I Have a Date with the CEO [Transmigration Novel] - Chapter 1
“Xie Nanyin! You bitch!” Xie Nanyin straightened up momentarily, instinctively glancing back. She was slightly out of breath, perhaps due to the high altitude, her exhaled breath trailing faint wisps of white mist.
Indeed, Xie Nanyin was mountain climbing, paying little attention to the verbal abuse coming from the phone. She rubbed her ear. “Listen, Miss, it’s just a novel! Do you really need to call me this every day?”
Jian Yueyue was Xie Nanyin’s close friend. For some reason, she had recently started reading a novel where the villainess shared Xie Nanyin’s exact name. As she read, she subconsciously began identifying the fictional character with her friend, growing increasingly infuriated by the character’s actions. Now, Jian Yueyue was taking her anger out on Xie Nanyin, calling her a “bitch” daily.
The outburst was as quick as it was fleeting. Almost immediately after yelling, she asked, “Where are you? I haven’t seen you in days.”
Xie Nanyin smiled, her voice sincere. “I’m on the summit of Mount Tai, getting ready to watch the sunrise.”
Jian Yueyue couldn’t help but snap back, “You have the nerve to go mountain climbing and watch the sunrise after hurting Qiaoqiao so badly?!”
Xie Nanyin knew exactly who Qiaoqiao was—the female lead in the novel. She’d heard the name so many times in the past few days that her ears were practically raw, and she had no patience for Jian Yueyue’s nagging. “Alright, alright, I’m hanging up now! Stop bothering your dad!”
Perhaps worn out from the climb, Xie Nanyin had unconsciously shifted from standing upright into a more comfortable, slightly hunched posture. When she suddenly straightened her head, a wave of dizziness washed over her, and she toppled backward.
In the split second before she fell, Xie Nanyin glimpsed the faintly rising sun in the distance, its rays already painting the surrounding sea of clouds with a rosy glow. This sunrise is truly beautiful, she thought absurdly, befitting the foremost of the Five Great Mountains. It was worth the trip!
Before she could even hang up, Jian Yueyue heard a sudden crash, followed by a brief, stifled groan. A sense of dread washed over her. “Xie Nanyin! Xie Nanyin! Nanyin!” she cried out, panic rising in her voice.
“I’m sorry, I was wrong!” was the first thing Xie Nanyin heard when she opened her eyes. The voice was clear and melodious, yet thick with an unsettling emotion.
Xie Nanyin turned her head and saw a slender figure before her. The casual clothes hung loosely on her frame, her eyes were downcast, and her pale lips framed an elegant face etched with anxiety and guilt.
This can’t be… Who is this?
Xie Nanyin was stunned. Didn’t I fall off a cliff while climbing? Why am I not in a hospital? And why doesn’t it hurt? She touched her head. Just a moment ago, my head was throbbing with pain. What happened? Did I die?
She looked the figure up and down, thinking, This doesn’t look like heaven. Could someone have saved me?
Qiao Jinyi watched Xie Nanyin’s shifting expressions, growing increasingly uneasy. “Nanyin…”
Xie Nanyin’s mind was in chaos. “Who are you?” she blurted out.
Qiao Jinyi’s panic intensified. She grabbed Xie Nanyin’s sleeve, her voice pleading. “Nanyin, I was wrong! I won’t go to school without permission again. Please forgive me!”
Still utterly confused, Xie Nanyin wondered, What on earth is going on? Just as she was about to ask, a middle-aged woman she hadn’t noticed earlier spoke up. “Madam, Miss was only trying to teach the student a lesson out of kindness. Please don’t be angry.”
Just as she was about to ask for clarification, a sharp pain pierced her head. Memories flooded her mind like a tidal wave, the overwhelming sensation forcing her to clutch her head and collapse.
Qiao Jinyi, standing nearby, noticed something was wrong and lunged forward to catch the falling woman. Seeing her unconscious, panic set in. She frantically called out, “Nanyin! Nanyin, what’s wrong? Nanyin, wake up!”
It was Zhang Ma, who had been standing nearby all along, who reacted first. “Miss Qiao, call the doctor! Quickly, call the doctor!”
Qiao Jinyi snapped back to her senses. She pulled out her phone from her pocket and dialed the family doctor, her hands trembling uncontrollably.
Xie Nanyin struggled to open her eyes, staring blankly at the pristine white ceiling. It took a moment for the reality to sink in.
She had transmigrated into a novel—a story where everyone meets a tragic end. The female protagonist, Qiao Jinyi, had loved her childhood sweetheart, Xie Nanyin, since they were young. Despite Xie Nanyin’s hatred, bullying, and verbal abuse, Qiao Jinyi’s affection remained unwavering. Even when she learned that Xie Nanyin’s marriage proposal was driven by ulterior motives, she remained completely unconcerned.
Even after marriage, the original character continued to emotionally abuse the female lead. Whether it was karma or not, the original character unexpectedly met his demise halfway through the story. While one might have thought the female lead would finally be freed, it instead became her obsession. She obsessively collected items resembling the original character, even resorting to criminal acts, which ultimately landed her in jail.
