I Am Her Secret Beauty - Chapter 12
That person named Mu Xi.
Not the butler Mu Xi, but the one studying military strategy at University A, the same age as her, though of humble origins, yet confident, dignified, and never showing a hint of timidity.
Nan Xi remembered the first time she met her. It was when her chemistry department recruited a group of volunteers to help move lab equipment, and Mu Xi had signed up for the task.
Later, Nan Xi asked her why she was interested in chemistry.
Mu Xi said, “I don’t know. I just saw that there was an especially beautiful girl in the chemistry department, so I mindlessly traded my part-time work hours for a volunteer form that didn’t pay a cent.”
But when Nan Xi first met her, she hadn’t detected any ulterior motives.
Perhaps it was because Mu Xi excelled in strategy, or maybe she was just naturally composed enough to conceal her thoughts.
In any case, Mu Xi extended a hand toward Nan Xi with effortless grace. “Hello, I’m Mu Xi.”
Nan Xi glanced at the hand offered to her but didn’t immediately take it.
Her personality wasn’t the best, she wasn’t great at handling sudden kindness from strangers, and she admitted that.
But Mu Xi didn’t show even the slightest hint of awkwardness.
She simply withdrew her hand naturally, her dark hair cascading behind her, her tall frame poised as she tilted her chin slightly.
“Are these the things we’re moving?”
Before her was the box of lab supplies Nan Xi had been assigned, a whole assortment of items.
“Yeah, and more,” Nan Xi replied flatly, though an inexplicable emotion stirred in her chest. “There’s also me.”
The joke fell flat. Mu Xi first gave her a surprised look, as if she hadn’t expected this seemingly aloof, aristocratic beauty to crack such a line.
Then, noticing Nan Xi’s blush at the failed joke, Mu Xi covered her lips and laughed.
“No problem, that’s easy.”
She bent down, sliding an arm beneath Nan Xi’s knees and lifting her effortlessly.
Nan Xi found herself seated securely in the crook of Mu Xi’s arm, hoisted up.
The arm beneath her was strong.
But being this close to someone she had just met, after only exchanging a few words, made Nan Xi uncomfortable.
She looked down at the top of Mu Xi’s head and murmured, “I was just joking. Put me down.”
Mu Xi didn’t tease her further, gently setting her back on her feet, eyes still brimming with amusement.
Nan Xi was deeply embarrassed. She didn’t know why she had blurted out something like that, she wasn’t usually like this. And yet, Mu Xi had played along so perfectly.
She stood frozen, silent, her cheeks flushed.
“Let’s go,” Mu Xi broke the silence first. She bent down again, though this time, she picked up Nan Xi’s box. “Which building is your lab in? We’ll go together.”
