Husband, Let Your Husband Treat Your Illness - Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Ye Mo sped down the highway, his mind involuntarily drifting back to that scene earlier. He found himself unconsciously savoring the taste left on his lips, causing his foot to press harder on the gas pedal. He was still thinking about that rogue. What kind of person could be thick-skinned enough to do such a thing? The scenery outside the window was beautiful, but Ye Mo was in no mood to appreciate it; he only wanted to get as far away from that place as possible.
“Damn that Ye Huan! Just wait until you get back from Africa, see if I don’t settle the score with you!” Ye Mo grumbled to himself, plotting how to deal with his brother, his mind unable to hold any other thoughts.
Suddenly, another car surged out from the side access road. Ye Mo’s mind had been entirely occupied by that “rotten incident” from before; by the time he reacted, the car was already right in front of him. Before he could even hit the brakes, he had collided head-on with the other vehicle. Ye Mo blacked out instantly, naturally remaining unaware of anything that followed.
The ambulance wailed as it screeched to the scene. Medical staff quickly loaded Ye Mo into the vehicle and rushed him to the nearest hospital. Upon arrival, he was immediately wheeled into the emergency room and hooked up to oxygen without a second’s delay.
“Doctor Dongfang, please take a look at this patient,” a nurse said.
Dongfang Jin was still marveling at his own luck. How could it be this good? The moment he arrived at this hospital, he encountered an emergency case. But when his eyes fell upon the patient on the bed, he couldn’t help but feel that fate was playing tricks. Wasn’t this the very man he had kissed in the hospital courtyard just moments ago?
“So, your name is Ye Mo.” Dongfang Jin stared at Ye Mo on the bed, dazed, momentarily forgetting he was standing at an operating table.
“Doctor Dongfang, please check the injured person’s condition,” the nurse reminded him from the side.
“Oh, right.” Dongfang Jin finally regained his professional composure. “Fracture of the left femur, fracture of the right wrist. Slight cold sweat across the body, pale complexion, dry mouth, heart rate approximately 100 beats per minute.” He turned to the nurse: “Adjust his position, set the IV drip speed, maintain oxygen, and have the anesthesia follow up.”
“Doctor, the patient has lost too much blood.”
“Go to the blood bank for a supply,” Dongfang Jin ordered.
“Doctor, the patient has Rh-negative Type O blood. The hospital has no stock of this type.”
“Is it that much of a coincidence? Then use mine; I am also Rh-negative Type O.”
“But Doctor, how will you perform the surgery if you do that?”
“It’s fine. Hurry up.”
“Yes, sir.”
Inside the emergency room, Dongfang Jin watched Ye Mo’s profile as sweat poured down his own face. Dongfang Jin had performed many surgeries and seen countless patients, but this operation felt like the one with the most pressure he had ever faced. The surgery lasted a full four hours. During the process, through the haze of anesthesia, Ye Mo vaguely saw the person operating on him. Although a surge of dislike rose in his heart, the pull of the anesthesia was too strong; he drifted into a deep sleep.
When the rest of the Ye family heard the news, everyone except for the Old Master and Ye Huan, who was far away in Africa dropped what they were doing and rushed to the hospital, crowding the entrance of the emergency room. The Ye family had always been a rowdy clan, and they were certainly not quiet outside the ER.
“An Yue, it’s alright. Xiao Mo is a good person with heaven’s protection; he will definitely be fine,” Ye Mo’s eldest aunt comforted.
“That’s right, Fourth Aunt. Xiao Mo is so stubborn; he wouldn’t allow himself to leave us at a time like this,” said Sui Mingfang, the wife of Ye Huan.
As the family chattered and made a commotion, a young nurse walked over. “Excuse me, this is a hospital. Could you please be quiet? There are other patients.” The nurse was new and didn’t know the Ye family’s status or that the hospital was one of their assets. “My apologies, Chairman. This nurse is new and doesn’t know the rules,” the head nurse of the floor hurried over to lead the young nurse away.
“She has a point; we can’t blame her. We’ll just lower our voices,” said Ye Qi, the third of the Ye brothers.
The head nurse led the young nurse away with a forced smile, saying along the way, “You! That was the hospital’s Chairman, the Third Young Master of the Ye family.”
“The Ye family? The one that dominates the business world?”
“The very one! You worked hard to get into this hospital; don’t lose your job.” The young nurse left cautiously, deeply regretting her earlier behavior.
After a while, Dongfang Jin emerged from the surgery. Seeing the large family gathered there, he knew they must be Ye Mo’s relatives. He had guessed Ye Mo came from a good family, but he never imagined he was a member of the Ye family.
“Doctor, how is Ye Mo?” The one who stepped forward to ask was Ye Mo’s dear mother, Madam An Yue.
“Hello, Madam. The patient’s injuries have been stabilized. He has been transferred to a VIP suite.”
Hearing this, the Ye family felt as if they had received a royal pardon, and each face broke into a heartfelt smile. “Doctor, thank you. Third Brother, when did your hospital hire such a handsome doctor with such great skills?” An Yue remarked.
“Hahaha, Sister-in-law, you know I’m not interested in the medical side of things. This hospital is my son’s project,” Ye Qi replied. He had never liked the medical field, but Ye Huan did. Initially, Ye Qi was against it, thinking hospitals were prone to lawsuits, but he eventually let it go for the sake of the family having convenient medical care.
