Chapter 6: Stunning the Whole Crowd
Amidst the increasingly brisk sound of the instruments, a fiery red figure slowly entered the center of the tent.
The layered, trailing skirts fluttered like flowing clouds with every step. The “dancing girl” wore a light veil over her face, revealing only a pair of meticulously painted, upturned cat-like eyes. Between the ripples of her gaze, a natural sense of provocation radiated effortlessly.
As the veil fell from her face, a snow-white, beautiful countenance was revealed to everyone. A tiny red mole on the tip of her nose added a touch of bewitching allure to her face, and her full red lips curved slightly upward, making her indescribably moving.
“My goodness…” Behind the monitor, Zhang Yunjiang’s eyes widened, and he couldn’t help but let out a exclamation in his local dialect.
Objectively speaking, during the audition, Xie Ci’s expressions and line delivery were merely good. What Zhang had been most satisfied with were Xie Ci’s movements—the most critical requirement for the role of Silver Thirteen. For that, he had been willing to compromise on the dramatic acting.
However, he hadn’t expected that in just a few short days, Xie Ci’s dramatic acting would improve so drastically.
Little Lu’s gaze in this scene is also spot on! Zhang Yunjiang thought happily, signaling the assistant director to change camera angles.
Prince Jing shifted from his original nonchalant posture, leaning forward slightly, his eyes tightly following that figure. Zhang Yunjiang assumed it was a burst of acting talent, but only Lu Feichen knew that he was truly stunned.
As a top-tier star in the industry, he had interacted with the most elite group of beautiful men and women, yet he had never experienced his heart racing wildly just from a single glance from another person until now.
His character was an ambitious mogul—calculating and unscrupulous—who, in the early stages, used the Emperor to push the male lead into a corner. Originally, he had been confused by Prince Jing’s death in the script. What kind of beautiful man could possibly bewitch this prince, who had seen countless beauties, to the point of causing his messy demise after a fatal wound?
But seeing “Silver Thirteen” before him, all his doubts vanished instantly.
The dancing girl looked up and smiled: “Your Highness, what fun is there in just drinking? This humble servant has admired you for a long time…” The slender figure moved slowly, imperceptibly approaching Prince Jing, whose eyes already held a look of infatuation.
“…I have specifically practiced a dance for you.” The soft water-sleeves drifted gently, and the smile on Prince Jing’s lips grew deeper.
The assistant director used a megaphone to prompt from the side: “Silver Thirteen, draw your sword now! Other actors, be careful not to block the camera!“
Silver Thirteen drew closer and closer. Just as the distance between them was less than three steps, his body suddenly whirled. His right hand shot out like lightning from within the layers of water-sleeves—a silver-glinting soft sword suddenly thrust out, pointing directly at Prince Jing’s throat!
“Not good! An assassin!“
The tent instantly fell into chaos. People scrambled to flee in panic, while those trying to protect Prince Jing were confused and helpless. The guards inside the tent roared as they rushed toward the Prince.
The smile and infatuation on Prince Jing’s face froze instantly. Reacting quickly, he flipped the heavy red sandalwood desk in front of him, sending wine cups and fruits rolling across the floor.
Clang! The soft sword pierced into the surface of the desk, sending wood chips flying where it struck.
“Not bad, Old Lei. This design is great,” the assistant director praised the head of the props team, who had come over to watch.
Old Lei: “…” A ‘good’ outcome just landed in my lap, he thought silently, his eyes never leaving the filming.
When he saw Xie Ci’s soft sword thrusting toward him, Lu Feichen almost forgot the movements he had rehearsed with the martial arts director. He was captivated by the jade-like face behind that point of cold light.
Xie Ci keenly sensed Lu Feichen’s momentary daze. Hidden by his skirts, he exerted force to flip one side of the specialized sandalwood desk upward. From the director’s monitor, the transition between their movements looked seamless.
Lu Feichen followed Xie Ci’s lead, and the two became locked in combat. Although they hadn’t rehearsed together due to time constraints and had only practiced with the martial arts director’s demonstrations, their chemistry was surprisingly good.
At the critical moment, Silver Thirteen suddenly bent backward, dodging a horizontal blade strike from an attendant beside Prince Jing. His soft sword reversed in his hand and plunged heavily into the attendant’s chest.
The blood pack on the extra’s chest gushed out crimson liquid, and several drops of red splattered onto Silver Thirteen’s originally clean face. The photographer zoomed in, giving Xie Ci’s “demon-like” face a major close-up, perfectly capturing the cold murderous intent in his eyes.
At this moment, although dressed as a fragile dancing girl, he moved through the shadows of blades and swords with unmatched prowess.
Puchi—
An expression of unbelievable horror appeared on Prince Jing’s handsome face. Looking at the beautiful face before him, his pupils gradually dilated. As Silver Thirteen twisted his wrist and withdrew the sword, blood erupted from the pierced chest.
Lu Feichen collapsed. The faint, lingering scent at the tip of his nose gradually dissipated. That fleeting figure tapped his toes lightly and, with a few movements, fought through the encirclement and vanished into the night outside the tent.
“Cut! Great! This take is a wrap!“
Zhang Yunjiang looked delighted. This had gone much more smoothly than he had anticipated! The surrounding staff were also very happy; the joy of getting off work early made their favorability toward this newcomer skyrocket instantly.
