I Came From Heaven [Transmigration/Time-Travel] - Chapter 6
Chapter 6
“Esteemed guest, this way please.”
Just as I was about to speak and continue our chat, the waiter scurried over with an enthusiastic greeting, interrupting our conversation. Shui Xin’s cold demeanor remained unchanged; seeing a stranger approach, she stopped talking. A full day had passed since I was hit by a car and found myself in this fictional world, and a wave of infinite fatigue washed over me. I simply shut my mouth and trailed behind the waiter up the stairs.
Xi’er’s efficiency was truly high. This convenience of not needing an ID to check in was great! We had just reached the second floor when she was already waiting by a guest room:
“Young Master, this is your room. Dinner will take a little longer, why don’t you go in and rest your feet first?”
Shui Xin nodded, pushed the door open, and walked inside. Xi’er followed her steps and entered the room. What about me? Confused, I tried to walk in too, but the maid blocked me at the door. Pushing me aside, she said playfully:
“Shoo, shoo, shoo, little tag-along, your room is over there.”
I followed her hand to the side room on the left and nodded in realization:
“Oh, oh, oh, then I won’t disturb your rest for now.”
Watching her slowly close the wooden door, I rubbed the bridge of my nose and walked into my own guest room. I pushed the door open and looked around. Overall, it was quite good. The bed against the wall looked about $1.5$ meters wide and had bed curtains.
In the center of the room was a set of mahogany round tables and chairs. There were two windows on the outer wall. I casually tossed my backpack onto the table, then walked to the wall and opened the windows to let in some air. I clapped my hands and stretched with a big yawn. Finally, I could have some quiet time alone. I returned to the table, pulled out a chair, and sat down.
Before dinner, I had to quickly sort out all my thoughts. I opened my bag and recounted the few items inside.
I’ve watched so many time-travel dramas and read so many novels; it was fun at the time, but now that it’s happened to me, there’s an inexpressible sense of helplessness, and the thought is absolutely terrifying. Let’s not talk about future plans yet; basic food security is non-existent right now. Am I going to steal a bowl and go begging on the road when the sun rises tomorrow?
Bah! Ji Sijie, look at your lack of ambition! You’re a graduate student from a 211 university, after all! But seriously, if I had traveled to a dynasty that actually existed in history, it would be fine. I’d at least have a “premonition skill” to fool people, and by following the plot line, I might end up rich enough to rival the nation or become a highly favored person by the Emperor—at least a high official.
But the current situation is that I don’t even know where to earn tomorrow’s steamed bun! No solution! This long journey of life is baffling! I held my head and wailed on the table. Whoever set up this plot for me, get out here! Let’s have a good chat about life, and see if I don’t beat you to death!
After calming down for a while, I sat back up straight. My stomach started rumbling, and hunger began to act up. This kitchen is so slow at cooking. No Wi-Fi, no entertainment. Absolute bad review for this ‘five-star’ inn, absolutely terrible.
Just then, the door was pushed open, and Xi’er skipped in:
“Young Master Ji, what are you doing?”
I tilted my head to look at her, then slumped back onto the table, complaining weakly:
“Miss Xi’er, I’m starving.”
The maid walked to my side with her hands behind her back, giving me a look of disdain:
“My Young Master hasn’t cried hungry yet, what are you rushing for? Here, take these things.”
She placed a set of clothes and a cloth bag in front of me. I immediately snapped out of it, stood up, and curiously examined the white robes:
“Are these for me?”
Xi’er nodded as a matter of course, with an expression that implied they were a benevolent wealthy family, and she explained, imitating Shui Xin’s tone:
“Our Young Master said that Young Master Ji is new here and knows nothing about Da Xuan. This world is perilous, and your outfit is out of place and bound to draw attention, so he grants you a set of his casual clothes.”
Grants? If you’re so generous, why don’t you get me a new set! Grants! Do you think you’re the Emperor? Then give me an amnesty token or something! I realized that ever since I arrived at this ghostly place, my complaining skills have been growing exponentially. Never mind, they have good intentions. I’m getting a ride, food, and lodging, and now clothes. I must have a grateful heart!
Holding the clothes, I tilted my head and curiously pointed to the cloth bag on the other side: “What goodie is this?”
“It is indeed a goodie. Why don’t you open it and see?”
This little girl knows how to be mysterious! I grabbed the cloth bag; it felt heavy. I eagerly opened it and saw, oh my god, real silver and gold! Xi’er then continued to speak, pretending to imitate Shui Xin’s tone:
“Our Young Master also said that since Young Master Ji told us so many fascinating stories today and broadened our horizons, bringing entertainment that alleviates the boredom of our journey, this silver is your reward.”