Xie Nanyin knew the entire plot thanks to Jian Yueyue, who had been constantly nagging her about it. But the mere thought of Jian Yueyue filled her with fury. It was all her fault! She’d always treated Xie Nanyin like the villainess from the book, and now it had come true!
Looking at the girl whose hand tightly gripped hers, Xie Nanyin’s eyes held a complex mix of emotions. Having inherited the original host’s memories, she felt nothing but pity for the girl. Thinking of her future fate, she couldn’t tell if her feelings were deep affection or twisted obsession.
Xie Nanyin tried to subtly pull her hand free, but the slightest movement woke the already restless sleeper.
The girl, undisturbed by the interruption, simply rubbed her sleepy eyes. Her usually aloof features now looked as innocent and naive as a child’s.
Qiao Jinyi froze for a few seconds before snapping back to alertness. Before Xie Nanyin could free her hand, it was gripped even tighter, and Qiao Jinyi anxiously asked, “Nanyin, are you alright?”
Before Xie Nanyin could respond, their eyes met. For some inexplicable reason, Qiao Jinyi immediately released her hand and took a few steps back, putting distance between them.
Xie Nanyin was still bewildered when Qiao Jinyi spoke, her voice hesitant. “I’m sorry. I was too worried about you just now and overstepped my bounds. It won’t happen again.”
Xie Nanyin didn’t understand what she was saying and could only squeeze out a single word from her throat: “Mm.”
No sooner had she spoken than fragmented memories drifted through her mind. In one of them, a frowning Xie Nanyin was ordering Qiao Jinyi, “Don’t touch me without my permission from now on! Keep your distance from me!”
Xie Nanyin pressed a hand to her forehead, inwardly grumbling, What was wrong with the original owner’s head? If she didn’t like him, why did she even marry him? Why go to such extremes?
Just as she was about to say something to ease the tension, she realized that Qiao Jinyi seemed accustomed to this. Not only was she not angry, she even seemed pleased. She was delighted that Xie Nanyin hadn’t scolded her this time, but actually responded—even if it was just a single word. That alone made her heart leap with joy.
Qiao Jinyi looked at the weak-looking figure lying on the bed and suggested, “You must be hungry, right? I asked Zhang Ma to make congee. I’ll go check on it.”
Watching Qiao Jinyi’s hurried figure disappear from the room, Xie Nanyin paid her no mind. She clutched her head, exclaiming inwardly, I really transmigrated into this book! This isn’t a dream!
Even as she was about to faint, Xie Nanyin still found the idea of transmigrating into a novel somewhat surreal. But after a good night’s sleep, she woke up completely refreshed.
Rubbing her messy hair, she muttered, “Well, since I’ve already transmigrated, might as well go with it.” Remembering how she must have fallen off a mountain while hiking, she figured she should have been dead or at least crippled. “Not a bad deal,” she mumbled. With this comforting thought, Xie Nanyin instantly felt much better.
Just as she calmed down, someone gently knocked on the door. Xie Nanyin already knew who it was and called out, “Come in.”
After a few seconds of silence, the door slowly creaked open. Qiao Jinyi entered, carefully holding a bowl. “Nanyin, the congee is ready.”
Xie Nanyin patted her stomach, realizing she was indeed hungry. She smiled at Qiao Jinyi. “Thank you.”
Qiao Jinyi froze, stunned. The woman who had never smiled at her since their marriage had just smiled at her.
Nervously, she approached with stiff movements and placed the bowl of congee on the bedside table. “Nanyin, please have some congee.” Then she instinctively took a few steps back.
Xie Nanyin found the situation amusing. Tilting her head in a playful manner, she said, “Won’t you feed me? I’m the patient, you know.”
After hearing her words, Qiao Jinyi’s expression turned strangely conflicted—was it shyness, anticipation, nervousness, or fear? All sorts of emotions seemed to mix together, causing her face to alternate between pale and flushed.
Xie Nanyin had no idea that her casual remark would put Qiao Jinyi in such a difficult position. Suddenly, fragmented memories flashed through her mind, providing the answer.
In her memories, Xie Nanyin lay pale-faced in bed while Qiao Jinyi stood nearby, holding a bowl. Xie Nanyin spoke lazily, “Jinyi, feed me.”
The past Qiao Jinyi’s face flushed crimson with joy as she eagerly approached. But as she drew near, Xie Nanyin suddenly snapped, knocking the bowl of soup to the floor. “Who let you get so close to me?!”
Qiao Jinyi froze, the spilled soup splattering onto her hand and turning her palm red. “I…”
The past Xie Nanyin merely glanced at her. “Get out.” Then, with a mocking tone, “Don’t forget to apply ointment. We can’t afford to damage the Grand Chief’s precious hands.”
Xie Nanyin wanted to bury her face in her hands. What was wrong with this original owner?! Now, watching Qiao Jinyi’s face shifting through a kaleidoscope of emotions, Xie Nanyin forced an awkward smile. “Heh, I was just joking. I can feed myself.”
She drained the still-warm congee in one gulp and handed the empty bowl to Qiao Jinyi. “That’s better. I’m a bit tired now, so I’m going to rest.”
Qiao Jinyi watched the woman lie down without speaking, then quietly left the room with the empty bowl.