Normally, action scenes like this require several retakes for various reasons. It was rare to pass in a single take. Zhang had been worried Xie Ci wouldn’t be able to match Lu Feichen’s acting and had prepared for an all-night shoot. He hadn’t expected it to be so successful! Xie Ci’s movements were as smooth as flowing water, and even the fight with Lu Feichen was seamless.
Truly the person he had chosen!
After filming, Lu Feichen was surrounded by several assistants handling his costume. He stared at Xie Ci, who was talking to Mo Li, with a complex gaze. During the shoot, he had actually messed up his movements several times, but this newcomer—whom he had assumed was just an empty “vase”, had helped resolve them. What surprised him most was that Xie Ci’s movements were continuous and effortless, possessing more power and beauty than the martial arts instructors he had trained with.
“Xie Ci, how did you do it!” Mo Li was wiping Xie Ci’s face with a handkerchief he carried.
“Director Zhang had the martial arts teacher give me some online training; it felt pretty good,” Xie Ci replied with a wink and a smile. Though his opponent was a bit clumsy, being able to pick up a sword again so freely made his heart race with excitement.
“If you say that out loud, others will be fuming,” Mo Li lowered his voice. “I heard from the crew that Director Zhang specifically trained several actors before, but none of them were finalized because their action performances weren’t ideal.“
Xie Ci: “…“
For him, this scene was already the result of him holding back his strength. After all, though he had never taken a life in the past, everything he learned consisted of genuine, lethal moves.
In a great mood, Zhang Yunjiang told the assistant director to wrap up for the day and walked over to Xie Ci. “I underestimated you, Little Xie. Some of those moves just now were your own creation, weren’t they?” Zhang was strict about his work and knew every plot point and scene inside out.
Xie Ci thought for a moment and said: “Silver Thirteen’s initial thrust at Prince Jing shouldn’t be a leap. That wastes too much power in the legs, making the arm’s thrusting motion lack a sense of strength.” He recalled the original design in the script and shared his understanding with Zhang.
Zhang Yunjiang’s expression shifted slightly: “Hmm… it makes a lot of sense when you put it that way.” He nodded, turned to have his assistant call the martial arts director over, and excitedly began discussing Silver Thirteen’s movement design with Xie Ci.
“Phew—today was more interesting than I thought.” Mo Li lay on the sofa, looking at Xie Ci, who had changed into loungewear.
“Yeah, I didn’t expect acting to have developed like this.” Thinking about what he had seen and heard on set today—the advanced machinery and various specialized props, Xie Ci felt he had truly seen the world. He felt the original host’s memories gradually merging into his life, while his past days of riding horses and traveling the Jianghu with a sword felt like a dream.
Xie Ci rubbed the back of his pale, slender neck. Seeing this, Mo Li came over to help him massage it. “Does that feel good? I learned this from an older sister on the set today.“
“Learned it on set?” Feeling the perfect pressure on his aching neck, Xie Ci unconsciously leaned back.
“Yeah. You were so focused on the filming today, you didn’t notice the way the crew was looking at you, did you?” Even though he spent every day with Xie Ci, Mo Li couldn’t help but marvel at his friend’s beauty. With dark eyebrows and snow-white skin, no wonder people were whispering about his looks.
However, thinking of the malicious comments from others, Mo Li snorted loudly: “Before you even started filming, several people said you only got into the crew through back-door connections.”
Xie Ci’s closed eyelids flickered. Being a newcomer, it was inevitable that he would be questioned.
“You didn’t hear it, but some of them said things that were super out of line!” Mo Li pouted. “But as soon as your night scene was finished, I watched them secretly. None of them could say a word of gossip anymore.”
As Mo Li got excited, the rhythm of his massage sped up. Xie Ci was infected by his straightforward expression of emotion and felt himself relax. He had left his sect early and lived alone; he knew that to deal with people, one had to show strength to earn respect. However, the feeling of being so cared for made his heart feel warm.
“One take and it passed?” A man’s deep voice sounded slightly surprised.
As the core lead of the Diving Abyss series, Ji Xiuheng knew better than anyone how strict this seemingly gentle director was with actors. He hadn’t expected that his casual remark the other day would actually lead Director Zhang to discover a hidden treasure.
The man had deep features, and though his face was expressionless, his tone was naturally warm. On the other end of the line, Zhang Yunjiang was clearly very proud of tonight’s shoot, clamoring for Ji Xiuheng to finish his commercial shoot and return to the set to see his newly discovered “genius newcomer.”
“Fine. I’ll take the flight tomorrow morning and arrive at the set in the afternoon.”
The phone he hung up chimed with a notification. “Brother Ji, a leaked video from Lu Feichen’s fans,” his assistant messaged, followed by a video clip.
Amidst fluttering skirts, the “dancing girl” wielded a sword like a silver snake, his movements clean and sharp. Even through the blurry video, that small, snow-white face was exceptionally striking.
Tomorrow, it seemed, was the scene where his character, Song Yu, first encounters Silver Thirteen. Thinking of the “misunderstanding” during their first meeting in the script, Ji Xiuheng’s chest rose and fell slightly. The video continued to play on the phone beside him, stopping exactly at the moment Xie Ci looked up.