Your Young Master has such a strange temper, being so tight-lipped that he rarely says more than ten words in a sentence. Did he not hyperventilate saying all that at once? Well, there I go, complaining again! Of course, I still had to be polite:
“Oh, my! You are too kind.”
“This silver should last you quite a few days. Be frugal and quickly find a way to make a living.”
“A great favor cannot be repaid with words; I will keep Young Master Shui Xin’s kindness firmly in my heart!”
I stood up, clasped my hands, and bowed in respect. Just then, there was a shout from a strong man outside, signaling that it was time to eat. Xi’er hurried away. I carefully placed the items into my backpack before heading out.
Downstairs, Shui Xin was already seated at a dining table. Xi’er was accompanying her, pouring tea, while the strong men sat at another table. I walked over and sat down in front of Shui Xin, feeling obliged to express my thanks:
“Young Master, meeting you today is a great fortune for Sijie.”
“Eat.”
Shui Xin took a small sip of tea and did not exchange pleasantries. It seemed he was waiting for me. Seeing that I was settled, he picked up his chopsticks and began eating the small dishes on the table. Since the host had started eating, I wasted no time grabbing a white steamed bun and gobbling it down.
“How is the taste?”
This guy’s appetite must be that of an ant. I hadn’t even finished one bun, and he had already put down his chopsticks. I nodded awkwardly:
“The taste is good, thumbs up. Young Master, are you already full?”
He nodded slightly and then quietly watched me. You should be eating, why are you staring at me? Am I so lovely to look at that you forget your hunger?
“What are the dishes like in the Heavenly Dynasty (China)?”
Oh, come on, even thunder doesn’t strike a person while they’re eating. Can’t you just let it go for a moment? Still thinking about my People’s Republic of China! My mouth was full of food, and I nearly choked myself. I quickly grabbed the cup and drank the tea down:
“In our place, there are so many delicious things! Chongqing Hot Pot, Beijing Roast Duck, Xinjiang Da Pan Ji (Big Plate Chicken), Lanzhou Lamian (Hand-Pulled Noodles)… Oh my goodness, there are so many it would make your jaw drop!”
Just naming a few specialties made my appetite grow stronger. I quickly grabbed another steamed bun and ate it with the dishes, making a mess with oil all over my mouth. It seemed I was truly starving.
Stomach full, satisfaction!
After the meal, Shui Xin quietly drank his tea, and I finally had the leisure to properly admire his face. Although he had a strange temper, like an autistic child who rarely spoke, if I just looked at him without provoking him, his face was fair and clean, like a pretty boy.
Although he wasn’t the handsome, strong-featured type, his features were delicate, his lips were red and teeth white, and his frame was slender and frail-looking. His demeanor and speech were refined, indicating he was an educated person. In modern times, he would be the kind of pure shou (the bottom in a BL relationship) that girls adore.
I might have been staring a little too intently, as I didn’t realize Shui Xin was also looking straight at me. Now, we locked eyes, and I actually blushed. I quickly lowered my head, pretending to continue eating. Xi’er, the one who loves to fan the flames and bring up awkward topics, raised an eyebrow smugly:
“Our Young Master is very handsome, isn’t he!”
“Young Master Shui Xin is indeed handsome and dashing. I’m sure he’s very popular with the ladies.”
“Of course!”
Hearing my compliment, Xi’er became even more pleased. A gentle smile appeared on Shui Xin’s face. He pulled back and stood up. The moment he moved, the strong men at the next table also stood up in unison.
Tsk, tsk, tsk, these loyal ‘hounds’ really have to follow every little movement. Shui Xin waved his hand, signaling to the group:
“Please take your time with your meal. I’m going back to my room to rest.”
The leader of the strong men bowed respectfully:
“Young Master, rest early.”
With that, Xi’er followed Shui Xin upstairs. I looked at the plates on the table; there were still four large steamed buns left. So, I shamelessly called the waiter over:
“Hey there, young man, come here quickly.”
The waiter hurried to my side: “Young Master, how can I help?”
“Please wrap up these steamed buns for me.”
“Coming right up!”
When a person is at their wit’s end, their face needs to be as thick as a city wall. I went to the strong men’s table and looked at them for a while. The leader smiled and handed me the remaining white steamed buns on their table:
“Take them.”
Damn it, for a moment, I changed my opinion of these guys who looked like they lived on supplements. What simple and honest folk! Kind people, I thank you!
