting out a huff to draw her sister’s attention.
Sensing the force of Xie Zhiyin’s movement and hearing her huff, Xie Nanyin glanced up briefly.
Xie Zhiyin tensed as their eyes met, her hands unconsciously clenching. She still felt nervous around her older sister, despite knowing Xie Nanyin wouldn’t harm her. The natural dominance of blood ties still weighed heavily on her.
Bracing herself for a torrent of criticism and icy stares, Xie Zhiyin was stunned when Xie Nanyin merely glanced at her before nonchalantly lowering her gaze again. She even thought she detected a condescending look, as if she were looking at a child.
Xie Zhiyin bristled, jabbing a finger at her. “What’s that look for?! Do you look down on me?!”
Xie Nanyin, caught off guard by the accusation, frowned. “I don’t look down on you,” she insisted.
Xie Zhiyin found this even stranger. Normally, if she pointed at Xie Nanyin so rudely, she would have gotten a beating. But today, not only did she escape punishment, she even heard something that sounded like an explanation.
She stared at Xie Nanyin with suspicion. “Are you up to some scheme? Why are you being so nice today?”
It seemed like she was remembering something. “You wouldn’t be plotting to frame me again, would you? By telling Mom and Dad that I have a crush on Jinyi-jiejie, just to ground me!”
Hearing this, Xie Nanyin thought back and recalled a similar incident in the original host’s memories. Xie Zhiyin had been afraid that Xie Nanyin was bullying Qiao Jinyi, so she had stubbornly refused to leave and constantly clashed with the original host.
The original host had complained to Father Xie and Mother Xie, claiming that Xie Zhiyin was interfering with her relationship with Qiao Jinyi, even fabricating a story about having a crush on her. As a result, Father Xie and Mother Xie had dragged Xie Zhiyin home and put her under house arrest. Now that her confinement had eased slightly, she had rushed back here without hesitation.
Xie Nanyin looked at the aggressively confrontational Xie Zhiyin, a wave of exasperation washing over her. How unreliable is this original host? she thought. Even her own sister doesn’t trust her, and I have to clean up her messes!
Before Xie Nanyin could respond, Xie Zhiyin interrupted with a series of loud gurgles and burps.
Just then, Qiao Jinyi arrived, followed by Zhang Ma. Qiao Jinyi turned to Xie Zhiyin and said, “Zhiyin, eat something first.”
Hearing this, Xie Zhiyin immediately spun around and headed toward the food, but not before glaring at Xie Nanyin and snarling, “I’ll be back after I’m full!”
Xie Nanyin let out a soft sigh, watching Qiao Jinyi’s retreating figure with a hint of gratitude. “Finally, I’ve managed to escape this troublemaker, if only for a little while.” With that thought, she settled back down.
Qiao Jinyi turned just in time to see Xie Nanyin lying down, a flicker of confusion in her eyes. But before she could dwell on it, Xie Zhiyin tugged at her. “Jinyi-jiejie, play with me!”
Qiao Jinyi didn’t resist and followed.