The ER doors slowly opened, and Ye Mo was wheeled out on a bed by the nurses. The anesthesia hadn’t worn off yet; he lay there quietly, looking far less “dislikable” than when he spoke. “That brat… he really is a handful. I don’t know who he was angry with to drive like that.” Although An Yue spoke in a complaining tone, tears flowed uncontrollably down her face, even as she smiled with relief.
“It’s all Ye Huan’s fault. If not for him, Xiao Mo wouldn’t be like this,” Ye Qi said.
“Third Brother, you can’t blame Xiao Huan. If the brat hadn’t sent Xiao Huan to Africa, Xiao Huan wouldn’t have made Ye Mo come to the hospital. So I say, he’s just reaping what he sowed,” said Ye Mo’s father, Ye Chu.
“Alright, alright, since Xiao Mo is fine, stop talking like that,” An Yue immediately cut off Ye Mo’s father. “Hurry and send word to the Old Master so he can rest easy.”
The bed was pushed into the VIP suite. An Yue stayed behind to take care of him while the others dispersed. She busied herself attending to the “little ancestor,” waiting for the anesthesia to wear off.
At that moment, Dongfang Jin entered. Seeing her, he said, “Madam An, actually, the hospital has professional caregivers. you don’t need to tire yourself out like this.”
“This boy… he never liked anyone touching him, not even his own family. He’s been like that since he was little—very awkward,” An Yue said, stroking Ye Mo’s hair. “This boy is the darling of the entire Ye family.”
Seeing An Yue’s devotion, Dongfang Jin understood just how special Ye Mo was, and his heart felt even more drawn to the person before him.
Eventually, An Yue couldn’t stay awake any longer. She took a room in the hospital to sleep, leaving only Dongfang Jin and Ye Mo in the suite. Dongfang Jin sat by the bed, watching Ye Mo quietly, wishing he could engrave every feature and inch of skin into his heart. “I wonder what happened to make you so careless?”
“Water… I want water…” Ye Mo’s lips moved slightly. Though he only whispered a few words, Dongfang Jin heard them clearly.
“Alright, you want water? I’ll pour some for you right away.” After pouring the water, Dongfang Jin faced a dilemma. He had the water, but how could he get Ye Mo to drink it?
With no other choice, Dongfang Jin took a sip himself, held it in his mouth, and then pressed his lips against Ye Mo’s. Soft lips moved together, teeth parted slightly, and the water flowed slowly from his tongue into Ye Mo’s mouth. Whether it was because Ye Mo was truly thirsty or due to Dongfang Jin’s own selfish desires, they went back and forth several times. As the water flowed between their lips, Dongfang Jin’s heart felt a warm surge of joy.
At some point, Ye Mo’s eyes flickered open. His nose caught a pleasant, fresh scent of soap. Looking closely, he saw a man pressed against him and the pressure on his lips, wasn’t that the man’s mouth? Ye Mo focused his gaze and realized: wasn’t this that rogue doctor from before?
Forgetting his injuries, Ye Mo shoved Dongfang Jin away, turned his head, and spat out all the water. “What… are you… doing!” Seeing Ye Mo awake, Dongfang Jin forgot what he had just been doing and said excitedly, “You’re awake! That’s wonderful. Let me examine you.”
“I don’t need your ‘examination.’ Get me another doctor.”
“I am your attending physician! There’s no need to switch.”
“Get out. Ah!” Ye Mo’s anger caused him to pull at his wounds, forcing him back down.
“Lie back down, my little ancestor! You pulled your stitches, didn’t you?” Dongfang Jin said.
“I’m going to kill you, Dongfang Jin!”
“I didn’t expect you to remember my name. That’s a good start.”
“Get out!”
As the two were engaged in their war of words, An Yue entered the room. “Mo, you’re awake!”
“Mom, hurry up and drag this man out of here.”
“What’s wrong? Did your brain get waterlogged from the accident? Doctor Dongfang is so wonderful, skilled and handsome!”
“Thank you for the compliment, Madam An. I will take good care of Ye Mo. If you’re tired, please go home and rest.”
“Then I’ll leave him in your hands, Doctor Dongfang. Mo, listen to what the doctor says.”
Seeing his mother’s mischievous look, Ye Mo knew the situation wasn’t going to change. He could only stare at the ceiling in a huff.
“Mo, can I call you that?”
“No!”
“Mo… it’s a beautiful name.”
“I’m going to sleep. Get out!”
Seeing Ye Mo like this, Dongfang Jin thick-skinnedly climbed onto the bed and leaned against him. “I told you to get down! Get lost!”
“Mo, just go to sleep. To save you, I worked for four hours straight. I finally have a chance to rest; just let me sleep for a while,” Dongfang Jin said, inching half a step closer to Ye Mo.
The VIP beds were double-sized, so two grown men could sleep together without it feeling crowded. Because of his injuries, Ye Mo couldn’t move much. Even if he disliked the person beside him, he wasn’t foolish enough to risk his health by struggling, so he could only let Dongfang Jin stick to him like a rogue.
Dongfang Jin was indeed exhausted and fell asleep in a moment. His steady breathing brushed against Ye Mo’s neck, causing a slight tickling sensation. Combined with the fresh scent of Dongfang Jin, Ye Mo eventually drifted off to sleep as well.
